The Winged Khornate Badarses

I Wasn't Sure if this should go in Army Lists or tactics as it contains both... so I have posted it in Tactics and put up a link in Army Lists... I call this tactic the Winged Khornate Badarses.

ARMY LIST
HQ:
Bloodthirster: Greater Reward, Exalted Reward = 300pts
Bloodthirster: Greater Reward = 270pts
Bloodthirster: Greater Reward = 270pts
Bloodthirster: Greater Reward = 270pts
TROOPS:
10 Bloodletters: Instrument of chaos = 110pts
10 Bloodletters: = 100pts
10 Bloodletters: = 100pts
10 Bloodletters: = 100pts
HEAVY SUPPORT:
Daemon Prince: Daemon of Khorne, Daemonic Flight, Warpforged Armor, Greater Reward = 240pts
Daemon Prince: Daemon of Khorne, Daemonic Flight, Warpforged Armor, Greater Reward = 240pts
TOTAL:
= 2000pts

UNIT BREAKDOWN AND TACTICS
The Bloodthirsters are all equipped the same (except the Warlord has a Portalglyph), they come with an Axe of Khorne and I give them a greater reward which I swap for the Blade of Blood, this way they get 6 attacks basic, +D3 attacks for Rampage, +1 attack for charging and +1 for having 2 specialist weapons, giving them the following potential profiles:
Regular Charge = 11 attacks at Strength 7, Ap2
Smash Charge = 8 attacks at Strength 10, Ap2
The Bloodthirsters are for attacking your S10 enemies, walkers, power fists, other Monstrous Creatures, anything that would instant kill my Toughness 5 Daemon Princes

The Daemon Princes are similarly equipped but do not come with any weapons standard, they also have a greater reward which I swap for the Blade of Blood, this way they get 5 attacks basic, +D3 for rampage, +1 attack for charging, giving them the following potential profiles:
Regular Charge = 9 attacks at Strength 7, Ap2
Smash Charge = 7 attacks at Strength 10, Ap2
Due to their relatively fragile defences, the Daemon princes have to steer clear of anything Strength 10, I use them for striking enemy vehicles that cannot fight back or units that lack the ability to fight back effectively

With 6 of these Winged Badarses the tactic is (assuming you go first) swoop all 6 into locations where they will be able to get the charge off in turn 2, the only way your opponent will take them down is if they ground one and then focus fire the shiz out of it leaving the rest of your army unharmed, nobody will focus their shooting on the Bloodletters when they have this strong of an immediate threat to deal with, all the while the Portalglyph is spawning more and more units of Bloodletters that can be used to hold objectives in your deployment zone or run to the enemies deployment zone for additional line breaker victory points.

There are lots of small tricks in this type of army, like issuing challenges so that you kill the champion in your turn and then the rest of his unit in your opponents turn freeing you up in your turn to charge another unit and issue another challenge, Minimising the amount of opportunities your opponent gets to shoot you down.

Fearless hordes can be a small issue but generally they will lack the strength to do any serious damage, most of the time they will hit on 5s and wound on 6s and when you add in the benefit of 3+ armor it is going to take insane amounts of attacks to take down a 5 wound Bloodthirster.

The lack of grenades can hurt when striking units through cover but this is usually avoidable and even striking last you still will beat most units with the profile these monsters have.

There are 3 things that I find to be a super hard counter for this army, one is Dark Eldar, massed poisoned attacks will severely ruin your day, 2 is the Necron royal court, all the mindshakle scarabs and other tricks they have end up making your greatest strength his weapon instead of yours. But the absolute worst thing this army can face is grey knights, bringing that many force weapons, all they have to do is sit in cover and you are going to be fighting an uphill battle…

I am in no way claiming this list is unstoppable and it is far from WAAC, but it is fluffy and fun, powerful and competitive…

Hope you like it, I would appreciate any feedback you have…

SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

As such, the Bloodthirsters will either make or break your matches.

Unfortunately, while I love how it looks, this *IS* going to be seen as an unfluffy/WAAC list. Two reasons, really - way too many points poured into big nasties, and not enough base units to counterbalance it. The FMC-circus was straightaway spotted as the go-to competitive option when the Codex came out, and 1 army-leading daemonic Lord per 8 other minor daemons is not how your typical Daemon army looks.

I do really like Skarbrand but he isn't fast enough. I imagine by the time he arrived the party would be over pretty much. As for the lack of troops, I have always pictured a daemonic assault as several powerful units wrecking up the place supported by an endless flow of minions, that is what I have gone for by using the portalglyph etc... create the feel of unlimited bloodletters supporting the bloodthirsters.... if only a bloodthirster could spawn like a tervigon I somehow doubt the troops will get shot up due to the fact the enemy will have 6 FMCs within charge range turn 1... who is going to be mad enough to target a crappy squad of bloodletters on the other side of the board? And even if they do you just target their troops with your FMCs and then neither of you have scoring except you have the ability to spawn more

Re:The Winged Khornate Badarses

After a lot of thought i decided i definitely wanted to get Skarbrand in there some how so i have tweaked the list a little bit to make the room.

HQ
Skarbrand = 225pts
Bloodthirster: 2 x Greater Rewards =290pts
Bloodthirster: 2 x Greater Rewards =290pts
Bloodthirster: 2 x Greater Rewards =290pts
TROOPS
10 Bloodletters = 100pts
10 Bloodletters = 100pts
10 Bloodletters = 100pts
10 Bloodletters = 100[ts
HEAVY SUPPORT
Daemon Prince: Daemon of Khorne, Daemonic Flight, Warpforged Armor, Exalted Reward = 250pts
Daemon Prince: Daemon of Khorne, Daemonic Flight, Warpforged Armor, Exalted Reward = 250pts

1995pts total

All the Bloodthirsters will take the blade of blood as one reward and one of the random abailities for the other, the Daemon princes now carry the Exalted rewards one of which will be the portalglyph and the other either i'm yet to decide on, possibly the eternal blade or the grimour... maybe one of the random abilies if i'm in the mood. I figured the eternal blade is a bit over kill on a bloodthirster seeing as the +D3 is better used on the lower Initiative and WS characteristics of the DP.

Compared to the original list posted above:

Bloodthirsters all get an additional roll on the Greater reward table giving them potentially 4+ FnP, +1W and it will not die, re-rollable invulnerable saves or a bunch of other stuff.
Skarbrand is in the house! he may be slower than a thirster but he gets flesh/armor bane, Initiative 10, instant death CC attacks, and creates a rage/hatred bubble making all the other units in the army even stronger again.
Daemon princes now have Exalted rewards over Greater, giving them a potential boost as well

what do you all think? prefer the original list or the Skarbrand List?

If fluffiness is not a concern here, Pink Horrors are a MUCH better choice for spawining from the Portalglyph than Blood letters. Even as a very small unit they still get the same firepower as a 14 model squad, and from long range, which is great for objective holders. True, the Change powers are not amazing, but they can be cast while keeping all but one of the models out of LoS, making for some pretty sturdy fire support. And, ofcourse, you might always get lucky and roll Bolt of Change on them, which is nice against termies.

Generally, my only issue with the list is that those Bloodletters are doing nothing much for their size, and I'd have preferred any other troop, like Plaguebearers or Pink Horrors. You need 20s for them to do their job. Then again, perhaps they dont have to, and fluffyness is good.

Soul Grinders instead of DPs is also a decent idea, you already have 4 BTs to push the opponent with. Then again, maybe speciaziation is the way to go to make this list work.

I prefer the first list, as Skarbrand will potentially mess you up, and does not keep up with the FMCs very well. The suggestion for flesh hounds is not a bad one, as they can keep up with your FMCs and tie up things you dont want to assault yet with a monster. There are bad matchups for this list type, oddly enough flyer spam is one of your biggest weaknesses because you are forced to reply with S6 vector strikes. I would prefer some soulgrinders to shore up weaknesses, but as you want maximum flying carnage, looks good. Against grey knights, vector strikes are your friends, as they are AP3 and ignore cover.

Good luck and have fun, I enjoy my Khorne FMCs.
