Is my 1st post but i've been around spying,complotting and gossip about ya all for a while now
However,i'm an old (in many ways) player and after some good years clashing my DE on the fantasy table i decided to go back to my 1st miniature game ever, WH40K!
Now aside boring detail i'm building a BA army and is almost complete,i ve been reading the new rulebook and after some snitchin around i belive i'm ready to try.
I made a 1750 point list but i wanna test a smaller one to get back into the game and rules.
My idea is to get in CC as fast and more effective as possible meanwhile i cover my objectives with some basic help.
I love the idea of the death company and the pain in the @$$ can be the stormraven when get into action with the dreddy and the assault squad storming from all sides.

Welcome back to 40k I take it that you like a challenge by picking DE and BA!!

So before anyone else gets in, I warn you now BA players on here don't like tactical marines lol. If you want something shooty may I point you in the direction of sternguard and their 5pt combi weapons, everyone else gets them for 10 I think!

See if you can get some transports for your troops. Footslogging, especially with our very expensive, and very small, units tends to favour your opponent. If we were slightly tougher than normal marines it could work but unfortunately we didn't get the love.

I like the dakka Baal but I would worry about one being too much of a target on its own. See if you can get a buddy to run alongside it.

Death company will no doubt cause a debate (they always do) but if you like then stick to your guns. They're expensive and can't hold objectives but if your opponent doesn't respect them they can cause a world of pain. Sometimes that distraction alone can be worth the points.

thanks for the suggestion,i think that i ll change with the sternguard with a rhino leaving the tactical marines and one assaulter,just unsecure wich weapon pick up,multimelta and heavy bolter sounds fair?

for the Baal i was thinkin to prove how good is cause i'd like some firepower without throw points on land raider.

The special issue ammo they use is pretty good and the combi weapons give you the best of both worlds for 1 turn (at 1k you shouldn't need to pop too many high AV vehicles).

Make sure to keep the Baal in cover as best you can. One unit scouting up at the start will be a big target so you need to keep it safe until the cavalry arrives.

Once you get some games under your belt you will get a feel for what works for you and you can update your army to suit that. I could recommend my favourites but if they don't suit your style then they won't be much use to you.

Ps - give Corbulo a try at some point. I understand what you mean and actually with those heavy weapon they go a bit out also of the "charge or die tryn" theme of my army. I just wanted some firepower,that's why I was thinking a razorback instead of the rhino.

Ye I actually had a fast game a month ago and my Baal(s) got abused in couple of turn from the enemy artillery ...

I was thinking to test some of the char but I don't know how much they are accepted nowadays in gaming tournament and new environment;I don't want get too dependent from them to loose them later on.
Anyway I know is a hell of point to use but the honor guard is friggin awesome!

What I'm about to notate is what I like to take when I get serious. For any fun games, standing around the table with buddies drinkin and laughing, I just take whatever tickles my fancy.

I always take a Storm Raven. Either barebones with MM and LC or sporting Hurricane Bolters, MM and TLAC so it can play a double roll. I've considered using the Typhoon on this set up but haven't bothered to proxy it in a game yet. And for 255 pts, it's a little hefty.

Next, I always take a Land Raider. Terminators are optional for me but something, Death Co or even just an Assault Squad in a regular LR or LRC makes a huge difference on the tabletop and if you do take it with the ASM, you get a discount!

While we're on the subject of terminators and death co: I always run my Termies (both kinds) and Sternies/Tycho with Brother C. He's my man for expensive, hard hitting units that I want to stick around.

As for Death Co, I don't think they need anyone to accompany them but I either take a big enough swarm with jetpacks (that they cost as much as my Land Raider +squad anyway) to pose a threat even before special weapons or I don't bother with the jetpack option and just put them in the Land Raider. This is a good place to hide my warlord, like a Librarian with Shield of Sanguinius and Unleash Rage, Chapter Master Seth or a Reclusiarch. As for weapons, I keep it simple. Two Thunderhammers or Powerfists. Anything that doesn't die to weight of Str 5 attacks, dies to Fisting.

As a general tip, I wouldn't mix weapons on squads. They do better with 2 x melta gun or 2 x flamer than they do with one of each. Same for the tactical squad and their weapons. There's a reason C:SM players take (combix, specialx, heavyx) because that's what works best.

On the subject of Dreads, I believe the best dreads are dreads in pods. For DC, I like to take Magna Grapple and Blood Talons so they can drop on turn 1, aim at a tank and not waste a turn of shooting and be a threat on turn 2. For the Furioso, replacing the melta gun with a Frag Cannon and trading the storm bolter up for a Heavy Flamer and putting him in a pod is pure magic.

For tanks, I believe the TLAC is a better Land Raider weapon and the Flamestorm cannon is much much more suited to the Baal Predator. With Scouts and Outflank, it's almost always guaranteed to hit something juicy and being fast it can always move 12" and fire the FS cannon and one Heavy Bolter. If only our Land Raider Redeemer was Fast...

And as your first responder noted, we don't like tacticals here feel free to use them, but me, I would always rather have a discounted or free transport, two special weapons and some extra attacks from CCWs in the unit than Boltguns and a Heavy weapon.

One final and very important note, get yourself some damn priests! Your marines are going to drop like flies!

It's always up to you what you take. I mean hell, I run Sanguinary Guard and Vanguard Veterans regularly, even though everyone says they suck, because their mechanics are different and they're fun units to throw on the table and at my opponent (S. guard's swords are very pointy indeed!) but this aint gonna happen in 1000 pt.
