I'm thinking of building a paint pot shaker. There are several Laboratory shaker devices out there..

Here's an example from Amazon that's not too expensive - they're usually closer to a thousand than a hundred bucks - https://www.amazon.com/CO-Z-Orbital-Adjustable-Oscillator-Platform/dp/B07FCY2S1P/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=lab+shaker&qid=1566624376&s=gateway&sr=8-4

The concept is similar to what you'd find at a hardware store for house paint - https://www.amazon.com/Astro-4550A-Operated-Shaker-Oversized/dp/B00MJW4VQG/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=paint+shaker&qid=1566624515&s=gateway&sr=8-3

To give you an idea. I'm thinking a small electric motor that bounces instead of spins the shelf and modifying the shelf with some egg crate foam or some such to keep the paint pots upright on the shelf. The small electric motor is easy enough, the shelf is easy enough, but I'm drawing a blank for a shelf I can bounce up and down.

This shaker for a rattlecan may be a good starting point - Just make a stacking "shelf" that attaches to this machine, and replace the drill with it's own motor... https://www.amazon.com/Spray-Paint-Shaker-Mixer-Powered/dp/B07VYVW1BC/ref=sr_1_9?keywords=paint+shaker&qid=1566624515&s=gateway&sr=8-9

If you're using scientific equipment why not a magnetic stir bar? It's a little pill shape plastic piece you drop in a liquid, place it on an appropriately designed plate and magnetism causes it to spin and mix whatever it's in.

Much easier than mechanical shaking and much less chance of spillage.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Jigsaw + clamp seems like a cheap way to do it:

The scientific thing was just for an example, I'm hoping to build my own for less than that $80, let alone the 400-500 your magnetic stirrer probably comes out to.

Ooooh, that led to this one... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqA083rCgTs Which gives me an idea. Use that guy's motor or similar but larger. I'd like to get a tray that'll hold 20ish bottes at a time I can just put the oldest 20 pots in the tray and shake it up for a minute or two every so often - especially in the less frequently used colors.

I’ve been using a 30 billion bits of information a second computer connected to the most beautiful and complex bit of naturally engineered form on the planet earth, connected to a cocktail stick.

Seems to do the trick for a fraction of the cost your talking about

Not if you count how much you lose on the cocktail stick(s). I'm thinking of doing this as "preventative maintenance" especially on tertiary colors you don't use very often. Shake em up every couple months so you don't have to shake and manually stir them when you need them.

I also realized I was fixated on a tray that would hole them in something like a 5x5 square, I could use the clamp trick and just build a 2x5 or 2x10 tray.

I just duck tape the pot to a jigsaw.

Works a treat.

If you want something cheaper and that works fine (altought not as strong as mentioned previously)

try Nail polish/lacquer shakers cost anything from 10-30 dollars.

All these machines have around 1/4 to 1/3rd one-star reviews saying they break very quickly. Has that been your experience?
