I made a thread in the Showcase forum but things move too slowly there and nobody was giving me feedback. Should I continue with the dark brown/drybrushed grey dirt with dead arid grass, or switch to the more traditional, vibrant dark brown/drybrushed light brown with green grass theme?

Based on how desolate the ground looks it doesn't look like it'd rain much; I'd stay the course.

I went with green for my Soviets, but then I'm old school. Yours look fine to me.

TBH, the terrain is so dark brown, I can't help but to think it's "muddy". It's wet, and if it's wet, the plants shouldn't look dead. I would consider a much lighter earth to give away the feeling of dried earth. Or even some cracks, like so:

QFT! My thoughts exactly. Green or yellow grass works great for any army, as long as the base fits the grass so to speak. In this case you have a rather fertile looking base, and dead grass. Were the bases done in more deserty colour the yellow grass would fit much better.

The ground texture looks too even to be muddy. I would lighten up the ground color like they mentioned above. It will contrast with your soldiers and show them better as well.
