But acrylic rods are one good way to go.

It isn't. The rod is only 5" long so the model won't be high enough off the table, and the Secret Weapon bases are all way too small to safely hold a model as big as a Tigershark. For this kind of thing you want the set from Dragonforge (http://dragonforge.com/Painting%20service/for%20sale/sculpting_supplies.htm) with one of the large bases (probably at least the 155x200mm one). That will give you a 12" rod for proper elevation, and a base that is wide and heavy enough to keep a superheavy flyer from becoming an expensive pile of scrap resin.

Oh, and IMO skip the socket part. Either the 1/2" diameter or the 3/4" diameter ones. Half inch should be enough though.
