I know we have an NFL thread, but I was curious what some of the Brits on the site feel about the NFL game coming up between the MN Vikings (0-3) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (0-3)? Is there any buzz over the pond?

This year the English Premier Soccer League is also being promoted heavily int he states. Which ddo you think will catch on first, the NFL in England or Soccer/Futbol in the U.S.?

The Steelers, even though they missed the playoffs this past season have been a dominant force in the NFL and AFC North, and the Vikings made it to the playoffs without a decent QB (thanks to AP), but Jesus, one of these teams lost to the Cleveland Browns...
Both games sold out really quickly, and that's despite the Jags-49'ers game looking like a done deal when the tickets went on sale. Think the game is definitely getting more popular here; 2 cable channels now showing, 1 terrestrial, and the best cable channel is even showing games on Sky Sports 2 (and even 1 occasionally) - bearing in mind at one time it was on Sky Sports 4, in amongst curling and handball. On average there are 2 live games on a Sunday (with interactive), Monday night and Thursday games all shown live. I read somewhere that viewing figures have also been going up year on year, it recently moved into 5th (possibly 6th) overtaking one of the pub 'sports' (either darts or snooker, can't remember which).

As a big NFL fan will be going to the game on Sunday, and I can't wait for it! At this point I'm hoping the Vikings will notch it up a gear, but as the Steelers haven't looked ground-breaking at least it might be a close game (hopefully closer than the Patriots-Rams games last year in any case!)

Lol, I would never consider anything that goes on in cricket to be "action" Though I suppose if I understood even half of what went on there, it may become a decent drinking sport, a la baseball.

Test match cricket (the long one!) is officially the best TV-hangover cure ever, although F1 is a close contender. Nothing better than having a sore head, sitting with a cup of tea and some forward defensive shots against a spin bowler at about 1 run every 3 overs

20-20 cricket and one day internationals can be tremendously exciting though.

As a Steelers fan, I'm torn about this. Ponder was more likely to throw up all over himself. Then again, we've seen the best from Cassell and know he stinks. So do you want to face the young guy more likely to melt down but with more upside, or the guy with the good, solid professional quality stink? I dunno.

The Steelers have mostly been putrid so far, but they might be starting to come around a little. The offense didn't look incompetent against the Bears...it was all the stinkin' turnovers that sunk them. If they can get that kind of effort and cut down on the TOs, they might be decent going forward. They likely aren't going to dig out of a 0-3 hole, but hopefully they start the climb back to respectability in London this weekend.

Motorbikes because of the skill level involved, the capacity for personal over mechanical excellence, the danger/gladiatorial/emotional element of it (although I hate seeing riders injured, balancing on that knife edge between perfect control and throwing yourself into the scenery is surely something to be admired).

Like rugby as well, but despite the shape of the ball and the physical elements involved they are very different games. Love the strategic elements of NFL, that it has got ridiculous levels of depth if you are prepared to stick your head into it, but can also be enjoyed just for the basic element of seeing someone spinning through the air after running into a 400lb linebacker

Conscious of the flag on the left, will also say I think NFL is ten times the game of regular round-football soccer on various levels, but there we go..

NFL in London

I guess what made getting into NFL easier is the fact that Union is rarely covered in a regular basis where I live, so whilst I really, really like it, I don't get to watch it as much I'd like to. BBC usually get most international games but outside the Six Nations and the Autumn series, of which some games are bought out by Sky, the only opportunities to watch Union are going down to see my local team, which costs money and takes a lot of the day, watching Glasgow/Edinburgh games in the Pro 12 on BBC Alba, which is a Gaelic channel, or catching late evening highlights of the English Premiership, which is less than ideal since it's only a highlights show. In a week, there's probably more NFL coverage on regular, free TV than there is Union coverage in the UK.

So essentially, my understanding of Rugby Union isn't that entrenched.
