I love these!!!! They are simple in their look (although im sure they are far from it in creation) and that's what is so wonderful about them. Nothing looks forced to look awesome! They just ARE. I especially love the initiate holding his helmet and with the banner and the assault guy with two chainswords (he REALLY wants to kill stuff i guess haha).
AWESOME!!!
The more Black Templar i see, the more I want to have an army of em! I may just be a convert yet! haha. They always were my favorite chapter besides Dark Angels (to be honest, they are tied haha).

Interesting to search for neophytes out of the box. Certainly, that is the way to go, instead of taking the obvious scout models. Scouts, BTs don't even have scouts... Superb and well thought out plan there thedevilgunner.

Oh, you are right. Doi! It is a holy hand grenade (first though shalt count to three, no more, no less ). I was also talking about the guy with the mustache and the banner. It looked like a hand with a helmet at first glance. I see it as a power fist now? The image I am getting is a ittle out of focus there. ANYWHO, it looks awesome and I love the facial hair haha.
and in terms of that new terminator i say awesome! 0.o I love the red checkered pattern. Very medieval and knightly. I too wonder why nobody uses as many chain weapons such as flails, maces, etc for Black Templar. They are so knightly haha. Awesome stuff!

thanks guys for your comments and im so with you VardenV2 there should be heaps more chain weapons for BT maybe they might release some in the next codex update.
An answer on your question ironsilence on average a group of three initiates will take 5 hours, The Lord marshall took 11 hrs, the Castellans 4 hrs, the champion about 14hrs bitch to paint that one, and the first terminator took 8hrs, the second terminator only 6hrs coz i took away the grey shading stages on the black armour.

They look amazing. Really nice chain mace on the last termi....Interesting use of a bare head in the dreadnought (which looks too top-heavy right now...could just be picture angle) and I'm not sure it works...really nice painting though....

Post by: Natorum
That's some fantastic modelling and painting you've done there, very unique.
One suggestion I would make is perhaps look into using Tamiya clear red and Tamiya smoke mixed together for your blood effects. It's so much better than flat red paint which to my mind doesn't fit the rest of the great work you've done.

got tired of painting today so i made this dude hes something like what im after for the sword brethren terimnators my army will have. The idea behind this guy is that hes jumped up over the rise and is shooting a something that hes about to put his fist through note the draw back of his power fist arm,the robe is all green stuff and i made the rope holding it on to his armour out of very thin steel wire.
Second picture is a set of objective point markers.

Concerning the jumping terminator. I like the jumping pose very much. I've looked a bit more at it and I think the unknown "disturbance in the force" might be about the legs. It looks like the termi is standing in mid air. You might want to try to stretch one leg, and maybe lift the other knee a bit. I've done something similar with my shrikes ( http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/305797.page ) if you want some ideas. The tabard might be flapping in a odd direction too? I don't know, but the front view/power fist pose make it look like it's jumping in the direction of the gun, but from the back the tabard make it look like it's jumping toward the left (seen from behind), which make the draw back of the fist a bit weird, weird as is "he's jumping to the left, wanting to hit something on the right with his left fist", if you follow me.

The best way I've found to do a "stringy blood and guts effect" is to glue small pieces of thin fishing line, about 5 - 15 mm from the weapons edge. Then dribble some of the glue down the fishing line so it formes a dropplet at the end. then mix some nice blood paint (I use a gloss engine red myself) with some everyday beach sand (not too much, a little go's a long way). Paint the sand/blood mix onto the dried fishing line and your done. easy to do and looks fantastic when your through.

thanks for the replies guys and as for the yellow im making some fluff on the army for a tourni that has the high marshall and others originating from the imperial fists and being promoted to the veteran chapter. Hence the yellow and not black.
Sort of building the army off a very near post heresy timed theme when the BT chapter was first founded. That and i think the yellow in the command squads looks quite good and is very easy to tell between.

I know you were looking for an idea on doing gore effects. I really like the color chosen for your command squad. I've always been a fan of personalizing armor to pick out important figures/squads, and that is a perfect implementation of it. I just have to say it was incredibly clever to combine Fantasy Warriors of Chaos and Space Marines to get your Neophytes. Outstanding work!
I'm about to start a Black Templar army, and I think that just might be the path I take. I also have a massive amount of leftover Bretonnian bits. I think a combination between the two would look pretty dynamic. Curse this afghanistanish country, I want to get back to modeling >_<

I really like your painting style, you have plenty awsesome ideas and you catch the Templar/Knight sprit very well.
I really dont like the Scribor Templar, I just think he doesnt fiz.
I would remove more hair from the Space Wolves and I dont think the Dread should have a bare and fine head and so much weapons.
I am not fan of Servoarmour helmets on Terminator Armour either.
That Ravenwing Techmarine Helmet is really a fine idea for an Apothecarius.
Brutius and that Skull Temple Razorback are over the top, just to much, too large. I mean that axe is impossible to wield and just looks out of scale.

Funny you say that Bakerofish, i ws actually stuffing around with my rhinos the other day and i thought id build one up to something i had seen on youtube awhile back by BTP.
Ive changed it alittle and there is still green stuff and paint to go but i think it will do.
Tell us what you think
Question for thedevilgunner... What pack/model are the extra bits from? I'm planing a Landraider conversion (In a few months) and its just what i need for some of the decor.
Swwweeet looking BT's, love the Marshal and Champ.

another update ive changed my marshall to be more WYSIWYG for the upcoming tournis in the next few weeks so ive replaced his bolter on the fist to be a chainfist and the other arm no longer has a sword and now holds a storm bolter.
Let us know if you guys like the changes i think his pose is still quite nice with the changes, and id prefer this as i now can use him in a game and not just have him on a shelf lookin good.

I really hope you tell us how you did that ball and chain weapon, that thing is probably the most unique idea I've seen done for the BT.

Looks great, but the eyes look a bit... cat-ish. just a pet-peeve of mine, otherwise, cool stuff!

Post by: thedevilgunner
its just the photo on the eyes his got proper pupils and stuff, on the chain weapon i just drilled a hole through the fist and then with a pin attached to an end of chain threaded it through the hole in the fist and then wrapped it from there. i litey smeared super glue on the rest of the chain to harden the shape coming off the ball.

How do you paint so fast? and How do you get your white to look so clean?

P3 white its awesome and also i undercoat all areas first with vellajo sky grey.
Here is the first land raider that ive done in a while, this will be the basic version with the command LR to have i big temple on top with coffins of fallen High Marshalls on top. Still yet to do weather and damage effects but its good enough for the tourni tomorrow, ive still yet to do 7 marines tonight so im not ganna stuff around with that stuff yet.

just un updtae im taking these guys down as a 1750 BA list called the templars sanguine, ive painted up a librarian for the tourni and made a display board. The boards a bit rough but ile put some patches of grass and do some lighter dry brushing on areas and itll look a treat.

Amazing work on the modelling and the painting. All of the Marines look excellent.
The vehicles are quite nice as well... except for the Razorback. It looks ridiculous, mounting a weapon on a platform that denies LOS to itself.
The concept will work on a Rhino and Vindi, perhaps on a LR since only upgrade weapons and sensors will sit above the "platform" of the vehicles top hull.
Please, rethink the Razorback.
Everything else looks great.

I looked at this thread probably 3 or 4 months ago, and I loved it. I only looked at it today after not doing any painting / modelling since the last time I saw this and it just ignited my passion to pick up a brush! Soon after though I realised my chaos black was all out, which never helps when painting Templars (instead I decided to get my drill out for some converting). I look forward to seeing more updates from this!
P.S: I really love your Land Raider and I think I will try something similar on mine!

Obviously these are pre-heresy black templars

[quoteObviously these are pre-heresy black templars]
this wasn't my intention at the start of this army but now that there is a great source of pre-heresy and heresy era models than i figured why not.
As for the librarian i don't have him anymore it was a model i did for a mate and i used for a comp and i played them as blood angels.
Id love a new BT Codex.

So they're Imperial Fists? lol
36184
Post by: Alfndrate
>_< Not the reaction I was expecting.... You're right, technically pre-heresy Black Templars would be Imperial Fists, but that's part of the joke. By saying you're playing "Pre-Heresy" Black Templars, you're playing an army that didn't exist until after the heresy. By adding in a librarian, you're playing a piece that doesn't exist within the fluff. I think Kronk's title still says, "Pre-Heresy Black Templar Librarian"
