Tau glow effects from cracks

I'm thinking of painting the spaces/cracks between metal plates on my riptide's shield generator with a blue glow effect. Anyone have a good reference article or video for me? I'm debating on if I should paint the cracks before or after the plates and if I should dry brush the plate edges for a bigger glow

Thanks

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'll probably follow a technique like this (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/1170/237152.page), but would like your opinion on the order of painting cracks, plates, and glow effects.

The basic idea that I'm going for is that theres a ambient level of radiation coming off the shield generator under normal conditions (5++) that only extends about half way out from the core, but when nova charged (3++) the glow is pushed all the way out to the edges entire shield. So I'll have some of my riptides with nova charged guns, others with nova charged shields etc.
