TBH, the terrain is so dark brown, I can't help but to think it's "muddy". It's wet, and if it's wet, the plants shouldn't look dead. I would consider a much lighter earth to give away the feeling of dried earth. Or even some cracks, like so:

QFT! My thoughts exactly. Green or yellow grass works great for any army, as long as the base fits the grass so to speak. In this case you have a rather fertile looking base, and dead grass.
