Hello community,
I will be moving soon and have a literal metric ton of minis. ~700 figures and vehicles.
I am really seeking advice on how some of you who had to move transported all of the figures as compact and safely as possible?
What containers did you use ect..
advice welcome.

I bought some KR multicase foam inserts and made my own cardboard boxes to fit the foam out of some spare cardboard boxes, then made a box to fit all the boxes inside
For larger models, use one of their pluck trays and pack the spaces between limbs etc with some of the plucked foam.
You can also pack the model boxes inside something soft, like a box of clothing.

Pack them yourself, rather than letting the mover do it,
If you can afford/already have foam cases that's the way to go for the small stuff (KR, Battlefoam etc)
large stuff could go in custom foam, or wrapped in clothes etc (if they don't have fiddly bits to snap off)
Make sure the moved knows that the cases/boxes are fragile and will suffer crush damage, so don't put stuff on top of them

...then it'd cost you only 5 to 8 quid per 'case' full of foam more to just buy a cardboard case - and it'd leave you with a good storage system afterwards (I can vouch for those cases - they're quite good!). don't be silly, get the foam - in their cardboard.
of course for the really humongous models that might not be an option but I'm guessing that ~700 isn't mainly comprised of titan-sized models? for vehicles, those cases are quite efficient too (and they're generally more crushresistant than the cardboard boxes one could cobble together himself).

Sheets of eggshell foam I think is going to be the cheep way to go. As for boxes, a lot depends on the kind of move. Just some cardboard banker's boxes, or medium moving boxes, or something reasonably sized should work. Just cut the eggshell into bits that fit, and layer it up. If you want a more rugged container, you could get plastic storage bins in all sorts of shapes and sizes.
You could magnetize your bases, and just stick your minis on the sides/roof of the moving van.
If I was moving again, I would probably use it as an excuse to buy a nice bag/foam system. Probably KR. Last time I moved I had a lot less models. Some were moved in the 2 cases I had, others in egg cartons/random boxes with odd foam. All was done by hand in the back of my car, and was just a few miles, so not that far.
How far are you moving? If it is just a short hop, could you borrow some cases from friends? Or make multiple trips? Could your army take a vacation to a safe location (friend's basement, etc) while the move happens? That way you could slowly take your time moving things by hand with any cases you have, rather then buying a whole new set up for one move.

I just moved from Arizona to Nebraska and have enough minis to open my own FLGS.
I used many different types of containers; cardboard boxes, Army Transports, GW hard cases, tackle boxes, Rubbermaid tubs, and so on.
I've always found that it comes down to the material used to surround the minis, and not the actual container.
If it's packed tight, and packed well, it will survive. I use lots of foam, foam trays, softer papers like newspaper, paper towels, actual towels/wash cloths, bubble wrap, and so on.
Inside the box, build a buffer zone between your minis and the container, unless the container is built to actually carry minis. Then wrap minis and stack them in according to weight. Tanks on bottom, then the next biggest thing, and so on until you have the lightest stuff on top.
Last but not least, make sure your containers of minis are on top of everything else and nothing is on top of them.
