As for the color, it depends on how bright you want the yellow to be. A white primer would probably result in a brighter yellow, but I've never had much success with white primer, so your move.

A Mek/Big Mek inside it with that relic would certainly help to keep it alive, the easiest way to get a bunch of meks is to purchase a unit of lootas or burnas and upgrade a bunch of them to be meks. Dont bother with the KFF Mek unless you have something else there to protect.
