Foam cases for 40k army

Hope this is the right forum! So as the title states it, Im getting ready to move and I need to pack up most of my 40k stuff and Ive heard good reviews of bags or cases with foam trays.

As I play IG I have a pretty good amount(about 9) leman russes, 2 vendettas, 3 chimeras, and 1 manticore for all my vehicles, and even 1 shadowsword(but not to worried about him).

Then I have close to about 100 infantry models. So with that said what are some good companies that I could look into for this amount of models. There was one brand I saw but dont remember the name but the case was called the motorpool?

Thanks for the help!

Battlefoam are pretty good but is quite pricy. Im looking at getting a case soon to and will probably pick up a couple of there shield bags as they are pretty good priced and with pluck foam can custemise to what you want. Will probably end up with 2, one for infantry and one for vehicles.

Games workshop of course do cases, but I prefer battlefoam more as they have all the pockets and stuff to put all your books and things.

Thats all I know, but Im sure there will be many others who can give more insight than me

Since I need pretty high quality and customisable foam considering I have Tyranid army that I'll need to take on planes, I'm looking at KR Multicase, they have high quality, very customisable foam, you can fit a lot into one bag, and they cost significantly less than Battlefoam. Not that I have anything against KR, but Battlefoam is far, far better for Tyranids. KR is soft foam that tends to hug closer to the model. You'll tear your hair out when you constantly snap gaunt legs, scything talons, spikes and everything else that hangs off Tyranids.

Battlefoam is hard foam. Buy their laser cut sheets where appropriate, and they're cut so the models have about 3mm-5mm wiggle room. Don't worry - they won't wiggle enough to break. What it does mean is you won't catch spikey bits while taking them out of the foam. Also, Tyranids have lots of huge models now. Those full up cases fast - if you've for a sizeable army with a few Trygons/Tervigons/Hive Tyrants/Flyrants, on top of masses of gaunts, you'll quickly hit multiple KR cases. A ginle Battlefoam 1520XL will hold a big Tyranid army, and you can easily attach a Pack Plus to the top if you need room for more infantry trays (they have zip connectors, so cases just zip together and stay attached).

Really, if you're going foam storage for Tyranids, you'll want Battlefoam.

They sure do.

Looking at what you're trying to transport, I'd suggest the following.

Pack 1520XL (holds 25" of foam trays).
Baneblade tray (holds 2 Baneblade chassis tanks)
Leman Russ/Chimera tray (holds 3 of each)
Leman Russ tray (holds 5 Russes)
2 x 72 model troop tray
Heavy Weapons team tray if you have heavy weapon teams, holds 40.
Custom tray Since there's still 1 Leman Russ, 2 Vendettas and a Manticore, just use the custom tray creator to make a laser cut tray for those.

This is 22" of foam, so it'll fit in the 1520XL. There's about 40 more infantry slots than you need, an extra baneblade chassis slot, and you'd probably be able to fit another tank on your custom tray that's holding the vendettas, russ and manticore with clever positioning. You also have room for either tray toppers (which protect models that might stick out of the top of the tray) or another 2-3" tray. If you have no HWTs, subtract 4" of foam, and you can fit even more in.

However, this is going to be expensive. But then, Battlefoam is expensive. You get what you pay for, and Battlefoam is great quality, and this is basically a bag and storage laser cut specifically for your army.

I had a guy at my local shop come in today and he had just picked up a battle foam tray and its the one you listed above and I fell in love with the case. Once I get the money I will have to look into it again because I looked through my army and I actually have like 11 russes, 2 Valkyrie's, 4 chimeras, manticore. then the 100 some troops and I do indeed have heavy weapon teams. But thanks again for the help with battle foam stuff. My local shop also carries it and can get it in for me and I wouldnt have to pay the shipping cost. But with all the trays I need I do expect it to be pretty expensive.

So it gives you a little leeway with positioning parts higher. Occasionally they give you two depths, though I'd recommend always going with the deeper tray if you can fit it. Nothing it worst than a models arm popping off because it was too snug a fit.

Their Stalker tray is 5.75" deep, but you need to remember 0.25 is going to be the tray bottom, so it's actually 5.5" deep. So a 6"/6.5" deep tray is plenty deep if you're putting a Stalker in it. Considering that short of the Monolith it's the tallest model in the army, you won't have problems with the other vehicles in that tray either.

There's not enough height in a single bag.

I also had to make some compromises by magnetizing features to save space that I could otherwise just glue in (main offender: Trygon Scything Talons). I'm learning that magnetizing to switch options is great, but magnetizing to fit easier is just not worth it.

With Tyranids, Eldar (upcoming MC), and ally Tau (Riptide) I'm looking at a big chunk of space there. I'm debating adding Battlefoam and reserving it for the larger models, then using my existing Portable Warfare for the infantry that doesn't require a foam tray that takes up half the space of a bag.

I always recommend KR cases as they do the job and are cheap as chips. I do declare bias as I have 7-8 at this point. That said I will say that their site can be a bit confusing so have spent a couple of minutes having a quick/rough look and I reckon the OP could get all of the models he lists in 4 KR card multicases.

2x IG Set B - each holds Valk/Vebdetta, flight stand and 4 x LR/Chimera + 20 troops
1x IG Set E - Baneblade/Shadowsword, 2x LR/Chimera + 50 troops
1x IG Set F - 2 Basilisk/Manticore, 2x LR/Chimera + 50 troops.

Each of these is available in the UK for £32.99 delivered.

KR also sell a bag and aluminium Quad cases that will hold all of this. I didn't work out the cost for this but would expect it to add another £30-40 to the cost of the card/foam.

I always dug their bags, but it's far too small for my Tyranid collection. Your Necrons might just fit, but it's all pluck foam, so it won't be as space efficient.

The best thing to do with KR is email them your miniature list. To say their website was designed by an illiterate spastic monkey is an understatement. Send them your model list and they'll get back to you with what tray and case options best fit.
