Vulkan Lives. Wtf?

Am I the only one who dislikes this book?

Let me count the ways...

Spoiler:

More Cabal crap. They are now in the business of killing loyal Primarchs.

Emperor and Vulkan are perpetuals. So are basically immortal. Does this mean that after all of Horus' hard work the Emperor will just come back if they turn off the golden toilet? Or did Horus do enough damage?

My biggest issue:

The portrayal of Konrad Curze. In previous novels he is portrayed as a tragic figure yes. Driven insane by his curse he is still a prideful and principled guy in his own misguided, twisted, way. But this novel makes him pathetic. This is a guy who beat up Dorn and fought the Lion to a standstill for 2yrs almost killing him at one point. In Vulkan Lives he is reduced to a stereotype villan cackling in the darkness at the best of times. At the worst (ending of book) Vulkan beats him up with his bare hands (Konrad is fully armed and armored), naked, gets his hammer back and almost kills him.

Konrad pathetically begs for death basically crying while Vulkan chokes him. Oh then Vulkan uses said hammer that surpasses necron tech as a personal teleport to take him across the galaxy.

Just sad.

Vulkan Lives. Wtf?

I liked it a lot. I happen to like the Cabal story line, and i thought the juxtaposition of Vulkan, who really values human life, and Kurze, who doesn't value any life at all and is functionally a nihilist, was done really well.

And you must have read Kurze differently than I did, because I never saw him as pathetic or "crying" at all.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As to the emperor being a perpetual: you're missing the bigger picture. Sure the golden toilet is keeping him "alive" when, were he to "die" he'd simply come back, although we know from Vulkan Lives and grammaticus that perpetuals can actually be killed. But during the amount of time the emperor was being reincarnated, gak would get nuts. In The Outcast dead we get to see the catastrophic impact Magnus has on the "psyker network" when he crashes the emperors lab. Now imagine the impact that would have had if the emperor wasn't there to provide his "psychic glue", as it were, to all of those networks. Who's to say that small amount of time wouldn't allow hordes of warp spawn to just pour through the rift in that absence
