First Battle - 200pt Kill Team (Deldar Harlequins vs IG Sentinels + Vets)

Hello there. Even though I've been an avid reader of DakkaDakka and have been building up my armies for some time, I had never actually played a game. I finally decided to get my feet wet with a small Kill Team battle. Both of us hadn't played before, so I bet we did some things wrong even though we tried to follow the BRB and Kill Team rules religiously
We didn't know each other's lists beforehand, even though we did know each other's faction.

Here's the battle report (sorry about the lack of pictures, my camera is gak anyway).

My Force -

We basically decided to start easy and go for the first Kill Team mission - Forward Push. We set up some terrain which consisted of some random pieces of junk we had lying around xD. We then used the tried and true method of Rock, Paper, Scissors to find out who deployed first and who would officially be starting first.

Spoiler:

He won the minigame and so got to deploy first -
He set up his Veteran Squad behind a small plateau A.K.A. a book.
He set up his Scout Sentinels in multiple locations.
One stood upon a rocky outcrop, A.K.A. a loo roll, to observe the battlefield grandly.
One hid behind a water tower, A.K.A. a coke bottle, like a pansy.
One stood in the open like a tard.

I deployed next -
I spread my Harlequins as far apart as possible, and each one was in some kind of cover at least.
The Death Jester got his own vantage point sitting atop a small building, A.K.A. a box of tea bags.

I rolled to seize the initiative, and succeeded (W00T) .

1st Turn Movement

1st Turn Movement Harlequins -
I knew I had to close distance to get into CQC ASAP, but had to try not to be left in the open when his units fired back.
Because of this all of my Harlequins pushed up field, trying to hug cover and not be in direct los with his units.
Basically my Harlequins acted like a bunch of pansies, quivering in fear of the Imperial guns.

1st Turn Movement IG -
The sentinel in the Open and the Sentinel on the Rocky outcrop stood their ground, whilst the Sentinel behind the Water Tower poked around the side to have a shot across the field.
The Veteran Squad charged forwards recklessly, not even bothering to use cover, closing distance rapidly.

1st Turn Shooting

Spoiler:

1st Turn Shooting Harlequins -
Out of the Normal Harlequins which were pretty much point blank with the Veterans -- only the 4 with normal Shruiken Pistols could fire (the fusion pistols were slightly out of range :/) They fired at the crazy rampaging humans, but one of them was so put-off by said shotgun-toting maniacs, he missed altogether --- earning the eternal ire of the Troupe Master , considering there was a whole line of 10 of them and they had charged head on and without cover. (If only Deldar had Commissars).
Out of 3 direct hits on the shotgunners, only one had the common decency to fall over dead.
The Death Jester from his vantage point provided some covering fire and caused two of the Vets to explode like grapes in a vice.

Casualty Count:
IG Casualties - 3
Harlequin Casualties - 0

1st Turn Shooting IG -
After charging across open terrain the dickish veterans lowered their shotguns and opened fire with a withering volley of 14 shells which were spread evenly across the all of the valiant harlequins who struggled against them.
All 6 Harlequins were hit and four were turned into a fine red mist pretty much instantly. Two dodged the blasts because unlike the other Harlequins, they had been smart enough to flick the little button labelled 'holo-field' on their belts. (The Troupe Master was among the dead though)
The 3 Sentinels all decided to fire at the most effective unit working with the Harlequins... the Epic and Boss Death Jester, defying them all from the top of the tea box. Needless to say, 6 odd Autocannon rounds versus a target with cloth armour who was sitting pretty like a peach to be plucked.... didn't leave much.

Casualty Count:
IG Casualties - 3
Harlequin Casualties - 5

1st Turn Assault

Spoiler:

1st Turn Assault Harlequins -
After seeing all of their comrades turned to mist, giblets and fine memories, the last 2 Harlequins prepared to charge. They clapped each other on the back, sang songs of vengeance, prayed to the Laughing God and then stepped out of cover. As they appeared from the bush, the first harlequin caught an over-watch shotgun shell to the face and fell immediately back in, dead . The last remaining harlequin screamed bloody murder and charged forth.

The last harlequin made it into close quarters combat with one of the shotgun toting madmen. Here is a poem to tell the tale, but first a little info (Base Veterans have 1 attack, Base Harlequins have 2):

One Harlequin there may be,
In battle he did see,
One attack more than thee,
And smiled with glee,
Then he found out he had in fact charged the one Veteran with an extra attack and got clubbed to death with a shotgun by a mere human, the end.

Casualties:
IG Casualties - 3
Harlequin Casualties -7
Tabled turn 1.
My force was entirely obliterated. Taking out only 10% of his total points for 100% of mine.
I personally think I couldn't have done anything better in that battle, tried to hug cover and get to CQC, but I think the problem simply was, what I was up against; too many bodies and bullets for my dancers to handle.
What opinions do you guys have on the matter?
