Thunderwolf troubles

Hello everyone.

Alright, I use Thunderwolfs in every battle because they are so effective and resilient, but I am growing tired of seeing bare Dreadnaught basses running around the field. So I had looked into the only Thunderwolf model and I am not willing to spend $41 per model. So I looked into other alternatives and as my chapter is using the SW's rules, they use Draggonish creatures native to the planet the fortress is orbiting, so I had bought a box of the Dark Elf Cold Ones in hopes that I could mount Marines on top of them. Half way through the project however I noticed that the mairnes just dont seem to fit. My next idea was to have my fluff say that these Marines are supernaturaly quick thus allowing them to keep up with the "Thunder Drakes" in battle by running beside them into combat.

I made one model representing that and it looks good(sorry no pictures, I lack a camera ), but i would like to hear of anyones advice on the subject and please list any alternatives for me. Thanks for your time.

Alternatives -

Well, if you don't want to spend more - you could dynamically pose the space wolves leaping from their mounts, or have the cold one jumping down (with a flying base etc) down? Either way, to do it properly the legs either need to be cut wide into place.

Chaos Knight legs... little GS conversion work on the boots and you've got your mounted legs. Some minor GS work on the link between legs and torso.

Seeing as your Chapter are not wolves as-such maybe give them Salamander style cloaks.

Also - see this thread http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/274436.page
