I just started an Ork army after splitting the cost of the AoBR set with a friend. I managed to get about 70% of another AoBR ork set, and now I have a foot slogging army of about

40 boyz
10 nobz
1 Warboss
3 Koptas

Can anyone suggest me the right size carrying case (I've checked out Sabol, Portable Warfare, and the GW cases) for my current army, and maybe a little room to expand with a few bikes or more troops? I generally play skirmish or 40K in 40 minutes due to limited gaming time.

I'm not stuck on any one brand. I'd just like to find the right sized case with the right number of foam trays? I'm just looking for an affordable way to protect my minis and bring them to my FLGS.

I have read the threads about using pistol/rifle cases, but I don't have the tools or time to make one. I'd rather just buy a case online.

I know they seem more expensive, but nothing compares. At all. I've owned gw cases (restricted in what they can trasport), Sabol (motorpool) the case itself was too weak and once emptied of foam lost it's shape from the weight of codices, dice, and tape measures.

Since then I've owned the pack 720 and the Air. I only got rid of the 720 to get the Air. I'm fricking hooked on Battlefoam.

Plus the owner, Romeo, and his employees do a ton for the Hobby. I don't see the Sabol guys running a podcast, campaigns, or busting ass at tournaments to meet the community and listen to our needs.

All that said maybe start with a pack 216 and a few troop trays as well as something to hold your deff koptas? Shoota boys fit perfectly into the standard infantry tray. Slugga boys need a little more space to breathe, they and the (AoBR) Nobz will fit in the medium slot.

Yeah, I think Battlefoam is a bit premature. You have two AOBRs, a BF case is probably going to cost you MUCH more than what you paid for your army.

I would second the fishing tackle box. Also, pistol and gun cases can be quite affordable.

As a side note, I hope you didn't glue on the propellers for your koptas. Toolboxes can be worth a look as well. I use this one for my Orks:

Phew, you know I almost did, since I have been saving those to paint last, but now I won't. Thanks for the tip, I would have never thought of that.

The BF cases certainly look fantastic, but they are out of my price range. At this point I think I've spent a total of about $60 on my army by being frugal/ebay savvy, and I was hoping the carrying case wouldn't cost
twice as much as the contents.

So with the tackle boxes, do you need to purchase those flat foam insert trays or some egg crate foam to cut? Or do I just toss my boyz into the little compartments loose? I'm not going to swing the thing around, but wouldn't they still be prone to damage rattling around in there?

Oh wow. There is actually a Harbor Freight the next town over. Go to a craft or cloth store and you can probably buy eggcrate, flat or other types of foam by the foot. Works great.

For years, I just used the equivalent of the AOBR box at the time with foam in it to pad things. I moved on to rifle cases for a while which are cheap and come with good foam. I'm can't believe I never thought to look there for some sort of case, since most all of the tools I use besides brushes were purchased there.

Also, I strongly recommend against toolboxes. More people know what tools are than toy soldiers, and people steal tools: Hence, people steal toolboxes.

They make the most well-built cases on the market. I don't think that's really a matter of opinion. The only argument is whether or not it's appropriate for a beginner who might not stick with the hobby or need as much storage as BF will give.

For someone who is not going to get into 40k in a big way, you might want to consider a lower priced system, such as Sabol or KR Multicase. I have a pair of Sabol bags myself and I like them.
