The organization had to clarify that the finalists were chosen only by their "performances on the bestseller lists," and that kids' votes will ultimately decide the winners.

So while you do make the short-list on sales it doesn't guarantee you'll win on sales alone

Regarding the cover art, Limbaugh takes a heavy hand in everything done with his name on it. And yes, he had final approval of the cover. The caricature of Limbaugh in his Paul Revere costume is almost a cut & paste from his bottled tea company logo and the rest of the cover was clearly built around it. It's actually a bit narcissistic when you think about it.

Still, I have to be fair to the book and the award people and state that I don't know if the book is good or not but I do know that Limbaugh's sense of "art direction" has always left much to be desired. It wouldn't be unfair to say he's a bit lazy in this area.

Given the cover and title, I think your conscience can consider itself clean in this instance, as Limbaugh has clearly made a significant effort to make the book about him.
