can i come back?

so after watching countless youtube videos on hobby modeling and painting i started wondering if i am able to get back into the 40k hobby. i played back during the second and third edition days and had a decently sized thousand sons army. im not worried too much about learning all the new rules but i am curious how many of my models are usable with the current rules set. my models are currently in storage on the other side of the world and i havent seen them in years so i am doing this by memory. i believe i had two nine man squads of thousand sons each with a rhino, some daemons of tzeentch (both horrors and flamers), a five man squad of chaos space marines with heavy weapons, five or six terminators, a land raider, a defiler, a dreadnought, and i think it was a predator along with a few character models and a lord of change. from what i have seen with the little checking around i have done a few of these still seem to be quite playable. i just dont know if they are playable together and if i have enough to actually have a playable army. if this is enough to field an army i plan on having it shipped over so i can try to game again so any help some one can give is much appreciated.

You might have to do a few weapon swaps between termies or the Chaos Marines, a few named characters might not exist anymore, & you might not be set up optimally for the moment.
Or you might find you need to add a squad or two in order to make a particular detachment (the modern form of the force charts). I had this occur when I came back last edition - I found I needed a 3rd troop to make a battalion.

But yes, you're good to go.

MOST of that is playable together.

The lord of change and demons obviously are gonna be a demons codex group while the rest can be played together. The only difference is sadly that T-sons lost access to heavy weapon squads, terminators and some other stuff, but the rest should be fine..

An alternative method is to play a tzeentch favored chaos space marine list, and run rubric marines as elites instead of troops.

Another unfortunate side note is the Lord of Change got VERY BIG a couple editions ago. YOu'll probably have to run yours as a demon prince instead of a real lord of change.

Since 3rd edition, Thousand Sons have been given a stand-alone codex similar to how in 3rd edition there was a Space Wolves codex.

of the stuff you have, only the basic chaos marines with heavy weapons would seem to be not available to the current Thousand Sons and Chaos Daemons of Tzeentch armies.

An army of rubrics in rhinos, some rubric terminators, a few characters, a defiler, a dreadnought, a predator, and an allied detachment of tzeentch daemons with a lord of change, horrors, and flamers would be perfectly solid in the current edition.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

tneva82 wrote:

Peterhausenn wrote:
so after watching countless youtube videos on hobby modeling and painting i started wondering if i am able to get back into the 40k hobby. i played back during the second and third edition days and had a decently sized thousand sons army. im not worried too much about learning all the new rules but i am curious how many of my models are usable with the current rules set. my models are currently in storage on the other side of the world and i havent seen them in years so i am doing this by memory. i believe i had two nine man squads of thousand sons each with a rhino, some daemons of tzeentch (both horrors and flamers), a five man squad of chaos space marines with heavy weapons, five or six terminators, a land raider, a defiler, a dreadnought, and i think it was a predator along with a few character models and a lord of change. from what i have seen with the little checking around i have done a few of these still seem to be quite playable. i just dont know if they are playable together and if i have enough to actually have a playable army. if this is enough to field an army i plan on having it shipped over so i can try to game again so any help some one can give is much appreciated.

You would need several detachments costing command points(daemons and marines separate, basic chaos marines and thousand　sons separate). Fortunately both CSM and TS really want a winged one, so it's a plus. Also, depending on terminator loadout, you might want to run your list as CSM so you could run your havocs and terminators natively in one book. That way you could also pick different trait to change army playstyle if you wanted to.

It was even cooler than I remembered. Each type of chaos daemon had it's own summoning pool, and you generated points for doing certain things. I.e., to summon Khonre daemons (bloodletters or whatever) you needed to first wound units in melee, and each wound gave you summoning points. Naturally things synergized so Khorne Berserkers were awesome at wounding in melee. The best part were the greater daemons, which would consume and take over a character model with the appropriate mark of chaos to be summoned. Pretty bad ass.
