For some reason this Necromunda Juve (the girl on the left) is still probably my favourite GW model.

I know it's not the best model made (or the best pic, but google images dragged it up from dakka!) but it just appeals to me, I have one sitting by my desk painted up as a silver skulls chapter marine. I'm inclined to believe this because I met one of GW's sculptors at GamesDay 2009 and he did have only a left hand-no right hand. I think the Kharn model is really good too for dynamic pose, proportions, the musculature of his arms and such just so well done. He looks as badass as he acts.

For big figs I like Great Unclean one with the antlers and the big gibby mouth for a belly and an eyeball on his tongue who's guts are stitched in place with what look like giant knitting needles while nurglings are crawling out of his orifices. Lot going on in there, that's hard to beat.

If you search for "best looking" in Dakka Discussions, this is the only thread that comes up.

I manually went through Dakka Discussions for similarly themed threads back to August 28th and found no such thread. Any thread earlier then that (and technically, even halfway less then I went) would be considered thread necromancy. It's completely appropriate for him to have created this thread, and if you find these sort of repeat conversations distasteful, you're probably best off simply not participating in them.

On topic, it's not possible for me to pick simply one "best looking" model. They have so many which appeal to different themes, it's impossible to quantify. The models I like, in no order whatsoever:

1.) Grey Knight Terminators
2.) That Dark Eldar lady
3.) DE Incubi
4.) Does Forge World count? If so, Tomb Stalker
5.) Black Orcs
6.) Necron Wraiths
7.) Boss Snikrot
8.) Thunderfire Cannon (this thread isn't about building them right?)

Good model, sadly he suffers by association with Mr. Flamey Arms and the Toilet Paper Servitor.

I do like the Bolter Cherub, The SoB medic, and the Guardian with sword and shield. If you paint him well enough he looks fine. But flamy arms looks like gak, no way around it.

One of the coolest things, to me, about the whole "Inquisitor push" that has been reported to be the reason behind the massive retinue rules in Witch Hunters and Daemonhunters is the full and total support for scratch building these units. Putting together a bunch of retinue and an Inquisitor is one of my favorite moments converting minis. (Second would probably be a tie between making my 'conscripted troopers' from Necromunda minis and spending a long, rainy weekend making mutants from leftover bits and a few conversion parts. My mutants had bits from nearly every faction... Dark Eldar, Eldar, Tau (there's some Kroot parts), Orks, and lots of Tyranid bits... Possibly one of the best sculpts from opening the box to completed assembly. Mine only required very minimal GS work on the hing leg joins to the rump.



Not GREAT sculpts, but Maugan Ra and the SW Chaplain character have both aged well.

This one model has actually made me consider Brettonians, a range I otherwise dislike. It really does shine.

Im a big fan of this commisar, i had him in my collection for years and he had so many re paints that his features looked smudged so i sold him.

Now after a 5 year hiatus from 40K i have built my guard army back up and want another one!!!

@Everyone discussing the Perry Twins - Michael and Alan are long-time members of the Sealed Knot, a huge society in the UK dedicated to re-enacting battles of the English Civil War.

In 1996, Michael was working as part of a cannon crew when the cannon went off prematurely while he was loading it and it blew off his right hand.

Whilst he did, indeed learn to sculpt with his left hand, I believe the Green Knight pre-dates the accident.

Michael and Alan both still work full-time for Games Workshop and are the lead sculptors on the LOTR range, but also have an extensive range of historical metal and plastic miniatures of their own, sold under the "Perry Miniatures" line.

Yes, I know I picked Kans. This may seem weird, but think about it: If you loom at a Kan, you kan see all the gubbins and such that make it move. And it looks like it will actually move. The hydraulics are solid, the gears are perfectly placed, and even the springs on some of the DCCWs look fine.

I'm inclined to believe this because I met one of GW's sculptors at GamesDay 2009 and he did have only a left hand-no right hand. I'm not sure if it's the same guy, but one of their sculptors definitely only has one hand.


I have actually met the guy. His mother knows his wife. He is also, as you guessed, into medieval reanactment, that's where I met him as a matter of fact.
