Wow, this will be insanely cool if you can do it. You should paint them all in tiny squares of colour, not blended together, to simulate bad graphics.

I've wanted to do something like this myself but will never get around to it, its good to see that someone is

sorry for the sorda bad pics, my light box is all broked up right now...

Oh forgot to mention, the proportions for the original brain were to small, so I sculpted a new one, after some paint, gonna try and bust out all of the sculpts including first the steam demon, then 3 mini spiders, then fatboys, then pumpkins, annnnnd I think thats it for the major sculps....OH flying rippers maybe, though I may just convert them...

DOOMnids(updated 06/23/2012) @ 2009/06/01 16:20:14

Post by: Fallenbourne

For the flying rippers you need to either convert them into the lost souls (the flaming, flying skulls) or those god forsaken scary as hell flying demon babies.

By the emperor's grace that's AWESOME!

I played the first DooM when it was released in 94... I was 6 years old.

I still LOVE the DooM series so this made me kinda need to change pants... almost

Great job on the Mastermind so far, he is a tad small though

Automatically Appended Next Post:
BTW... you MUST have the Cacodeamons as well as the Mancubus (I'd say that they should be the fexes)!

DOOMnids(updated 06/23/2012) @ 2009/06/01 20:28:48

Post by: gameandwatch

@Muller: Yes, I also have a love that runs deep for DOOM, and if you are fan enough and havent done so yet, read the first 2 DOOM novels if you can get your hands on them, they are a little hard to find. Just stop at the second even though there are 2 more, it gets very sidetracked from what DOOM is about.

I think its funny you say that about the Spidermind, I thought he was too big! I mean he is twice the size of space taken up by a Hive Tyrant! ANd yes the Cacodemons, aka pumpkins are strangler/talon fexes, were as mancubus aka fatboys are dakkafexes...

DOOMnids(updated 06/23/2012) @ 2009/06/01 23:02:26

Post by: Müller

oh yeah, didnt read the monester names sine you took their nicknames

I was just looking for cacodemon and mancubus and didnt see them

Oh yes I've read them, my love with DooM goes very deep...

Have you faced Keen in DooM II ?

he needs to be in the army as well... as a commander or something ;P

BTW, where's my cyberdeamon? (I vote for him as one of the gigantic nids from FW)

DOOMnids(updated 06/23/2012) @ 2009/06/02 05:24:57

Post by: gameandwatch

HAHAHAH, yes I took all the nicknames, so once again, Cyberdemon=steamdemon, Im thinking uberfex. If you honestly go back and look at what he is like, he is only roughly 25 feet tall, about the same size as the spidermind in height, so gargantuan creatures are out of the question, although since originally I was going to base this on the chaos demons army, a soulgrinder conversion was going to be the steam demon, but this just fit so much better.

Im going competitive, but in no way scrificing fluff, so the uberfex aka cyberdemon will have all the boosted d upgrades, chitin, ext car, bonded exo, plus crushing claws/strangler(missle launcher, though im considering making it a venom cannon instead, though I think it makes more sense for it to be missle with the kaboom and all), and so he will be an absolute death machine, as he should be.

Note: got sidetracked on the steamdemon sculpt, decided to get the ripper/lost souls done and decided to convert ripperheads into them so GW doesnt complain and lets be honest, the original lost souls look in no way human so I think they look great actually. anyways, pics on them tomorow and maybe a completed steamdemon.

Ive decided to stick with the ripper heads, Ive shortened the overall maw of the heads, to make them more like demonic/human, adding horns and fire to the back now. Also started construction on ol Cybie.

@Muller: Nemesis indeed.... 'O-o; haha, Steamdemon was what they called them in the books, with their whole rediculous naming procecees.

I love the concept and execution so far is top notch.
Have you tried using greenstuff for finer details? It seems your sculpting has reached a stage where it needs more fine details to progress.

DOOMnids(updated 06/23/2012) @ 2009/06/06 00:25:58

Post by: gameandwatch

@corpsearefun: Well, my biggest problem with green stuff, as I love to work with it, is that it is too expensive like all GW products. I use cellulose clay, which can get an immense amount of detail, the only problem is being white, it is hard to photograph it properly to pick up that detail. THanks for the compliment though!

Haha dang! ! remember those, I hated fighting them, absolute pain they were.

This modelling is superb all they need now is some paint and were done !

Question though, what will the gaunts be modelled from? Those spikey deamons ?

Wolf

DOOMnids(updated 06/23/2012) @ 2009/06/06 16:27:22

Post by: gameandwatch

Regular spine fodder gaunts will be catachans made into doom zombies, not like reg zombies, basically people bleeding from eyes, nose and stuff, with weathering and minor damage to body and armor. Termagants WoN will be Spineys, aka imps, modeled from heavily converted new plastic bloodletters. They are in the mail, so soon enough I will have them.

Otherwise, I am still painting the Spidermind, he is a big model, so there is much to paint, pics probably in the next 2 weeks sometime, as I am going on a business trip for a week.

How did I not see this before, this is beautiful work Gameandwatch. Is that paper clay that your working with? Wow...I tried the stuff working on larger sculpts. It never crossed my mind to try it on miniatures. I could never get the stuff I tried smooth easily; it had this peach fuzz texture that you really had to burnish to get smooth.

Side note a light coat of gray primer would make the models easier to see, and photograph. You've got me thinking though, paper clays really lightweight so it would be ideal for flowing hair and cloth.

Best of luck man, these models are hot.

DOOMnids(updated 06/23/2012) @ 2009/08/07 22:39:50

Post by: gameandwatch

AHHAHA, thanks sersi, you've got amazing stuff so I take your input in high regards. Yes, paper clay works very well for small models when its not too wet, when its too wet you get that fuzz, paper towelling works pretty good.

The other nice thing about paper clay is that it generally likes to bond to itself, and if not, a little super glue does wonders!

Onto painting the cyberdemon!!

Mini spiders, and imps...AWAY!!!

Almost done with the imp conversions, al that is left on them is to sculpt the flaming snotballs.

The arachnotrons are coming well, just decerning(sp?) how I am going to construct the legs...

ALRIGHT, so i have been laxing for a a long time, as my Tau project got the better of me, bu now that the majority of that is done, I can get bakc to working on this in my free time, but I need some help... I am looking for a base model to use or convert to act as hell princes and barons of hell, you know, the 15 foot tall goatmen that take way too much to die? hahaha, beastmen come to mind but are they large enough? I might be able to use their heads, but I am thinking their overall mass is in no way nearly as big...

Lol this is epic.

You should think about running them as daemons, too.

Post by: gameandwatch

Oh, I have, but fluff wise some of the units are difficult to match, but I definitely could. I have this big list, of everything doom, and on either side, equivilants to deamons and Nids that can be matched. Nids just fit the bill overall more so than Deamons, and fluff wise, as the DOOM legions are a biomass invading army, bred in factories in assembly lines, it just sounds so...niddy to me

This is utterly cool. The Beastmen models would be far to small for the 15ft tall goatmen possibly the minotaurs would make a better base. I'm also hoping to see keycard objective markers and lots of barrels, lava, ammo containers and med-packs on the bases!

Once again, I say, need some goatmen ideas, otherwise Im just gonna purchase the beastmen box, and convert larger bodies..., or I guess I could just scratch build em...

DOOMnids(updated 06/23/2012) @ 2009/11/16 18:28:06

Post by: Karoline Dianne

I'd start with minotaurs or the like. Standard beastmen are too small.

also, for imps I suggest you use bloodletters with shaved off horns, similar to the iron pact Daemons.

Post by: gameandwatch

Yeah I did use bloodletters for the imps, I will post pics tonight of them and the zombies. I saw the minotaurs, they just dont look right to me, I am thinking I might get the beastmen to check the head size, or simply do scratchbuilds since I will probably only need 8 of them.

Ok so Ive been REALLY lax for a while now, I know I know... BUT graduating college took priority over everything. But even with that going on, I managed to finish modelling the arachnotrons, painted them, and finished the imps and painted them. I also repainted the cyberdemon to a much higher quality. Enjoy!
Better pics to follow tomorow in natural lighting!

I think the imps turned out great.

DOOMnids(updated 06/23/2012) @ 2009/12/07 23:30:18

Post by: gameandwatch

So, as said before, posting some new stuff pics, unfortunately the weather has been largely uncooperative for light, and my lightbox needs fixin, so I am making due with what I have. Ill start with the imps, finsihed conversion wise, but are going to be repainted for definition, what you see is basically a first coat, just so they can be seen for how they should look!

Back filled in where spiny bitz were...

next the new arachnotrons(aka mini spiders) I am thankful they are complete, scratchbuilding their legs without square tubing is a pain in the butt... Once again, they need to be refined, only the first coat applied...

and lastly the repaint of the cyber/steam demon. The light is really killing me with him, but to tell what cannot be seen, he has been givin pink tenderness where the flesh meats the metal, his right arm has been further cyberized, and overall his flesh holds better transitions and is smoother.

and a group shot...

Enjoy!!

@Empchild- SO next on my list if to finish the first set of zombies(fodder spinegaunts), then touch up the imps and the aracnotrons. From that point, I might delay making any more until the nid codex comes out, though because its poking me in the face, I will probably construct one fatboy(mancubus), one pumpkin(cacodemon) and a test baron of hell, probably a baron first because with warriors becoming troops i KNOW I am going to have an elite(as in heavier upgrade wise) small squad of warriors to be barons, and a larger, or couple larger squads to be hell knights. I might have a friend who cast my crisis suit parts cast the head or heads I make for them.

Cyberdemon= greater demon or DP

IMPs=demons

Just think that CMS wouled reflect the DooM enemies' character more... at least more than nids would

You see, this brings up the same issue I had with the army counting as chaos demons. The survivabilty of vehicles simply doesn't reflect the high HP nature of enemies like the spidermind and cyberdemon. As well, considering according to the fluff of DOOM, the legions of hell, save the spiderminds, are all made on factory lines. Their technology is all based on organics as well, so for this reason, I prefered to use the nid codex. Think, a spidermind has a minigun and uses horrific images against enemies, dakka tyrant blasts things to pieces, and has a naturally ability called 'The horror', it just fits so well, and as the spidermind is the HQ of the legions of hell, it works that a tyrant is commander as well.

The cyberdemon in my eyes just screams carnifex. Not to mention, he can have his rocket launcher in the form of the S8 large blast barbed strangler, and can have upgrades similar to an uberfex that make him horrendously difficult to kill.

Imps are fodder factory assembled monsters that through burning loogies, hence WoN termagants with fleshborers...fleshborers=burning snotballs

Nids have zoanthropes, literal brains that fire blasts of concentrated warp plasma...Arachnotrons anyone?

CSM simply do not have the units to support the rest of the minions of hell as well, like pumpkins, fatboys and swarms of lost souls. Nids just fits so congruently with all of DOOM. I can only hope things don't drastically change with the new codex, which is why after the marines I may only make some objective markers, awaiting the new dex.

ZOMBIES!!! Ok, so I came up with some back story for this whole dooomy type situation, sorda ties in why I left the Cadian zombies more like Cadians.

The ADmech engineers of Mars were hard at work when a faint hiss in the telepathic dragnet around the planet was heard, and felt. Then, the head Techpriest on Mars recieved a rather strange message from one of Mars' sister moons, Phobos. With all the interference around the planet, only part of the transmission came through: ...The vault...gate...activating!...coming through...what is...not necrons...my emporer!... -end transmission: Understanding the immediacy of the situation, the priest immediately contacted the colonel of the 122nd Cadian regiment that was guarding the moon, but no transmission was responded to. Then, after 6 failed attempts to contact the regiment and 26 hours later, a transmission broke through the seeming psychic blockade that had engulfed the planet: -what is happening over colonel?- -sir! one of the inactive gates that has been on Mars since before man, and what we believed to be a remnant of the necrrroo...started to come to life! What looked like chaos scum came through, but we have never seen anything like this before! Identical legions of monstrosities poured through the gate, our initial garrisons were overrun. We locked off the Vault entryway, but it only delayed them for about fourteen hours. What we saw next we couldn't believe, our dead comrades had risen against us! Oh my empor...(sir their breaking through!)...what! Prepare yourselves men! *Crash* *Crash* *Crash* Roarrrr! Ahhhhh... -end transmission

So ZOMBIES!!

Will you be making the oldschool DOOM Marine to go with this? If so, I'd suggest a Cadian Torso, Catachan arms & Legs, A scratchbuilt DB Shotgun or a Chainsaw, and one of the Pig Iron System Trooper heads.

Ok, so since the codex release I have developed almost 100% where my codex adaption for this army is going to go. Unfortunately, the only real issue has been the placement of the Spidermind, as I don't see him as a Hive Tyrant anymore, mainly because of a fluff thingy which I will explain.

So the list is as follows:
HQ:
Tyranid Primes = Barons of hell

Elites:
Pyrovores = Archviles(flamers)
Hive Gaurd = Revenants (Bonys)
Zoanthropes are still Arachnotrons

Troops:
Warriors = Hell knights (I think this fits perfectly, as these are far weaker versions than their big brothers, Barons of Hell, which work as Tyranid Primes)

Genestealers = Pinkies (demons, as the only strictly melee group in the bunch, and in heavy abundance as well as one of doom's fastest units, this is a pretty tight fit)
Termagants = Zombies and Imps, with different weapon loadouts, spike rifles and fleshborers, though I havent figured out which is which)

Fast Attack: As previously, almost all of the larger units were satisfied by elite and heavy fexes, this was a bit of a standoff, until I really looked at the Harpy, and was like, omg, a flying tough creature, with a big ranged gun...PUMPKINS!! and they can actually fly now! So it fit like a glove)
Harpies = Pumpkins( Cacodemons)

Flying rippers still = lost souls

Heavy:
Carnifexes = Mancubus (fatboys, pretty much the only units carnifexes are going to stand as, which is fine with me)

Tyrannofex with Rupture cannon = Cyberdemon (Now I would love this thing to have a base strength of 9, not 9, or have reg carnifexes with access to something more like the rupture cannon, or lone fexes being tougher or something)

Spidermind, yet to be determind, possible fleshborer hive tyrrannofex, maybe not, anyways, mingle opinions.

spidermind can be the trygon prime. Has 12 shots for some chaingun action, and has synapse for the leadership ability. Failing that, a dakka tyrant as you mentioned.

I also like a tyrant with heavy venom cannon and 2+ armor save for a cyber daemon. The venom cannon is pretty crappy in my opinion, but it best fits the idea of an exploding rocket I think.

For zombies I like devourer gaunts for chaingunners, and spinefists for shotguns, since an IG shottie is 2 s3 shots a twinned s3 shot is probably close enough.

Imps are hard to fit in I think, as they are tougher than zombies and have a shooting attack.

You know, if you are planning on using the Arachnatrons as Zoanthropes, you could always use the Spidermind as a Doom of Malan'tai.

Oh noes, I am actually concerned with what is going to be what now...

A mancubus is tougher than a hell knight, but not a baron of hell, alpha warriors are not as tough as carnifexes, but it would be really confusing to have barons not be alpha warriors.

I guess I just convinced myself, Barons shall be Alpha warriors, mancubus will be dakkafexes

This is how it is so far:
Barons of Hell: Alpha Warriors( trying to see if I can have 2 in all the time to be fluffy to the game, or I might just leave that to campaign games as the 'expiditionary force')

Hell Knights: Warriors with deathspitters, possibly rending claws(fluffy)

Imps: Fleshborer Gaunts for now

Zombies: Spike Rifle Gaunts

Shotgun Zombies(If I get to them): Dev gaunts

Bonys/Revenants: Hive Gaurd, as the blind fire weapon fluffs to homing missiles, and they are tough like bonys

Arachnotrons: Zoanthropes, this one still makes the most sense to me, both large brains, both fire plasma, both have tough shielding but arent rediculous, both would control underlings

Archviles: Flamers, as I really like archviles, I will probably have to test to see how to use them in game, considering they will most likely be always making the list

Pinkies/demons: Genestealers, as one of the fastest and purely close combat, yet weak units in the game, this just makes sense.

Lost Souls: Flying Rippers, this one still makes sense to me

Pumpkins/Cacodemons: Now, these guys I think fit beautifully into the Harpy, as they get a powerful ranged attack(ball lightning), they actually fly like Pumpkins, and they are tough being monstrous creatures. Pumpkins are staying with this.

Mancubus/ Fatboys: These guys are fitting into the role the were going to be in the last codex, as Devourer Fexes.

Cyberdemon/Steamdemon: This guy is undoubtably going to be a rupture cannon tyrannofex. There simply isnt any other place for this guy to fit in. Tfexes are the toughest unit in the codex, and have a ranged weapon that perfectly fits the Cyberdemon. And though Tfexes arent as strong as carnifexes, all they do is fire rockets, they dont even think about close combat, so it works.

Spidermind: This one is caught, He is either going to be a dual devourer Tyrant with armored shell, or a Trygon prime. Now here is where it gets difficult:

I like him as an HQ, as it is fluffy and the Tyrant has the strongest multishot twin linked weapon, so it fits the character, the downside is, the Spidermind is the toughest character in the game, and even with armored shell, a tyrant still can be felled fairly easily without gaurd(which the spidermind would not have, his gaurd is everything around him.

As well I like the idea of having to tyranid primes, as they fit so well into the first doom game, of the two barons being the supposed final bosses. A hive tyrant would compete for space, so I dont like this idea.

I do however have a Heavy slot open, and a Trygon prime does have leadership roles that could fill the space of the spidermind. As well, he does basically have a 12 shot heavy bolter, though not being twin linked kinda sucks. as well, trygons have 6 wounds, and are therefore harder to expunge.

The last option would be a second Tfex, with a fleshborer hive. toughest unit in the game, and a 20 shot bolter, sounds pretty good but idk.

DOOMnids(updated 06/23/2012) @ 2010/02/11 05:54:12

Post by: FoxPhoenix135

Well, you can make units compete for HQ slots and stuff, and just make lists like you would for any codex army (i.e. pick and choose which you want more), but have them all able to be used in an apocalypse game!

I would also like to fit in the baron, who would join the hell knight warriors, as well as the arachnotrons. need some help though...

Baron of Hell: Tyranid Prime, rending claws, deaths pitter

Elites:
Revenants: Hive Guard x3

Arachnotrons: Zoanthrope x3

Archviles: Pyrovores x3

Troops:
Hell Knights: Warriors x5, rending claws, deathspitter

Pinkies: Genestealers x8

Pinkies: Hormagaunts x18

Zombies: Termagants x20, spike rifle

Imps: Termagants x20

Fast Attack:
Cacodemon: Harpy, cluster spines

Lost Souls: Flying rippers x5, adrenal glands

Heavy:
Mancubus‘: Carnifexes, x2 devourers

Cyberdemon: Tyrannofex, Rupture Cannon, Desiccator larvae

Spidermind: Alpha Trygon

Spidermind: Tyrannofex, flesh borer hive

DOOMnids(updated 06/23/2012) @ 2010/02/18 05:33:33

Post by: FoxPhoenix135

Ok I can offer my opinion then:

Pinkies were supposed to be very tough in CC, and that is the only place they excelled at. I'd put them down as genestealers.

Zombies as gaunts with spike rifles = perfect. 1 shot wonders sounds perfect for them.

Archviles as pyrovores doesn't really fit, but I guess there isn't really a place that they do. Maybe tervigons? Since they resurrect dudes, that could translate to spawning them, huh?

Mancubuses seem to me like they should count as something with more range. I don't know quite what, as they aren't quite as tough enough for a tyrranofex, but I certainly remember being pelted by them from across the map when playing Doom.

Cyberdeamon as a tyrranofex w/ rupture cannon = gold. Couldn't pick a better unit to count it as.

Imps: maybe use spinefists for them? It would make them more accurate, which would seem more in line with imps.

Fast attack options are right on.

That's all I got right now. Keep it up! This should be a great finished list any way you look at it.

Spidermind: Should definitely be a hive tyrant with the Hive commander rule. It should have 2xdevourers like you listed, and the armored shell. Looks great.

Arachnotrons as zoanthropes: fine and dandy. No real better representation for them.

Revenants as hive guard, also fine. The homing missiles are a great representation of their LOS-defeating shots.

Post by: gameandwatch

Imps spinefist, or fleshborers, I tend to lean towards fleshborers, because they are cheaper and stronger, more repping the flame ball damage so I think I might stay with borers... Plus, they arent THAT accurate, you side step that crap all the time.

Mancubus as devourerfexes just fit for me, granted, it sux fexes are WAY expensive now, but even though they pelt you from afar, so does everything if you let it, and they are supposed to be using flame burst cannons which would imply short range.

Archviles as tervigons is an interesting idea, makes their toughness more towards an Archvile, as well as the whole respawn enemies thing, but it sucks to not have a flame attack... hmmm

Though cluster spines is like the flame explosion...i like that idea!

And as I sent to him, Im not breaking copyright as I am not publishing, selling reproducing or competing with any set models, concepts, or company owned products. I am not, in any way, attempting to profit from ID software's game DOOM or affiliates.

With that aside, Thanks so much for the compliments guys, its getting there when I have the time. And Pete, I dont know if the list will be uber, but it will atleast be fun! For both me and my opponent I think! Also, I want to hear second opinions, but I love the idea of the archvile as a tervigon, one, because those skinny little flaming bastards are somehow as tough as a mancubus, so the stats fit, he has a large blast attack (flame explosion), and he can spawn termagants just like his ability to ressurrect monsters in the game... Objections?

I like the thought process behind arch viles being tervigons. I am split between either that, or being zoanthropes (synapse, powerful attack, invul save).

Yeah, but zoanthropes are so thouroughly filled by arachnotrons, giant floating brain, giant brain on mech legs, warp plasma, plasma gun, I think the arachnotrons will stay as zoans...

So, been a while since my last post, really busy on the job hunting front. BUT! I managed to sculpt the archvile, I am thoroughly pleased with how he turned out, so pleased in fact that I think I will sculpt another, obviously having nothing to do with list ideas

better pics tomorrow!

That's DOOM III though.

I and II are where it's at. Nothing will ever trump the sheer hours of stupid fun you can have with them.

Actually, IF YOU READ THE PREVIOUS POSTS METALLIFAN... Barons are going to be tyranid primes, and knights are going to be warriors.

I think I have decided anyway, if it comes to me needing some tyrant guard, then I am going to mkae Specters tyrant guard... yeah I know they are just invisible pinkies, but I think they are the closest thing to stand in, and their invisibleness can make up for the high toughness.

Yea, first time back on this blog for a while. It died off and I stopped following it

Anyway, Spectres give you a chance to cast in clear resin, which is awesome badass stuff. Though a Spectre might make a better Lictor from a sensical standpoint

Thats not a bad Idea, maybe I can make a mold that my friend can cast three of them, and so I could run them as either...

The Arch Vile is great, Gameandwatch! You're doing quite well at sculpting them from scratch.

So man, havent been at this in forever, but I just acquired some time and decided to work on this and my ork project simultaneously. I also decided that my initial attempt was at best a good first try, but with my personal discovery of greenstuff and its majesties and a gut full of desire to do it right, I decided it was time to properly proportion and scratch scultp all of the models once again, so that they are entirely appropriate for gamin and per the actual monsters.

So without further adu, here is the start of the reimagined Doomnids!
New Cyberdemon

New Spidermind

New Archvile (appropriately sized to be a tervigon fill-in)

And lastly, my new Icon of SIn to represent the DOOM of Malantai

Finished doom with Spod soon, as well as finished tervi-archvile (though I am generally concerned seeing the size of the new tervigon model... I don't think my Archviles are big enough...)
