Battle Fortress BETA rules released

Approximately two weeks ago, the member Cowm stated that rules would soon be available for the wargame that did not require dice, and linked unit creation with wargaming. It was called Battle Fortress.

The rules have now been finished ready for people to play and give feedback through our site:

http://www.battle-fortress.com

through our email of:

battlefortress@hotmail.co.uk

or through this dakkadakka thread.

Happy Wargaming!!!!

War of Life Gaming Systems

Re:Battle Fortress BETA rules released

I skimmed over the rules. I was a little skeptical at first, but it looks interesting to be honest.

One minor sticking point, and I do mean MINOR, since it's fluff: In one of the futuristic armies, you mention them being from the "Eastern part of the Milky Way". You can't really use geographical location descriptors based upon magnetic poles outside of some sort of magnetic field. That is to say, once you break orbit, East becomes relative quick.

You might be able to work out some cool coordinate system based upon the rotation of the milky way over time to correct for drift. Perhaps a 3d radial coordinate system, somehow based upon the theoretical supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy?

Or I could just suppress my disbelief.

To Daedalus

Thank you for taking the time to read the rules, and for your positive comments.

We will certainly be changing the fluff for that section, and maybe a map to show the Milky Way with co-ordinates etc as you suggested.

Thanks again,

War of Life Organisation

Re:Battle Fortress BETA rules released

Battle Fortress has now been released on Wargames Vault :

http://www.wargamevault.com/product_info.php?products_id=116053&currency=USD

For those who don't know:

Battle Fortress is a new miniatures table-top war game aimed at answering some old questions...
Looking for a quick game even your non war-gaming friends will enjoy?
Want a game that will get your children interested in model making and strategy?
Want a full battle style game you can carry in a shoe box?

This first edition of the core rules for Battle Fortress introduces you to a fast paced table top war game with two big differences:
•	You can use any scale of models from 6mm to 54mm

and

•	No dice are required

This is a game that can be played anywhere, from the dining table to tournament size war gaming tables. The size and style of the game can be adapted to suit the space and number of models available.
The rules are simple to follow, quick to learn and fast to play with turn times typically taking less than 5 minutes, yet still requiring tactical thinking
Objective: Destroy enemy factories whilst defending your own
With dedicated rules for infantry, vehicles and super weapons for forces from WWII, and Science Fiction, no two games need ever be alike.

SO... DEFEND LIFE.... OR TAKE IT AWAY?....

Battle Fortress was originally trialled at a local war games club in Somerset, England where it was well received and enthusiastically played by junior and senior members alike. Further successful trials also took place online.
This is the debut creation by War of Life Gaming Systems whose aim is to bring table top war gaming into the realms of family entertainment. Look out for more games and expansions soon!

Certainly,

The no dice mechanic for Battle Fortress means that every unit has a set movement distance (dependant on terrain), set shooting range, as well as lives. There are different rules for each unit but the game works on the principle that a fully trained soldier/tank commander can successfully aim, shoot and hit their enemy.

It may sound too simple, but was an instant hit with the local gaming club's younger players and helped them to get into more complex games which do use dice i,e, GW.

I hope this answers your question.

I guess this game just needs to be built such that there's no incentive to keep using the One True Winning Strategy.
Re:Battle Fortress BETA rules released

Sorry if I didn't answer the question fully Alf.

The game could be considered similar to chess, as each model has set movement , shooting power etc; except that units are created every turn (up to three a turn, depending on how many provisions are saved), certain units are required to help the construction of more powerful units, and players can use super-weapons to aid their cause.
So, even without dice, there is still variation and no two games are ever alike.
