				<description><![CDATA[ Hey, I am a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(3);'>40K</span> player who wants to start a competitive imperial guard Catachan army I am starting off with 1000 points.<br /> I like armies that are mainly boots on ground backed up with brutal tanks and air support but i wouldn't mind putting a squad in a vendetta.<br /> Here is a competitive 1000 point list I have made for starting off.<br /> <br /> Company command squad/ 2 melta guns, lascannon – 90<br /> Marbo – 65<br /> <br /> Infantry platoon (200)<br /> Platoon command squad/ 4 flamers – 50<br /> Infantry squad/ plasma gun, autocannon – 75<br /> Infantry squad/ plasma gun, autocannon – 75<br /> <br /> Infantry platoon (200)<br /> Platoon command squad/ 4 flamers – 50<br /> Infantry squad/ plasma gun, autocannon – 75<br /> Infantry squad/ plasma gun, autocannon – 75<br /> <br /> Vendetta gunship – 130<br /> Leman Russ demolisher - 165<br /> Leman Russ battle tank - 150 <br /> <br /> I believe this list is quite well rounded and quite competitive. <br /> Please leave replies, comments and criticism are all welcome.]]></description>

I wouldnt give meltas to <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(19);'><span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(338);'>CCS</span></span> because if you fail, you will give 1 <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(140);'>VP</span> (warlord) to your opponent right away.<br /> <br /> Usually, <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(19);'><span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(338);'>CCS</span></span> have 4 Plasmas/4 Meltas   Chimera/Vendetta depending on unit role. I could go with one each as in one platoon is armed with heavy weapons and one is armed with special weapons to advance. This would free up points for a chimera for my <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(19);'><span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(338);'>ccs</span></span>, one <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(331);'>pcs</span> will be riding in the vendetta by the way.<br /> Are the leman russ' and vendetta good base?  ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Heavy weapons, because your units aren't mobile enough to warrant special weapons.  If you do decide to go down the heavy weapons path, I would get an Aegis defense line, 4+ cover save, difficult terrain etc, it even provides enough cover to grant vehicles (like a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(89);'>LRBT</span>) a cover save.<br /> <br /> Flamers are good, but in this style of list, where you are mostly going to be static, they are only good as an emergency killer of hordes that get too close to the lines.  <br /> <br /> Though, I think that a priority is to get a chimera or two, because <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(69);'>IG</span> really need the mobility on some form or another, squads in transports (not vendetta) would be best given special weapons, although not necessarily in the same quantity as you have given.  <br /> <br />   ]]></description>

Footsloging troops wont make it. However you really want thouse <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(5);'>AC</span> stationary as long as possible. Be ready to sacrifice such squads. Usually it's a home scoring loadout.<br /> <br /> </div></blockquote><br /> <br /> I believe that to split the firepower of these squads, leaves the army's overall firepower diminished.  If you move, you can't use the heavy weapon, if you don't move, then the special weapon is (usually) out of range.  It also means that if you have two squads with heavy weapons and special weapons, then rather than being really effective at one type of target, they are both sort of alright at taking on multiple targets. 				<description><![CDATA[ Your original list isn't actually that bad. My only real complaint about it is the relative lack of anti-vehicle. You've got autocannons and plasma guns to handle AV10, but you're somewhat shy in the AV12+ department. I'd seriously consider dropping the plasmas for meltas. With the points saved, you could either upgrade those flamers to plasmas, or work towards upgrading the autocannons to lascannons.<br /> <br /> Oh, and get a standard for that <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(19);'><span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(338);'>CCS</span></span> to keep your troops on the board longer.<br /> <br /> ]]></description>

Then drop the plasmas for meltas in the infantry squads and try to squeeze in all plasmas for one of my <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(331);'>pcs</span>. Would it be better to run both <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(331);'>pcs</span> with 2 plasmas and 2 flamers each or would it be better to go 4 flamers and 4 plasmas? ]]></description>
