More boyz. Try to get to around 50 or 60 to form the core of any ork list. After that just get what ever you like. Everyone and their mother has an opinion on whats best and none of them are right or wrong. I run anything with wheels on it and have a ton of fun cruising around the table causing havoc. More competitive minded people are going to tell you to get Nob Bikerz. Figure out how YOU want to play and then go from there.

I am a new (ish) ork player and I agree with the more boyz advice. Lootas have been good for me, also burnas in a battle wagon is quite fun.

After I hit 100 boyz I branched out and got a dakka jet and some tank bustas. Neither have been very impactful on the table yet.

Remember to paint! And to play with what you have! It can be tempting to draw up 3k point lists and dream of massive games you will have in the future... But in my experience, it's much more fun playing with a small, painted army than a large one filled with orks who are clearly grey and plastic. You have enough models for a solid 500 or 750 point game, and if it's against someone who is also new you might even win! Before you have a few games under your belt, it's really difficult to know what you'll like and which strategies appeal.

(Especially with boys)

Honestly, the variety of (rather ramshackle) vehicles in the army is amazing, but I know an Ork armor army seems rather hard to field. T.T With a Battlewagon taking up my first Heavy support, I'm thinking of getting a Big Mek and taking a Deff Dread, as well as some Burnas and Lootas. Not sure if should take tankbustas, especially since Orks' don't antiarmor much anyways. I'm kinda meh about Trukks- they work exceptionally well as assault vehicles, but I'm cringing at the fact of the (not) fancy armor causing an entire Ork squad to be Ramshackled and wipe off the table on turn one, espeically against shooty armies like Tau and Imperial Guard. I don't want one of them big tanks blowing up all of my Trukks before I can move them twelve inches...

Thinking of getting a few Looted Wagons. Or maybe a Zzap cannon Big Guns battery. The ones with a Boomgun look like they will do some stuff.

And, is it just me, or are Killa Kans a better choice than Dreads? They have worse armor and fewer weapons, sure, but they shoot better and come in groups.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Dakkamite wrote:
My advice - lay off the serious games at least until the new codex drops.

Meh.
Glad to hear the Boyz will be getting the paint they deserve!

You might want to think about getting a deffrolla for you wagon- that one add-on turns it into one of the Orks' few anti-armor weapons. The beauty is, due to their shootiness(Dat BS3) they only cost about 45 pts a piece to field.

Kans can be risky in Purge the Alien though, where immobilize forces you to either decide to keep them together and blast away or split off from the immobilize and turn them from one Kill Point into Two.(This is also true in Big Guns Never Tire where they become a Kill Point.)

Like someone else mentioned, Big Guns or a Looted Wagon w/ Boomgun are a good HS choice also to look at. Big Guns will run you fewer points with more blasts(and T7 grots.) but lack the Large Blast pie plate.

If you want to switch to a Wagon army, Nob Bikers and more Battle Wagons! Give them Deff rollas so you can ram any cheeky LRs that run away from your bikers.

I was thinking Grotzookas as well. I'm going to be giving my orks all the pie plates and flamer templates that I can get them.

I'm not sure whether I should go for three small pie plates or one big pie plate. I mean, do I hit more in one shot, or do I get three precision shots? I'm probably gonna go for the Big Gunz, considering I can get a bit more for a bit more accuracy...

And when you first said that, I went and checked the FAQ, and was totally shocked that I could kill pretty much anything for a mere 30 point upgrade! Wow...

Wow...

Yes, Deff rollas can be amazing if played right. You must be careful though, our wagons suffer from being incredibly easy to get side armor shots on, which equals a quickly dead Wagon. The benefit you also have to remember is, a big mek can repair the wagon he is in, so with a deff rolla it can become a self-repairing paintrain against armies that can aren't dedicating any AV fire into your wagons.(Something killa kans can help distract from them by lobbing small blasts into infantry.) Take Grot riggers also if you are worried about immobilization

P.S. Another huge boon you have to remember when comparing the Big Gun to the Looted Wagon, it has BS3 instead of a BS2, doesn't suffer from "Don't Press Dat"(Doesn't happen often but can completely ruin the game unless you get a lucky situation that lets you ram or tank shock from the roll.) and considering the gretchen manning the turret benefit from being T7 it helps make them dead 'ard until a CC unit charges in to have a word.

The only thing on guns I'd suggest avoiding is Zapp Guns, in an army that is already pretty random, they become way too situational when factored in with other randomized shooters we rely on like Lootas and SAG. Lobbas or Cannons are definitely the way to go if you spring for some Big Guns though, Lobbas if facing anything hordie and take the Cannons for everything else.(Remember with Deff Rollas that Zapp gun's chance for a S10 is less needed and more risky since it has a chance to wipe out the gretchen manning it with repeatedly high rolls.
