What happens when an FMC (like a Flyrant) leaves combat airspace while it is joined to a unit of infantry (like Tyrant guard)?

Well, being that the Tyrant Guard cannot fly, the Flyrant cannot elect to fly (as doing so would break the 2" coherency). Also, the entire unit does not have the authorization to leave the board, so they cannot leave the board.

How I would play it:

Tyrant can attach to guard, and be treated as a normal MC. However, due to the fact that a Tyrant can not leave a brood of Guard, I would say that it could not leave the board for any reason until the guard are all dead.

Swoop away if coherency can be maintained, though! I think that would be very situational.

Well, I think at the very least, moving off the board is not moving in such a way as to maintain coherency. You cannot make that nice little coherency chain they state as the end result of a legal move.

I think I've just answered my own question.
