You shouldn't be suspicious of sensualist documentaries. You should just watch them with the curtains drawn and some tissues nearby.

Also I'm not really in favor of keeping dolphins and whales or any higher thinking mammal for that matter in captivity. I think the fact that people would hunt and kill some of the most intelligent and social animals on the planet, compared to ourselves, and not think of it as barbaric isn't surprising. Just because something is a tradition, doesn't make it right or immune to being changed.
