Tyrants can't have enhanced senses any more...nor flesh hooks.

Zoanthropes belong in a Pod.

Gaunts don'thave without number and spikerifles aren't good.

Stealers are best with toxin sacs.

Tyrannofex is meh and too much. Rupture cannon is for tanks hive is for anti infantry.

Not sure why but you've got old things in from the old codex..

Tyranid army from previous codex to current / advice please.

If you're looking for a few pros and cons of the new book here they are: (not digging the proxying of transformers for 'nids, btw, but it's your rodeo so whatever)

Pro: Hive Guard/Zoanthropes for transport and tank cracking at a safe distance. all other ranged anti-tank should be avoided if you're optimizing your list. For fun..eh throw a HVC or two in there but don't expect much out of it.

Pro: Trygons in CC...Holy Crap. Prettymuch anything in the book needs to be in cC with a couple exceptions. I recommend using venomthropes to provide cover to your big guys while they stomp their way into the enemy lines. Against other cc armies (blood angels, orks) they work great as they provide defensive grenades and a 1/6 chance to kill each enemy model that decides they wanna charge into you. (dangerous terrain tests). keep in mind that dangerous terrain drops initiative to 1 unless you have frag grenades.

Pro: holding objectives. Tervigons (convert a couple from carnifexes or trygons if you don't have any yet) are the tournament staple creature. a 6W, T6 MC that can score, while spawning more scoring units to screen/contest/annoy the opponent. YES!

Con: Invulnerable saves. 3 units have inv. saves..one of which can only be used in CC (swarmlord). That means that the entire army needs to hug cover like it's going out of style (also read my above pro for venomthropes). Especially if you're playing a razorwire list of space wolves with 18 rocket launchers, or foot guard with 37 lascannon bullcrap.

Pro: mobility. the new 'dex doesn't have any dedicated transports (though i like to pretend my tervigon is a gaunt land raider haha) we have many many ways to get on the board other than just lining up like a shooting gallery. Trygons/Raveners/Winged monsters can all deep strike. Genestealers can outflank, infiltrate (i like both). just about every other unit can take mycetic spores, and deep strike as well. I've tinkered with the idea of an all drop list, something that hits hard the turn it comes in and overwhelms the enemy. Sadly in playtesting even with bonuses to reserves you still need to get lucky to have all the things come in when you need them to; at once. that being said, take advantage of the fact that you can hold one or two units out and sneak up on the enemy with them, disrupting their battle plans.

Overall I"m a great big fan of the new book, mostly because i would play the army even if it were as smelly as necrons right now. Luckily i think they're still competitive, but there are some armies you need to watch out for. Jaws of the world wolf spam with space wolves is cheese vs the tervigon heavy list i like to run. Also to be avoided is air cav IG, vendetta squadrons will wreck your day in a heartbeat until you can get up close (a build i recommend using the all-drop strategy against)

There is much more to be said and fleshed out but hey I have to get back to work. Haha good luck with your bugs/robots/whatever.

Tyranid army from previous codex to current / advice please.

I guess my question is if you're asking 1) how to best make do with these exact models or 2) what new models, etc. you need. Assuming it's #1 and that you have some WYSIWYG limitations as a result, here are a few thoughts.

1) I'd start with running the single Lictor as Deathleaper. Regular Lictors almost have to be run in broods now. Deathleaper is pricey but comes with some handy abilities, especially in objectives games.

2) I'll second adding toxin sacs to the Genestealers. Given the smallish brood size, you might want to outflank these guys.

3) However, I think the Tyrannofexes are fine. You just have to use them properly, which is aggressively, firing as they advance. To that end, you could use two Tervigons with Onslaught so they can run and shoot. If you're limited to these models, I'd suggest the Carnifex model could be counted as a Tervigon (in Troops).

3a) Could the Mercury Tyrant get refitted to be a second Troops Tervigon? Generally you don't want walking Tyrants on their own anyway...Tyrant Guard are almost mandatory if you're going to do that.

3b) The winged Tyrant is at some risk in an army where nothing else is deep striking or winged. But if that's the model you have, we'll just have to run with it.

4) Generally the extra weapons aren't worth it on Termagants, just stick with fleshborers. Devourers are great weapons, it's just that they're pricey.

5) A pod would be handy for the Zoeys, but you *can* have them on foot. You just have to run them for a turn or two to get them into range. Since they have a 3++ you don't really have to worry about screening them, at least.

So here's my take on a "making do with the models I have" build. I don't know that it's as cohesive as it could be, but the Tervigon/Tyrannofex core is a strong one.

The one catch here is that adding Tervigons means you'll need a sizable pool of extra Termagants...I'd think 50 are a good number. And if you're able to add units like Hive Guards, etc. then we'd do some things differently...

Splinter" (1#, 255 Pts)
1 Hive Tyrant @ 170 Pts
Adrenal Glands (furious charge) 10pts; Winged 60pts; Scything Talons (x1 Reroll ones); Twin-linked Brainleech Devourer (x1) 15pts; Paroxysm; Leech Essence; Synapse Creature; Psyker; Shadow in the warp

"NightCreeper" (1#, 140 Pts)
1 Deathleaper @ 140 Pts

PIW-Ai (3) (3#, 180 Pts)
3 Zoanthrope @ 180 Pts
Synapse Creature; Psyker; Shadow in the warp; Warp Blast; Warp Lance; Warp Field

"BeeSwat" (1#, 210 Pts)
1 Tervigon @ 160 Pts
Cluster Spines, Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs, Catalyst, Onslaught

"Mercury" (1#, 210 Pts)
1 Tervigon @ 160 Pts
Cluster Spines, Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs, Catalyst, Onslaught

1st Ai Infantry (typeRFL) (10#, 50 Pts)
10 Termagaunt Brood @ 5 Pts

2nd Ai Infantry (typeSPN) (10#, 50 Pts)
10 Termagant Brood @ 5 Pts

3rd Ai Warrior (type LRRS) (8#, 136 Pts)
8 Gene Stealer Brood @ 17 Pts
Toxin Sacs

"Rampart" (1#, 265 Pts)
1 Tyrannofex @ 250 Pts
Rupture Cannon 15pts; Electroshock grubs; Stinger Salvo

"Salvo" (1#, 265 Pts)
1 Tyrannofex @ 250 Pts
Rupture Cannon 15pts; Electroshock grubs; Stinger Salvo

Think that comes to 1761.

Edit: Great to hear this army may soon be back in action!
