My first scratch-build: Custom Warhound Titan

A couple month's back I posted a Mecha-Themed Space Marine Army, and promised more pics to follow as soon as I finished painting more models, but I got side-tracked by this project.... I figured if my army was going to be mecha-heavy, how could I not field one of the Imperium's most fearsome weapons: A mighty Titan. The model is about 95% done at the moment, little details like glass for the windows and the cockpit interior still need to be finished but the exterior is pretty much complete. Please let me know what you think. Constructive criticism will be much appreciated, rude comments will be met with scathing sarcasm!

[img]<img src='http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/7/19/391685_md-Scratch%20Build%2C%20Scratch-buitl%2C%20Slim%27s%2C%20Titan%2C%20Warhound.JPG' s, Titan, Warhound' >

[/img]<img src='http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/7/19/391686_md-Scratch%20Build%2C%20Scratch-buitl%2C%20Slim%27s%2C%20Titan%2C%20Warhound.JPG' s, Titan, Warhound' >

[img]<img src='http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/7/19/391687_md-Scratch%20Build%2C%20Scratch-buitl%2C%20Slim%27s%2C%20Titan%2C%20Warhound.JPG' s, Titan, Warhound' >

[/img]<img src='http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/7/19/391688_md-Scratch%20Build%2C%20Scratch-buitl%2C%20Slim%27s%2C%20Titan%2C%20Warhound.JPG' s, Titan, Warhound' >

Re:My first scratch-build: Custom Warhound Titan

Making a foam-titan terrain piece is inspired! I actually used high density-foam to fill the hollow portions of the figure, but the model was mostly made from cardstock (old comic-book backing boards), plasticard, and gator-board, with a bunch of brass & plastic rods, a variety of old bits and junk, and five or six full tubes of superglue. Swap-meets (flea markets, to those of you on the east coast) are a great source of cheep bits and parts. I just troll through the old toys and look for anything that might be useful later... a ton of swap-meet finds wound up as parts of this model.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I just followed the standard Template that everyone seems to use, but I modified it pretty heavily as I went along. The template will get you going in the right direction in terms of scale and proportions, but pretty much all the detail is left off, so if you want a model that doesn't look like a cardboard box whin its finished, you have to start getting creative along the way!

Maybe I'll take off the front end attachment, or magnetize it so it is optional...

The head arms and waist are all magnetized, and I am thinking of making an second, alternate head sometime down the line, but it will probably be an even further departure from the standard...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here are a couple pics of the Warhound before primer.

[img]<img src='http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/7/19/391689_md-Scratch%20Build%2C%20Scratch-buitl%2C%20Slim%27s%2C%20Titan%2C%20Warhound.JPG' s, Titan, Warhound' >

[/img]<img src='http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/7/19/391690_md-Scratch%20Build%2C%20Scratch-buitl%2C%20Slim%27s%2C%20Titan%2C%20Warhound.JPG' s, Titan, Warhound' >
