Problem magnetizing bases

So I tried magnetizing some warmahordes models, and after initial success (or so I thought), I ran into a problem. I imagine my magnets aren't flush with the bottom of the base, because when left in the case for a good bit they eventually broke away from the super glue and stuck to the metal tray underneath.

Anyone have any ideas for a good fix to this?

Problem magnetizing bases

For what it worth, I might abandon the magnetized bases project for now. I'm finding the amount of magnetism required to keep figures from sliding around while on a vertical surface (like a briefcase) seems to need a bit to much force to pull the figures off the metal. I see a snap in my future if I repeatedly pull them off.
