There's no game rules about this though, so it's really just going to come down to what your play group are like. There are lots of advantages, and lots of disadvantages. If you're having stability problems it's because the centre of gravity is too high. Do what we did in the past and slap some lead weights under the base. If you don't have lead weights try pennies. My issue with these is I am magnetising bases for transport and storage and this tends to cause issues with the 25mm washer size (the central hole is not large enough to avoid the slotta base of the genestealers, unless I buy specialist washers and the cost isn't worth it for me) plus the nature of the mini (arms all sticking every way, all in that leaning forward running pose). I should try to cut them from the slotta bases and rebase on normal 25mm, but that is far too much work, leaves some very dicey toe tips for gluing etc.

My group would never have an issue in any way, so no worries there. I was really just wondering how much of a problem I might see at a tournament. Seems like pretty much all upside in upbasing them to me.

And yes, it could well be an issue in tournaments. Well, so at one point they did come with 32MM, so that might trump it? Or does the base rule add in "unless it's OOP...) I also have the old broodlord who is metal and standing arms wide, rather than crouching on a massive sewer pipe screaming target me!!! (Am I going to be accused of some sort of modeling for advantage running him? Sometimes that argument can get silly it seems.

In any case;
You may be right Stux and jhonnyhell. The model's footprint for CC is more determined by those arms than anything else. Same with deepstriking (and with blips every once in awhile that maximum distance from blip comes into play)
On 25mm I was thinking it would be easier getting a third row inside the "1" from member of unit", but the arms may stop that (That is measured from base and not any part of model). My tables have good amounts of terrain, and we have a full hive city/space hulk style board, so often width in an assault can be as low as 3" and rarely is more than 5" on those boards.

GW has even shown images of Genestealers on 32s in the Codex and various articles, so the originators of the game are clearly not against such rebasing.

But a tournament is a private event and can have its own house rules, I don’t have to agree with them.

For what it's worth, I agree they should be on 32s.
