I love how the scoop of that collar armour looks when it's not paired with a helmet but now I'm torn! I was going to go with the Heavy Armour torsos and a mix of Gothic Void helmets and bare heads for my Fire Drake vets.. but the Gothic Void torsos look so good!

Ok, I'm gonna sell of the two Infinity starter sets I stupidly bought years ago and buy AFTERLIFE ones instead! What should I be, Russ? Is there a third faction coming out at some point?

Also, Joel or anyone else in Anvil-land, I remember buying these two robot models years ago, at the same time as buying a load of bionic bits off you guys. I don't know if I actually bought these kits off another company, or if they're old Anvil kits that you don't make any more. Recognise them??

Spoiler:

I recognize it. That's from Bitspudlo. They're a Polish company. Definitely not an Anvil product.

Yay, Ian, go get Afterlife!

I have a considerable number of points of both Republic and Unity. In the short term, I am currently getting my Unity forces ready first, but I have more total Republic and in the long term, I think it'll stay that way. Right now, I think the Unity army list is slightly better balanced, between various unit types, but both lists have enough choices that either is completely viable.

James has a Republic force, but no mechs for it yet. Dan (Sanders), Rick and a guy I just met last night have all played, but none have models yet.

I've written a couple of medium sized army lists that include what I consider to be the "iconic" units in each force. I could bring them along to HATE for a game, and you can choose which you like best?

Also, go to the website and download the rulebook. V1.3 is the same as the printed rulebook, and I have a couple of them we can use at the club, so no need to print it.

So good they hurt, Martian Orbital Fusiliers.

As a sculptor myself I'm having an existential crisis seeing what Joel and the team is capable of. These must be some of the best sci-fi miniatures out there, including anvil's service and production methods.

This might be a bit of an odd thought, but I'd love to see some civilian parts for the regiments range. I was looking for some civvies and can't find any I'd really like to buy. It would be especially great to be able to mix and match civilian parts to make paramilitary forces. Hoodies, heads in scarves, hands holding nothing and hands holding molotov cocktails could add a very different range to what you do now, but still work within the regiments line, maybe?

Yup the martian fusiliers are awesome. Went to get some shield arms and some of the riot infantry, ended up with these guys. Very nice design and go to get in a flash (no mold lines, everythings go peg joints. Bliss!).

I'd like to see them add these regiments as seperate catagories though, so that rather then having to click through the build options for command squad, specialist etc its all there.

Id also like a heavy tesla gun too please joel!

Afternoon all!

Apologies for my slow response, Ive been away and then busy with new Regiments Heavy Weapons - see preview below!

@BrookM - Thanks for posting the photo! I think the figure looks great with the female head!

@Commander Dante - No current plans for female heads, but its something I would like to try out in the future - the hold up is that just making heads wont really be enough, to get female figures to look correct in "heroic scale" the entire anatomy needs to be slightly different - narrower waist and shoulders, slightly smaller hands and feet etc.
The current plan is to sell male regiments figures for a while, and then once we've got a good idea of which are the most popular combinations and options - Ill look at making small sets of female parts for those.

In the meanwhile Victoria Miniatures does some great female bits which would likely fit well with our parts (thought Ive not tried it)

@Fifty - thanks for posting up the game info, looks good! Ill try and make it down to the club soon and we could try and get a few games going at once!

@Arbitorian - When I go back to doing some work on Afterlife figures, the plan is to add some vehicles, flesh out the CRANE corporation as a separate faction and also release the resistance faction - underground civilian resistance fighters/criminal types, but no current ETA as I'm working on regiments stuff for the time being.

As Barzam kindly points out - not our robot figures.

@MOTN - thanks for the photos! Glad you like the figures- I look forward to seeing them painted!

Civilian parts for Regiments range -

As suggested by Fifty, this is something Im considering incorporating at some point, parts to make a more varied civilian militia/contractors/zombie survivors. Though I'm not sure exactly when I will get around to it.

@GomezAdams - The plan with the Regiments is to add a "Platoon Builder" which will allow the one click purchase of multiple squads of varied types, only having to select the primary options once.

A Heavy Tesla Gun, to mount on the weapon carriages (preview below) is on the cards for the second wave of heavy Weapon parts.

Something missing from 28mm is lady engineers and the like at work. There are plenty of male models of this type by Tamiya and other scale model companies, but no women at all. If/when civilian stuff comes around, that's the kind of thing I'd really like to see.

Has anyone tried the Gothic Void and/or Medieval Heads/Torsos on the plastic Cadians? (Using the Arms/Legs.)

I love the void torsos but I don't think the cadian arms would fit on the torsos.

But for Real. The price difference between the Build your own Upgrade Set and buying the done up squads is more or less exactly the same as buying the Cadian Shock Trooper Box at Full Retail, and I get alot more bits.

I can buy the Cadian Shock Trooper Box at a slight Discount Locally. Thus it works out slightly cheaper, and I get alot more bits to play with. I know what you mean. Kitting out the Vet squad I want + a heavy weapon option when they come out will be more expensive than just buying the Get Started: AM box for ~£40 (comes with free toy car thing too!). I don't mind paying more to get exactly the squad I want, but I have to get it right first time. If I buy a particular combination of parts and they don't fit too well, I'd be pretty sad

You know, on the topic of getting the "perfect look" it might be cool to see how the regiment bits mix with victoria's bits. Her great coat legs with the Gothic void torso/heads would might give you something kinda like the dkok. Maby 30k tallaren or something.

Victoria minis are quite slender. I'm interested in a comparison but I suspect these are maybe a little bit more chunky. Personally I find chunky legs with smaller body and arms looks a lot better than the other way around.

Morning all,

@MOTN - Wow! Thanks so much for that, As soon as I get a break from sculpting Ill give it a try - probably slightly different colours but the same methods, an hour per figure for that end result is brilliant!

@Frozen Ocean - No immdiate plans to add female figures to the Regiments range, but Id like to do a few next year if I get a chance.

In the mean while Lena Petrova from the Afterlife range might suit - she is tiny compared to regiments figures, but could believable represent a very petite female engineer type.

http://anvilindustry.co.uk/AFTERLIFE/Republic/Lena-Petrova

Otherwise have you looked at Hasslefree? They have so many models!

@Lockark - I started typing "no probably not" but then spent 5 mins putting a test figure together and it works much better than expected!

The only issue is the metal "straps" over the torso shoulders, but if you trim the tops of the cadian pads ever so slightly, they attache underneath them without looking weird.

Picture is worth a thousand words and all that.. see below.

@Siygess - If you buy regiments bits and are unhappy, we will swap them free of charge, or if you want just one of something to test it out before putting in a larger order, we can sort that out as well. We cant match plastic cadians on price, but good customer service doesnt cost us anything

Regarding Victoria Miniatures - she has some great parts which I think would work with regiments - I understand both ranges are scaled appropriately to work with Cadian plastic parts, so they should be interchangeable. I will email Vic when I get a chance and see if we can arrange some official mix and match photos.

Also attached - new autocannon render, based heavily on the real world M230 Autocannon. printing today!

Joel, I know you're probably e focussed on Regiments Wave 4 right now, but, as you may have noticed, a certain company just officially released a faction that hasn't really had models before. There's a particular weapon that may or may not include the words 'cannon' and frag' in some order that people seem to feel there is an insufficient quantity of readily available.

Potential opportunity afoot...

These are actually really, really fabulous. I look forward to seeing the range of gun styles expanded in the future. There are many, many different IG regiments available, but having more heavy weapons of differing styles with core similarities available makes them so much more unique, whilst fitting the procurement fluff.

Morning all,

Thanks for the feedback, Im just working on a few last improvements and additions to the Frag Launcher, then I will get it printing!

@Ketara thanks for posting the HW's up,

Glad you like them

Here is the info for what will provisionally be included in Heavy Weapons Wave two, in about 3-4 weeks time.

Wave Two Heavy Weapons (scheduled for mid September) will include:

Guns : Maxim Gun, Twin HMG, Field Gun, Cyclic Phase Blaster, Flame Cannon
Gun Mounts : Large Gun Carriage (with larger wheels), Walking Mech platform
Additional Kneeling Legs and Gunner/Spotter Arms for the Regiments range, to allow the creation of Custom Six man Heavy weapons Squads.

@JohnnyHell - I'm afraid Sockwithaticket has it correct!

@Azazelx - absolutly. when the Heavy weapons teams are available I will be creating a "platoon builder" much as you describe, so we can offer slightly better discounts on larger orders.

The breaking double barrel is fun but doesn't look exactly military issue, not to dudes in exo suits.

The thing is that position is not as "cool", and why GW, Warlord, and every other plastic mini manufacture dose their kneeing legs. Kneeling means they double for modelling line infantry taking a kneeling shooting position.

It also means the same pair of legs can be used for both the gunner and the loader.

The Sitting shooting position well more realistic for heavy weapon gunners and emplaced infantry, are more situational in how you can use them and don't look as "cool" to the average modeller. When modelling infantry who are behind emplacements/earth works/ect a sitting position is prob more realistic then the kneeling position. But I don't realy see anyone actully doing that for their table top army lol.

Edit:
Some pics and a link to a website explaining what the shooter is doing in the photo's, in the spoiler.

These Shooting positions were covered in my firearms safety course i took when i was younger. I actually know that the Sitting position is one of the most stable positions to fire from, but personaly knew many hunters who refuse to use it just because of how silly they felt they looked doing it. They would rather do the more dignified kneeling position. The fact that they would refuse to do it when hunting deer and stuff despite being the better position then the kneeling position, is the reason I think it's a pose on mini's that wouldn't sell very well.

edit: edit: Tank rider infantry TBH is kinda situational also. For example, The exposed upper tracks on GW's IG tanks, means no good places to realy put the riders TBH.

Morning all,

@Mr Rose,

Thats a good idea, we have the "automatic shotgun" but its a really old product. A pump action version would be a good addition. Not sure when I'll get to it, but Ive put it on the list.

@Big H (and LDD and Lockark)

Seated legs have already been suggested and I like the idea.

The plan is to make a sprue of three "gunner" legs in each style, to be paired with 3 random standing static legs to make each 6 man Heavy weapons squad.

The sprue will contain 2 x kneeling legs (different from the existing kneeling sculpt) and 1 x legs sitting on an ammo/supplies box of some kind.

Unfortunately they cant be fully sitting on the ground because to be modular, the waist has to be the same height as the kneeling legs (which then match up with the gunner arms/weapon mount).

I'm off on holiday for a few days now, so my posts here will be sporadic/non existent until September 8th!

Charlie and Adam will be running the show in my absence don't worry!

If you were to make the seated legs and the ammo/supplies box into separate pieces, people could use the seated legs for tank riders and the ammo/supplies box for extra scenery.

I like this idea. I would prob use the legs "as intended", but could see others haveing great fun with that.

Personal I think the sitting on boxes legs would be great for artillery Crew. Could see doing a officer sitting down to check his math for the shots his crew is getting ready to take.

Very impressive Barzam!

I love the overall scheme and particularly the hazard stripes!

My only comment would be that having so many bright colours (orange, yellow, red, green, blue) is quite visually chaotic, it may look better with slightly fewer different ones.

I love seeing Regiments stuff painted up, I've still not managed to get around to any myself, too busy sculpting them!

Once it's clear that the weapon combo you're thinking of won't be FAQed out of existence it may well be worth doing

They don't need to do anything, they've made plenty of contradictory or inconsistent FAQ answers already... They can simply write that Veterans can't take both a Bolter and a Shotgun and that's that, which I suspect is what they'll do.

Even if they do that, which I doubt they will, shotguns in holsters or boltguns in holsters would still be quite useful for Deathwatch.

Afternoon all!

@Commander Dante - There are some large scale pads, and large bionic arms, but otherwise no, and no current plans to release any more bits in the forseable future. I need to do a full revamp of most of the main Exo-Lords line first and that is pencilled in for early next year.

@Gomez- Got an Afterlife Character launch planned for the end of the month, and a preview/preorder of the Regiments trenchers, which are a little behind schedule but should be available by the middle of next month (at least for pre order)

@Nekooni - Thanks, and no current plans for a combi weapon as you decribe, but its a possibility at some point.

@Hotshot - image link is broken.. I feel like I need to see it!

@Various people discussing shotguns - Yes, we know we need a new Exo-Lord shotgun, Ill make a sprue with some with hands and at least one holstered one. Not sure exactly when I will get to it.

@Manus - fortunately for me, and unfortunately for everyone waiting on new stuff, I was indeed on holiday for a lot of August.

I'm back now, almost caught up with admin/sorting, and parts to make Regiments heavy weapon squads will be out next week!

The "Big release" is the regiments trenchers, which I will preview at the end of the month, and possibly put up for a pre order period so we can gauge demand.

For today, we have a COMPETITION!!

This weeks conversion corner is an entire Deathwatch Killteam, lovingly converted by me and Adam and maxed out with Anvil bits to make the baddest and most original/unique squad possible.

and you can WIN the squad, not the parts to make the squad, the actual miniatures shown here!

For more information on the Unit and how we built it, head over to the Conversion Corner page on our website HERE

To enter the competition, just head over to the Facebook post HERE, Like it, and leave a comment of some kind, in order to enter into the draw. We have 2 x £15 vouchers up for grabs as well.

Cheers

Joel

@MOTN - As usual superb work! Really like the red lenses and battle worn look!
Ill be sticking these (with your permission) in an upcoming blog post, as we are almost ready to re-release the Warden mechs, they've been out of production for well over 6 months now!

@Nostrodamus -

Yes they were.. Our careful planning has once again been thrown off track BUT..

We have the molds now, so fingers crossed we will be launching the Regiments heavy weapon teams tommorow! Or certainly, the next few days.
I actually started painting up a team of Tallinn Citadel Guard with Heavy Grenade Launcher, so far I've got some nice scenic bases done..

Also this week we will be launching our new Hobby Blog, the C-48 Wardens return.
Next week will see the launch of our special Halloween figure, a Werewolf, which I started work on today.

After that.. the two new characters recently previewed for Afterlife, along with new character rules PDF.

and after that (I.e in a couple of weeks time) we will be previewing the Trenchers and putting them up for Pre-Order with some kind of special deal.

Aiming for end of the month with the trencher stuff, so only a month behind schedule.. not too bad.

Good news Commander Dante -

Thanks to Forgeworld making their DKOK look almost exactly like French WW1 infantry, I can make our trenchers look almost exactly like WW1 infantry and they will looks strikingly similar to DKOK.

There will of course be a few differences here and there, I dont want to do exactly the same Sci-fi take.

Our range will have parts for making british and russian style trenchers as well as the french/german style helm.

No previews yet - I am hoping to have them up for pre-order in a couple of weeks time, for a general release in late October or early November.

For now, here is a painted Tallinn Citadel Guard Heavy weapons team I did yesterday!

And the new Heavy Weapons Squad here -

@RiTides - Yes they were, and still are used in Afterlife, it just made sense to use them in both ranges as they are quite generic parts which work in both scales.

@JoeRugby - You will be a very happy man then Brodie style helmets with gas masks, and probable also a sprue without gasmasks, will be released with the first wave of trencher stuff.

@Fifty - Yeah ok steal my thunder :p

Anyone wondering how they can get their hands on new resin well before general release - Fifty has been extremely helpful and enthusiastic in helping me play test Afterlife!

Everyone else can get the figures soon ish. We are a bit behind with new releases at the moment!

Dont worry, I'm really excited about it, cant wait to get started etc BUT I have no intention of rushing it.

3+ new head sets, 2 torso sets, 2 new arm sprues with a new rifle, 2 leg sets and more heavy weapons all at once is quite an undertaking!

We will likely be running a Pre-Order with a free character model to get some orders in advance and help plan out the production molds better, as I anticipate high demand.

I'm likely to spend the next few weeks working on some Afterlife stuff, some random Exo-Lord bitz and a special Halloween miniature, but after that, Trenchers are next in the queue, so it wont be that long now!

Err.. We just like a tasty beverage while we wait for the print to finish...

Isopropyl alcohol - Its definitely NOT for drinking, but helps remove all the left over uncured photo sensitive resin from the print, immediately after it comes off the printer, we just soak it for a few minutes.

I’m sure it’s been brought up somewhere in this thread but my search-fu has failed, so I’m just going to ask:

With GW releasing Mk. III armor in plastic, I was looking for something to turn them into a breacher squad. I really like the look of the Ballistic Shields but they look to be part of the “Regiments” range (guard equivalent) not the “Exo-Lords” (MEQ) Has anyone used these shields on space marines, and if so, how did it turn out?

And can they just be glued onto a normal set of bolter-holding arms, or would I have to pick those up as well? I know I can find enough awesome stuff to toss in the cart to get to the free shipping threshold, but would prefer to add shiny stuff, and not just arms I have a bitz-box full of.

They are definitely Guard-sized, not Marine-sized. They would look like combat shields on Marines, not Boarding shields. However, they can simply be glued onto the bolter arms, that was how they were designed originally for the Afterlife stuff.

The Exo-Lord shields are more appropriately sized, but they don't have one in that style.

Morning all,

@Barzam - we are still offering 15% discount until 31th October, so they are £8.50 at the moment.

We will be having a Werewolf painting competition soon!

@Nevelon, Haigus is quite right (Thanks Haigus) The Ballistic shields were actually designed for Afterlife, but work ok with regiments.
The Riot Shields are a very old product, they really need replacing with an improved version. The plan is to do a full revamp of the entire Exo-Lords range next year, which is when I will get a chance to work on new shields most likely.

The Riot shields have a flat attachment point, so only really work well with our shield arms, they would not work that well with bolter arms, although you could cut out a segment for the bolter, at which point they might work better.

If I may give abit of 2 cents.... The Skull Mask here looks more Halloween Decoration then scary mask. You want something more like a stylised skull like the punisher logo, Death jester mask or the skull masks the DKoK grenadiers wear. Maby even consider doing away with the lower jaw details, in favour of tieing in more gasmask/helmet details to make it look more clearly like a mask.

The Bone Texture to the mask also doesn't make any sense, were are they finding giant human skulls they can put their own head inside of and turn into gas masks? Make the skull look more like a mask.

I feel this would give a much more aggressive look.

Anvil Industry - August Final days: Medieval Mech Loyalty Reward + Civilian Disaster Response! @ 2016/10/26 11:20:34

Post by: Anvils Hammer

Very good points Lockark,

The exaggerated bone style sculpting would have virtually disappeared at 28mm scale but I agree more mask like would be better.

Hows this for a second go? I've hardened up all the edges, made the upper skull bit larger, removed the lower jaw, and added an RPG-7.. just because..

While I would say that is certainly an improvement, the removal of the lower jaw gives a bit of a bucktooth impression that detracts from the overall menace of the mask. I do really like the eyes on the new mask though

Hmm, I am thinking that the skull mask version 2, whilst definitely an improvement, could perhaps benefit from having the area above the teeth and perhaps also the teeth elongated below the nose to make the whole mask have a more elongated and slightly inhuman look. It would probably make it look less buck-toothed too.

On another note, I got my order Today and started bashing out some Infantry with the GW kits. Overall I love how these are coming out and the quality is great. The only thing to note when useing with the GW kits is that when you line the torsos up are the front their is a wired overhang in the back. TBH I blame this more on the wonky-ness of the cadians who are a very old kit from GW. Luckily the webbing bits you get in the kit are perfect for covering this gap.

Once I do my next order I plan on picking up some void torsos to do some test fits with the new plastic storm troopers.

I'd say that the mask needs something on the bottom to balance out the slight "overbite" look that the lack of a lower jaw causes. Perhaps some kind of mechanical-looking chin thing? Or a rebreather?

Thanks for the further feedback and ideas guys!

I'll have another go at the skull mask next week if I get a chance.

@jake1974 - some kind of bolt action rifle styled phase rifle, and a pump action shotgun like an older Remington.

@Lockark - thanks for the photos, great conversions! yeah I think the Cadian legs are a little less round and uniform than regiments parts, you've done a nice job though!

Bolt-action phase rifle? Sweet! What about a crank/wind up version, like the laser musket in Fallout 4?

I'm intrigued to see what the medieval guys will look like with trencher legs and a bolt-action phase rifle...

morning all,

sorry for the radio silence recently. We've been in "stealth mode" recently due to Adam being on holiday, but hes back now and we've actually hired a new caster, this means we should have full stock, including most "out of stock" items, by the end of the month.

Im getting on with the CAD design for the Regiments Trencher release!

Here is something we actually launched a week or so ago,

Xenobane pump action shotguns!

and the Exterminator S.A.W is also available.

This is very exciting!! Still holding out for more Forge Ruins resin bases (because your bases are the best bases - the styles, the weight, the grippy surface on the underside... ) in 25, 32 and 40mm.

I know I know... You need to make new moulds and you have other stuff on the list... but please!!

Anvil Industry - August Final days: Medieval Mech Loyalty Reward + Civilian Disaster Response! @ 2016/11/11 08:22:18

Post by: Anvils Hammer

@Nuclear Mekanik -

At the moment, our most likely course of action with the base range is to withdraw all the remaining bases and replace them with an extended range of base topper styles and sizes (like our current Hyper City bases).

Its possible we will still offer them with the iron power mixed in to give them more weight, but we need to do some R&D.

We would probably do 3-4 different industrial/urban styles plus 2-3 other styles, depending on how much work it is to make each set.

Anvil Industry - August Final days: Medieval Mech Loyalty Reward + Civilian Disaster Response! @ 2016/11/11 11:26:25

Post by: Nuclear Mekanik

Thank you very much for the feedback!! Is there any reason why you are going for base toppers over complete bases? Just curious really. I prefer whole bases but I guess the toppers are easier to make and potentially cheaper to buy so maybe they will be more popular? I'll go back to gluing washers to the underside of my bases I appreciate your feedback and honesty because I am kind of holding out on a few back burner units I don't have resin bases for currently.

Thanks!!

The changes look good, but put back the lower jaw. What is not working with the full-jawed design is the teeth. They are slightly too big and unnaturally shaped. Slightly smaller (and more naturally shaped) teeth on both the upper and lower jaw ought to fix the odd look of the jaw/teeth.

Anvil Industry - August Final days: Medieval Mech Loyalty Reward + Civilian Disaster Response! @ 2016/11/11 13:29:41

Post by: Anvils Hammer

@Nuclear Mekanik

Base Toppers require less material, easier to make with a good finish and can be a bit more flexible in useage. And yes, likely cheaper!

Plastic bases already have a natural "lip" which holds to terrain better than a smooth resin underside, and our Texture undersides, while very cool, are also a pain to manufacture, which is why most of the bases have disappeared from the store over the past year.

@Shabbadoo-

I totally agree on all points. Whats most likely is Ill either do a full "skull" with lower jaw/teeth, or a more stylised skull (like the Punisher logo), or perhaps both options.. Ill see.

Evening all,

@NewTruthNeoMaxim - We don't currently offer a Quake Cannon, though we may do at some point. Likely not until next summer at the earliest which is when I expect to revamp the entire Exo-Lords range.

@Barzam - No we've not tried it, but Adam is going to bring some in from home and we will try out some conversions!

Work continues, admittedly rather slower than I'd like, on the Trenchers! Attached below the two basic weapon options which will be available (with attached fatigue arms), a Phase rifle based loosely on the M1 Carbine and similar rifles, and a combat shotgun bases on err.. pretty much all combat shotguns ever.

These are work in progress so any feedback very much welcome!

Post by: Nevelon

Both look cool.

My only concern would be that they look fairly similar. In zoomed renders, it’s easy to tell them apart, but at 28mm at arm’s length on the table-top, it might be kinda rough. They could both pass as shotguns.

Anvil Industry - August Final days: Medieval Mech Loyalty Reward + Civilian Disaster Response! @ 2016/11/15 18:57:53

Post by: Haighus

They look great, I like the phase rifle a lot.

I feel like the slanted las-muzzle on the phase rifle is enough to distinguish it from the shotgun. Las weapons have a very distinctive design in that regard which makes them stand out on the tabletop even if the rest of the weapon does not look much like a las weapon.

Morning all!

Thanks for the feedback, I will have another look at the guns tommorow and make some final tweaks. In the meanwhile I have officer heads to work on!

@Nevelon - Yes they do look similar. I will probably make a few tweaks so they end up more distinct, just for variety.

@Manus - Yes enough people have asked that we will offer the guns separately with no hands, though it will make them rather difficult to convert!

@Flubdugger - Yeah its 28mm heroic scale which when blown up huge on a screen, looks really chunky. It will look more normal once printed and correct size.

@Sierra1247 - I have plans for a bren soon.

I had no plans for an MG42, I wasnt familiar with it, but upon googling it, your suggestion activated the part of my brain that tends to uncontrollably drop everything else I had planned to design somthing cool... well done.. and see below, what do you think?

Thanks, I see the challenge, and if it was just hands I guess it would be alright, the problem start if arms are attached as well and interfere, with the stock. ANd I don't know if one really goes without the other?

@Manus - Yeah the arms will be attached, the separate versions for conversion will not feature any hands at all, so more for decoration/free style conversion/sculpting.

Looks like the new Trench Fighters will be available for Pre-Order next week, which is exciting!

Weapons/Arms only, for Conversions

and we also have a new no frills five man combat squad option, which a few people asked for.

I forgot to ask, a while back you had said that at some point you would release versions of the specialist weapons without the powerplant hookups and hoses. Any update on that? I mean, I'd be happy with just having the exact same parts, just minus the hose on the bottom of the weapon.

Morning guys (7.30am here, at my desk getting started on the CAD which needs completing)

Ill put up some full previews later when I've done the arms and finished the weapons.

@Barzam - yes the irregular parts will be suitable for chaos, but I imagine them more as veteran forces which have been in a war zone a long time and have been forced to improvise/scavenge a lot of kit and gear.
Alternatively they could be used with a mix of different leg styles to make a militia/criminal gang type force.

@MLaw - They all have pants (british meaning - underwear). For this wave Im doing long and short trench coats, plus some parade/dress uniform legs.

DO you mean you want a set of legs with a mixture of more civilian looking clothing? Its not planned, but would be reasonably easy to do at some point in the future.
The contractor wave is currently just going to be some head options, and the bare/rolled/short sleeve arms.

I'm thinking he means trousers, probably with regular shoes.

Looking at the Irregular some more, I'm getting a Lost Planet 2 vibe from him. He kind of reminds me of one of the Waysiders.

Yeah, trousers is what I meant. Something like jeans or slacks or .. anything that looks like civilian attire. Also, yeah Barzam is right, regular shoes or at least generic enough that it could go either way.
I mentioned hooded sweatshirts before too but really any type of civilian torso/arms. There's so many games that use survivors or militia, it would be nice to be able to piece some together.

I think we've had this conversation before and you said it wasn't in the immediate future but it seems like maybe there's room. Either way, sorry if I sound like a broken record and thanks again for being so accommodating.

Thanks guys!

@Barzam - I also redesigned the entire Stahlhelm to make it actualyl look like a Stahlhelm. I wasn't paying close attention to the reference images and the first version looked a bit like a fire fighters hat..

@Formerly Wu - I'm planning two new arms sets (contractor, and medieval) and each set will launch with all the different arm sprues - around 26 different poses ( I know because I ran out of letters to use) for each.

@MLaw - Yeah, its a good idea and something I would like to do, I agree there is a need for it.
The most likely outcome is a single sprue of civilian heads, civilian torsos, and one mixed leg set - 5 different poses, as thats a manageable amount of work.

We will probably make some sets up with mixed small arms and fatigue/bare arms.

My understanding was it was a tool to preview a build so people aren't waiting until their order arrives to figure out if it looked like they hoped. Many of the items in it do look like they're already released, I was just thinking it would be nice to be able to visualize any loadout we could order.

Morning all,

Thanks for the feedback on the viewer, we will be adding lots more features soon, including specialist weapons.

The intention is simply to provide an image of what a basic soldier looks like with a given load out of parts.
The rifle poses chosen are those which give the best view of the arms, torso and weapon.

The majority of parts there are our existing products.

There are 10 new Trencher Heads, 4 Trencher Torsos, 3 new leg styles and 2 new guns.

The leg styles will have the full 13 unique poses by the time I am finished with them, just like the existing sets.

The new arms are the "fatigue" style" but are cast as one piece with the guns (to allow the rifle stock instead of a pistol grip).

This means if you want to use either the Trencher Shotgun or Phase Carbine, you have to use fatigue arms, but there will still be 10 different arm poses for each gun, so lots of variety!

@Barzam - Yes There will be torso variants, the Winter coats will include some with more webbing. I'll be getting full renders of the final products released during the Pre-Order period (which hopefully starts later today- it was meant to be yesterday but technical difficulties..)

@MrFlutterPie - That's not currently a service we offer, but you can purchase quality miniatures from us..

So, to clarify my own confusion, the irregulars from this release are not the traitors/renegades mentioned in the "planned future releases" section of the Regiments page, right?

In a way, selling miniatures is sorta like having someones babies... Tiny resin babies...

Thats correct Jack,

The Irregular torso and heads in the Trench Fighters line up will be sprues with very ragged looking and varied/individual equipment, but nothing evil or traitorous.

The idea is to create militia or veteran units which have been in the field for months or years and have deviated significantly from whatever "uniform" they started off with.

The Traitors and Renegades will be a full line up of torsos, heads and guns positively dripping with pure evil. I'm hoping to do themed sets to suit various types of evil..

But thats a while away yet so I cant give any more info yet.

All he needs is an AK style rifle and this guy'd make a pretty good Snow Serpent. Glad to hear there'll be some torsos with more webbing for this type.

I want to play around with the finish on the jacket. I am thinking of a semi gloss finish to help give it a chemical suit vibe.

If GW doesn't do plastic trench fighters looks like this will be my best option. I've liked all of your guys stuff thus far. The commissar will the be the big factor in whether I pre-order or not.

Morning all,

@Ultimentra - I'm hoping to have a render of the Commissar up by mid next week.

In fact, I am hoping to have renders of all the finished parts including most of the poses, available before the end of the Pre-Order period, so anyone who is on the fence will be able to make a more informed choice.

@Mr FlutterPie - We are taking payment now. The earlier people pay, the nearer the front of the queue they are and the faster they get the stuff.
We dont want anyone to end up with models they don't like, so we will be happy to offer 100% no hassle refunds or make minor selection changes, after we have put up all the final renders.

@Stonned_Astartes - I was just editing to make it clearer when we realised there is actually no difference between the Cannon Fodder and the basic infantry squads.

To make it simpler, we've taken the option out and increased the max infantry squads to 10 - they get cheaper the more you add, ending a £2 per model, which is really incredible value for a multi part resin model. (fair when people are spending hundreds of pounds)

Oh and one more thing, as well as the Pre-order, its also....

I can't recommend the Tesla carbines, and Gothic Void torsos enough. They are great pieces. I also used the armored standard regiment arms and the (I think discontinued) regiment-sized mechanical/bionic legs. I think they said something about redoing that piece because their mold wore out. But yeah these pieces make really badass alternate Skitarii stuff.

Thanks very much if you've placed an order, and if you havnt yet, and would like to, you have less than 16 hours to take advantage of the sale.

BLACK OPS FRIDAY must end at midnight tonight (UK time)

@Ingtaer - Thanks very much for that detailed review, we appreciate it very much!

@Deadairis - EEEeeeeee!!

@Ultimentra - Yes we do check but I sometimes miss things or forget to reply - I am sorry! please send another message or PM me your facebook name so I can find it.

Adam in the studio is looking forward to assembling some gothic void torsos with the new Greatcoat legs, which is a particularly awesome looking combination.

We are also planning on doing some conversions using GW parts, as quite a few people have asked about compatibility with Skitarii!

@Dysartes and Manus -

Yes, the Trench Fighter Pre-Order is only through the Platoon builder.

When we do the general release in January, we will offer the parts in all the other custom sets and also separately.

I appreciate forcing a minimum purchase quantity on people for the Pre-order period is not ideal for you guys, but i felt it was necessary for us in order to ensure we can run the pre-order smoothly.

Based on our Kickstarter experience, there is all sorts of scope for delays and problems during design, manufacturing and shipping of significant number of new products, and my main goal is to make sure we get the stuff out on time, packed correctly, with our usual high quality. Placing a minimum quantity of 25 figures means we wont have quite so many pre-orders, but they will be larger and have the same parts for each figure in the set, so its a lot easier for us to pack them up.

It also means we can afford to be generous with freebies. As well as the free commissar character I am also planning to include some extra sprues of as yet unseen accessories.

On that note, I should probably get back to sculpting the commissar..

Several days work this one.. I really enjoyed it though!

Introducing the Commissar.

His interests include public speaking, slaying heretics, and literary criticism...

Four part model including separate head (compatible with any regiments head), and two left hand options - Ion Pistol and book of inspiring phrases.

This is the limited edition which will ship for free with Trencher Platoon Pre-orders, and then be show only.

BUT, we are going to make an option to purchase just this figure during the pre-order window, so people abroad can grab one even if they dont want an entire platoon of figures right now, and we are also going to be releasing another similar model (different pose and equipment options, but still a commissar) next year with the main Trench Fighter release.

Any feedback? Ive not set it up for printing yet so changes still possible.

I think it looks great, except I'm not a fan of the sword. It looks like it's trying to be a power sword and chainsword at the same time, but personally I think it seems odd, especially with the placement of the chain portion. IMHO it would look better with the same type of partial chain assembly near the tip instead of the base. As it is, I just feel like using that part of the weapon would be difficult and awkward.

Just my two cents.

I actually like the chainsword. It hits the goofy impracticality mixed with badassery that all good 40k-themed tech should.

This will definitely fit in with my commissar collection.

Anvil - A wee suggestion. His over coat seems a bit bare for his station. Would piping and epaulets be over the top?

Hmm. He's already got the frogging, so I'm not sure if piping and epaulets are really necessary. What he's missing though is his sash. Beyond that, he looks great. One can never have too many Commissars. He certainly looks better than GW's recent plastic Commissar.

I actually agree with this, it looks great except I would appreciate either a full chainsword or full power sword option. If you're looking for excuses to do more weapons, a power fist and power axe option would be great too.

Post by: Anvils Hammer

Morning all,

Thanks for all feedback - good to see some discussion!

The chain element is intended, as was mentioned, as a blade breaker or close up melee weapon for times when there is not enough space to swing the sword.

Impractical? Of course.. but its true purpose is to strike fear into his own side and it does that nicely..

@Mlaw, Barzam and others - I actually like having the model plainer. I did consider more decorative elements but it risked the model looking fussy.

Also - at the moment all the elements are based on historical references and are slightly more realistic than comparable GW miniatures based on the same historical themes.
I actually dont want to take design elements from GW's commissars (such as the sash) as those are very much their thing. The aim is always to offer a high quality alternative, not a straight copy, which would be rather dull to sculpt.

@Malika - thanks for that, it will be stuck in my head all day now.. :p

I've designed a large axe/trench hatchet as an alternative option, which he holds over his shoulder.. an option for people who dont like the sword, and also makes conversions with other weapons easier.

Hey Joel I have been looking at the platoon pre order for the trenches and I was wondering would it be possible to offer 3 head style options in it ?

I only ask as I would probably order a couple of platoons if I could get a mix of the three head options rather than just the two, this way there would be less repetition in the set and as a collector not a gamer this would be better for my needs.

Anvil Industry - August Final days: Medieval Mech Loyalty Reward + Civilian Disaster Response! @ 2016/12/01 14:07:39

@LDD -

Yeah, so long as its full sprues swapped in/out, you can list which sprues you want and how many in the "Platoon special requests" box, 3 styles no problem - It's only an issue if you wanted say.. lots of one particular head from one sprue.

We kept the available options limited to avoid over complicated the product page with a thousand drop down menues, and keep packing simpler for us.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I've started doing some new poses!

Here are a couple of figures with the first "aiming" arms, and two of the new Officer heads.

The Officer head sprue will be included for FREE will all pre orders.

Officer Head Sprue -

I've decided with all new head sprues to do 7 instead of 6, so 14 heads supplied with every 10 men, this means I can include more "interesting" options along side at least 5 normal looking ones, an the extra production cost is negligible.

Are there any size comparisons with Anvil minis vs newer GW human-sized stuff like Genestealer cults? I love the designs but the scale looks so weird in renders and photos, the heads and limbs look so big and thick even in comparison to GW heroic scale. Maybe if I could see a good photo comparison they would look better.

Anvil Industry - August Final days: Medieval Mech Loyalty Reward + Civilian Disaster Response! @ 2016/12/02 16:55:43

Post by: Anvils Hammer

@Kestral - Yeah the feet can often look over size in renders - and they are oversize in real life. Its the heroic scaling.

When the models are on the table and only 30mm tall, they look more correctly proportioned, the exagerated feet/hands/weapons helps make the models sturdier for gaming and also easier to paint, so generally more user friendly.

The regiments range is actually a little less heroically proportioned than a lot of GW's range.

@Mymearan - Got a Cadian sitting around somewhere? This image -

Might help - its shows the existing regiments parts right next to a Cadian. Ive not seen Genestealer cult up close, but I would assume they are broadly similar to Cadians.. We will buy a box and do some conversions..

The new stuff for the Trench Fighters is made to exactly the same scale/proportions as the regiments figure shown in the image above.

When I render them, they can end up on screen up to 10 times larger than real life, which makes them look a bit odd.

Compared to the closest competing product (style wise) Forgeworld Death Korp models are more realistically proportioned than our Regiments stuff, which makes them better for collectors/painters, but not so good for beginners and gamers (my own personal opinion)

@Mlaw - Yeah we are going to supply brass rod cut to the right lenght and filed down on the ends neatly - easier for everyone if we buy/prep the rod in bulk. Not everyone has brass rod and the correct tools to work with it.

Also a bit confused about how the heavy weapons work. I want to order 3 infantry squads and 2 heavy weapon squads, but the wording in the instructions makes it sound like you will replace infantry models with heavy weapons rather than just selecting them for the heavy weapon squads.

Fantastic stuff from Anvil lately. That 3D regiment designer is such a time-wasting rabbithole :p

I think that trumpet needs to be a lot less "heroic scale". Weapons and banners can get away with being rather chunky, but that trumpet feels very off to me.

Thanks, although I specifically asked for newer stuff because the plastic Cadians are such bad models and their proportions are a lot worse than newer humanoids.

You've never lived until you've played a PVC trumpet my friend.

It is big though.. like a lego accessory or something. However, it's an opportunity to convert it to be more grimdark. Wires and hoses and tubes coming out of it and fit the end with a speaker. It'll look like it was designed by John Blanche himself.

Morning all,

I'm sorry I've been so rubbish at replying on here lately. Things have been non stop busy since before Christmas!

Some really great painted figures here! I really appreciate everyone taking the time to put up photos!

----------

The Trench Fighter parts are making good progress through the stages of development.

The trumpet is finished, and is about half the bulk of the original sculpt, looks much nicer!

@Nostrodamus - I'm sorry I didnt catch your question about Heavy weapons in the pre order - I hope you were able to get it sorted ok, email me if you are unsure about what youve pre ordered.

Regarding timing, we are going to start shipping today or early next week, but only some of the orders which dont need the new legs or guns.

If your order contained the long greatcoats and Phase Carbines (by far the most popular choices) then they will start shipping in January and hopefully be fully shipped by mid Feb.

If you ordered short great coats or shotguns, those are coming up nexy but add a week or two before we can start shipping them.

Charlie and Daniel will be making and shipping pre orders while I am finishing off CAD sculpting and mold making.

I want to be done with the Trench Fighters as soon as possible so we can A.release them generally and B. get on with some new Afterlife models, but I never rush - quality always comes first.

I appreciate your patience!

An instant crowd favorite. Who is Bobby? sSe here: http://www.syfy.com/theexpanse/blog/the-expanse-bobbie-draper-first-look

The Anvil Industries Republic Pulse Mech is IMO the perfect look for MMC Goliath Power Armour. Bit beefier than the TV look!

Apologies for the lack of communication and the delay with the Pre-Order - No good excuse really - We dropped the ball a bit and it took longer than I anticipated - lessons learned for any future Pre-Order (if we use the format again).

We've not been updating Pre-Order statuses properly, but if you order contained anything except the short greatcoat legs, its on the way to you already. The Short Greatcoat legs are having a production mould made today or tommorow, and all remaining Trench Fighter Platoons will be shipping out next week.

Sorry for my abject failure recently keeping this thread up to date, I've been totally up to my neck working on the Trench Fighter Pre-order (now complete) and now.. some new components for the full launch of the range, which is provisionally pencilled in for next Wednesday, 15th of March.

We will be releasing all the stuff from the Pre-Order, plus in the Heavy Weapons line, a brand new Field Gun weapon mount with Howitzer and Maxim Gun options.

New Infantry support weapons include a Bren gun, MG-42 and M79 grenade launcher.

In total over 35 new products, which will be available as separate sprues, as well as part of our "build your own" squads and returning Platoon Builder.

Very exciting and busy few days ahead!

Hey Anvil.. a little suggestion. Could you sell a pack of the sandbags the same size and texture as the one on the MG? I ask because having one on the base, people will probably want to add more and there's no way they will be able to match up without more work than most people want to put on a sandbag. I realize it might take a while but I'm pretty sure they will sell.

If you're open to that, I would suggest a sprue with individuals and stacks of 2 or 3 high maybe 5 or 6 long and maybe a few more spares that are pouring out or have a map or compass or something on them (detail pieces). I would pay $5-$8 for a small pack (enough to do a few weapons teams) up to $10-$15 for enough to do a piece of scenery.

Anyway, I'm loving the look of the new releases. I think I saw a few previews floating around somewhere too. You're really killing it though. Fantastic work!

Morning all,

@Mlaw - absolutely - already planning pretty much what you describe, a pack of singles/doubles and some wall sections.

The one in the Maxim set had to be a specific size so it can fit under the "sitting" legs as well, Ill look at it in resin and might release sandbands in a couple of different sizes - its as easy as rescaling the print file.

@Ph34r - All these parts are already in production, so no further changes planned, but I think the helmet looks better at tabletop scale - when I blow the figures up in renders they always look rather cartoonish and oddly proportioned.

I've got the first resin Maxim gun to assemble, and some more examples to paint up. I will try to get some preview photos up later.

I have found this with a lot companies when you see a preview render it can throw some proportions off, that's why I think it is a good idea once you get to a stage with design where you are ready to print to then show a pre release print mini for actual real scale.

But to be honest I have always been happy with the models when they arrived, I did have a slight concern with one preview render once due to the helmet size (medieval) but when they arrived it was spot on, it was just the weird way renders work which can throw off the image.

I had a similar issue with Trench Fighters renders something seemed a little off with the render, but when I saw the printed mini previewed it looked good and more in proportion which was my original concern.

I'm loving the look of those new renders.

Will the interactive squad builder be expanded to include the other options in the custom squad options, such as shoulder pads or the special weapons? It would be very helpful for getting a feel for how designs including those parts would look.

Holy cow have you guys knocked it out of the park with this new line. So many "gothic WW1" lines are just DKoK knockoffs, but the variety and modularity you've set out here makes an explosive number of new Guard regiments possible. i know your probably busy as hell, but if you made some kits for imperial guard armour, like stowage, antenna, trench rails and track guards or something, that would be the perfect addition to your range imo,

Evening all!

Well that was a busy few days! The new Trench Fighters are available now!

All the parts are in the normal regiments categories and custom squad builders, but you can also see just the 40 new products by clicking HERE

@Haigus - Yes, We will be making a Mk.2 version of the Squad builder with lots of the missing options. Probably not until May now, as SALUTE Madness is upon us.

@Formerly Wu- Thanks very much. They are suitable for use in place of DKoK of course, but as you say - that's just one of hundreds of possibilities. There are actually over 100,000 unique combinations of parts (though some look rather odd).

Jungle Fighters/PMC's are the next release - aiming for late May/early June with those.

@STG - No such thing as overenthusiastic for conversion parts, especially where tanks are involved! Tank stowage is already on our list of stuff we would like to do. We also want to do turret hatches/tank crew which are Regiments compatible and work with popular plastic vehicle kits, plus some sponsor weaponry - several people have asked for a sponson maxim gun!

@Barzam - Capes would be great, but also fragile. Separate capes are a possibility, but more likely are some regiments models with legs, torso and cloak all as one component - much easier to cast and model with.

If you wanted to do some single piece trenchers with capes, I wouldn't be adverse to that. Call them Trencher Snipers or something. Separate capes like to Exo Lord ones would be fine, too. Victoria Miniatures had done some torsos with pre-attached capes, do you could also do something like those.

I put my order in last night, though. Looking forward to making some Gladiator Trench Raiders.

Thanks very much everyone!

@Barzam - Its on the way to you

@Sockwithaticket - glad you like them!

@Kodos - Hard to say, its not a massively clear artwork. I would advise, if you can, to wait for the planned Dress uniform release, which will include bear skin fur hats, Pickelhaube helmets with spikes, and a couple of new torso varients which may be more suitable for making soldiers similar to the artwork.
Unfortunately I cant give a good estimate as to when we will get around to releasing the mentioned parts.. We are rather swamped with work at the moment!
