Can they be worth using? i have heard of different tactics like, trying to get cover as much as you can while running up the board in a brood of 2 or 3, and have Dual ST, AG and frag spines. Then keep the brood near a squad of friendly infantry in case the get tar pitted. Also heard of having a brood with a Prime, do these tactics work, and are they worth it?

Even with the upgraded frag spines, you'll go last in combat. They don't have a high enough WS to hit more than 2 of their attacks each then you're looking at just being stuck in combat.

The typical load out for a CC fex unit also comes with bio plasma so the you're talking another 20 points a piece.

The worst past is they don't even have fleet so they are extremely slow to get to combat. You'll likely lose 1 by the time you finally get there T3.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I'm just saying, as a guy who has 9 carnifexes, there are ways to use them to the best of their abilities.
