Do you fiddle terrain?

Obviously in tourneys this cant/likely wont happen but do you ever move terrain ever so slightly to allow models to fit/pass/be placed/move etc.?
Not talking by huge amounts mind you, just very small margins.
Personally in friendly games I do.

Or is this like the old 1503 points in an army list where the limit is 1500 - i.e. small margins can sometimes have a big effect ingame.

Sometimes it’s easier to nudge a terrain piece, rather then risk a paintjob on wobbly model syndrome. I’ve done this, checking with my opponent, with the understanding that we are going to play it the way it should be, and move it back when able.

We also play with old area terrain rules for woods, so it doesn’t matter where the individual trees are. They get moved around a lot due to this.

At one point of the game you will realize that you dont need that 1foot cube building on the otherside of the table as all the action is happening else were so it might be a good idea to move it so we can roll dice there. and such.

we do that occasionally.

if need be sometimes we used to use dice to mark out the edge of a piece or model.

The tourneys I used to run had a caveat:

Terrain on the tables COULD be moved around (to fit fortifications in) but could NOT be removed - AND it HAD to be put back where it WAS at the end of the game.

This was in the player's pack. It was also mentioned at the start of each round. Still I had players whining that "player X" moved the terrain ...

If you can't fit a model somewhere, that means you can't place it there. Moving terrain is heresy. What is the point of terrain if you just move it around?

Agreed that moving terrain shouldn't happen. My last opponent closed a gap between a building and a Rhino thing JUST enough that my Tyrant couldn't get past, even with her old smaller base. So I couldn't charge that unit. If I moved the building even a centimeter, I would have killed that unit without problem. No terrain movement ever when it affects the game.

Moving useless crap out of the dice rolling area is fine by me though.

I use a marker if the base fits. Dice box, actual marker indicating direction of the model's facing and turn the model sideways in the case of my Flyrants. I have these nice little markers with directional arrows so the issue hasn't been difficult to solve. Other long models, I just hang them off the terrain sometimes (friggin Hormagaunts...). But in all cases, it's interacting with the model, not the terrain.

we always operate on the main rule that the game is about fun. If someone needs to nudge a piece of terrain a little or a model moves an extra inch here or there so that it can fit and not fall over, that's no problem. We don't sweat the small stuff with general friendly games.

Tournaments are a more formal affair and we play that it's okay so long as you clear the movement with your opponent before hand.
