But yeah, skip the origin story. There needs to be a rule; if your franchise/character has had an origin movie in the last 15 years you cannot waste everyone's time making a new one. Well, the Hulk movie were pretty sub par. When he's in the avengers movies though, it's much btter. I agree with this entierely; he's far more interesting to watch than Macguire ever was, and far more a reflection of the Spiderman I'm familliar with from the comics (and also various videogames actually). He has developed well over the 2 films so far, it would be a shame to cut that off and start again. I honestly don't get the dislike of the ASM films, but then I also like X-men 3 and Origins: Wolverine...

I think with recasting Ruffalo as the Hulk/Banner, Marvel made a very good call as he was great in The Avengers. I think the issue with a Hulk solo movie is that it's difficult to capture the dichotomy of introspective character driven Bruce Banner stories and HULK SMASH rage fight stories in the same movie as the sole focus(vs the Avengers where you have it as a sub-plot the rest of the cast reacts to/around) and keep the average non-comic fan movie-goer interested. You have the issue where you're trying to draw the drama crowd and the action crowd into the same movie and have to sacrifice too much trying to please both. Hulk works better in episodic stories and arcs than he does in film.

I didn't mind Garfield or Toby, they both had different aspects of Parker that I liked and disliked. I just hope the new guy they get is a "just right" fit for the role.

Sony was smart in finally agreeing to this deal given that Marvel Studios has been going strong for a few movies now. Also by bringing Spidey into the mix, they BOTH are certain to rake in lots of cash.

Eugh, I second this. Tried a couple of times, but I just can't get through an entire episode.

I also take issue with the new 'Ultimate (I think?) Spiderman' cartoon. Replacing 'Spectacular Spiderman' with that dreck made me deeply unhappy. I don't trust Marvel with cartoons atm (which is wierd because Disney is doing some great things atm). Hell, are there any good superhero cartoon series right now? Any at all?

Add in that Garfield would look pretty perfect with the current crop of super humans (because he'd look appropriately weedy) and I think it works. I'm also slightly justifying not rebooting and keeping Garfield around. It's been a while since I've been able to bring myself to watch it, but I believe Widow had some backstory done in Iron Man 2, and I'm pretty sure the pre-Avengers Hulk film coverd his origin at least briefly. Hawkeye has nothing, but how much backstory does 'man who is good with bow' need? (Ok, doing by Arrow, a lot, but that's beside the point)

If they are in fact scrapping Garfield and the ASM series, I would honestly rather them go with one of the other Spidermen there have been. Marvel are against origin movies now. Even in phase 1 Hulk didn't get one, because everyone already knows how he became the Hulk. Just like everyone already knows that Peter got bitten by a radioactive spider and instead of getting cancer or dying from poison, he got super powers. Look at some of their newer properties - Guardians didn't have origin stories for the team members. The most we got was Quills intro which was simply to explain how an Earth child wound up on the other side of the galaxy with a bunch of mercenaries. Ant Man won't be an origin story - Hank Pym is an old and retired Ant Man, and the movie will be a 'legacy' movie where he passes the torch. Even the series for Netflix seem to be skipping the origin stories.

It's also been hinted at in the movies so far that SHIELD knew about a lot of heroes in the world already. The Avengers were just the guys Fury personally wanted in his 'response team'. If they reboot Spiderman again, guaranteed he'll show up in Civil War as if he was already there. Funny enough, that was why I liked his portrayal so much. He was deliberately far from word-perfect with the lines, so actually sounded human and fallible, without going to Shia LaBoef levels of stammering, stuttering or repeating every third word.

Better some ticks and infletion than just reading lines from a script, especially for a character like Parker who is famed for being easy-going, wisecracking, and making it up as he goes along. The best example being the scene where May asks about his soot-covered face

Sony is going younger with its next Spider-Man.

Now that Andrew Garfield is hanging up the red and blue spandex, Sony Pictures is getting ready to put out a casting call to find its next webslinger. The plan is for the character to go back to high school in the next films, Variety has learned from sources with knowledge of the studio’s plans.

Several actors have already been mentioned as being considered for the role, including “The Maze Runner” and “Teen Wolf’s” Dylan O’Brien and the “Percy Jackson” franchise’s Logan Lerman. Lerman most recently co-starred in Sony’s “Fury.”

Actors have yet to be approached, and sources say Sony is looking to hire a new director to replace “The Amazing Spider-Man” films’ Marc Webb before tapping a new Spidey. The studio also needs to figure out whether it wants to go with another Peter Parker or introduce another character that suits up as Spider-Man, including Miles Morales, whose father is African American and mother is Puerto Rican.

Sony has put the character, played by Tobey Maguire and Garfield, in Midtown High School before, but the plan is to spend more time in the setting and explore his awkward relationship with other students while fighting crime out of the classroom. Midtown is a major setting in the comicbooks, and Peter Parker also returns to the school to become a science teacher in storylines.

Sony needs to move fast, since Marvel wants to introduce the new actor playing Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War” in theaters in 2016 before launching his own solo franchise at Sony in 2017.

Come on, H: skipping the second line of my comment? Rhodey HAS been Iron Man. Punisher HAS been Captain America. Both lasted a short time. Rick, as I stated, was just gamma bombed. But just like Rhodey and Castle, Miles was somebody else who took up the mantle of a certain hero when that hero was incapacitated. In the case of Spidey and Cap, it was when they died. Cap came back, the real Spidey stayed dead. Still doesn't change the fact that Miles sucks. A large number of Ultimate versions of mainline Marvel characters are dead and have stayed dead in Ultimate. A good example is Logan who has been dead since the Ultimatum event in 2009, his son James Logan Hudson has been Wolverine ever since (a whole lot of X-Men were killed actually and have not come back).

Miles has been Spider Man for 3 years now. There is at this time no reason to believe Miles will ever stop being Spider-Man (At least, no reason to believe Peter will return to take up the mantle especially since he's still dead on Earth-1610 as far as I know). Peter's death was more than just a stunt to sell comics. Miles is a permanent replacement and isn't going anywhere (to the best of anyone's knowledge). The MCU is it's own timeline. Why not use Miles Morales instead of Peter Parker? I'd go see it if only for a change of pace cause I really don't need to see Peter Parker's origin story a third time in the same decade!

Before this news, there was a Venom: Carnage film scheduled for 2017, which I believe was going to focus on the anti-hero side of whichever host they go with, rather than an out-and-out villain (Carnage would fill that role).

That said, the fate of that is now up in the air, I guess, along with the Sinister 6, Black Cat and possible other spin-offs that were planned.

Which is, as I may have mentioned, really, really annoying! The end of ASM 2 set up something that could have been really cool, and I imagine we'll never get to see that story finish.

At the risk of much nerdrage, I'm going to go ahead and say this is the worst premature cancellation since Firefly!


On the subject of a non-Parker Spidey, or a non-Rogers Cap, or a non-Stark Iron Man, I imagine we'll have to get used to that soon enough. With a combination of contracts and time, after Infinity War I predict a huge change in lineup, roughly along these lines for Avengers 5+

Captain America: Bucky Barnes
Iron Man: Rhodey
Warbrid: Carol Danvers
Quicksilver
Scarlet Witch
Possibly another Thor, or Thor-stand-in.

This really irritated me when I read it, for one simple reason: If anyone at Sony, Marvel or whoever else gets their hands in the rights in future ever makes the decision to use Morales rather than Parker, the reason for that should be only that they think he offers something different/new/interesting in terms of storytelling and the character they can work with. It should never be a decision made on the basis of 'we need a black Spiderman'; his ethnicity shouldn't even be brought up unless it's relevant to the character.

It's the same issue I had with the media focus on the Black Panther announcement. Instead of 'Oh, look, Marvel are doing a film about this cool character', most of the media coverage instead made a fuss of saying 'Oh, look, Marvel are doing a film with a black lead!', which is a complete non-issue. Some characters are black, some are white, and the day when that isn't even brought up when an announcement made or a discussion is held is the day we can celebrate actual equality. Miles has come out as one of the high points of the Ultimate Universe. The character is good. He's a critical and financial success.

The situation doesn't really matter from an audience perspective. The role is becoming a bit of a revolving door.

Of course, Bruce Banner hit the "3 actors in 10 years" mark too. But then Banner has never been that great of a character...it's the green guy that audiences gravitate toward. And it doesn't appear that Ruffalo will be getting his own solo film and origin story either.

We've also had *5* Spider-Man movies in the last 13 years with other actors that have covered many of the biggest villains and storylines. I'm not sure what new ground there is to be broken other than the novelty of having him in the MCU. And they could still do that with Garfield (and even do a 'soft reboot' if they want), something Sony would undoubtedly be just fine with since they cast him in the first place.

I'm not sure that I see compelling reasons for another full reboot and recasting in this particular case other than some ego and control freak tendencies on Marvel's part. Hell, half of the audiences probably thought the last two films WERE MCU stories.

I think the idea is that all future Spiderman films will be Sony-funded, Sony-Marvel produced. In other words, Sony still stump up the cash, but Marvel keep some degree of creative control to tie them into the MCU.

I would love to see Mysterio in a future Spiderman film. I don't know if it would work, but that would be a fascinating effort to watch. Imagine a superhero movie where we don't see behind the curtain. Perhaps our viewpoint is in possession of the Macguffin, or simply unwittingly related to the costumed crusader's alter ego. Either way, they struggle to live their normal life as wildly improbable disasters occur around them- perpetually saved by some masked vigilante. They come to feel cursed, then creeped out by this crazy stalker, and finally develop stockholm's for the weirdly devoted freak. I have no idea how you'd end it, or keep the audience interested. And in all the ways that would matter to someone like Mysterio, so is Parker. He has a secret identity, discover that and you have all kinds of weapons. He tries to be a hero wherever he can; it is very easy to trap him through engineering those situations. He has ideals, which can be forced to breaking point.

Mysterio isn't going to risk a great plan on a brawl with Spidey, he's going to outthink him at every turn and have Parker running in circles trying to stop everyone he loves from being mercilessly killed while also trying to stop him and save however many innocents Mysterio is planning to blow up. He's not a world-level threat, but he's not meant to be. To me, Spiderman has always been the route to more personal stories, about him and his enemies rather than the fate of humanity.

Parker is science-smart, but I've never seen him as plan-smart to be honest. That, and as I said, he has a lot of facets that would make him very predictable and easy to manipulate. Gwen's death is a perfect example of him try too hard to do good and failing because of that, now scale it up. Let him play the hero, and in doing so, lure him into a trap. MCU has already changed several characters to fit the story better (with varying degrees of success), so I don't see why they couldn't do the same here. It's almost like it was a theme in the movie.


What I'm saying is that Mysterio could easily work along the same lines. MCU has already changed several characters to fit the story better (with varying degrees of success), so I don't see why they couldn't do the same here. I think having Spiderman fight someone against whom all his power is basically useless would be a far more interesting plot that someone like Venom, Goblin or Rhino.

Actually, that's such a standard procedure in Spidey comics that he DOES have plans for the more common ones. In fact, when Mac Gargan first got the Venom suit and was told Spiderman's identity, his very first act was Spidey villain Plan A: go after Peter Parker's loved ones. Hell, he even intentionally recreated the Gwen Stacy scenario with Mary Jane. Of course, the very next day after Gwen had died, Peter had actually looked into why(a single strand of webbing is too little contact to save someone, hence Gwen's broken neck) and had a plan for if he ever needed to do it again(20-30 quick bursts to make several contact points).

Hell, I even provided you an example where he pre-planned for a contingency he never expected to happen. If that doesn't prove Peter's plan-smart, I'm not sure what will convince you.

The Joker has *always* been about schemes and plans. You see this throughout the character's history in the comics, and while he gives Bruce those binary options in TDK, they've been carefully orchestrated. They aren't random. The Joker in most incarnations wants to cause mayhem and likes to feth with people, but his plans never resemble truly random violence or actions. They're thoughtful and sophisticated. If he was really about randomness, that'd take his best asset out of the mix...his intelligence.

He certainly pretends that he's an agent of chaos, and even in TDK you see that in the hospital as he pushes Dent in his desired direction. But that was "all part of the plan," right? Conversely, while Bruce is the champion of order in many ways, his nature tends to more reactive and not about careful planning.

The Joker is actually kind of a phony...and I guess that's part of the joke. The Joker's phoniness on this point even came up in the books within the past few years...was it Dick that confronted him about it during Morrison's run? I'd have to go back and look.

Honestly, it depends on the writer. Some writers do make it meticulous and exacting and some make it more random and chaotic. I think the Animated series really hit the balance better than anyone. It's most noticeable in the episode where he's having an issue figuring out his piranha death trap and how to make them smile. It's stuff like his utter rage that Harley came up with the simple solution of hanging Bats upside down that really nails home the fact that yes, he plans, but it's not about whether it succeeds or not, it's about the joke. That's where the part about the plans being random comes in. I know a lot of people love Hammil's Joker cause it's Hammil, but he's my favorite Joker cause the writers were really good at nailing down the whole "here's a man who wants the world to believe he's insane while he's really the sanest person in the room".

I hardly see those characters as being much fresher ground. We've seen all those characters in other films already. Catwoman's been in 2 plus a solo film (albeit not the Selina Kyle character). Meanwhile, the Joker's only been in 2 of the 7 Batman films we've had since 1989. He's also Batman's arch-nemesis. It is not part of Civil War. It's the Marvel writers being so utterly uncreative that they couldn't do anything but absolutely suck writting stories in a world where everyone knows who Spider-Man is, so instead of not sucking, they just decided to press the reset button on the whole thing and erase years of character development in a terrible plot line that was even worse than the ones that came before it.

Call me a hater, but honestly, the writing quality of most comic books is at best, on par with mediocre fan fiction (its in bold so everyone knows I'm really dead fething serious). A huge part of it is the absolute unwillingness of writers in the industry to live with consequence. They'd rather just press a reset button, and either rehash terrible plots they've already written or produce brain dead new ones, than actually build a plot line where people have to live with their choices. ... is perhaps the most succinct (not to mention truthful) explanation of the problems comics have. But, at the same time, I don't mind, because I often like the stories that lead to the reset.

So, for example, right now in Marvel comics Wolverine is dead. The whole "Death of Wolverine" was a big series that went on for a while. But is Logan going to stay dead? Of course not! But the story that brings Logan back could also be interesting, so I don't mind that the "death" is temporary, because the story of how he died and how he came back could make for an interesting read*, so I just live with the way comic books reset everything.

It's just that for me, while the journey can at times be fun, after years and years, it gets hard to even find fun in the journey, because I know that very soon (usually within 6 months or a year) nothing from that journey will have any meaning. It'll be retconned, forgotten, ignored, or at worst repeated as if it hadn't already happened. It probably reflects badly on them, but one major issue is the writers themselves. Comic Books switch in new writers and artists frequently, and often give them a lot of leeway in what they can do. Unfortunately, a bad habit has developed where a writer, if they don't like how the character or series was previously being handled, will retcon, ignore, or diminish the work of the last author in the series. I know a strong example of the behavior but its in the Star Wars EU, not comic books;

Have you ever heard of the Solo Wars? It was a behind the scenes 'civil war' among the writers of the Star Wars EU, concerning character Jaina Solo. It began as a simple conflict of characterization. She would bounce back and forth between four or five different personalities, at first because the writers were trying to define her, and then very quickly later because they were actually waging war in print over which of those personalities was their favorite. Eventually that part of the conflict ended and writing of the character became more consistent. Unfortunately the war continued as the 'Jagged Fel' and 'Zek' factions started fighting, really creepily I might add, over who her love interest would be. It ended in the ultimate case of awfulness, the Dark Nest Trilogy, where the author of the series tried to force a resolution to the Solo Wars by having Jaina and Zek have lots of alien mind control sex (I'm dead serious). It didn't work, in part because the series was so bad that when you added the creepiness of mind control sex, no one wanted to touch the Jaina/Zek ship anymore. Further, the sheer popularity of the Fel Empire in the Star Wars Legacy comic series, was something of a shadow play by another author to end the conflict and one that worked much better than the Darknest Trilogy. So now Jaina is married to Jagged Fel and everyone has pretty much just shrugged and said "yeah okay." But don't worry! There's now the Ben Skywalker/Vestara War to keep anyone who loves author drama entertained. This behavior can be called "Running the Asylum."

^So it's basically like that. It's a common problem in multi-creator projects with a very weak central control. It's made worse in comic books, because the retcons are now often turned into grand events, which make a lot of money, so the brokenness of it all is just being reinforced as something that's good for business. Even terrible events like One More Day, which was pretty much universally panned, made a lot of money simply riding on sensationalism. EDIT: And this behavior is probably most observable in how most comic book heroes have a revolving door of women/men in their lives. One of the oldest examples is the war waged over Gwen Stacey and Mary Jane Watson way back when (and we all know how that war was resolved).

So a decision has to be made. Keep making money and stay this discombobulated and mediocre mess of a continuity (one that runs the risk of eventually killing itself from sheer repetition). Or run take a very difficult road where the continuity actually starts to mean something, but where that sensationalism is going to end up needing a lot more creativity to maintain. Being childish works if comic books are okay with being a juvenile medium. But they're obviously not. For years now there's been a push for more mature stories. More mature content. This childish lack of consequence, cannot exist if comic books want to be taken as something more serious/mature. You have to have a villain the hero is capable of entering a fistfight without one of them turning into mist. Plus using the Superman movies as example is a terrible idea given that most of them sucked and did miserable at the box office compared to the game Marvel plays.

That's a rather arbitrary standard. The only reason Terry became Batman was because Bruce was too old to continue, and suffering from a crippling heart condition* (incapacitated, one might say).

That said, I think I've come around to the opinion that a Spider-Man series should not start with Miles. Peter's death is as integral to Miles becoming Spider-Man as Uncle Ben's was to Peter. The difference is that Bruce basically handed down the mantle to Terry McGuiness.
Morales and Grayson take up their mantles not because they're given the opportunity by the hero, but because the hero in question is dead and both feel that there is a necessity for the hero to exist.

No, you guys aren't getting it; Miles replaced Peter Parker, in the comics, with absolutely no precedence for that to happen. Miles also became just as popular if not more so than Peter. They already have taken a Known and replaced it with an Unknown and it worked.

Now, they have the opportunity to do the same in the movies, but you guys are against it. Is it because you believe the general movie-going population is against it? Or something else?

But in the comics, they have already replaced Parker with Miles, it succeeded, and they can no doubt do the same with the movies now that there is a precedence for the character. Saying Parker to Miles would never work for Brand Recognition's sake is absolutely, positively false, because it already DID.

Regular people, not people like us, respond to things they know an understand. Peter Parker is a known quantity. Suddenly swapping him out for Miles Morales wouldn't work. It is ------NOT------ the same thing as the unknown Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel had to introduce them to us completely. It would be more akin with replacing Tony Stark with John Smith tomorrow, yet still having this new guy in the armour. It would be jarring.

Comic book movies exist on a precipice where they try to please the fans of the comics, but also appeal to a wider non-comic book-reading audience. Tip too far to either side and you lose the comic book fans, or you lose the audience. We've had 5 movies worth of Peter Parker. They're now going to reboot him for a third time, and people might not be so willing to board the same ride again. Completely changing the character at that point would be even worse.

If you just looked at Marvel's new poster for Avengers: Age of Ultron, you likely noticed the team being plagued by Ultron robots (and some perspective issues). But a closer examination of the credits finally proves that the Falcon and Agent Peggy Carter will star in the film — and they might not be alone...

Yes, actors Hayley Atwell and Anthony Mackie are listed in Age of Ultron's extensive credits, confirming a few rumors and refuting a few protestations. But the really interesting inclusion is composer Danny Elfman, who's listed as providing "additional music." It might not mean anything, but it's worth noting that Elfman composed the music for the first two Spider-Man films, and if Marvel just happened to get approval from Sony to include Spider-Man in the MCU at a very recent date, when Age of Ultron was already pretty much done, but really wanted to include a brief scene of Spidey into the movie anyways, and if they needed to get a bit of music quickly for such a scene, well, borrowing a bit of Danny Elfman's score from the Raimi Spider-Man movies would be a very, very obvious choice.

Of course, Marvel could have just hired the prolific composer for a totally un-Spider-Man-related reason, and the fact that Elfman has been added to the Avengers 2 credits at this very late date shortly after the Sony/Marvel Spider-deal went down is a total coincidence.

There are mainly two;

Miles Morales, who became Spider Man after the death of Peter Parker in the Ultimate Marvel Universe. He is one of the youngest super heroes Marvel has ever produced (he became active at 13).

The other is Miguel O'Hara, a geneticist who replicates Spider-Man's powers in the year 2099 (presumably long after Peter has died of old age or some such).

That's how I feel too. Seems like before if they made a film of questionable quality they just pressed on with the sequel. Sometimes it was better sometimes it was worse but it's better than constantly rebooting franchises?

Age of Ultron has a big Final Battle that perpetrates a lot of carnage, and Stark sobers up to the fact that this time, it's all on him. Thus, he decided the team (and various other 'Gifted's need to be more accountable for their actions, and presses for a SHRA. Meanwhile, Thor sods off to Asgard for Ragnarok.

Cap does his whole 'stand up for Freedom' thing and it then goes down largely as per the comics. Spidey unmasks, before switching sides. Cap may or may not cop it in/after the final fight, paving the way for BuckyCap.

This leaves the Avengers completely shattered, until Thanos arriving manages to unite them all. I imagine Infinity War part 1 might basically be Thanos pasting everyone enough to convince them to get their act together.

What I will be interested in seeing is whether they go down the route in CW of Stark bringing villains into the fold as well. Seeing as unlike in the comics, most of them have actually been killed off I doubt they will, but we could see some

True, I am worried about a super hero burst though, with the recent DC stuff.


How they handle Batman Vs Superman will make or break DC, but if it goes well (and given how awesome Man of Steel was, I have high hopes) then I reckon in 5 years Marvel and DC will be on pretty much level pegging. Marvel gain a bit by finally getting Spidey back, though.

The way I look at it, the quanity and track record of quality of super-films coming out at the moment is only a good thing, and a great time to be a fan.

This is where I think Marvel starts to flirt with the ego thing I mentioned. "We're going to give you BuckyCap and you're going to love it because we're that good and our characters are that good." And of course this is complicated by the fact that there isn't a Marvel Studios if they aren't making films about Marvel characters.

WB is in a totally different position...if people get superhero fatigue, they'll just focus on their other tentpoles. And/or wait a few years and reboot Supes and Bats. WB isn't stop making Batman films because Ben Affleck's contract is up, and they aren't going to start making Jean-Paul Valley Batman films in the name of having a "universe" out to 2028. I really don't think the DCCU is going to last past the announced films, for these reasons. And that's 100% okay. But yeah, my worry is once you replace Evans and Downey Jr. (less so Hemsworth if you do) you start to run the risk of the most liked people in the series not being there anymore. Not many people really care about Renner or Johansen and I think that since they aren't going to do seperate Hulk films that Ruffalo will stick around since it's generally one movie every 3-4 years which isn't to tough on his schedule and he doesn't have to crazy bulk up like Evans or Hemsworth or to a lesser extent RDJ.

I tend to think that their unique kind of film-to-film momentum will help them with the transition. And it sounds like Marvel does a decent job of keeping film budgets under control. If they keep making appealing films, audiences will probably warm up to new faces. Still, audiences can be fickle, and it might only take a couple of "meh" films for the whole enterprise to lose momentum. Personally, I wonder about Doctor Strange with Cumberbatch. Just not sure about that one.

And what happens if things start to slow? Do they make course corrections or stick with the plan out to 2028? I guess what I was getting at earlier is that Marvel's plan makes them a lot less nimble than WB.

Anyway (and getting back on topic), having Spidey *sorta* back in the fold probably helps them as they move into the transitional phase. Iron Man, Cap and Thor weren't even considered indispensable characters until Marvel Studios made them so.

That's why X-Men, FF and Spidey were sold during their bankrupt y days. They were supposed to be the big bankable characters.

Strange was an arrogant guy before his accident, but I don't think he was ever portrayed as the nerdy, bookish type. The guy was always drawn to look like Rhett Butler. Personally, I always saw the character as the coolest guy in the room due to the crazy cool pad, smokin' hot assistant, and you know, the Sorcerer Supreme thing. A man's man who was on top of the world and then brought low, only to come out the other side cooler than ever. Personally, I would have thought about more of a George Clooney type. Maybe not Clooney, but along those lines. Cumberbatch can do arrogant, I guess.

CLEARLY, I have no idea what the script calls for. Nerdy sociopath might be perfect for it. But then I probably won't like their characterization. *shrug*

It's great that he wants to try his hand at being a traditional leading man, but the question is whether he has true leading man looks and charisma. Those who have that have it from the beginning and all the time. You don't really act your way into that...unless it's that accidental, ironic nerdy heartthrob thing. He has that, but that's different.

FWIW, I thought he was chewing the scenery and not completely believable as Khan in ST. Again, you need a guy with animal magnetism in that role. Although it should be said that his predecessor chewed the scenery like few actors ever have. Good god...Shatner and Montalban in the same film...we may never see the likes of that again.

At the Phase 3 conference Kevin Feige talked about Strange's origins - brilliant surgeon, car accident, travels to the world to find a fix for his hands, meets The Ancient One, then MAGIC - so that will be part of the character. Question is how much of that will make it to screen. From the sounds of it, something more like 'Guardians of the Galaxy' would fit (Or even Iron Man 3, actually...). It sounds like getting a sense of Strange's character before magic is very important to understanding him after magic.

So, perhaps a cold opening showing a fundraising party for his hospital (Maybe an award presentation for being top surgeon?) or something (remember, I know nothing about Strange). Night goes on leaves (I'm guessing drunk?), gets in his car, sudden carcrash, screen goes black. Scene opens, consultant gives him the bad news.
