WoC is a bit odd? it looks like they are based off early/mid medieval knights, whereas everything points them to being massive Viking/Germanic/Mongol nut jobs.

Sure, the tribes they recruit from might be based on the classical barbarian. But they're not your average barbarian. Not always part of their bodies.
