I will be moving soon and have a literal metric ton of minis. ~700 figures and vehicles.

I am really seeking advice on how some of you who had to move transported all of the figures as compact and safely as possible?
What containers did you use ect..

For larger models, use one of their pluck trays and pack the spaces between limbs etc with some of the plucked foam.

If you can afford/already have foam cases that's the way to go for the small stuff (KR, Battlefoam etc)

large stuff could go in custom foam, or wrapped in clothes etc (if they don't have fiddly bits to snap off)

...then it'd cost you only 5 to 8 quid per 'case' full of foam more to just buy a cardboard case - and it'd leave you with a good storage system afterwards (I can vouch for those cases - they're quite good!). don't be silly, get the foam - in their cardboard.

You could magnetize your bases, and just stick your minis on the sides/roof of the moving van.

If I was moving again, I would probably use it as an excuse to buy a nice bag/foam system. Probably KR. Last time I moved I had a lot less models. Some were moved in the 2 cases I had, others in egg cartons/random boxes with odd foam. All was done by hand in the back of my car, and was just a few miles, so not that far.

How far are you moving? If it is just a short hop, could you borrow some cases from friends? Or make multiple trips? Could your army take a vacation to a safe location (friend's basement, etc) while the move happens? I used many different types of containers; cardboard boxes, Army Transports, GW hard cases, tackle boxes, Rubbermaid tubs, and so on.

I've always found that it comes down to the material used to surround the minis, and not the actual container.

If it's packed tight, and packed well, it will survive. I use lots of foam, foam trays, softer papers like newspaper, paper towels, actual towels/wash cloths, bubble wrap, and so on.

Inside the box, build a buffer zone between your minis and the container, unless the container is built to actually carry minis. Then wrap minis and stack them in according to weight. Tanks on bottom, then the next biggest thing, and so on until you have the lightest stuff on top.
