Returning Iyanden player questions

Hello everyone!

I have been out of the game for quite a while (My last edition was Fourth), but I finally found the time to try to return to it all. I already read through the big book, and am planning on restarting my Iyanden Eldar, but have a few questions as it seems like a lot has changed in the meantime.

1) Is there any way in the game to field a lot of units of wraithguard, preferably as troops or something similar? I saw a formation, but it includes the wraithknight, which I would rather not use, if only because it seems a bit too large to me.

2) Does anyone know how large the bases of the current models are? And how tall are they? I would prefer to use the ones that I have, but perhaps I should put them a little higher so I don't get any unfair advantages for using older models.

3) Would it be advisable to get transports for my wraithguard? Or do they work just fine on foot? And does anyone know the dimensions of wave serpents? I'm considering converting a few from the wreckage of my Falcons (seriously, don't move a bunch of times with them).

4) How commonly used is this whole 'unbound' thing? Would it be frowned upon to build an unbound army, or do people do it all the time?

Thank you very much!

1) Yes, the Iyanden supplement is apparently still usable and lets you take Wraithguard as troops, the downside is that the book is really hard to find these days. The compulsory Wraithknight is definitely the downside of the Wraithhost formation, which is the other way to get a Wraith based army.

You could als try the Forgeworld book Imperial Armour Vol 11: Doom of Mymeara. This has a huge amount of formations that can be used with Eldar, though none of them take Wraigthguard but do use Wraithblades, the close combat variant.

2) The current models are on 40mm bases and are about 2-3" tall. There's no reason you can't keep using your older models though.

3) Aboslutely. Everybody knows they're dangerous, footslogging Wraithguard will be shot off the table long before they ever get into range for shooting. Wave Serpents use the basi Falcon chassis with only a few additions, should be pretty easy to do some conversions if you already have Falcons lying about.

4) Depends entirely on your local gaming group, there are a lot of people that don't like Unbound at all and refuse to play against it, on the other hand there are plenty of people who recognise that these days Unbound isn't really the best way to run an army so as long as you aren't doing something silly like a Wraithknight + Stormsurge army they wont have a problem playing agaisnt it.

The only way to build an all wraith army is via the doom of myamamamama book. But it only makes wraith blades the core requirement of the craftworld Warhost. your best bet is probably just taking a cad. 2x5 ranger as objective campers or bikes.

the army composition is going to be dictated by your meta I think ; if it's very competitive you should get waveserpent and probably the wraithknight. Serpent make wraithguard go from good to great (But still not op)

if not competitive taking 3 squads and some wraithlords to make a "wraithwall" should let you play you Iyanden and have fun.

The Iyanden codex might still be worth looking into, the shadow council is pretty neat. otherwise 2x spirit seer as hq choice Might be good enough.

You shouldn't hate the WK too much, you'll probably get used to it some day.

I personally loved assembling the plastic WraithLord so the WK appealed to me rather quickly (didn't like it at first though).

Wraith on foot are as unusable as ever due to their miserable range and movement, you would have to play against really non-competitive armies to stand a chance.
The very fact that you focus on Wraith only puts you at a really reasonable power level as you have many soft points so you shouldn't worry about that too much.

Ideally, Doom of Mymeara Wraith Core + Wraith Host with one WK + some Wraith stuff like the Hemlock and maybe additional Wraith units, including WraithLords to soften it all up.
Anyway, it's going to be a really nice looking army, I think I'll play that next game

The WK can be made not-so-strong with the shield or solar canon options if you're afraid of hitting too hard.
