To give you an idea. I'm thinking a small electric motor that bounces instead of spins the shelf and modifying the shelf with some egg crate foam or some such to keep the paint pots upright on the shelf. The small electric motor is easy enough, the shelf is easy enough, but I'm drawing a blank for a shelf I can bounce up and down.

The scientific thing was just for an example, I'm hoping to build my own for less than that $80, let alone the 400-500 your magnetic stirrer probably comes out to.

try Nail polish/lacquer shakers cost anything from 10-30 dollars.
