Those gnomes look solid . Good start on the KD stuff as well.

Thanks guys! The Gnomes were surprisingly fun to paint, I've got the other set too to work on... One day.

All change!
Was struggling to make any progress on my trio of ladies, so I put them aside at the weekend (I'll try again with them another time) and started some other stuff.

I'm finishing off my Rotten Mummy (Twisted):-

He's going well so far, I've still got to paint all his beetles though.

And started my Ringtail Vixen (Kingdom Death):-

I'm happy with her tails, but I wish her eyes had turned out better (I just couldn't find her left one).

Right? If the sculptor is going to cover the eye, they can at least have the decency to cover it completely, not this halfway nonsense that leaves us trying to sneak a partial pupil in.

I had not noticed the bestial traits on the Vixen before. Looks good.

I can't entirely blame the sculptor on this one, I'm really starting to struggle with more "true-scale" faces, I don't think my hands and eyes are completely up to the job anymore

Yeah, I thought she was just wearing a costume until I got some paint on.

Still not painting as much as I'd like, but I did manage to finish my Rotten Mummy (Twisted):-

Kind of hard to get a picture that shows off all his little details, but I'm really pleased with him.

Ringtail Vixen still has a little way to go:-

I've been stuck on what colour to paint her pointy stick, but I think I'm getting there.

Also prepped the next pair, the Crusader (GW):-

And Theron (Guildball):-

Painting towards a brighter tomorrow! (Update 19th Apr:- Neverending Rage.) @ 2019/12/05 18:29:23

Post by: aku-chan

The painting continues to go slowly (too slowly), but I have managed to finish the Ringtail Vixen (Kingdom Death):-

Still not happy with her face, but overall she doesn't look too bad.

Theron:-

And the Crusader:-

Have a ways to go, but I should hopefully have them done by the end of the year.

Getting a little bit more painting done lately, but still haven't finished anything.

Crusader is most of the way there, Theron is finished from the waist up (he's covered in so many doodads).

Thanks! The sword will probably end up being a boring old steel one, previous attempts at doing anything fancy with weapons have been none too successful.

Managed to get some stuff wrapped up just in time.

Theron (Guild Ball) is done:-

Had fun painting up all his stitches, it's oddly relaxing.

The Crusader (Games Workshop) is also done:-

Really like the job I've done on this guy, gotta stop making life difficult for myself by fully assembling these minis with hard to reach places though.

And, finally finished Swamp Witch Sophie (Reaper):-

Glad to get this one done at last, a pity she's got such googly eyes.

And as that's probably it for this year, decided to do an end-of-year tally:-

Painted a lot more minis than I thought, and beat last years total by 4 whole minis (41 altogether).
If I stopped being such a hobby butterfly I could probably get even more done, so next year I'm going to aim for finishing 52 minis. Painting 1 mini a week shouldn't be that hard should it?

Ringtail turned out great

The red on the crusader is luscious.

Jason Mamoana/Theron is really well done.

would not have noticed googly eyes on swamp witch Sophie if you hadn’t pointed them out . She doesn’t look very witchy, looks more swamp faerie with pet too me, but then again my witches need to be old ladies with bad complexions.

Officially, she's actually Mermaid Sophie which I think makes even less sense.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to keep doing an end of year count-up. Even with my plog I forget about half of what I paint, so it's a nice motivational boost to see I'm actually making a bit of progress against the endless hordes!

Been making a start on some new stuff.
The first project of the new year is Katakros (Games Workshop):-

Working on his fancy base at the moment.

The other thing I want to do is make a dent in my big pile of Reaper minis I keep buying and not painting.
The first one is a Dark Elf Priestess:-

Unfortunately she was missing a pointy ear, so she's now a vampire.

Painting towards a brighter tomorrow! (Update 19th Apr:- Neverending Rage.) @ 2019/12/29 21:56:43

Post by: Wirecat

I won't repeat what others have said, but I'll add a thing - that bow in Theron hand is magnificent. Got a chance to pull once a composite ash-and-oak bow that had exactly the same color (even if my memory is faulty that is what I've remembered after looking at the picture). And the hint at the wood texture is great. And Sophie from under Your brush looks more Polynesian than swampy, save for the skin tone. Great!

Painting towards a brighter tomorrow! (Update 19th Apr:- Neverending Rage.) @ 2020/01/05 20:46:17

Post by: aku-chan

Thanks! I'm pleased the bow looks realistic, I was just happy I did a decent job edge highlighting it!

Finished my first mini of the year, Ashlynn the Vampire (originally a Dark Elf Priestess from Reaper):-

Rather pleased with her face and hair, the rest not so much, but at least I painted it fast (for me).

I've also finished Katakros fancy base:-

I had fun doing the tile-work.

And I've started the first member of his team:-

I've also started my next Reaper mini:-

A tall river pirate lady.

I continue to make progress!

Finished Parchment Guy:-

Yes, I did glue his scroll on upside-down
He was originally more bony, but the bone armour just didn't look right when I tried it, so I've fallen back on my usual metallics.

I've also made a start on Bird Guy:-

I've got his bird cage finished so far.

I'm also making slow progress on my pirate lady:-

gotta figure out what colour all her doodads are going to be.

Thanks! Those are her original cheekbones, it's a large part of why I went down the vampire route with her.

Finished another mini woohoo!
It's my tall lady river pirate (Reaper), I'm calling her Mary Jo:-

Really happy with how this one turned out, even though my experiment with freckles didn't work.

Making good progress with my bone guys, Bird Guy is almost done:-

Just his ink bottle to go (I've been putting it off), and made a start on Knight Guy:-

I wanted to see if purple worked as an armour colour.

And I've picked my next Reaper mini:-

Remus Raducan, hooray for not having to think up a name this time!

Bone guys are coming along nicely . Who cares if the scroll is upside down or not, it’s an ancient dead language, who knows what it means, probably sweet and sour chicken .

Pirate lady came out awesome. Looking forward to your next bones...reaper or otherwise guys.

Now I've got this weird image where the whole scene is actually just them ordering lunch.

Thanks!

Not a lot of painting done this week.

Received a big pile of stuff from Antimatter Games, and it inspired me to give my collection a good sort out and try and catalogue it a bit.
Even after getting rid of a few things (I'm never going to paint all those dudes I put together from the old Kingdom Death armour kits), I'm left with over 600 minis.

Considering I've still got a load of Kingdom Death stuff to arrive (eventually), and I went a bit mad on miniature board game Kickstarters last year, I'm going to have to really concentrate on working through the backlog and cutting back on the buying for at least a few years

At least I found some nice minis I forgot I had, and I can now use a random number generator to choose what minis I paint.

Had a bit of a push to get stuff finished over the weekend.

Finished Remus (Reaper):-

Struggled a bit with this one, just didn't find him that interesting to paint.

Also finished the latest skelly bro, Knight Guy:-

That base is filling up slowly.

Now I've started the next one in the queue, Banner Guy:-

He's got a long way to go.

And my next Reaper mini, Amiri:-

She's an iconic barbarian apparently.

Sir Guy, the Knight is awesome. Your Katakros will have quite a nice looking entourage. Amiri is off to your usual great skin start.

I also use a random number generator to decide on what mini to paint! It ensures that the more boring troops get painted and don’t get forgotten for the super-fun characters!

Thanks! I still say my pot of Flesh Wash should take most of the credit when it comes to painting skin.

Glad to know the idea works! I just need something that gets me digging into my backlog a bit more, my head is far to easily turned by newer, shinier minis.

Made a bit of progress on everything this week:-

Banner Guy is mostly done:-

Just gotta try to think of how to do the banner without making the whole thing too colourful.

Amiri is getting there:-

I'm actually really pleased with how she's turning out so far.

And I've started my first 100% computer chosen mini, Rage (Guild Ball):-

Early days on this one.

Those eyes, that hair... Amiri is rocking. For some reason the stitching on Banner's scabbard stands out as very well painted. Always great attention to detail.

Thanks!
That kind of chunky stitching has been showing up on quite a few of my minis lately, so I've been getting plenty of practice.

Got Banner Guy all finished:-

The base is getting fuller, just the boss skelly dude left to do.

Making decent progress on Amiri:-

Just a handful of little details left and her bag of javelins that I keep forgetting about.

And Rage is getting there too:-

Again, just a few details to go.
Hopefully I should get these two finished this week.

Rage looks like a cross between Bill Cutting and Lucky the Leprechaun. Those kids are going to regret messing with his Lucky Charms. Is Amiri the BONES version?

No, Amiri is in metal. Wasn't a fan of Reapers Bone material until they brought out the Bones Black stuff.

Speaking of Amiri, she's all done:-

Definitely one of my better paint jobs.

I also finished Rage:-

He was also a lot of fun to paint.

Didn't get much done to my Bony Guy though:-

That cape took far too long to paint.

And I've had my next two minis chosen for me, it's double Reaper this time:-

Evshyvandra Duskwidow, a scary Elf chick.

Damaris Walmund, vampire hunter.

I'm going to have to start making up the names for my Reaper minis, they're becoming too much word-soup.

Painting towards a brighter tomorrow! (Update 19th Apr:- Neverending Rage.) @ 2020/03/06 14:16:54

I discovered the one fatal flaw in my randomised mini plan, if I'm not too interested in the mini it's pretty much impossible to get me to work on it (It didn't help that I was also getting rather burnt out on working on my Bony Dudes).

So I took a few days off, cleared my desk, revised my plan and started again.
And now I've finished Hazel Bodkin (Wolsung):-

She's a little messy in places, I thought I could easily paint her with her slingshot attached, I was wrong.

I've also mostly finished Screamin' Eddie (Games Workshop):-

I'd forgotten how good the big mutants in the Rouge Trader set were.

Thanks guys! I saw Eddie as more of a generic mutant, the kind you might find wandering a radioactive wasteland.

Speaking of Eddie, he's finished already:-

Really pleased with how he turned out.

Next up, I have another Halfling:-

This is "Pop" Bodkin, Hazels father, and he's coming along nicely so far.

And another mutant:-

The horrifying Engineer, I've just basecoated his skin so there's still lots to do.

Thanks! It helped that all his detail was super-chunky so I could do some proper lining for a change.

Another mini finished, 'Pop' Bodkin (Wolsung):-

Had a lot of fun with this one, he turned out to be a pretty characterful mini.

The Engineer is coming along slowly:-

He's proving to be quite fiddly so I'm finishing off his skin details section by section, so far I've done his heads, shoulders, chest and back.

Couldn't decide what I wanted to start next, so I cranked up the random number generator, but instead of just doing whatever one it picked (That didn't work out too well last time) I got it to pick out a selection I could chose from, so I'm starting my first Deep Wars mini:-

He's a deep sea diver of some sort.

Nice work, as always.

I was wondering if you could explain your painting style? I know you put a sepia wash over a white basecoat, but do you then apply many layers of glaze, or do you block out solid colors?

Yeah, I've got quite a few random minis, Kickstarter has been a really bad influence on me.

JoshInJapan wrote:Nice work, as always.

Thanks!
There's not really much to explain, the wash is just there to help me make out the details and, hopefully, fill in all the nooks and crannies, so you don't get those little white specks you sometimes get from undercoating with white primer. Then I paint over it all with solid blocks of colour, plus the usual shading and highlights.

I've seen stuff painted up with just glazes, and it looks really cool but I'm too messy a painter to try something like that.

When I was choosing a new mini to paint, one of the suggestions my computer came up with was to finally finish off my Storm Knight, so here he is:-

Don't usually paint the same mini twice, but he's one of my all time favourites!
I think I prefer this second version (he's more colourful), but I ran into the same problem that I did with the first one, his cloud cape needs a lot more time and effort spent on it than I'm willing to put in. Doesn't look too bad though.

The Engineer and Diver are coming along nicely, but I don't think I've done enough to warrant any new piccys yet.

Unh! Double-up! Unh-unh!

He looks great. The new guy rocks with the more colorful scheme. Very comic book villain. The amorphous look on the cape is awesome. This version is more "storm" to me. The previous one is more "cloud."

More minis finished!
First there's 'Ironbelly' Klegg (Deep Wars):-

I'm really pleased with how he turned out, even if I do still suck at painting crystals.

And The Engineer (Games Workshop):-

Kinda meh on this one, even though his belly fire came out better than expected.

Nothing new to show at the moment.
I did have a couple of guys assembled, but they both needed some gap-filling, and, unfortunately my Green Stuff has gone rock hard since I last used it a couple weeks ago.

Yeah, I was super pleased with how his lenses came out, they may not be particularly well blended, but they're a big step up from how I normally paint such things.

I planned to, but they've got to wait until I get more greenstuff.
Triton the Merman is sitting on the desk right now, with his many gaps.

Nothing finished to show off, I spent a few days working on my 10th Anniversary Kingdom Death Survivors before realising they're just not that fun to paint, so I switched to a pair of Twisted figures yesterday and I'm making much better progress:-

That's Trica Harker and Squirrel the Urchin.

Yeah, kinda regretting picking up that set.
You would think they would make special edition minis, you know, special. But they're so bland compared with the others they've put out recently.

In better news, two more finished minis!
Tricia Harker (Twisted):-

Struggled a bit with her legs, couldn't figure out if they were weird boots or robot legs, but I'm pretty pleased with the rest.

And Squirrel the Urchin (Twisted):-

Still got a load of these little guys to paint.

Next on the desk is these two:-

A Games Workshop Faun and a Kingdom Death Cleric, very early days on both.

Yeah, she should look pretty nifty when finished.

I think the eyes on the Cleric are more noticeably wonky than on the Faun. Could be the angle, but the Faun's eyes look pretty good. Lovely green on the Cleric.

Managed to get my lady Faun all wrapped up this week:-

Had trouble with her woven armour stuff (It came out best on her quiver), but she looks okay.

Almost finished the Cleric:-

Just need to tidy up her boots and paint her gruesome base.

Then I can start on the new guys, the Artful Dodger (Twisted):-

And Triton (Deep Wars):-

Who is very top-heavy.

Great work on the faun
The cleric is coming along very nicely.

Dodger looks like a very cool figure.

Triton looks like a beast. The deepwars stuff is starting to call me. I just put in the $1 on the KS to get the free PDFs to read the rules and get an idea before spending real money/time/effort to proceed. What do you think of the game itself?

The Cleric is standing on more than bones, it's sort of a people puddle.

Got the Cleric (Kingdom Death) finished faster than I thought:-

I was a lot happier with this one before I took my final pictures.
Not sure what it is, but overall my minis just aren't looking that good any more (And I was never painting to a particularly high standard in the first place).

Something to ponder on while painting the new guys.

I don't like Kingdom Deaths stuff when the proportions get too exaggerated, which Cleric suffers from a bit, but she has a lovely wacky costume to make up for it.

Slowly painting stuff still, Mostly I've been working on Tritons tail:-

I've been using some of that fancy colour-shifting paint, looks great in hand but photographs poorly.
I also can't work out how to shade and highlight the stuff, so I don't think I'll use it on such a large area again.

Also working on Dodger:-

Who's looking pretty terrible at the moment, I'm hoping that's just a bad picture.

And I've also added Corsair (Guild Ball) to the table:-

At least he's looking okay-ish.

Finally got something else finished!

Here's Triton (Deep Wars):-

The highlights are a bit rough but overall I think he turned out okay.

Almost managed to finish Dodger and Corsair:-

Should, hopefully, get them finished in the next couple of days.

And then it's on to other things:-

The Shroomancer!

And this will eventually be a submarine.

Finished more stuff, Corsair (Guild Ball):-

Pretty happy with this one, but my Guild Ball stuff always turns out decent for some reason.

And the Artful Dodger (Twisted):-

Still feel meh about this guy, he remained hard to paint and even harder to photograph to the very end.

Work in progress wise, I've made a start to the Shroomancer:-

Early days, but I'm happy I seem to have captured his 'WTF is that!' expression.

Also working on the fancy coral reef base for my submarine:-

I could really use a bigger brush for these bigger minis.

Nice to see DeepWars and some of the more 'niche' stuff get your unique treatment. Although I love to see it on anything really!

Is the plan on the coral base for it to be all sorts of different colours and a vibrant coral reef, or something more subdued? I think it could be a wonderful canvas for your style

Thanks! Like with Tritons base it's going to be mainly green, with the various corals picked out. There's a lot more coral on this one though, so it should be a bit more colourful.

Slow but steady progress this week.

I don't want to jinx myself, but the Shroomancer is coming along very nicely.

Antimatter Games makes the sub, it's part of their Deep Wars line.

Finally got the 'Shroomancer finished, getting all my 7th Continent stuff ready for sale took more time than I thought!

Really pleased with this one, I think it's cartoony style worked well with how I paint.

Got a bit further with my sub cockpit:-

Just gotta repaint the window in the door (it's looking a bit meh), and then the pilot and his chair.
Then I can assemble the sub itself.

Also brought an Ogre (Games Workshop) to the table:-

Just done his skin so far.

He's getting there slowly.

Finished my submarine cockpit:-

And now I've started on one half of the submarine:-

Took a lot of work getting it prepped, it was that terrible resin combination of needing lots of clean-up and incredibly fragile, and I managed to break one of the clear resin parts so no windows for my cockpit
Currently I'm not sure if I should go for a lighter metallic blue or not.

As the submarine used up a lot of hobby time, didn't make much progress on my Ogre:-

But he is getting there.

Still nothing to show off.
Was making steady if incredibly slow progress, when my bottle of black went all gloopy.
Almost a week later and I'm still waiting on the new one I ordered, so I took this time to assemble some new minis I've treated myself to:-

It's the Marvel Crisis Protocol starter set (just got a little bit more terrain to build).
Pretty decent plastic minis, they're not Games Workshop good, but they're at least on par with what Malifaux and Kingdom Death are putting out.

Not looking forward to trying to paint Spider-man though.

Got fed up waiting for my bottle of black (I ordered another one in the end, now I have two!), so I started some other stuff.

Lady Fancy Hair has returned to the table:-

Just got to do her base now.

Hornblower!:-

I did a much better job of painting his face than that picture suggests, at least I think I did.

And Doctor Octopus:-

His head was surprisingly difficult to paint given how large it is.

Once these guys are done, I'll get back to the Sub and Ogre.

...Hopefully.

Yeah, I wanted to get some bright colours on her, break up all that brown.

The recent hot weather has made painting a little difficult, but I did finish Lady Fancy Hair:-

Anyone who has read the Kingdom Death news thread recently will know I'm not the companies biggest fan right now, but I've got to admit they make really nice minis.

And while I'm in a Kingdom Death mood, I started another one:-

The, rather creepy, Skully.

I also made progress on Hornblower:-

Why can't I take a decent picture of his face

And Doc Ock:-

I'm a bit out of my comfort zone with this guy, but it's been fun to paint so far.

Cooler weather means more painting!

Doctor Octopus is finished:-

He's painted a bit basically, and I overdid the washes in places, but I had fun painting him.

Hornblower is getting there:-

Just his legs to go.

Skully still has further to go though:-

Made a start on their armour.

Finished Hornblower:-

I've accepted this guy will never photograph well, looks good in hand though.

Skully is mostly done:-

Just wraps and cloth left.

And Ogre has returned:-

Got most of him done, just small bits to go.

Also prepped Angry Joe for when I finish Skully:-

I love the Gorm armour set.

While she's probably my least favourite of the minis out of the Gigalion expansion, she was fun to paint

More finished stuff!
Angry Joe:-

He was a lot of fun to paint, despite all the fiddly bits!
Now I've got all the Gigalion Survivors painted I just need to get the Gigalion itself done ...One day.

Seahorseman (now known as Sir Shelly the Seahorse Knight):-

Finished another mini, Quaff:-

Thought I'd get the little woofer out the way since he was the simplest in the pile (only took me two days to finish, that's something of a speed record for me).

I also finished half a submarine:-

Taking a break before I start on the second half though, so I'm painting my Gigalion:-

Well, technically I'm painting the Gigalions base at the moment.

I've also made a start to Hooper:-

The castings not great on this one, but it's going well so far.

And I've made a start to Baron Zemo:-

With AMG revealing so much Marvel stuff over the last few days, I thought I'd better make more progress on my starter set.
His details are disappointingly soft in places though.

Tried to get stuff finished but it's just too dang hot at the moment.

Baron Zemo is about 95% done:-

Just need to tidy up his pants.

And Hooper is at about 80%:-

He also needs tidy pants and a few other bits.

But I did manage to finish the Gigalions secret stash of human heads:-

I also finished the Gigalions base:-

I decided dramatic dust clouds were purple.

It's interesting to see Zemo und Hooper next to each other. Both fine paintjobs, but whereas Zemo is a little dull sculptwise, Hooper is far more exciting and with nice little details, like the stitches on the cloak.
And you can't go wrong with purple dust! Leg looks suitably icky with the blood.

Thanks!

JoshInJapan wrote:Nice work on Baron Zemo-- that purple shouldn't work IRL as well as it does in the comics, but you pulled it off. Also, I like that it looks as if he's wearing jeans-- it's casual day at Masters of Evil HQ!

Thanks!

Thanks!
Yeah I'm a big fan of Guild Balls obsession with covering everything in chunky stitching.

Finished the Gigalion:-

As you can probably tell I kinda half-assed it in end, but I think I put enough effort in the face for him to turn out okay.

Then I fancied working on some Steampunk stuff, but none of the Steampunk stuff I already had prepped, so after more building I started painting the Scarecrow:-

Whose awesome face refuses to be photographed.
And Singh:-

Who is big and buff.
And then I got distracted by assembling things again

Hey, right on! Good job getting Gigalion done quick. It looks cool. Singh is really something. Like a cross between Cpt. Nemo from League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Zangief.

Thanks! I wish I could've done a bit more to the Gigalion, but I don't know how to do fur when it's not sculpted on.

Finished more stuff.

Singh (Lost Worlds Exodus) is all done:-

The casting/sculpt wasn't as good as I thought it was (Or maybe I'm just getting fussy in my old age), still really pleased with him though, those are some of the best muscles I've painted.

Also managed to finish a surprise Ghost (Warhammer Underworlds):-

One day I'll actually finish a whole team.

Didn't quite manage to finish Scarecrow:-

His trousers still need highlighting.

Nothing new yet, prepping the second half of my submarine at the moment, it's a bit of a mess.

Now that he is finished, do we call him Sangh? Surprise ghost is also very cool.

Finished Scarecrow (Twisted):-

Finally managed to get a shot of his face!

Next up, finished prepping the other bit of the submarine:-

Made a real mess of the railings and had to patch them together with big lumps of greenstuff, I'll have to try and make it look less awful when I paint it.

There's also Lady Nurgle:-

I've left off her fringe for now to make it easier to paint things, probably should've done the same with her cat thing.

And King Crybaby:-

I like Malifaux minis, but don't get them too often because they don't seem to mesh well with the way I paint. Even my usual final prep step of white primer and brown wash doesn't really work on them.

Painting towards a brighter tomorrow! (Update 19th Apr:- Neverending Rage.) @ 2020/09/05 15:54:24

King Crybaby? That's awesome! Is there a Hatchet-face?

I'm guessing he's a reference I'm not getting, but as far as I can tell the gang has no Hatchet-faces.

Started getting a bit too hot again, so progress is slowing.

Lady Nurgle is the farthest along:-

But there's still a lot to do.

Crybaby is also getting there:-

I'm quite proud of his bandage-wrapped belly, considering I could barely see the danged things!

I'm also trying to paint a bit more, so Tzandi has returned to the table:-

And she's still covered in oodles of tiny details.

Along with Gladiator:-

Who's a much nicer mini than I originally thought.

Cry-Baby is an old Johnny Depp movie. It's a little odd.

Gladiator looks like she is going to be a beaut!

I finished King Crybaby (Malifaux):-

He's come out so-so, but I know I'm not great at Malifaux stuff so I'm not going to worry about it.

Everything else is creeping along:-

Hopefully, I'll have at least one finished by the end of the week.

Is the purple-haired girl standing on a fish? Also, I think this is the first time I realized the KD Gladiator is carrying a lantern halberd. KCB turned out good. I can only imagine how delicate those nails are.

Yes, yes she is (it's actually a mechanical fish).

Woot! More finished stuff!
Lady Nurgle (Warhammer:- Underworlds):-

Super pleased with this one.

And Tzandi (Twisted):-

Also super pleased here too, plus it completes my Monkey set (for now).

Nothing else in the works at the moment. There was, but I made a bit of a mess on one, which triggered a panic attack, so I can't go near them at the mo'. So I've got a clean desk for a change.

New stuff.
I have a Genie (Reaper):-

Not my best work, but she's surprisingly poorly detailed for her size (and I'm still not great at prepping these Bones Black minis) and that's left me somewhat unenthusiastic about painting her.

A Beastman (Games Workshop):-

Continuing the trend of starting a new Underworlds band instead of actually finishing one. At least he's coming along nicely.

And Harriet the Hat (Guild Ball):-

Fortunately, her hat hides the poor job I did on her eyes.

There's a forth guy too, but I'm planning on entering him in a competition (If I can get painting again, Cold Season has already got me), so he must remain shrouded in mystery for now.

The genie is sort of oddly plain for her size. I dig the color combo you have going, though. She looks like Jasmine swiped a little power from Genie.

Just haven't been in much of a painting mood lately, been making steady progress with the competition mini, but it seemed to be sucking up all my mojo.

Finally managed to get a bit more done to Harriet though:-

And since that went well, I dug into my embarrassingly large Guild Ball backlog, and I've now made a start on Hemlocke:-

Think I'll stick with my Guild Ball stuff for a while.

Thanks! The Beastman is back on the table already, I'm determined to at least finish him before the Direchasm set comes out.

Was determined to finish something and I did!

Harriet the Hat (Guild Ball):-

She does not like being photographed from the front.

Veteran Hemlocke (Guild Ball):-

She's a little rough in places (painting around her snake was a nightmare!), but I'm happy.

I also finished my competition mini, which you will see one day.

Another mini finished, the Beastman Champion (Games Workshop):-

Super pleased with him, just need to actually finish one of these Underworld sets at some point.

Also on the table is the Tin Man:-

He's coming along nicely, but I'm not sold on the colour of his head, may go for a more traditional bone look.

Painting towards a brighter tomorrow! (Update 19th Apr:- Neverending Rage.) @ 2020/11/06 15:13:13

Tin Man looks very cool so far. A more natural color for the skull would be good. Adds to the creepiness.

Thanks! I did change the skull to bone, not sure if it's creepier, but I do like it.

Been fighting a bad cold all week so I'm painting even slower (if that's possible), but I'm making progress.

Tin Man is mostly done:-

Just gotta finish his base.

And I've made a small start to the next Oz gang member, Pascal De Lyon:-

Long way still to go.

I also got my first lot of Etherfields stuff, since the minis were a lot nicer than expected, I started on one:-

This is one of the shapeshifters.

More stuff finished, yay!

Tin Man (Twisted):-

I still struggle to photograph metallics well, but I'm happy with how he looks in hand.

And Shapeshifter 1 (Etherfields):-

Super pleased with this one!
Although I'm sad that I've only just now realised that boardgame minis can be good, I've missed out on so much awesome stuff

Pascal is coming along:-

I'm going for an old-timey uniform kind of look.

And I've picked my next Etherfields mini, Chimera:-

She's a bit on the large side.

Tried to get Pascal finished this week, but didn't quite manage it:-

He only needs basing now though.

Made decent progress on Chimera:-

Her skin went a little wrong (my second layer of Dwarf Skin/Rosy Flesh was a lot lighter than the first), but she's looking okay so far.

With Pascal almost finished, I started Skefill (Warhammer: Underworlds) today:-

Since I'm well on my way to owning most of the Underworlds teams, I want to concentrate on them for a bit.

I know how that goes, I also have way too many things in boxes!

Managed to get Pascal AKA The Cowardly Lion (Twisted) finished:-

Definitely one of my more successful attempts at this painting thing. Only got two members of the Oz Gang to go.

Meanwhile, still on the table, Skefill:-

Is getting there, he's also getting harder to photograph.

And the Chimera:-

Is almost done.

I'm being a bit conservative with that particular Overlord, some of the others will probably be a bit more colourful, I'm currently mulling over the idea of doing a couple in "girly" colours to hint that there may be a lady Dwarf inside the suit.

Didn't get a lot of painting done this week, was sidetracked into assembling these ladies:-

As much as I may complain about Kingdom Death in other parts of the forum, I do like their minis!

But, as it's now over, I can show off my competition mini, Quinn the Investigator (Reaper):-

Even though I didn't get anywhere in the competition itself, I thought I did a good job on him so I'm still happy.

Yeah, I'm still pretty reluctant to paint my Kingdom Death stuff. They're no more detailed than the average GW mini but they seem more intricate somehow!

Finished more stuff!

The Chimera (Etherfields):-

Pretty pleased with how this one turned out, even though I never got her skin the way I wanted it.

Skefill (Games Workshop):-

I'm also pretty happy with this one, despite taking the lazy option in painting his gem encrusted base.

On the table now is Mecha Toto:-

And, Little Dot:-

I'm trying to get my Oz gang finished by the end of the year.

I'd been putting of buying the holiday Pin-ups for a while, as I don't have a great track record when it comes to finishing my larger Kingdom Death minis (or any of my larger stuff for that matter!), but I seem to be doing okay for now.

Managed to get Dorothy and Toto (Twisted) wrapped just before the year ended:-

Not as happy with these two as I was with the rest of the set, Toto in particular ended up rather bland, but at least that's another set done!
Weirdly though, I dug out my older Dorothy mini to do a comparison shot and:-

I'd given them the same colour dress, even though I haven't looked at older Dorothy since I painted her at least a couple years ago, and it's a colour I rarely use.

Finishing them gave me a grand total of 47 minis finished in 2020! Not quite the 52 I wanted to do, sinking a lot of hobby time into stuff I didn't finish (Like that danged submarine) didn't help, but I was close.

Finished Minis:-

Reaper
Ashlynn
Mary Jo
Remus
Amiri
Quinn

Guild Ball
Rage
Corsair
Hopper and Quaff
Harriet the Hat
Hemlocke

Wolsung
Hazel
Pop

Games Workshop
Screamin' Eddie
The Engineer
Istar
Shroomancer
Gudea
Tukkuttok
The Rebel
Bride of Filth
Grashrak
Skefill

Kingdom Death
Storm Knight
Cleric
Lady Fancy Hair
Skully
Angry Joe
Gigalion

Deep Wars
Klegg
Triton

Twisted
Tricia
Squirrel
Dodger
Tzandi
Oz Gang

Marvel
Doc Ock
Zemo

Random
Sir Shelly
Singh

Malifaux
King Crybaby

Etherfields
Shapeshifter
Chimera

For 2021, as I've gotten into Warhammer:- Underworlds in a big way, I want to concentrate on getting more painted (maybe even actually finishing a whole team!). I also want to get more Kingdom Death stuff done as I should (hopefully) be getting a load of stuff from the Kickstarter during the year.
It would also be nice if I could get some of my half-finished big stuff wrapped up.

I'm also going to be having a bit of a clear out, getting rid of some of the random stuff I've been acquiring, so you probably won't see me painting any more Malifaux (I've finally accepted as much as I like their minis, I just don't like painting them), Deep Wars (They're nice, but terrible to put together, especially the resin stuff) or Marvel Crisis Core (I'm just way too behind on releases).
It's a shame as there's quite a few minis in there I was really looking forward to painting at one time, but want to stop spreading myself so thin, and concentrate on a handful of ranges and more self-contained stuff (Like my Etherfields set).

Thanks! I tried something different on the larger skin areas and just applied my Flesh Wash sparingly instead of slooshing it all over, seems to worked our well.

Viterbi wrote:Wouldn't worry about the beer color, it's just dark ale (is there such a thing? ). Other than that very vibrant colors on them and very smooth white.

Thanks! There's a lot of layers in that white.

Finally got the Brewmistress (Games Workshop) finished:-

Got a little lazy with the ingredients rack towards the end, just to get it done, but I'm happy with how she turned out.

Poor Lysette had to be put aside (I managed to spill the paint I was using), so she's been replaced by Elodie of the Blade:-

Tried to get her finished last night, but couldn't quite manage it, not much more to go though.

This week is going to be somewhat animal themed:-

Thanks to Business Penguin and the Ratman!

Had a decent week painting-wise.

Finished Elodie (Games Workshop):-

Not hugely happy with her robe, but I'm pleased with the rest.

Also made decent progress with Rat Guy:-

Just got his armour and base to go.

And Business Penguin:-

Not as realistic as some of the versions I've seen, but I like him.

Continuing to paint at a decent pace!

Finished Balmonoth (Games Workshop):-

He came out quite good I think.

I've also finished the Business Penguin (Etherfields):-

Kept it simple, but I think it works.

And brought some new stuff to the table, the Skeleton Champion:-

And the rather odd Ram Pin-up:-

Yes he is, I'd never painted a male pin-up mini so he jumped to the front of the queue.

Continuing to make progress:-

The Champion has had his armour done.

And Ram has had his magnificent buttocks painted!

My run of decent painting time kinda dried up this week, but I did get a little done.

The Champion is almost done, just the axe to go.

Ram is getting there slowly, but he's looking a little messy, my brush skills weren't quite up to painting that rope-bondage getup of his.

Thanks! That piccy was taken after I'd spent quite a while slowly fixing everything!

Despite not doing too much painting this week I still managed to finish the Champion (Games Workshop):-

Happy he's finally done, pain in bum to photograph though.

I also thought I'd finished Ram:-

But I'd forgotten to make him a base

Started new stuff too.

Padean the mighty barbarian.

And the Shrike Urchin, who, even with his base weighted with putty, tips over incredibly easily.

The Shrikes problems are a little on me, I attached him to his base a little too far forward, but yeah it's one they should have left resin-only.

JoshInJapan wrote:The pose on the Shrike Urchin is really hard to read. I honestly can't make heads or tails of the model.

It's a hard mini to photograph, particularly with my poor skills! Hopefully as I paint more of him, he'll make more sense.

Thanks for looking!

Finally got Ram (Kingdom Death) finished:-

He's still a little rough in places, but I'm happy.

Also made good progress on Padean:-

Should have him finished soon.

Shrikes going very slowly though:-

For every part I paint, two seem to take it's place! On the plus side though, I straightened one of his legs a bit and he's no longer really unstable.

Painting towards a brighter tomorrow! (Update 19th Apr:- Neverending Rage.) @ 2021/03/11 13:40:26

Post by: aku-chan

Finished Padean (Games Workshop):-

Really pleased with how this one ended up.

Still struggling with Shrike:-

I'm getting there slowly, but it just seems to be taking forever.

In the mean time, started my next Underworlds mini, Laserian:-

He's angry!

And while I had my flesh paints out, I also started this guy:-

I think it's a Scarecrow, but I need to dig out my Etherfields box to make sure.

Not going to be getting as much (for me) painting done for a while though. For reasons I don't really understand, I brought a model kit Bakery Shop:-

And putting it together is eating up quite a bit of my hobby time.

Finally got Shrike (Twisted) finished:-

Not super happy with him, but very glad he's finally off the table.

Also made a little bit of progress on Laserian:-

Should have him wrapped up before too long, hopefully.

It is. I need to paint his friend the Ratcatcher at some point.

Not painting at the moment. Ran out of greaseproof paper for my wet palette, and can't seem to find any at the mo' (and painting without a wet palette is just too weird now).
I've bit the bullet and ordered some proper palette paper, but until that arrives I'm building stuff:-

Kingdom Death stuff.

Yeah there's some really neat minis amongst this latest batch of Kingdom Death stuff, I've set a few aside for painting sooner rather than later.

Got my new wet palette, but still struggling to get going on the painting front.
Did manage to finish Laserian (Games Workshop) though:-

Pretty pleased with him.

Also made a little start on this Kingdom Death lady:-

She's got a weird left eye for some reason.

She'll eventually be holding a bug in front of her face, so it won't bother me so much.

Speaking of bugs:-

Being from Kingdom Death they, of course, have human faces.

Also made a start on Fahime, my next Underworlds mini:-

Keep making silly little mistakes (how did that spot of wash get in her hair?), so she's rather messy, but coming along okay.

Getting back into a painting groove, Fahime (Games Workshop) is done:-

At least she's off the table now.

Bug Girl is getting there:-

And I'm much happier with her.

Also started the next Underworlds mini, an Orc:-

Very early days.

And, totally out of left field, a Sewer Golem:-

Lots of fun to paint so far.

I know the feeling on that one Aku-chan. My Morathi model is single handedly one that I am most proud and ashamed of all at once. Some times I look at her and feel pride in what I was able to do but then I notice every single mistake I made and want to spend the next 10 years infinitely tweaking her colours. For what it's worth I think your take on Fahime is top notch.

Haven't been painting as much as I'd like (Stupid shaky hands!), but I did manage to finish the Bug Thief (Kingdom Death):-

Her bee-themed fur didn't end up looking as cool as it did in my head, but overall I'm happy with her.

Since I was concentrating on getting her finished neither my Orc:-

Or Golem:-

Thanks guys!

So no updates in a little while, I've been assembling my Cursed City set (I build as slowly as I paint):-

But now I'm back painting, and I finished Thabron (Games Workshop):-

Pretty pleased with how he ended up.

The Sewer Golem is continuing to get there slowly:-

So many little details! I also made a start on it's friend Cuttleberry:-

I don't think I want to know what you would catch fishing in the sewer.

I also started painting my Cursed City stuff:-

Beginning with the Ogre.

Finally, started another Kingdom Death mini, Swamp Girl, her fancy base came out well:-

But I'm struggling with the girl herself:-

She's got this weird smile on her face, but I'll be danged if I can paint it right. Plus, after a couple of attempts, the actual sculpted detail of her mouth is pretty much gone.
Going to set her aside for a couple days, see if I want to strip her down and start over or not.

I feel you, faces can be the worst. I really messed up Celestine's with a big blob of technical paint. But some Biostrip with a toothbrush made it possible to just strip the face and leave the rest of the mini. Maybe worth a try?

Excited for the ogre, love his skin tone, which colors did you use?

I'll have to gave it a try, hopefully I'll be able to strip just her mouth because I quite like the job I did on her eye.

The Ogre skin is a base of Vallejo Dwarf Flesh mixed with Vallejo Cold Grey, shaded with Reikland Fleshshade and then highlighted with the Dwarf Flesh/Cold Grey again and Dwarf Flesh/Light Flesh/Cold Grey.
I wanted to show the effect eating the undead was having on him, and it worked better than I thought it would.

Another mini finished, the Sewer Golem (Twisted):-

Took a while, but I'm really happy with him and his fishing buddy!

Ogre is getting there slowly too:-

Gotta go faster if I ever want my Cursed City set painted though.

Also pulled Minx out of the cupboard of unfinished things:-

Once she's done I'll to back and try to salvage Swamp Girl.

Thanks guys! Yeah, had a lot of fun painting the Golem.

Got another mini finished Minx (Guild Ball):-

Admittedly she was already mostly painted from a couple years, but at least she's done now, should've painted bigger spots on her cape though or more of them.

Didn't quite get the Ogre done though:-

Still needs his trousers painting.

Also decided to get a little bit more Guild Ball done with Hammer:-

He was a mass of mold lines, that I didn't do a great job of tidying up, but he doesn't look too bad.

As expected, didn't get all my Guild Ball minis built (trying to get Original Minx's stick-thin arms to attach at the elbows pushed me too far), but I got another 20 or so done.

So back to painting, there's some more Cursed City stuff, Skeletons:-

Doing them in pairs so I don't have to face the horror of batch painting.

Also in the mood for painting something big, so Goatman returns:-

Not sure if I'll get him finished, but I'll try.

Didn't get much painting done (Had builders in making a mess) but I did get my skeletons (Games Workshop) finished:-

They should make a nice group if/when I get the rest done.

Also got my goatman's head finished and attached:-

Now I just need to paint up lots and lots of swirly armour.

New to the table, I got my next bit of Cursed City:-

Jelsen - Gritty Vampire Hunter.

And:-

Head Robo-nun (minus her head for now).

Still hunting for my painting mojo, so I'm just working on any mini that holds my attention, at the moment that's Lysette (Reaper):-

Thanks! I really like the super-colourful takes people have had with the Kruleboyz, so I'm not sure why mine has ended up so muted.

Managed to get another mini finished, the Gladiator (Kingdom Death):-

Not too sure how I feel about this one, I like some of it (like her shield), but I find other bits really meh.

Didn't quite manage to finish anything else.

Goat Man just needs his back banners done.

The Orc is down to just the straps left.

And, returning to the painting table, my Starstrider Captain just needs her veil doing.

I would've got them finished, but this happened:-

I thought I was out of the Malifaux business, but seeing these guys on a certain Youtube show pulled me back in.
Hopefully I actually get them painted, instead of letting them sit around for a bit then selling them like the rest of my Malifaux stuff!

Gladiator came out very nice. Those Malifaux models are sweet. Looking forward to those. Glad to see the Rogue Trader back.

I'd be carved up by that gladiator for standing and drooling.

The cow that tried to jump over the moon and got it's head stuck in a mountain range is coming along great as well.

I haven't gotten hooked on Malifaux, the local shop got burned by it hard, but Miniature Market (which is too close to me) is having tournaments at their main location. Maybe one day i'll wander over to see it in action.

Thanks!
I love Malifaux stuff, I even enjoy assembling them (despite their fearsome reputation!) but they look so crap when I paint them I never make it more than a mini or two into a set before I give up.

Thought I'd have more done, but I got really flummoxed by my Goat Man's banner (I got into a weird headspace with them) and I eventually had to put him back in the Cupboard of Unfinished Things so I could actually start painting again.

I did finish Lady Vulnavia (Games Workshop) though:-

Not my best work, but decent enough.

And my Orc (Games Workshop):-

Really pleased with this one, I think he's pretty snazzy!

And, new to the table, there's now a Chubby Lamplighter:-

Gotta stop picking him up by his pole though, I can only re-attach those lamps so many times!

Fagin:-

His face is a bit of a mess, I basically had to guess where his eyes were, apart from that though he's coming along okay.

And another Orc:-

Hopefully this one turns out as good as the last one.

Thanks! He's a nifty little fella.

Unfortunately, the weird head-space I found myself in on the goat man has followed me to the other guys, so I packed them away for now.

I'm currently poking paint at a Reaper Frost Giantess (It's big enough that I shouldn't mess it up too much, and cheap enough to replace if I do), but it's very slow going:-

She's not going to be very pretty when she's finished, but I don't want to take a hobby break because at the moment it feels like it would be a permanent one.

Man, I know that feeling, and yeah, something cool enough I'm interested but cheap and out there enough I don't care much if I screw it up is usually how I deal with it. Giantess' skin is looking pretty solid so far!

I don't like the sound of it either but I don't think I'd drop out of the hobby completely, I still really like collecting and building minis, it's just the painting bit I keep struggling with.

Making slow but steady on my Giantess:-

She's not looking too bad.

And with Season 5 of Warhammer Underworlds on the horizon, I felt like tackling that particular backlog again:-

Jumpy Goat Man is back on the table.

Man, looking at those results it is hard to believe that you struggle with the painting side of the hobby. Your painting style is just so smooth, and I really like your overall palette and colour choices.

The Giantess is looking great. I notice from the first WIP shot of her that you work top down, I have seen other people do this but do not really understand it myself...is there any particular reason or benefit to this style of painting? Or is it just a personal choice thing.

Loved your work on Cursed City, and I am happy to see purple Undead any time.

Anyway, I hope the motivation side picks up, your painting is great. I will be making the effort to pop in more often.

Thanks!
It's just my stupid anxiety issues, it was bad enough when they just played havoc with my painting mojo, but now they're making me anxious about the hobby itself it's getting annoying.

I don't think there's any benefit to painting from the top down, it just comes from me trying to get their faces painted up first and liking to work on my minis in sections.

Mr jumpy goat/deer legs (Games Workshop) is all finished:-

I'm really pleased with how the little water bit of his base turned out.

Giantess is almost done, somehow never realised I didn't put any primer on her base, so I'm just waiting for that to dry.

Got a new Underworlds mini on the table, Angry Warrior Woman:-

Haven't done much yet.

Since you can't see that much of angry lady's armour I decided to keep it a simple steel and bronze scheme.

JoshInJapan wrote:I like the jumpy goat guy. One doesn't often see green and purple as a combination. Very bold.

Thanks! Yeah, I never really think about whether colours go together, luckily they do most of the time.

Got the Frost Giant Heroine (Reaper) all finished:-

For a mini where I kept things pretty simple, she looks fairly decent.

Angry Lady is a bit further along:-

I'm pretty pleased with her cape.

Also painted a base:-

Haven't done much to the Robo-Nun that goes on it though.

And a cuddly little Halfling Gangster:-

Gotta think of a suit colour.

Sorry to hear about your anxiety issues, it can be truly crippling and difficult to deal with.

I am interested in your initial painting process, is is a white/bone undercoat then a sepia wash just to get an idea of the details and dome shading?

The Frost Giant lady and Chaos heroine look great...as for the suit I say a vibrant green if going bright or a cool grey if going lighter.

Thanks!

Yeah, the wash is mainly there to help me make out the details, but, after skipping that step on my Giantess, I learnt that getting all the nooks and crannies shaded helps a surprising amount too.

Oh, and good call on green for his suit, he looks rather snazzy!

Viterbi wrote:Great work on the finished Giantess and really looking forward to the halfling gangster, that's a concept I haven't seen done before.

Thanks!
I've painted a couple in the past, not sure if they're in this thread or not:-

And my painting still hasn't improved even after all these years

So, managed to finish my gangster (Wolsung):-

He painted up rather nicely. It's a shame the Wolsung range is kinda dead, they had some neat ideas.

Almost finished the warrior woman:-

Just waiting on a fresh bottle of Brassy Brass to highlight the shield trim.

The lack of said Brassy Brass also put a stop to my robot nun:-

It was going very slowly anyways.

So Chubby Lamplighter has returned:-

Plus Calculus:-

Unfortunately, I'm probably gonna need Brassy Brass for these two at some point as well (I use it on pretty much everything) so hopefully it arrives at the end of the week like it's meant to.

Yeah, Wolsungs Scylla faction was definitely one of the more unusual ones out there.

Finished two things! (despite having a bad cold I can't seem to shift), first there is my Angry Warrior Woman (Games Workshop):-

Really pleased with how she came out, looking forward to painting the rest of her team ...eventually.

Also painted a skeleton (Games Workshop):-

Came out okay considering how speedily (for me) I finished him.

Not much progress on Lamplighter though:-

I keep breaking bits off and have to set him aside while the glue dries. Good thing I'm not a gamer, I'd hate to have to transport him anywhere.

Also not much progress on Calculus:-

I'm getting there, just very slowly.

Yeah, Lamplighter is meant for gaming (he's a Malifaux mini), not quite sure he was designed for it though.

Viterbi wrote:Always such a great mix on your desk, love all the WIPs (although as a SoB player I'm partial the the supreme robot nun leader ).

Thanks!
Robo Nun is coming back to the desk next, could take a while to get done though, she's not as fun to paint as I thought.

The whole household is struggling with various cold/flu/other problems that just won't go away, so not a lot of painting going on.
I did manage to finish both Calculus (Guild Ball):-

And Chubby Lamplighter (Malifaux):-

Not my best work on either of them, but at least they're done.

Also continuing to very slowly chip away at my Underworld stuff, I'm working on a Sea Elf:-

The cape is rather rough, but it's the best I can manage at the moment.

I've got plenty of Guild Ball stuff still to paint.

Speaking of which, I finished another mini, Hammer from Guild Ball:-

Not super happy with him (I never could get rid of all his mold-lines), but it's another one done.

Still slowly working on my Sea Elf:-

It's turning out to be quite a hard mini to paint.
As is Robo Nun:-

But I'll get there eventually.

Finished another mini, Indra the Sea Elf (Games Workshop):-

He's okay, just seem to be lacking in the painting skills department lately (And I was never that good in the first place).

Next in the Underworlds queue, Yrkill the Sky Dwarf:-

Just painted their flight suit so far.

A small update on Robo Nun:-

She has a head now.

Plus Hercules:-

The Robo-nun is getting there slowly, I really should have made life easier for myself and left the left arm off though.

Haven't really made enough progress lately to warrant an update, but thought I'd explain what's going on.

Basically, the cold/flu/other I was fighting most of October, turned out to be other, namely Covid.
I'm now fine but my housemate also caught it and wasn't so lucky, she eventually got over it, but it's really effected her mentally, and it's made looking after her (I'm her live-in carer) a lot more stressful.
I try and do a little bit of painting when I can, but I have no idea when/if I'll actually finish anything.

So I'll see you when I see you folks.

Yeah, when fully assembled, trying to paint pretty much anything on the left hand side involves poking your brush into the darkness and hoping you've hit the right bit!

Thanks! She's a little bit better, not sure if she'll ever be 100% again though.

Still got 3 more to do in the KO set, Gatling Gunner, Chemist and Floaty Dude.

Thought I'd have a finished Robo-Nun to show-off (Just got to paint the purity seals and tidy the base), but I've got my leg elevated after I hurt my ankle (And then hurt my leg trying to help my ankle ) and I can't fit under my paint desk

But I have picked my next minis, a certain trio of Christmas Spirits:-

Managed to get one final mini finished before years end, the Robo-Nun (Games Workshop)! -

There's a few areas that could use some work (Like her face), but overall I'm pretty happy with her, and she's finally off the painting table.

And with that, it takes me to 35 minis painted in 2021, which isn't that bad considering life has kept getting in the way (There's been a few times this year where I've considered just packing it all away and giving up on the hobby).

See you in the New Year, hopefully it contains less anxiety and stress!

Thanks!

Viterbi wrote:Finished Robo-Nun ftw!!! Great way to exit the hobby year and gotta echo youwashock, here's to a hopefully better 2022!

Thanks!

JoshInJapan wrote:In all your WIP photos, I never noticed the little human-sized arms sticking out of the sides. What a cool little detail!

Your purple turned out great. What do you use? My Army Painter purple is super thin and transparent, and I'd love to have something better.

Thanks!
I use Vallejo Game Colour Hexed Lichen as my main purple, it's lovely!

Happy New Year everybody!

Starting the year off well by finishing a mini, The Ghost of Christmas Future (Reaper):-

Really pleased with this one, it's a shame I don't have many "simple" minis in my backlog, they're a lot easier to paint!
Just got the other two to finish now...

Added a couple more guys to the painting table.
Jelsen from Cursed City:-

With the game coming back (With expansions! Yay!) I want to try and get at least a little bit more painted up.

And this poor Deep Sea Diver:-

I'm sure Malifaux minis are getting bigger.

That Deep Sea Diver looks a little stuck-up
Good to see more CC coming our way, I need to make some headway too with that box.

Xmas Future looks very nice. All about that deep purple.

Found your blog by accident and I've now read my way through all of it. Two things: I really like your use of bright colours on your models as it makes a nice change from the typical gritty styles, and... now I want to buy some KD models myself - shame they are so difficult to buy.

My goal with Cursed City is to try and paint enough to balance out all the extra minis that will come with the expansions (Of course now I've said that, one of the expansions is going to end up having 50 ghosts in it or something!)

Thanks! Yeah I'm super pleased with how her dress turned out.

Thanks for taking the time to go through the whole thing!
Yeah, collecting Kingdom Death stuff is hard work, I'm just glad I'm no longer trying to keep up with their resin releases too!

Another mini finished!
This time it's the Ghost of Christmas Past (Reaper):-

Not as happy with this one as I was with Future, but she still looks decent.
Still got Present to finish, but she's been bumped off the table at the moment, while I paint Reaper's latest competition mini (I don't expect to get anywhere, it just looked like a really fun mini to paint!)

Looking good, Past. She makes a nice contrast to Future, too.

Thanks!

I'm on a bit of a roll at the moment, 2 more minis finished!

There's Jelsen the Vampire Hunter (Games Workshop):-

And the Wayward Mariner (Malifaux):-

Pretty happy with both of them, but I wish the Mariner fitted on his base better, he looks awkward all squished in the corner like that.

Adding new stuff to the desk, I'm continuing with the Cursed City stuff:-

My first Vampire!

I also want to try and put a dent in my Twisted pile this year, so I'm starting with this guy:-

The Human Torpedo!

Diving helmets abound. The finish on the Wayward Mariner's is fantastic. Loving the skintones on the vamp already.

I also love a good diving helmet mini

A Cursed City expansion with 50 ghosts would be easy, spray - wash - drybrush But I know what you are getting at and if the availability is as bad as with BSF, one needs to snatch those expansions up directly.

Finished mariner looks great, those nearly neon corals are lovely. Regarding the base, do you have some Idoneth bits to put on there?

You're picking some cool models, and really doing them justice
I especially like the wayward mariner, but I agree with you that it would be even better if it was a little more centered on the base.

Thanks! Unfortunately I ran into issues with that vampire, need to rethink it.

Yeah, they're cool.

*Looks at his half-finished Briar Queen set* If only I could keep things that simple!

Sadly, no random fishy bits to fill out my Mariners base.

Got more stuff finished!

First, the Human Torpedo (Twisted):-

Really happy with him, even if I attached his smoke trail a little wonky.

Zombie Ogre Guard (Warhammer:- Cursed City):-

Switched to this guy while I think about Vampire skin. Another one I'm happy with.

I also finished my competition mini, going to be a couple months before I can show off that one though.

Added new stuff to the table:-

Ghost of Christmas Present is back:-

Plus Cleo:-

And Elf Archer Lady:-

Not sure why my piccys started getting washed out suddenly.

You paint some funky cool minis. Human Torpedo is great. No idea what Cleo is, but I can't wait to see her finished. The harp bow on the elf should fill me with disgust, but it works!

Once again a real eclectic mix! And despite the danger of parroting, I too – like youwashock – am most excited for Cleo. Pose, weaponry and her kite thingy on the back look already so cool.

Thanks! Yeah, the harp bow is pretty silly, but in my head she uses the extra bowstrings when she needs to put more power in to her shot.

Yep, Cleo is an interesting one, She's a mix between Lara Croft, Kite Man and a 1920's flapper girl.

Got my final Christmas ghost finished, Christmas Present (Reaper):-

Really pleased with all three.

I just figure its style points on the harp bow. Christmas set looks good too, I like the pants on present and both dresses especially.
