I think one book even implied they might have been Dark Eldar.

Though I'm sure by now that that's been retconned and his father is some Tyranid hybrid or something.

I'm pretty certain that whatever he was, he had some form of connection to Nurgleth or the Pantheon.

Edit: OK, I bought it and read it and it didn't have any real reveal about his past. Which was a bit of a let down.
