Hey guys

I have picked up some Infinity stuff and thought I would start a blog. It's a new experience for me, the game seemed a little overwhelming at first but after some time spent on both this blog and the official one it is gradually starting to come into focus! As such, and as I haven't seen many other Infinity blogs around here, I thought it would be an idea to add observations about the rules and the game itself, and to chart my progress through it.

I had been told with Infinity that many of the factions are playable in different ways, and that there are no really poor troop options. In that sense I would be free to pick up models purely on how they looked, at least to begin with, and the chances are they wouldn't be a stinker that would spend all it's time on a shelf and never played!

To begin with, I opted for 'Haqqislam'. These guys are a somewhat different interpretation of Islam, their culture coming from the 'Golden age of science' that occurred in the middle east under the likes of Saladin - their directives aimed towards enlightenment of both philosophy and science. Basically, they aren't the biggest or strongest of factions, but they have some really cool elements - namely genetically altered troopers (who can get back up after being shot) and 'religious' fervor which means their troops won't run away! I've also picked up a Pan Oceania mini (just because it looked like something from the Manga Appleseed!) and also some Nomads, who are kindly referred to as dirty Space Pikeys ( ), a faction full of really cool different types of troops - they travel the galaxy on massive motherships, and have opted out of the shadowy AI computer system which runs much of the human sphere. I've also got some various 'non-combatant' miniatures from Antenociti's Workshop, as well as cool terrain pieces such as flying cars (just so I don't get bored).

Anyway! I recommend reading up on the website for anyone who is interesting in the background, in the meantime here are the first few minis I have painted!

First, Haqqislam Muyib

I've been really unadventurous with the first few minis in terms of paint scheme, just going for the official color scheme (basically, this is the equivalent of young kids who buy 40k AoBR and paint the marines as Ultramarines )

Muyib Info:
Role: All rounder, uses a rifle for longer range and a shotgun for close up damage. Good stats and has a pretty good chance of taking on most stuff in the game.
Cool stuff: Is 'V Religious' so will keep fighting even after your force has routed. Can lay mines (with this option) and also has the 'Dogged' ability which allows him to shrug off most wounds and keep shooting - although at the end of that phase he will succumb and go straight to the 'dead' state!

Hassassin Fiday

Enjoyed painting this guy, the level of details on some of these miniatures is absolutely stunning, and I have actually found a little difficult although also rewarding.

Fiday Info:
Role: An assassin! Infiltrate the enemy deployment zone, pick of isolated enemy troopers before melting back into the shadows
Cool stuff: This guy can walk up to enemy and slice them up with his excellent martial arts skills, if he hits (which is likely) his explosive blade will almost certainly kill them. He can pick up discarded weaponry from slain opponents and then use it. This guy is a common headache for opponents who don't create countermeasures for him.

Haqislam Ghulam

I'm the least pleased with this guy, think I really need to do some work on the skin (although it looks a little brighter in person).

Role: Most basic trooper, I will field this guy as a medic most likely.

Nomad Tomcat

The Nomad airborne cavalry! Really enjoyed painting him, although I'm hoping to use some brighter colours for the rest of the Nomads.

Role: A jump troop, so can enter the table from one side.
Cool Stuff: Has a machine gun/flamethrower weapon (Ripley from Aliens? ) and that missile launcher on his shoulder is a one shot fire and forget weapon. Can pack a nasty surprise in the reactive phase. Tomcats also have great agility and can move quickly over terrain.

That's it for now! I have some other stuff in the pipeline which I will hopefully add over the next few days. I am very much a beginner, so any C&C is welcome

Great start, loving the painting. I'm a Yu Jing player myself but most of the models for all factions are pretty awesome. As for weapons i'd recommend you get in some sniper rifles, HMGs and flamers. That'll keep your opponent on their toes!

I just love the Infinity minis, especially when beautifully painted like yours!

Thanks for the comments guys! Bloody hell this blogs section moves fast, I had to go down onto the 5th page to find this I thought it had been deleted!

Perkustin, the green is started from a Dark Angel green base, and then built up with snot green and bleached bone to the lighter colour. On some of the green, I also added a little graveyard earth just to take the sheen out of the Dark angel green paint, and give it a flatter finish.

Next up, I present

The Brand New Robo-buttock 9000 housework and shopping droid

Robo-buttock 9000 info
Role: Civilian robot
Cool stuff: Can wash dishes while simultaneously making cups of tea. Can provide spoilers for TV soap-operas and automatically neutralises offensive odours.

I got this robot as part of a 2 pack from Antenociti's 'G.O.T.' range. The model scales perfectly with Infinity, and was enjoyable to paint! Sadly, as detailed as Infinity's rules are, they haven't provided the ones I have listed above yet (perhaps in a future expansion? )

I intend to have a couple of civilian models for games, as well as security personnel and moving vehicles and the like. One of the awesome things about Infinity is that it represent two covert ops teams taking each other on, often in civilian areas. There is often no wider battle going on, so in the meantime people in the background can be just going on with their daily lives (until a thermoptic-camouflaged ninja appears in front of them! )

Next up, some more Haqqislam and hopefully the sniper-rifle wielding Lasiq.

Nice work pacific! Haven't seen that bot before, looks cool and would def make a great objective.

As for finding your blog, it's easier to go to your profile page and then look through threads started by yourself. I had the same prob when I first started.

Anyway, thanks for sharing, keep it coming!

Thanks for the comment!

Next up an actual playable mini for Haqqislam, the Lasiq Sniper. I really enjoyed painting this mini, I wanted to give her a slightly more muted paint job (to fit her position as sniper) while keeping it consistent with the rest of the Haqqislam guys I have done. Really I think it is a beautiful sculpt, I hope she performs well on the tabletop!

Lasiq Sniper info
Role: The long arm of the Assassins, the Lasiq play back-up to many Haqqislam operations where the more direct approach of a Fiday is not possible.
Cool Stuff: The obvious one first, bloody great big sniper rifle! Not only does it let you pick off opponents from extreme range, but it has special 'viral' ammo which bypasses standard armour and makes even heavy infantry extremely vulnerable. To give some idea, a trooper tries running between cover and within sight of her, and she has around a 90% hit chance at up to 3 feet away! She can scale up walls (even wait on the side of buildings and shoot), and her X-visor gives her a to hit bonus. Finally, although she doesn't have Thermoptic camouflage like some snipers, she has a photosensitive cloak that makes her harder to hit. Phew!

C&C welcome, next I will be working on something from the Nomad faction.

Hey guys, far too long since my last post, and in the meantime the thread had dropped to about page 3200!

But finally an update. One of the benefits of painting skirmish game miniatures is they fit well with my horrifically slow painting speed!

Next up the Maasai Hunter! A chance to use brighter colours for this mini, and to make a theme for the rest of the force with a brighter red and yellow. Apologies for the photos which aren't terribly good. The rubble base with the Pan Oceana head is a resin sculpted base from MicroArts (who I would thoroughly recommend for some characterful basing for Infinity).

Moran, Maasai Hunter
Role Descended from the proud tribal people of Africa, the Maasai found a home away from home amongst the Nomads. They are the hunters of the Nomad force, seeking out enemy infiltrators or acting as a forward observer for the rest of the force.
Cool Stuff Those little guys are called Crazy Koalas. Essentially, they are the cutest sentient explosive ever created! They can be placed by the Maasai hunter, and woe betide anyone who steps inside their area of effect - they will sprint directly towards anyone who comes into their area of effect, the victims final words probably being "Ohh, look aren't you cute!" Then BANG! If you aren't a big TAG, or wearing heavy armour, and you get hit by one of these then it's thankyou and goodnight
The hunter also carries a boarding shotgun, very effective at close range, has the ability to infiltrate an enemy position, is slightly camouflaged (by the .. erm... yellow cloak) and is very courageous which means he won't automatically duck into cover if he survives a weapon impact.

Next on the list, is the first 'medium infantry' (a bit more heavy armour) for Haqqislam, and then the infamous 'Cat doctor' for Nomads

Post by: Metsuri

The whole group looks great, the red and yellow work well together. The koalas get a bit lost against the bases, but cannot think of a way to solve that problem other than change the chasis color of koalas, which would break the color connection to the maasai.

The bases look good and fit well among the bases of the previous figs.

My Finite Infinity Blog - Latest: Sekban with Missile Launcher @ 2011/10/19 09:26:56

Post by: Northen

Looks great, always wanted to do some Infinity models myself.

Agree on Metsuri's comment about the koalas being lost on their bases. Maybe some non-grey colored debris there to help them stand out.

Thanks a lot for the comments guys!

I agree with Metsuri's comment, the Crazy Koalas do look a little lost against the bases. Really this was something I should have thought of before I decided on a colour scheme (and perhaps gone for a different shade of grey) before I started.

I have just finished a Djanbazan Medium Infantry for my Haqqislam force and will post that over the next couple of days!

Nice models Pacific!

I also got some of the models because of the anime influences, Appleseed is awesome as is Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Trying to stop myself making a Tachikoma...

My Finite Infinity Blog - Latest: Sekban with Missile Launcher @ 2011/10/27 11:08:14

Post by: Pacific

Yes I think so definitely! Part of the reason I chose Haqqislam was because of the Maghariba Guard, which looks a lot like the cool spider robot from Ghost in the Shell

Finally, another model finished!

This guy is a Haqqislam Djanbazan. This represents the first non-light infantry model (he is classed as medium infantry). Although he was enjoyable to paint, to be honest I think I may have been a little conservative with his paint scheme (he is a little bit boring I think!) so I may go back and add something more to him.

Haqqislam Djanbazan
Role: Haqqislam special forces, used to defend ports and shipping routes against pirates and smugglers. Haqqislam are at the pinnacle of bio-technology developments, and the Djanbazan has been subjected to a genetic engeneering therapy programme to give him a superior ability of stamina and recovery.
Cool stuff: An elite trooper with good armour, he has above average stats across the board. He has a multi-spectral visor (L2) which allows him to shoot unhindered in low visibility, and against camouflaged troops and those using optical disruption devices. The best thing however is his 'regeneration' skill which gives him a little more than 50% chance of getting up after being KO'd (think of the 'We'll be back' rule in 40k, although slightly more effective). He has a rifle and boarding shotgun loadout which makes him effective both close up and at range.

Next up, the infamous 'Cat doctor', where we go to the more Anime style of Infinity

Post by: endtransmission

While the painting is well done, he could do with some camo or unit markings to break up the solid green a bit.

I think every force wants to have Tachikoma... it's certainly a conversion that crossed my mind the first time I saw the Aleph Probot models

Nice, muted colors - I like it. You might want to do another highlight on the edges of the armor plates on the shoulders and arms, as the layered aspect of the armor is currently lost. Perhaps a bit of color to the lenses of the helmet to make his eyes pop a bit more. I would go with small changes like these as the main figure is looking great and fits among your Haqqislam.

My Finite Infinity Blog - Latest: Sekban with Missile Launcher @ 2011/10/28 14:09:34

Post by: Pacific

Thanks for the C&C guys, I am really trying to find my feet with these guys so anything at all is very helpful!

It's funny, after so many years of having to paint something in a particular colour scheme, of following an official suggestion, when I have been given the opportunity to do whatever strikes me I seem to have had a severe case of imagination failure! At the moment I've pretty much been following the official colour scheme, but I think for the next army I try (planning on it being Combined Army, the Alien faction) I might just go to town and try and be as original as possible!

So, following the suggestions, I will try to add a bit more highlighting to the green of the Djanbazan's armour, and perhaps a little bit of iconography if I can keep a steady enough hand! Also, some camo-pattern on his fatigues.

And rather than just have an otherwise empty post, here is some of the fantastic artwork that has been produced for the game!

Hey guys

Bit of a break since my last post as I have just moved back to the UK!

Next up, something from the more 'Anime' side of Infinity.

Daktaris, Nomad Doctor
The colour scheme for this mini was an attempt to tie in the Nomad red colour with a more obvious nurses uniform. The skin is a little more golden in real life than it appears in the photos.

Role Battlefield Medic. Why is she a cat person? That is not explained.

In Infinity, when a model is wounded beyond its wound allocation (i.e. reduced to 0 wounds) rather than being removed, it is lain down on the tabletop and in an 'unconscious' state. If a medic can get into base to base contact with it, they can then make a roll to try and revive the patient. Obviously there are some weapons that remove the possibility to do this (the likes of missiles, or the aforementioned Crazy Koalas which don't leave anything to revive), and the medic only has one chance to do it (failure represents the medic discovering that the 'unconscious' model is dead for instance).

Cool Stuff
She can control little remote robots called 'Zondbots'. These can be used instead of moving the doctor herself, they are faster and obviously disposable! These can also do the same function for engineers, I've bought a couple of them so will paint them up soon! Note also that red high-heels and a mini skirt are essential components for battlefield doctors.

Next up, some more Nomads, and I'm thinking of making an Infinity board (something which presents a new set of challenges).

C&C welcome!

From my experience Infinity has got an excellent conversion rate - most people watching it get drawn in to the game and want to try (I think the 'reaction' type rules are a big part of this), and the cheap price of starting an army means people are quite likely to give it a try. So, why not pick up a starter box for each (I have got a 3rd on the way, Combined Army ) and get some demo games going? You can even proxy forces with a mate just to get people to try it out, the rules are strong enough that they are a draw all by themselves.
I see you are in the 'RoW' territory as well, I was in the same position previously and is partly why I got into Infinity, the price you guys have to pay for GW miniature lines makes it even more of a no-brainer I think!

Aye, GW minis are a bit pricey, and Infinity looks pretty cheap to start, judging from the starter sets. It will also give us something to do with all our Cities of Death terrain

Probably will go with Haqqislam though. Your Hassassin Lasiqs and Muyib has convinced me. Looking forward to more.

Hey guys, sorry it has been so long! I recently moved back to the UK, so things have been a bit mental for a time.

One of the things I have been reminded of is how appalling the weather is here, and being too lazy to set up a lamp, I've been waiting quite a while for a sunny day to take some photos! I've also had the great new Sarissa systems Warehouse arrive, so for the time being this can be a background (hopefully painted soon!). I'm just putting the finishing touches to a board for Mordheim and FoW, but an Infinity future city is next on the list so hopefully there will be some photos of that in this blog as well.

So, for the time being

Ghulam Light infantry
Role:The absolutely bare bones, standard light infantry trooper of the Haqqislam force.

Cool stuff: Erm... looks slightly like (old) Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid, or in turn Snake Pliskin from Escape from New York?
He doesn't have a 'cube', the computer device that records a users 'self' in event of death. What practical effect does that have on the game? Very little, although there are some nasty weapons (mostly Combined Army, the alien faction) which can affect things that have a cube. This is one of the nastier ones, called a Sepsitor which allows the CA unit to control an enemy.. (http://infinitythegame.wikispot.org/Sepsitor)

The Ghulam's Statline
Just a short explanation of this guys stats, as there is not that much to write about the model itself I thought I would write a bit about how the game works for anyone who is interested!

This is how each unit's rules are presented (excluding weaponry)

They are:
MOV - I'll let you guess what this one is! Usual for light infantry, the 2 numbers represent the distance for each move order. In Infinity a unit can carry out 2 'small' orders, and 1 'large' (something that would be very time intensive). Heavier armour units will usually have a smaller unit for the 2nd number, while in turn something like a bike or TAG will have a higher first figure.
CC - Close Combat. Again quite normal, to hit you have to roll equal or under on a D20. To be honest, this is probably the least used stat in Infinity! This guy tries to run up to someone to stab them with that knife and they know he's coming, he will be swiss cheese before he even gets close (like in real life, as proven by that bit in Indiana Jones)
BS - Ballistic Skill, again this is normal.
PH - Physical. How 'tough' the unit is, again this is normal for an un-augmented human being. The Djanbazan (a genetically enhanced trooper shown earlier in the thread) is tougher and has an 11, an HI (Heavy Infantry) like the Janissary, coming later in the thread, has 14!
WIP - Willpower. This is where Haqqislam excel. There are numerous in game checks which require this, but perhaps most importantly it makes them very good doctors. This ties in with the background of the faction, whereby they are at the forefront of medical technology. Essentially if your doctor (or a little robot helper) comes across a KO'd unit, you roll a D20 and must score equal to or under that figure. If you consider a basic PanOceania fusilier medic has only WIP 12, that's a big difference. It means that Haqqislam can field a couple of medics at a very reasonable price and keep your already quite resilient troops on the field (until they step on a mine or get the attentions of a krazy koala! )
ARM - Armour, as you would expect looking at the guy he has practically nothing.
BTS - Bioshield, used for calculating effects of special weapons (virus mines or bullets, things like that). Again, not use often.
W- Wounds. Standard light infantry have 1 wound. First wounding hit they go down to KO status, 2nd one and it's goodnight sweet prince.
AVA - Availability. This means how many you can have in your force. As these guys are the meat and 2 veg of a Haqqislam force, you can have as many as you want!

Hope that is useful, if anyone is thinking of getting into Infinity and has some questions please fire away! I'm just learning things myself, but will offer what advice I can.

Next up, a model that will make some people cringe - I'll give a hint that it's a Nomad and involves a lollipop, should be up in a few days!

Another small update for now.

Nomad Moderator
Role: Just a bare bones infantry for the Nomads, armed with a combi-rifle (which is essentially the AK-47 of the Infinity world) and an... erm.. lolly pop.

Cool Stuff Why does she have a lolly-pop? Well who knows? But personally, I know there is nothing in the international wartime conventions which says that she shouldn't be able to stop and enjoy a sugary snack in the middle of a heated firefight!

A friend of mine is collecting a Pan Oceania force and takes wargames far too seriously. I look forward to the day when one of his hard-ass military looking types will come running around the corner and get turned into swiss-cheese by this miniature.

C&C very welcome, hopefully should be adding the first of my terrain over the next couple of days.

Nice thread here, it's making me wanna learn more about infinity. I've also bought some Haqqislam figures, mainly at random because I thought they looked cool and would be fun to paint. I also liked them because they had the least anime look to them.

As for the game itself, I don't think I'll ever play. I'm so far the only one to buy any Infinity minis at my FLGS and there's only one other interested person there. I'd basically have to drive over an hour to play a game, which doesn't seem worth it.

It also sounds like an extremely complex game, and being so busy painting, I can't really see myself investing significant time learning rules for a game no one plays...

But, I will enjoy the minis!

Nice clean painting on the Moderator. I think that the lollypop works great in the context of this game.

I like the clean armor you are doing for these figs, they bring out the minis really well. The red hair looks a bit flat in the pictures it might use another highlight. The belt and gun though are looking excellent.

Thanks mate, glad you are enjoying the thread!

TBH although it seems complex, the rules are actually very intuitive. Funnily enough, I've found them easier to explain to people who have had little or no experience of wargames, especially GW ones. Running a small demo game the other day, a lot of things the people come out with 'I want to throw myself flat behind this wall', 'I want to nail that guy as he runs between the buildings', 'can i fire my machine gun there to force him to keep his head down' - all of these things have rules within the game, and it's for that reason perhaps I found it so enjoyable compared to larger scale, non-skirmish games, where you have a lot stricter control in terms of what your models can actually do.

If no-one else plays at your club, there is nothing to stop you setting up a demo game just using proxies! Just chuck a bunch of terrain down and keep things simple, I would say even just 3 or 4 miniatures a side. It will give you a chance to get used to the game mechanics. From my experience, the moment someone actually plays the game they get addicted, and that's without even the correct models on the board! The game mechanics are really that strong. Veteran players will love the level of tactical decisions available.

Of course it's one of the cheapest games to get into, and that helps an awful lot. I would recommend something like the Beasts of War quick start guide, which you can easily print off and give to each player:
http://www.beastsofwar.com/wp-content/uploads/Infinity-QuickStartRules-V1.pdf

They also have a great collection of videos and tutorials http://www.beastsofwar.com/?cat=99&tag=content-tips-and-tactics

New update coming soon with some terrain!

Hey guys

Small update on some terrain I have done, some kind of hazardous chemical (aren't they always!) silo.

I'm hoping to make a mix of Industrial zone and habitation, with maybe a park or something just to make it a bit less bleak looking.

For this area I've been going for a slightly run-down look. I did toy with the idea of a spotless PanO/Appleseed style future city, but having things a little dirty gives me an easy way of disguising any shoddy work!

This was made simply from a CD tower. The refinery looking bits are from one of those plastic kits you sometimes see on ebay for about $15, I forget the name.

The hazard stripes are painted on, the small warning posters are from an extremely useful collection of images shrunken down and then printed onto photo paper.

The rust effect was achieved just using a mix of browns and oranges, and liberal use of shading ink throughout the model. Sadly the photo doesn't show some of the texture or dirt this model has (it looks a little less plain in person).

Looks like the Djanbazan is not alone!

I'm really hoping for some kind of situation in a game where a car crashes into it, and the driver is dissolved by the acid inside (like that bit from Robocop )

I'm currently putting the finishing touches to a Sarissa building (the warehouse), will post pics of that one soon!

Any C&C would be greatly appreciated!

It looks good

Perhaps a ladder or something on the side would be cool? Along with a few more valves and so on?

And the kit is an Urban War biotoxin plant - though I think you can get the same kit rebranded under several different companies.

Thanks for the comments guys! Thanks for the link SilverMk2, while it isn't the best kit it's pretty good for bodging things (I'm just toying with the idea of using some of it for a billboard for instance), so I may well pick up another.

First of all, some pics of a completed Sarissa Warehouse (posted a week ago or so in the news & rumour thread), with some detailed notes about it. In a sentence, great kit, easy to build and effective

I've made it as a Taxi garage/workshop for the Acontimento board I'm constructing at the moment. I've also got a 'sci-fi car' from Antenociti's workshop, which will be painted up as a taxi and can be placed in or around this warehouse (in fact it fits quite neatly on the driveway).

The entire kit is glued with the exception of the roof piece, which can be easily removed and then slotted back into place.

The control panel is a resin terrain piece from Antenociti's Workshop, you get 20 in a pack which is very reasonable. They come with a small array of screen designs which you can just cut out and stick on, I think they will be a great way of introducing a unifying element between terrain of different styles (this, MAS and scratch-built stuff)

As you can see, the etching on the panels shows through after spray painting. I added some detail of weathering, and the small warning signs dotted around it are printed from HubbaHubba's excellent poster sheet from his blog in the Arcologies section (on the Infinity Forums)

One of the great things about this kit is the doors are easy to remove or just keep in place. I've made both the front door back door so they can be opened/closed. I haven't finished it yet. but I've attached a small rare earth magnet to the other door, so it can be in closed/open position, and the front door/rear garage door.

I did toy with the idea of painting up the inside, having a garage ramp and workbenches etc. but a couple of things put me off. I think you will always need a level of abstraction from the game when constructing a gaming table, and nothing hits that home more than having badly scaled or incomplete internals of buildings. For the second reason, I think while this is achievable, it's more of a time issue. I would love to make a table with tiny tool racks and computer terminals inside, but have to balance this against getting a table full of terrain completed! I may come back to it.

Any C&C greatly appreciated!

I've almost finished the board I am constructing, will post more pics soon.

It's funny, your assassin looks almost exactly like how I painted mine... though mine's a bit more blue.

I'm glad that this series is starting to catch on, when I first saw the rulebook at my local store I bought it on a complete whim, just because the art looked interesting and I couldn't shake the Ghost in the Shell vibe. I haven't had a chance to really sit down and play the game, but I have this bad habit of picking up the miniatures just to paint them. The lithe, fast looking infiniti models are a nice break from the monsters of the GW universe.

There you go Pacific! Now we can compare and contrast our Hassassins. I really want to give terrain a shot, but I think I should focus on painting the models I have before tackling a gameboard. Knowing me I'll set my goals waaay too high on a board.

This may be jumping the gun since you haven't posted your table pics yet, but what size is the game board you're building?

Hey guys, a very quick update for now!

I have been busy with lots of different bits and pieces of terrain, but it's just getting around to photographing it (weather has been terrible around here - think my skin saw the sun for the first time in about 3 months today).

Here is a quick picture of the board, prior to it being tidied up.

The small green area was just to break up the grey a bit, and will be filled with trees and a little park bench I just bought (I now need to find a model of a granny, if anyone knows one! )

Nice 70's furniture by the way. ^.^

Haha thanks, you know I was wondering the other day about whether or not I needed some new furniture, think that answers the question!

I'll post some more pics of the board, plus the terrain I have built, over the next few days. C&C very welcome!

Haha yes, although the springs are starting to go so maybe that is another sign

OK a big terrain update! I've had some of this stuff done for a couple of weeks, but it was just a case of getting it all together for some photos. Any C&C at this point really appreciated!

First up, general pic of the stuff done so far. The bare area on the right will be a housing area, with some Micro Arts apartments, walkways and some scratch-built stuff. The area on the left will be an industrial area, Although I still have some other bits to add (crates, shipping containers, fencing etc.)

I think even in the future there will road works which will annoy motorists, for some reason even the construction-droid is inactive during the rush-hour! I did this partly as a practical way to put some cover onto the roads. The road blocks are from Antenociti's workshop, and the robot thing was from a bargain bin in Toys'r'us. The portaloo was from a terrain seller off ebay, who also did the park bench. I plan to include some traffic lights either end, and also perhaps I need some kind of big arctic truck to help block LOS.

Another silo, once again this one holds hazardous materials! Going on the feedback from the previous silo, this one has a ladder for access.

Modelled by a Robo-buttock 9000 droid, I'm going to use these trees in the residential area to help break up the grey a bit. It's made from a film container.

A billboard, the picture is a Russian advert for the Bruce Willis movie 'Surrogates', I used a quote from a really famous sci-fi movie for the other side (I'm sure someone can guess which!) This will line the side of the road between the residential and industrial areas, and I hope will help block snipers who are high up on either side.

Some phone boxes from Antenociti's Workshop. I think a really nice little kit, they come with small photos you can cut out to fit on the screens. I have a couple of these which will again go near the residential area.

While I was in South Korea, the massive apartment zones would often have these really small park areas (a few trees and maybe a bench). I think they were required by law to put them there. So, this is a reference to that, and also a way to help break up the grey on the board. I might put a couple of vending machines in there or something to help block LOS.

Finally! A kind of factory block, this was made from one of the many empty biscuit tins I still have lying around after Xmas. The fuel-rod things and air-con unit were from Antenociti again. Also, many thanks to Panzerkunst from the Infinity forums who did the wonderful Yu-Jing girl art, and 'Dog Bowl' posters. These are positioned around the back area of the factory, and I want to get a couple of skips to put next to it. I think the security camera was from a GW tank sprue. Again I've used the little door scanners to help tie the different bits of terrain together. I don't really have that much experience of the game yet, so I'm hoping the tower won't be too much of an advantage to someone climbing it, but the ladder is easily removable if this happens.

Any C&C will be greatly appreciated! Next up I want to do some stuff for the residential area (some apartment blocks) and also perhaps a few shipping containers, thanks a lot for reading if you got this far!

Pretty awesome

The only thing I would suggest is more crates/containers to scatter about, as well as perhaps some industrial vehicles (flat bed trucks, forklifts, tankers et).

I think if you can get some "holographic" advertising boards on the street of the residential area, that will help block LOS. Some street lamps with "holos" advertising things like banners will also help block LOS to and from the roofs.

Yeah, it's pretty industrial, so you could get away with lots of clutter from that. Boxes, crates, etc. I know there's a few companies that sell Cargo Boxes, and those things are perfect for stacking up for little mazes and corridors.

I find it surprisingly hard to find cheap stuff to use for terrain. I remember thiking I could go into a Toys'R'Us and snag a couple cheap construction sets or something and be good to go... but I got nothing!

Except a crane. I'm totally using that crane I found...

Yes this is the next thing I want to focus on mate. I've got a selection of crates, a At-43 shipping crate (sadly now worth more than their weight in gold, if you can find them!) which I'm using as a template to make my own shipping crates from foamboard. The crane sounds like a great idea as well!

One more pic I forgot to include, this is a 'sci-fi' car from Antenociti's Workshop, great little model I will probably pick up the hover-car at some point.

Oooooh pretty board! It looks like we're all going to be coming over to your house to play

I think my one comment about the buildings is that you've got dirt part way up the walls, but a nice clean line around the pavement. I'd suggest dirtying up the bottom rim of the biscuit tins as that's where most of the grime will accumulate. Other than that it's all fantastic stuff.

If you want cheap crates, ebay is your friend : http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=dust+tactics+crates&_sacat=See-All-Categories

The Dust Tactics crates are, I think, pretty much the same as the AT-43 ones and should be far more common.

Well if you check out a lot of Infinity game boards, they tend to be densely populated city-areas. Shipyards and warehouse districts packed with crates and machinery. Or spaceship interiors loaded with walkways, ramps, and halls.

I haven't seen too many 'blowed up' Infinity boards so far. I think it's as much of a statement to the game's design as it is to Pacific's motivation to 'do it right'.

He's doin' a bangup job.

Thanks a lot for the comments guys, just getting some other bits and pieces finished off now so should post them soon!

Chemical Cutthroat wrote:Traffic would be awesome. I don't know why I've never thought of that.

That's a great idea actually! One of the things about Infinity is that quite often the combat is taking place between 2 special-ops teams in a city, with people just going about their daily lives. So, people are sat in their office entering some invoices, then all of a sudden the windows get blown out and a Cutter materialises out of nowhere firing an HMG

So with that in mind I've been thinking about ways of making a 'dynamic' board, with other things happening around the battle while it is taking place

- Civilians: There are rules for these here (http://infinitythegame.wikispot.org/Rules_for_using_civvies). I've only done a single civilian droid at the moment, but hope to get half a dozen or so. They could be used in different ways, so just as part of the background (behaving normally, but with a penalty for killing them), hostage taking missions or kidknapping etc. My mate collects Combined Army (the 'Alien' race) and we thought it would be fun to have some kind of 'X-com' style game. The CA have to try and kill as many civilians as possible, with the human special-ops team trying to defend them!

- Interactive terrain: Hackable elements of scenery, such as the 'construction droid' or forklifts/vehicles, some doors can be opened/closed in that way if they are locked etc. Rules for how civilian vehicles behave (in a similar way to the civilian rules - do they stop, try and race away or even try and run over the unit that inadvertently shot at them?!) I was going to get one of Antenociti's flying cars - I thought it would be awesome if a unit could jump from a rooftop onto the roof of the car, using it as a stepping stone. But, if you were driving that car, and the roof suddenly dented with a big weight landing on it, what would you do? Jump out, or maybe drive off at full speed?

- Security forces. Breaking into that factory, because you want a good overwatch position from the roof, but what if there is a security droid inside? Or, If 2 special ops teams started blowing the bejesus out of each other in a future city, someone will call 911 and of course the SWAT or armed police would come! Perhaps just a couple of these guys (from Antenociti's)

Or, if the battle went on, eventually the heavy cavalry turn up (like getting 6-stars in GTA ) I think these guys would look great in more obvious white/blue police colours.

Have to think of some more ideas, if anyone can think of anything else that might be cool please let me know!

News droids (little hover bots for example)?

I like the idea of security - I was reading a book recently where a military team teleported into the middle of a city below them to escape the orbital battle that was going on at the time and because of the complete disconnect between the military and the civilians (military were purpose grown/reproduced humans raised, trained and "stored" (cryogenically) separate from civilians and were less than human in the eyes of normal people, with the civilians fed lies and propaganda about how well the war was going in far off space), the civilians were like "WTF? What are you doing here? Go away!" and called the police on them

Other than that, you might find cleaner bots in the commercial/upper scale areas.

I like the idea of getting "six stars" a la GTA!

In fact, I like all those ideas. I'm willing to bet it'd be easy to write a simple "AI" for any security units that they can follow, like the monsters from the D'n'D boardgames. The trick would be to keep their turns brief but meaningful- so they are a threat, don't take up too much valuable play time.

Thanks very much for the comments and suggestions guys, it is really appreciated!

@SilverMK2 - thanks, Cleaner bots is a great idea! I need to try and modify a droid so that it is using a vacuum cleaner If you want to sneak in and use my board, I'm generally away at weekends!

@Da Boss - yes I hope so too, just some simple rules that will add some individual character to games.

If someone can suggest how to make flying holographic billboards I would be keen to try!

OK! Have made some more terrain, no big stuff this time but some smaller bits and pieces to help fill out the areas in between.

First up some die-cast vehicles, a digger to set up with the road works and a fork lift (which I felt obliged to get because of all the fork lift warning signs!)

These were bought from a company called Siku, they are 1/50 scale (which is more or less perfect for non-heroically scaled 28mm) and cost about £5-6 each. I just added a bit of rust and dirt so they fit in better with the rest of the terrain.

This idea was stolen from someone on the Infinity Forums, some shipping crates carrying a fresh shipment of new delicious food-stuffs to Acontimento

These were made from foamboard, with corrugated plasticard places on each surface, and lolli-pop sticks at the end for the doors. The signs/logo were a design printed onto normal printer paper, by making them really soggy with wet PVA I was able to get the corrugated surface show through, so it looks more like a something printed onto the surface rather than a sign. In terms of scale (sorry the modelling droid had a day off today!), they are about 55mm in height.

Crates carrying the latest copies of Combat Cartridge for the Atari 260,000

These were bought from Antenociti's Workshop, as part of their sci-fi building range. Again the Atari logo was just printed onto normal paper.

Advertising holo-boards:

These are a new release from Micro Arts Studio. The bases are made from wood with perspex for the adverts. I think these things are great! Very easy to assemble, and reasonably priced at £10 for 3 adverts. They were simply painted by spray-painting white (the grooves will still show underneath). These are the first part of the residential zone I will be building.

Some random crates/shipping container:

The Infinity universe is home to hundreds of millions of the mysterious 'U.N.A.' companies shipping containers. What is inside them? (You seem to see these things on every Infinity board, shame they are so expensive these days now that AT-43 is not being made any more).
The crates were again from Antenociti's Workshop, I just added a small bit of weathering/dirt.

Finally, some counters/tokens I made:

I did want to get some of the really cool looking (clear perspex) tokens from Micro Arts. But, they are a little expensive, and I don't think terribly well organised (you need to buy multiple packs to have enough to cover the different eventualities of a game). So, I made some myself.

Quick tutorial
- Print directly from the PDF on the Infinity Downloads section (http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/downloads/markers/[en]Markers.pdf)
onto glossy photo paper, or something similar (doesn't matter if you don't have this, but I think it just looks better).
- Get some Mantic Warpath round bases. I already had some lying around, but you can get 10 for £1.50 (http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Paints-and-Hobby/Bags-Bases-and-Cases/Bases/Product/Mantic-Bases-25mm-Round.html)
The printed off tokens fit perfectly onto the bases. GW bases are slightly too small, although I'm sure you could adjust the print scale by 15% or so.
- Use the money saved to buy the new Merovingian starter pack.

That's it for now. Tried out a first game on the board the other night, my Haqqislam against a friends Yu-Jing Japanese Sectorial. Sadly, I still have nothing like enough cover - the Lasiq with sniper rifle dominated the game, got to the top of the Taxi garage and then it was a shooting gallery for the poor Japanese trying to get into range to use their chain rifles and boarding shotguns.

So, next up I really need some terrain to help block the road, but at the same time not ruin the overall look of the board. I will hopefully get a couple of 1/50 scale arctic-trucks and then 'sci-fi' them up a bit, although I've looked in a model shop and didn't realise how bloody expensive the things are! I must find cheaper alternatives.

I've also got some barbed wire fencing I am building (for the industrial compound) and next will get a couple of buildings done for the residential zone. I've already got a Micro Arts apartment building, and hope to build some other stuff as well. Hopefully not too long for another update!

As always any C&C is greatly appreciated.

Really nice looking stuff here. BTW I finally played Infinity, 2 games so far with my Haqqislam and I love the game! It's really fun and quite brutal.

My Tuareg sniper has kicked quite a lot of ass, but I also liked how even the lowly ghulam could become a hero and save the day.

That board you have is really cool looking, I wish we had scenery that nice to play on at the FLGS.

Well, find an advert/picture you like and print it out onto OHP plastic/paper and add it into a cut out card frame... then put on a thin but stiff wire?

This idea was stolen from someone on the Infinity Forums, some shipping crates carrying a fresh shipment of new delicious food-stuffs to Acontimento

Nom nom nom

Think I might steal this idea for crates, though I would use some corrugated card for the sides rather than plasticard.

If you still want some clear tokens, try contacting the guys at WarMill - though I have to say they are normally good at getting back to you, I contacted them both on here and by email a couple of weeks ago and they have still not gotten back to me :(

Some of those over-the road signs (like motor way signs) might help break up LOS from/to roofs without blocking the roads themselves...

Thanks a lot for the comments guys (and punk-rock girl! )

This is one of the Micro Arts 'District-5' Apartment buildings. Painted very simply, I just want to try and get this board finished now:

I've attached blue perspex on the inside of all windows, as well as a little weathering, to try and make it look a little more realistic. Also the door panel from Antenociti's workshop is on both sides (again I have these on all buildings to help try and pull the design of different building styles together). The writing on the side is again referenced from the big apartment blocks in Korea which have similar branding on the side of them (usually the company that financed the building of the complex). In this case it says 'Daewoo', who in the Infinity Universe have since separated and then bought GM. ^^

But, even in the cleaner and more expensive residential areas, disaffected youth still do graffiti around the back of buildings, away from the eyes of security guards:

Grafitti was done by just printing onto paper, thinning the paper as much as possible so it looks as though it has been drawn directly onto the wall. The other posters are just searches of random pictures on google, shrunk down in size.

Finally, higher view of the building

I have deliberately gone for much cleaner, brighter colour with this building. I'm planning on having 2 areas of the board - the more dirty grey colours of the industrial area, with cleaner whites for the residential area. I will have some more plant/green areas in-between apartment areas, to again make it look brighter while also adding some more of the all-important LOS blocking terrain, and some pavements leading between them. The doors for the building are all on 'tabs' and can be easily pushed into place or removed.

Overall I would definitely give the Micro Arts kit a thorough recommendation. Very easy to assemble (as long as you do a 'dry run' of assembling without glue first), not the cheapest kit but I think just a couple of these will make a great centre-piece to a board. They also look to be quite easily customisable, so I might get a little more adventurous with the next one!

Next up, I've got hold of some 'O-Gauge' fencing to finish off the Industrial area, and some plastic aquarium plants to add some more colour to the board in the residential area.

Any C&C very welcome!

For cheap vehicles scour the 1 buck shops and such. (be it euro, pound, dollar, yen or Zlotti )
Occasionally you can find real beautis there. with a bit of paint and some spare parts you can sci-fi up anything.
Keep it up!

Damn, you've sold me on the Micro-arts stuff.

They look great for solid, playable terrain. I'm going to have to place an order next paycheck. Still want those billboards.

The nice, clean, awesome look of everything is definitely awesome. I was planning a sort of slummish, Ghost in the Shell (Original movie) sort of feel to my board when I start it, but this has me leaning the other way. Nice job Pacific.

Thanks Soncka, well the good thing is that all in all the board has not been that expensive! It's amazing the household items you can find to use with a little work. I would say in total (wood, paints, kits, everything) will come to less than £100. Considering the cheap price of an Infinity force I think it is something that is definitely worth the investment. Eventually I will even be able to sub in some different terrain so the board will be usable for stuff like Necromunda for instance.

Anyway! I have not been idle and have some other stuff to show soon. For now, got this in the post today:

Got a really good deal on it, £11 for a 1/50 scale diecast truck which scales just about perfectly for Infinity (I am always shocked by how much these things sell for - sometime £50-£60 or more!)
I have to sci-fi it up now, it will do a lot to dispel the 'future' aesthetic of the board as it is so definitely needs some work.

Any suggestions for a big logo on the side, perhaps a company name ?

Given that Daewoo sponsored the building of your housing; could you make it a Daewoo delivery truck and assume that they also own the factories?

Oh. How do you go about thinning paper?

My Finite Infinity Blog - Latest: Sekban with Missile Launcher @ 2012/04/13 16:49:27

Post by: Pacific

That's a great idea actually! Might change the truck manufacturer from Scania to Daewoo in any case

For 'thinning' the paper, I just used a lot of watered down PVA when gluing it. You just have to be very careful not to rip it or use too much water and end up turning it into a sodden mess.
I will probably try it with this truck, albeit with photo paper to give a shinier look.

In terms of sci-fi-ing your truck, you could try "streamlining" the whole thing, adding skirts to the trailer, etc?

Thanks for the comments guys! I had to take a short hiatus while I finished off an FoW army (and gave myself eye-strain painting 15mm guys!)

After attending the Infinity day at Cut'n'Thrust in Bristol I'm really up for getting the rest of my Infinity terrain and models finished!

@Spartan059 - Yes sure mate, it was very straightforward actually! Just a spray of white paint, then dirtied it up with some browns and devlan mud. The grafitti was just a design printed off the computer. Actually, after seeing some of IDJ's terrain on Saturday I might add a few more bits: Namely some little pot plants, and some other 'accessories'.

@Casey's Law - Cheers! The truck is next on the list actually, been putting it off as I know it's not going to be straightforward

@SilverMK2 - Thanks I like the idea of adding a side-skirt! I wish there was a model of that supply truck..

OK! Next up a couple of other bits of terrain I finished but didn't get around to photographing:

Some plants, to go in-between the apartment blocks of the residential area. I'll have some paving to go around these as well.

The white troughs are electrical junction boxes, and the plants are aquarium plants bought very cheaply off ebay! I think with the bright colours they have a nice alien look, and help add a bit of contrast on the board with the white and grey.

Finally, some fencing to go around the industrial areas. I will probably cut some holes in them so they don't act as a barrier to movement.

These are model railway 'O' gauge fences, mounted on to thin strips of wood. The signs are printed off of a computer.

Any questions or C&C very welcome, hopefully get the truck finished next and then move on to the rest of the residential area!

Thanks mate! No I live in Cheltenham, about 45 minutes away down the motorway so I just went down there for the afternoon.

Do you know Cut & Thrust? I was really hoping they would start to stock a reasonable amount of Infinity (they only have a couple of the older starter sets), because as far as I know there is nowhere in the South West that stocks the stuff. Mail order is all well and good but I love to have a browse from time to time and make an impulse purchase!

I've asked them a couple of times on their forum, and even said "look I've got a couple of mates who want to get into the game as well, so we will buy some stuff" but nothing appears to be forthcoming which is a shame really.

Ah right fair enough.

Unfortunately they dont stock to great a range no :( After a few chats with Alex Kolodotschko the store owner i believe its something to do with not having a reliable enough customer base to have a load of stock in and guarantee it selling. Which is a shame really

That said, it has only been stocked there since around christmas. Thats when infinity started hitting the bristol scene, so its still very new atm.

Hey mate, well hopefully if the upcoming event next weekend goes well it might get them to change their minds? As it is IJW sold some stuff on the previous event days, and I think the fact that there is not a single bricks & mortar stockist in the entire South West (as far as I know) should mean that it would be a bit of a goldmine! Of course internet shopping is OK most of the time, but I really think the minis should be up on display and in the shop as well, even if it's just a selection of the more popular lines. I think there is the possibility there of making Cut & Thrust basically the 'Infinity hub' of the area, and a place where guys on the various forums can meet up to play.

Speaking of which, are you planning on going to the event at Cut & Thrust on the 27th?

Just in the process of finishing off sci-fying (new verb! ) the truck, but in the meantime I've just painted up another Ghulam, who is just armed and armoured in a standard manner. She is also modelling some flower pots which will go on the apartment building, just to make it look a bit more interesting (thanks to IJW for that idea! )

Just working on a Djanbazan hacker now as well, an absolutely beautiful little sculpt. I love the feeling of starting on one of these new models, it's like each one is a character piece and a little project in its own right.

C&C very welcome!

Those plants and fences are really nice. So are the pots, are they scratch built or some kind of bit?
I quite like the Ghulam's rifle, too. Spectacular work, as always.

Also; big thanks for sharing your recipe for the apartment building. I have one on the way to me right now, and now I'll be slightly more confident when I'm holding it.

My Finite Infinity Blog - Latest: Sekban with Missile Launcher @ 2012/06/13 12:58:28

Thanks a lot for the comments guys!

@Soncka - thanks mate! The flower pots are just bits from one of those old 'terran refinery' plastic kits that you sometimes see on ebay for about £15 or so. I don't think they are useful by themselves, but they are very good for adding bits to other terrain if you want to scratchbuild.

Had a great time at the Infinity Road Show (organised by IJW) - I didn't use my own stuff, but played some demo games with IJW's stuff. Really helped to clear up a few of the rules I wasn't sure about - so if you get the chance to go to some others (I believe there are more planned for this month) I would definitely recommend it!

I've been a little idle recently buy have just finished off another miniature and some terrain. First of all, a Djanbazan Hacker. She is an essential in the force, as with her 'Multi-spectral visor' she can see through the likes of smoke and optical disruption devices (a must, as a friend of mine has just got about 6 models which have that feature!)

She is standing on a Micro-Arts base, which I hope makes the model look more like she is picking her way across uneven ground, rather than walking down a cat-walk!
I did try and make the tin can on the base a Heinz Baked Beans can, but gave up on the logo. So, instead it became a future jumbo sized Cola - in the future, the minimum size you can buy will be a 1ltr can

Next up, the Truck - a way of blocking LOS on the roads of my board. I did try and sci-fi' it up a bit, I don't think entirely successfully. I might go back to it, and perhaps put some kind of molded plastic over the entire front truck engine itself.

I got the artwork from various sites around the net, and just printed onto a thick photo-card.

The future of robotics. But, which company could design this kind of stuff?

In the future, road safety officials suddenly realised that about 98% of highway/motorway accidents were caused by HGV,s so made them all automated!

Next up, I have an idea for some new terrain, which I hope will be cool for fans of Blade Runner (just a hint! ) I've also just started some more Nomad models.

Any C&C is greatly appreciated!

Of all things I am probably least pleased with the truck right now, it stands out a little bit amongst the rest of the terrain, but will do for now until I can get the rest of the board finished.

I know what you mean mate! My 'to do' pile grows regularly, and I've now taken to just buying stuff because it looks good, rather than having any actual plan of using it!

Da Boss wrote:Any chance of a whole board shot with the fences, plants and truck? I'm trying to visualise the effect the extra colour will have on the already lovely board.

Thanks mate! Yes I will try and do a complete table shot soon. I'm hopefully having some games this weekend so might well combine them with a battle report.

hahli87942 wrote:Cool work! like all of it but really love the scratch built buildings

Yes I have just bought those models, and have to say they are absolutely beautiful little sculpts. Each one is like its own little character piece.

Next up, just some little extra accessories to go around the back of the 'factory' style building (the one with the big funnel). I want to try and make a contrast between the cleaner, residential area of the city, and the more dirty industrial area.

So a couple of skips, which I made while I'm waiting for another Micro Arts Apartment building to arrive. Modelled here by Snake Plisskin, who is 19, from California, and enjoys surfing, smoking and sneaking up on people in his spare time.

These are built just using some plasticard, and took about half an hour or so to make and then the same again to paint. Some nerd points to anyone who can recognise the little things I have put in there as 'trash'

Any C&C very welcome! I hope to have some more building, mini and maybe even battle report pics on here soon!

Here are some pics of the board in action, playing my friends Aleph with my Haqqislam tonight. As you can see, the board is nearing completion - a few more buildings to add, some paving, things like that. I might also make some pannelling that can cover the roads, just to add some variation to the set-up.

Sorry pictures are a bit poor as they were taken with my phone, will add some more soon!

We used the 'YAMS' mission cards for the game. Despite me wiping out the Aleph, he had completed more objectives than me and so won a hard fought game! Stars of the match were the Janissary, who had many shots bounce from his armour and critted an Aleph sniper as she was climbing the tower (I would have most likely been screwed if she had made it!) and also the Lasiq sniper who killed a couple of the very hard to kill Myrmidons.

We also had our first ever close combats - the Myrmidon officer making short work of my Djanbazan, using her close combat skills to knock him to the floor and administer the coup de grace. But, she tried the same thing with my heavy infantry Jannissary and got the butt of an HMG to the face for her troubles!

Great fun though, I will try and take some more battle pics next time (hopefully with a completed board!)

Wow that's some incredible looking Infinity terrain. Makes me almost want to start looking into this game system.

One suggestion for the trailer truck if you want to make it more sci-fi is to run plastic card along the bottom of the trailer to cover up most of the wheels giving it a more streamline appearance.

My Finite Infinity Blog - Latest: Sekban with Missile Launcher @ 2012/07/08 00:46:48

Thanks for the comments guys!

@spyguyyoda - Yes it is probably about 6 months on and off, getting distracted by other stuff in the meantime and coming back to it. I've got some more buildings, as well as some 'electronic' terrain (which may or may not work!), and then just a couple of other bits and pieces, then it will finally be finished (in time to start on another board... )

@Eggroll - Thanks again, and that is a really good idea with the truck. I've just got some more plasticard that might be suitable, so I'll make a rim over the wheels and see how it turns out. If you do want to get into the game and need some advice, let me know! I've not been long into myself and so am only just picking up the system, but have to say am really enjoying it so far.

Thanks a lot for the comments guys! Yes I agree Hindenburg, some of the Nomad designs are top-notch! I like the way you can use multiple styles and models, even within the same Nomad force. At present I'm going mostly for the sleeker, military look models (Tomcats/Hellcats etc.) but I'm really looking forward to trying some of the more zany miniatures - Morlocks, Uberfallkommando (and possibly a TAG ) for a real 'Manga' style force.

Yellowblades, the plants are aquarium plastic plants that I bought from ebay. Very cheap, if you spend a bit of time looking I got a bag of them for about £6-7. The board was looking a little bit drab and grey, so they were an attempt to combat that.

Just putting some more buildings together at the moment, so hopefully should post some more pics over the next few days!

Bit of a larger update today!

First of all, some further pictures of the board which is now 85% complete or so:

Over the next few weeks I hope to add a walkway, another building (or two), and some wooden slats that can be inserted into the roads. While the roads seemed like a nice idea when I was making the board, they are rather forcing in terms of the terrain set-ups, and mean that every game we end up with a 'face off' between opposite sides of the road and a few brave souls trying to cross it! So, I'm just going to get some planks of wood painted grey and that will allow us to swap round the road sections each game.

OK, on to the Battle Report pics!

Background to the battle
The city of Usbad on Acontencimento, a colony first formed a little more than fifty years ago. Primarily comprised of industrial and residential sectors, both Haqqislam and Aleph agents have moved into place in the early hours of the morning. The streets are deserted, last nights drunkards having since passed to their beds, and the morning work rotor not yet starting their shift, and an eerie silence passes over the city...

The set-up/game
For this game, we used the YAMS mission system. This is a really cool card-based mission system by IJW of the official forums and Wargaming Trader website, you can download them from here: http://wargamingtrader.com/downloads
Essentially you just pick 6 cards from the pack, and then discard the 3 you don't want. These are then kept secret from your opponent, who must try and guess what missions you are trying to fulfil and plan accordingly!

The forces
Part of my opponent's Aleph force, which he is currently working through.

And a team shot of my Haqqislam, now running to about 250pts.

Part of the missions in the game involved using a civilian. As we haven't yet painted up enough random civilians to be used around the board, for this game the civilian took the form of a LARPer, who happened to be passing through the area after a long night of ale drinking with some dwarf friends in Aconcentimento's obligatory Irish bar! Waiting for a taxi, he couldn't realise that two special-ops teams were moving into position around him..

The Game starts
I set up with a strong presence in the middle of the board. One of my Ghulam (a basic light infantry) was lain down on the top of this hazardous material containers, covering the centre of the board.

However, her part in the battle was short lived! A Naga sniper, concealed by thermo-optic camouflage on a building in the centre of the table, popped up and shot her! The Naga then proceeded to kill my own Lasiq sniper who had been covering the centre of the board but wasn't well enough concealed behind cover. This was a massive bummer, as possibly my most dangerous unit had been killed in the opening turn of the game!

Both teams engage..
I was now in a real problem. I'd lost my most powerful unit, and the Naga with sniper rifle was in a prime position to completely stop my movement.

The Janissary heavy armour unit, bleeped his response to orders, and moved around the corner to kill the Naga sniper. Unfortunately, she was the most recently painted unit on the Aleph side, making it a certainty that she would be the first to fall!

The battle continued, and I started getting my ass kicked thoroughly so I forgot to take any photos! Here is a quick summary:
- The Aleph Assura is as hard as nails.. armour 5 and 2 wounds (with 'no wound incapacitation') meant she was halfway between a TAG and a normal person. My Muyib with his AK47 replica only made her laugh in a loud robotic voice as his shots pinged off her armour.
- Both sides continued to move into the centre of the board, with no real opportunity to shoot each other now that both snipers were dead.

Then the decisive move of the game - A garuda tac-bot used his air-drop skill to come in behind my forces.

Summary for the rest of the game - it proceeded to kill everything! As we were both fairly noobish with the game, we are both introducing new ideas and units in each game. This game was therefore a lesson in why Air drop units armed with HMG's are dangerous, and why you should at least have some units covering their arrival! I didn't realise at the time, but I could have used my Djanbazan hacker to help stop its arrival, but instead she just stood staring at the side of a shipping crate until she got drilled in the back by a machine gun..

Leiutenant Snake Plisskin attempted to leave the building, during the Haqqislam retreat, but he too fell victim to the Tac-bot.

Here are a couple of shots from the rest of the game. There was one entertaining bit where the Assassin Fiday was holed up in the factory building, he left the building but was surrounded on all sides by the Aleph forces who closed the noose..

Knowing that his shooting weapons couldn't really hurt the Asura, disguised as a Robo-buttock 9000 he left the building and approached the Asura and Naga hacker who was positioned near the portaloo..

But, the Aleph were not fooled, and the Assassin was gunned down as he made a final and ultimately suicidal charge towards the Aleph !

Thoughts on the Game
I always think it speaks volumes about a game when you can essentially get a pasting but still enjoy it! This game was a lesson in the usefulness of 'Air drop' units, and specifically how you need to defend against them (or at least use your own ), as the Garuda tac-bot essentially won the game by killing at least half of my team without them really able to do anything, except turn around and say.. "wha... ?" before being ignominiously gunned down.

Next up, I will probably have to paint up some more Haqqislam to get them up to 300 pts, and also some more terrain and Nomads. When the board is completely finished I will try and write up a proper battle report with maps and a full description of everything happening!

Any C&C very welcome!

Poor LARPer. Haha.
Nice Batrep, looks like you had fun. And if it makes you feel any better I've so far won ONE Infinity game. Out of probably close to a dozen. I'm having a hard time adjusting to the tactical mindset of this game. Everytime you encounter something new, like viral ammo or AD in this case it tends to go tits up and you get slaughtered.

And looking at your table really makes me torn between doing a nice futuristic white or a rundown Bladerunner aestethic for my own!

Yes it's very difficult to choose an overall aesthetic for a board! I'm trying to get a balance between futuristic, but also so that it looks like it is used. Indeed, kind of like something from Blade Runner, but not that bad

On the other hand, my friend is making an Aleph-themed board, and is going for the much cleaner, futuristic look (almost like a 'med bay' kind of style).

Sorry it has been so long since I last posted, but a couple of updates!

First up, some smoke cannisters:

Now that I have started playing games, this is one of the more useful things to have. When someone throws a smoke grenade now, we will use one of these rather than having to have a template balanced awkwardly on the surface. This was simply some cotton wool with some varnish/spray (to make it more solid), on some resin bases.

Detail of the side of a new building:

Going for just 2-floor apartments, I've managed to stretch 2 MAS apartment kits into 3 buildings! Anyone looking closely will realise that I've left off the side/pillars from the building. From my experience, although they look good it makes dis-assembling the building a PITA, so I filled in the gaps with some spare bits of sprue from the kit.
I won't post pics of the buildings again as they are almost identical to the last one. One of the small differences is this TV screen - this is a small resin accessory that comes in a multi-pack from Antenociti's Workshop. You even get a little bit of photo paper with the screen on it, to stick on the front!

Finally, some solar panels:

Again from Antenociti's (they come in a pack of 3). Just to add a little bit more of a feature/cover to the top of the apartment buildings. Probably not that necessary, but hopefully will add to the overall look of the table.

OK that's it for now! Next up, some more minis to paint, and another quite involved new building which I hope to be able to show soon!

Any C&C is very welcome as always!

The smoke markers are cool, but how do you keep track of the smokes radius when using them?

My Finite Infinity Blog - Latest: Sekban with Missile Launcher @ 2012/08/30 11:26:05

Post by: Pacific

Thanks a lot for the comments guys!

Hindenburg, we just measure 2 inches from the centre of the smoke template, it's fairly straightforward to work out lines of fire. Also makes it easier for units moving in and through it, and less unsightly than a big smoke template sat on the board and awkwardly balancing on terrain!

Next up another 'civilian' model, should have it done over the next day or so I hope!

Well mate you may have a chance to, and hopefully the finished version! I'm hoping to help run an Infinity event here in the South West towards the end of October - an attempt to try and get a more stable Infinity community around here hopefully, but I will post an advert for it when it has been confirmed!

Next up, Grace Jones! Well, actually a 'civilian' model for the town, but this one has a bit of a difference..

Just a busker, or an art student, standing on a street corner right? Wrong! Look more closely..

Thought that was a guitar she was holding? No, it's a mk17 proton-accelerated machine gun with caseless uranium bullets!

This model was made by the suggestion of a friend for the 'disguised' version of the Hassassin Fiday.
- When the assassin is 'un-noticed' I will use the guitar-holding arm.
- When a discovery roll is successfully made.. "hey, that can't be Grace Jones! She's been dead for more than 300 years!" I can swap off the guitar arm and replace it with the gun.

Basically I just drilled a small hole and put a pin in, so it's then a simple matter to sub out one arm for the other.

The model is a civilian model from Antenociti's workshop, which are all nicely scaled towards Infinity. I wanted to use a paint scheme similar to the Hassassin model I have already painted (first page of this thread), so muted browns and greens, to help reinforce the impression of the hi-tech light manipulating technology the Hassassin uses to disguise himself.

Not quite sure what happened with the photos, I used a lot of varnish on this mini (being metal, constantly removing the arm is going to wear it a lot) so I think perhaps the camera lens picked up more of that than actually is present on the model. Also her skin is quite a bit darker in reality (in reference to so many modern sci-fi writers who often talk about 'ebony skinned' characters in their stories).

Any C&C very welcome! Next up I will be putting the final touches to my board, so hopefully some more terrain!

Hey guys, just for anyone reading this thread from the UK (preferably the South West) myself and another Infinity-obsessed friend are going to be running an Introductory event at the Total Wargamer store.

Full details on this thread here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/477645.page

The event will be utilising a lot of the miniatures and terrain found in this thread.

For any dakka-ites who would be able to come on the day, I hope to see you there!

Yes, the entire purpose was for me to be as lazy as possibly when painting stuff! Although, now I have lost one of the arms so may have to do this anyway

For the Infinity introduction event I ran the other week I had to paint up some minis in a hurry, so I did a couple of models to finish off my mates Yu Jing (which I'm borrowing while he gallivants around Southern Asia). Painted these guys in a couple of hours, which wouldn't have been possible without the wonderful GW foundation paints and other things that you get these days!

Tokusetsu Butai

Björk, also known as Karakuri.

Next up some more terrain shots (a 90% finished board, I'm now thinking of doing another board for the new Paradiso book) and I've just got started on one of the new Kaplan Tactical services minis to fight alongside my Haqqislam!

Any C&C very welcome!

Thanks, Cut!
I agree with you, clean is good, especially for a model that looks so much like I-robot.
Generally white is difficult to paint. Apart from white paints often taking on a powdery texture, the real problem is finding the right color for the shadows. Black looks wrong normally. Blue has a certain effect to it and makes it very cold (not neccessarily a bad thing, here it works). Grey is an option but tends to look boring.
As you can see I'm in the middle of that same dilemma with my Aleph...

My Finite Infinity Blog - Latest: Sekban with Missile Launcher @ 2012/11/02 21:21:49

Post by: Pacific

Thanks a lot for the comments guys!

Yes after painting a World Eaters (pre-heresy army) I have got a LOT of time for anyone who can paint white well. It's a nightmare!

But really with these minis I had to finish 2 in an evening, as well as a bunch of bases, so it was just a case of a light foundation grey and then building up to white from it - you can't really see the highlight, or shades of grey (all 50 of them ) thanks to the poor photo. The doc in particular though I might re-visit at some point with an alternative paint scheme, it really is a beautiful little model and I wish I could have spent more time on it.

A couple of quite photos of the 90% finished board which I forgot to post, from the intro event I ran with a friend a few weekends ago:

The one apartment building needs finishing off, and the plasticard building up close is a WIP by my friend. The crates I think also need some weathering powders to make them look a little more realistic.

Any C&C very welcome! Next up, one of the new Kaplan Tactical Services mercenary soldiers, and hopefully some more terrain!

But how do you justify so many containers in the middle of the road =P

My Finite Infinity Blog - Latest: Sekban with Missile Launcher @ 2012/11/03 00:35:56

Post by: Pacific

Haha right...

answer 1: 'Just'
Facetious answer 2: Any models going anywhere near it in the game would get cut to pieces, making it a boring game.
Otherwise.. umm.. the lorry carrying them got disintegrated?

Agree though it dispels the illusion of reality a little - I need some other trucks/vehicles to put down the centre of the road ideally.

A better shot of a Zero I painted some time ago, with a proper camera this time:

My Finite Infinity Blog - Latest: Sekban with Missile Launcher @ 2012/11/03 02:25:19

Post by: Chemical Cutthroat

The Zero looks good. Does she have a repeater or an e/mauler?

My Finite Infinity Blog - Latest: Sekban with Missile Launcher @ 2012/11/05 22:26:07

Post by: Pacific

Do you know mate I haven't added her to the list yet.. I think it's possibly an e-mauler? (purely on the basis that it looks like a maul! Really I have no idea... ) She did have some weird grenade type thing with her which I guess was either the repeater or e-mauler, but I didn't particularly like the look of it on the model so took it off.

Finished painting up another mini! This time a Kaplan Tactical Services. Again I bought this not really knowing what it can do in the game, but just purely because I thought it looked so cool. As it turns out though he is pretty handy (armed with a Spitfire in this case), and can also be attached to Haqqislam - so a double bonus!

I tried to paint him in such a way that he could be attached to the Haqqislam (so used green), but also wanted to try a less brilliant shade, so went for a lot more muted green, greys and browns. Hopefully he looks a bit more realistic as a future soldier, although I have to say the shades of green didn't come out particularly well with the photo.

Hopefully at some point a boxset will be released of these guys, allowing me to make a squad (and giving me access to their Adhesive grenade launcher!)

Any C&C very welcome!

Thanks a lot for the comments guys!

@Baiyuan - thanks mate, that is now rectified (painted the red a little more under his boot)

Just a small update, a Ragik I painted up for the Infinity event I went to a few weeks ago. Again he was painted in a real rush, but I hope he just about manages to fit in with the rest of the Haqqislam in the force (they've been painted now over the course of a year or more so are starting to look a bit disparate).

This guy has been horrendously effective in every game I have used him in (except for a 1st one against Aleph, where he was 'iced' by an EVO repeater, and landed directly in front of an Aleph TAG in my opponent's turn - no prizes for guessing how that one ended!).

Next up, I'm getting tired of painting green, so some more Nomads!

Any C&C very welcome!

Slick! I like how green the guys are, and he has a great pose and all. He's one of my favorite Hassassin models, even though I almost never end up using Ragiks. Maybe I should give them a try, it seems like Drop Infantry can really ruin someone's day. I like the white, and how the wings have a nice fade to them, but the gun could use a tad more attention, it just looks like you hit it with a drybrush, screamed GUN! and said complete. It's what you use to murder with! Take some pride in your weapon! Otherwise it's top notch mate!

My Finite Infinity Blog - Latest: Sekban with Missile Launcher @ 2012/11/12 09:58:03

Post by: Pacific

Hahaha thanks mate really laughed at your comment about the gun! Yes it's completely true sadly, I should definitely give some more attention to it. Possibly too many years painting bolters in that manner!

Really cool, was chatting to the guy from Beasts of War at the Campaign Paradiso event a few weeks ago, and saw that he was snapping some shots of everyone's minis during the games. Anyway just found out that some of my Haqqislam had pictures of them posted on the website as part of their feature on it! http://www.beastsofwar.com/infinity/infinity-campaign-paradiso-tabletop-nation-event-part-1/

During this game, 'Snake Pliskkin' suffered from not being in cover. Actually my force suffered generally from being against one of those armies that has 32" guns shoot 34", x-ray bullets that go through cover, units which can reverse time and take back dice rolls that happened 3 rolls ago (with units seemingly coming back alive), and a complete lack of gaming etiquette to create a quite unpleasant atmosphere! I'm sure you get the picture - However rightly or wrongly I've reached the point now (is it an age thing?) where I just let such things slide over me. Terrain was rather poor against an unpainted army (that's it for the moans, really! ) - play as quickly as possible, smile and nod, concede at the first possible moment, move on to the next game...

Again terrain was poor, both of the people in this tower got critted! But my opponent was a great laugh, with a really nicely painted army and I thoroughly enjoyed the game despite many of my guys dying in a hail of bullets. What wargaming is all about and a reminder of why I play these games.

Some of the terrain set-up, which looked amazing! Made me really want to make my own Paradiso board...

Have to say though the best part of the day was definitely getting to meet the game's creators, and here about some of the development process. Carlos, one of the main writers of the book, has an extremely dry sense of humour and was just so enthusiastic about the new book and Infinity. The chap next to him (who you will have to identify from the back of his head! And I believe was named Juan(?) and had also come to the event from Spain) was also a good laugh and monitored us during the game, helping to clear up rules queries and things like that.

Finally, I asked Carlos if he could sign my rule book - I thought he had said to me 'who do you want it signed for?' so for a joke I said 'Saladin'. However, what he was actually asking was who would I like him to draw in the book! So, I got this done on the inside of my Infinity rulebook which is really cool (he drew it in a couple of minutes!), and a really nice souvenir from the event!

Overall the event was great fun and thoroughly enjoyable, and has also cemented my opinion that Infinity is going to continue to go from strength to strength. The amount of effort that has been put into it, the range of models, the rules, if there was any justice in the world at all (I think I really need some sense of perspective here - first world troubles and all that! ) it would be the premier game on the market right now and the gaming halls of the world would be resounding to the sounds of D20's hitting the table. Perhaps one day, we can only hope!

Thanks a lot for the comments guys, means a lot!

Chemical Cutthroat, yes mate I believe that is exactly what happened in the games - the highway looked awesome, but it was a massive boon to whoever had that side of the field. TBH the game playing was the weakest part of the event for me (I mean, you can play games any time, on better terrain) but it was so awesome to meet the game creators and hear about the new book first hand.

Real quickie of one of the other models I had to get finished for the event, a total reaction Kameel remote. Went for the combi rifles just because they looked better, although with the rules of the evo-repeater model I might get one of those painted up as well.

Next up a Nomad pic, and hopefully a WIP of the new board I've just started making!

Yes Loki they aren't the easiest model in the world to build, but you don't need to pin. It's not that heavy, and the centre of the model's weight is over the middle and its legs which means it would actually hold itself up under its own weight - a dab or 2 of thick super glue and it's not going to budge.

Cheers Chemical Cutthroat, yes I will probably get the other one painted up as an evo at some point (possibly in secret, so I can surprise my opponent in a game and 'ice' his AD trooper )

For the visor thing at the front I went from brown up through a citadel foundation yellow, and finally a highlight of golden yellow.

Finally I have a group shot of my Haqqislam, taken by IJW at the Paradiso event and very kindly of him posted over on the official forums:

Not sure yet what to do with this force - I'm up to 300pts now (with an Odalisque and Spec Ops to paint), but think I might turn my attention onto some Nomads for the time being. Also, I recently bought a TAG that needs to be painted..

Another update, this time something a little bit different! A 'ram man' Uberfallkommando.

Rather than just use a standard colour scheme I thought I would try something a bit different! These guys are fighting on the TV (Maya?) networks etc so I thought it would make sense for them to have sponsorship! I used some of the smallest decals I have in the form of a Tamiya motorbike kit. In the future Brembo have branched out into sports wear, and possibly BBS are doing some kind of gene-splicing?

The colour scheme itself I borrowed from a real-life source, the MotoGP Camel Yamaha team from some years ago, which I thought would be a nice contrast to the grey fur of the ram.

I've got some ideas for other 'teams' for the fox-man and cat-man. Have to say though these models are awesome, and really liking the Nomad stuff I have done so far! Some of it is a little bit cheesy, but it has a character all of its own.

Any C&C very welcome!

Whoa, one of the few Nomad model's i don't like but you've turned me around on it. Show's what's possible with a little bit of thought and a well executed paint job!

Nice one, dude!

Nice! I'm glad someone else picked these up. I have the box but I am outright terrified to try and assemble the Chimera. I keep looking at her and wondering how many times I'm going to glue her to my thumb in the process of assembly.

I like the bike idea. Time for REPSOL Fox!

Those decals are so damn sharp I thought you photoshopped them actually. I like the idea, but being a car guy and looking at it is rather disorienting.

"Why would Brembo support this sort of stuff?"

"I dunno, maybe because he... brakes things."

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAH! *cue CSI Miami intro*

Yeah, the black and orange are a nice color combination and different enough to stand out from the others.

When I paint mine I'm thinking of doing some rather exotic fur colors too. We'll see.

Hey guys, sorry it has been so long since the last update! At the moment have been thinking of running another Infinity event sometime in March, so am trying to get things prepared for that. The city terrain is more or less finished, but still needs a bit of work. So, firstly I splurged out on some rather excellent little battlefield accessories from a company called Ainsty Castings (http://ainstycastings.co.uk/index.php/cPath/52) Very reasonably priced, and some really cool bits and pieces!

And here are the first couple of pieces finished. Firstly, some computer consoles which can be used for one of the Campaign Paradiso missions

Secondly, some advertising boards. These are actually from 'Antenociti's Workshop', again very reasonably priced, easy to put together, and they come with little printed posters to fit. Like the quite nerdy Matrix reference on the one

Next up some more terrain I'm building, as well as some more citizens. Any C&C very welcome!

Nice additions, boss.

I think it's my brain playing tricks in me but these pieces look very weightless. I'm not sure what's giving me that impression. Wait, it might be because I have barely slept... Yeh that's probably it.

Anyway, I really like your paint job, futuristic eutopia style but with a little rust to show things aren't as positive as some would lead you to believe. Very 'Infinity'.

Thanks for the comments guys!

A bit of a small update - just a WIP of a new building I'm working on at the moment. I won't say what it is yet (as I'm not entirely sure that it will work!), but it's probably the most difficult thing I've tried to make yet. Hopefully update over the next few days when I finally get round to finishing it.

Oh wait. I think I totally know what that is. I hope I'm right because I've been looking for some more info on the main component.

Also, you should post a link in the showcasing thread so everyone can find you.

Post by: Pacific

OK mate I will do, thanks! Really like the effort you are making with that kind of stuff on the forum, I think it's a big help to the community at large!

OK.. I'm sure it was easy to guess what the WIP of the terrain piece was! This is probably my most ambitious piece of terrain to date, and is intended to be a centre-piece for my Acontencimento city board.

This is made from a combination of MAS apartment, some scratch built parts and a Samsung digital photo frame. It's almost complete, and just needs some square tubing to tidy up the cable leading from it.

I've loaded probably about 30-40 of different sci-fi style adverts, some are photoshopped myself, others stolen from other people's good ideas!
It works on a timer, switching every 20 seconds or so (with a kind of 'blinds shuffling' cool effect)
. Sadly this photo frame couldn't play GIFs or video, otherwise I would have loaded on the chinese woman from Blade Runner.. :(

Extra geek-points for anyone who knows this reference

I've added some extra detailing, like this plasma TV screen on the side, and small control panels on each door. You can also see how the 'screen' is held in place, using bits taken from the MAS walkway set. It slides into and out of place (just in case I ever tire of it and want the photoframe back ) and to make for easier transport/storage.

And some grafitti on the side .. the grafitti itself is a decal. The Korean writing says 'Maya Out!'

A shot from the back. I've tried to keep most of the windows shut so miniatures here don't have too much of an advantage by going inside (bearing in mind it's possible to climb to the top!) In the end I compromised with a single window (you can't see it well in the photo, but they have blue glass like my other buildings) and a balcony on the side. The small plastic component on the back, I think taken from an Imperial Guard tank kit, is attached by small magnets. You can remove it in order to use the on/off button.

And a close-up of some more grafitti - this art is from a guy who is a famous grafitti artist in the city near where I lived for a few years, his stuff is all over the place and always really funny. Again, this was a decal.

This now represents almost an end to the city board - just a few more bits and pieces, and then I will post some more pics here!

Any C&C very welcome as always!

I knew it!! Oh and it's soooo awesome! The addition of the banksy decal gets you even more cool points. I think I might have to riff off of that when I get round to terrain.

Can you give me some info on how you chose the screen and stuff. I've got plans for this type of project but I'm not sure how to go about choosing my components. Ideally I'd like to play video, GIF, IMG, etc. How did you choose size and cost as well?

Thanks a lot for the comments guys! Really appreciated

@ Bruticus - I'm just in the process of getting a man cave sorted out now, but when I get everything set up again will make sure I post some pics of the completed (almost! ) board.

@ Casey's Law - I ended up just working around what I had, which in this case was a slightly old digital frame, an unused (i.e. no-one could be bothered with it) Xmas present that had been sat in a box for a couple of years. It can only play a slideshow of images, but that being said there may be newer versions out now that can play video as well. I would say that this option is probably one of the cheapest though - another option might be to get an early/cheaper tablet, which would be even more versatile, and would let you go the whole hog with sound and all sorts. A smart phone might be another option as well, although again it would be that much smaller.

Otherwise it was just a case of making a plasticard case to go around the unit, and then feed the cable down through the centre of a standard MAS apartment building. I'v deliberately not opened too many windows on the side because I don't want any reason for units to hang around in the centre of it, and therefore have to take the building apart in a game (which isn't really practical).

Let me know what you come up with though mate if you start something similar! Might well have to start stealing your ideas for my own mk2

Sorry it's been a while guys, but finally a new update.

Firstly, the newest member of my Uberfallkommando team. Fresh from the underground fighting league of Acontencimento, I've tried to make this guy look like he is in 'Marlboro' colours, although a friend commented that he looked like Santa Claus

Next up, some tiny Arcade Machines. These are made by Ainsty castings. I've modified them slightly, the artwork and styles is both modelled on the actual arcade machines (Space Harrier and Street Fighter 2 respectively), and I added little joysticks and different power attack buttons to the SF2 cabinet. These were in the arcades when I was a kid so I have a certain affinity to them

Any C&C very welcome!

Santa claws maybe!

Nah seriously though you did a great job on the Überfallkommando but it's one of the few Infinity miniatures I really don't like. Still I can appreciate the sweet paint job you've given it.

The arcade machines are great too, even better that they bring back childhood memories. They'll be really fun to play around.

Eventually hope to have a kind of small fenced off enclosure to go within the city, with arcade machines, vending machines, possibly a little basketball hoop

A quick update, a couple more terrain pieces. At present I'm working on a new board; a forest/Paradiso type world, which will feature a research base. Have painted some terrain pieces, and just making some forests now so hopefully will have something to show soon!

I'm also going to be adding one of these as part of the board - here is a sneak peek of the box (waited a while to get one of these from ebay at a less-than ridiculous price!)

A 'civilian'(?!), not sure what this thing is or what it does! The miniature is from Hasslefree miniatures, and will be trundling around the board during games.

And with all the civilians I'm planning to add, it's only fair that the cities of the future have plenty of toilet facilities! These have been spruced up from before, with some little labels added (all unisex toilets in the future by the looks of things!)

Hopefully some pics of some more exciting stuff to follow!

Cheers man, think Infinity offers so many opportunities for creative modelling and building - there are just so many kits available right now that are suitable, but the whole universe is still open-ended enough that you can still use your own imagination with stuff!

OK guys a massive update! Sadly the event I was advertising above was cancelled due to ill health (hopefully to be re-scheduled soon), but that has given me a chance to get some stuff finished off and also photos of everything! So, without further ado..

With regards to rules, all of the following use the 'Civilian' special rules from the Human Sphere rulebook, with special rules as noted

Civilians of Acontencimento (a snapshot of the various denizens of Nueva Catalunya)

Office Workers

Waiting for the bus, on the way to an important meeting, these guys are so busy they probably wouldn't notice a Morat TAG if it walked past them!

Miniatures: 'Office Workers' from Antenociti's Workshop, vending machines by Ainsty Castings.
Weapons: Clip-board
Special Rules: none

Walter 4-series Service Dwoid

"Would sir like help with that bag? Or would sir like diwections? Yes, of course this wobot can dwokk off, if that is what sir wishes.. "

Miniature: Walter the wobot (2000AD range), Mongoose Publishing
Weapons: Electric Pulse
Special Rules: CH: Mimetism

Group W Security

Minimum wage, long day ahead of them, lots of coffee to drink.. no task is too easy for the Group-W Security Services (2 for 1 offer, limited time only - W-Group cannot be held responsible for any security failures or damage caused by W-Group employees).

Miniature: Security Guards, from Heresy Miniatures
Weapons: Pistol, cup of joe
Special Rules: None

Not an Alien Life Form

An AI-enabled children's toy? A gene-spliced house servant? Even an alien visiting town to go shopping? Who knows, but one thing for sure is that this guy knows he is cool, and is walking the walk through down-town

Miniature: 'Alf', by Four A miniatures
Weapons: Stogie
Special Rules: CH: Mimetism

Ulala, special reporter for Channel 5

Even the Morats can't help themselves! Everyone dances along to Ulala's mobile disco!

Miniature: Special edition 'reporter', by Corvus Belli
Weapons: Pink hair
Special Rules: None

News Reporters

Real news reporters! Want to get the latest scoop on the streets of the city, whatever that might be..

Miniature: (I have no idea! Bought these from a convention, please let me know if you can identify these models!)
Weapons: None
Special Rules: Must stay within 6" of each other.

And finally a group shot (hopefully some more miniatures on the way!)

I'm currently writing some special rules to have these guys walking the city board during games - picture something like Grand Theft Auto, where these guys are just going about their daily lives (until a thermo-optic camoflauged ninja appears next to them!)

The rules will include
- rules for the reactions of the civilians when confronted with an action (ARO) - do they run away? jump on the ground? Stand there staring, or in rare instances even attack the soldiers?!
- a GTA style 'star' system. These guys see the fight taking place, and might well phone the police! This can escalate from a police patrol car (which will almost certainly end up as flaming wreckage), to an armoured SWAT-team equivalent and even air support (with the Infinity equivalent of a police chopper!) Suddenly the mission for both teams becomes a great deal harder, so perhaps it will be better to hide from the civilians, or even kill them silently?

Anyway will post the rules in the Infinity section of the board when done, in the meantime C&C on the above is very welcome!

They are Copplestone. Mark Copplestone has done at least three iterations of these models from his Grenadier days (CC are the current generations of them).
He also worked for GW in the 80s and was responsible for the original look of the Commissar models.

Granny, miniature from Hasslefree miniatures. In a 'zombie apocalypse' game we played, we placed this miniature in the park area of the city, next to a bench. Neither zombie or human player noticed her which was pretty funny, the GM had agreed a 1-1 move if she did have to run for it

Fat man with belly-wheel. Miniature is from Mongoose (fans of Judge Dredd will be instantly familiar with the concept of a belly-wheel). In the game we used him as a civilian with 'no wound incapacitation'. Amazingly he staved off many zombies and escaped to the evacuation vehicle. The mini actually came packaged with two right arms, which was a bit of a pain, but an Imperial Guard Cadian plastic arm and some green-stuff later and hopefully it's not too noticeable!

'Boy in goat suit' officially, think it's meant to be 'Goat Boy' of Bill Hicks fame. Obviously the sculptor from Hasslefree is a fan!

Excellent additions. I think Granny could be a really good character to base games around. Make up some cool rules and scenarios for her and get stuck in.

Latest update, sorry it has been a while!

This Onobiwan belongs to a mate who had expressed a desire to paint it himself; however, he left the miniature in my house and is half way around the world now,so, his own fault

A photo of my Qapu Khalqi mercenary faction, 'the Black Cats'. I really will try and get some better photos!

Got the final photos of the QK on their way, along with little bit of fan faction and a battle report. Any C&C welcome!

Thanks for the comments guys!

Have been remiss with Infinity recently, but now some other projects have neared completion I will be giving it attention again.

Very small update, another miniature that will be used as a civilian.

Engineer Ichibold Clarke

Miniatures: 'Engineer' from Studio McVey, Sedition Wars kickstarter
Weapons: Plasma Cutter, ideal for cutting limbs from long-limbed alien monstrosities.
Special Rules: Terrain: Zero G

Hopefully another update coming before too long!

Subbed. Love your work P. Especially the artwork.

Did you ever catch the misspelling of Acontecimento on the back of the truck? You spelled it Acontencimento?

Arise, thread! Arise!!!

Far too long since I posted anything in here, but I've finally got round to taking pics of my Qapu Khalqi force. I'll be posting pics over the next couple of weeks of the members that make up the force, as well as some background on them. This will also culminate in a special narrative AAR, which will be posted in the Infinity section of the board hopefully in the next few weeks.

Known as 'القطط السوداء' or 'The Black Cats', this band of mercenaries operate from the 3rd moon of Acontencimento, a forest moon known as Hermoso Bosque. From this secret military base they utilise advanced tracking and communications systems to monitor the large amount of incoming civilian and industrial traffic to Acontencimento, as well as probes that monitor the mostly automated mining crafts working the outer rim of the system. Should insurgent or pirate forces strike the Black Cats will be one of the rapid reaction forces called upon by the Acontencimento prefecture. Their high price is deemed appropriate by those who want a force for which completion of the mission target is paramount and complete discretion guaranteed.

Unit Commander - Kareem Boulos كريم بولس
Wearing a pressure suit this trooper, nominated as Alpha for the Black Cat interdiction unit, is equipped ready to be deployed in locations as varied as the surface of the planet or during breaching actions in zero g and even limited exposure to vacuum. His visor features an advanced HUD which provides a command & control interface for real-time direction to the rest of the unit and overlaying strategy information, provided by the myriad of drones and other surveillance equipment released into the area prior to deployment.

In these images the trooper is equipped in a camo scheme designed for the forest moon of their military base. This will differ depending on the environment that the force will be deployed in.

The trooper is equipped with a combi-rifle and sidearm as well as mono-edged combat knife. A ballistic impact vest and armour provides limited protection against small arms fire and fragmentation debris. In this example the unit Alpha is carrying supplies, indicating that he is operating for an extended period, most likely for a training exercise within the forests surrounding their base.

C&C very welcome, the next miniatures will be along in the next day or so.

Post by: soulcow

I really like these guys, but since you wrote that background information: Why didn't you go for a forest base?

The camo suit should accompany the mission, but this seems forest camo (from their military base) for an urban zone? I really don't mind myself, it's just something that came up when reading the background.

My Finite Infinity Blog - Latest: Sekban with Missile Launcher @ 2014/08/16 11:51:29

Post by: Pacific

Thanks Soulcow, yes you are absolutely right! Makes no sense to have a concrete base if he is meant to be walking through forest..

(I've changed it now).

Next up:

Black Cats KTS Trooper - Hakim Iz-al-deen / الحكيم عز الدين
The shipping lanes monitored by the Black Cats are a key route for exports and the pharmaceutical industries operating from Acontencimento. As one of the key objectives of Beyhan Resources Sti is to ensure the safe shipment of these goods a number of Kaplan Tactical Services units (the security arm of BRS) operate within the Black Cats mercenary group.

Pictured here is a KTS trooper equipped in forest camo-pattern uniform. Hermetically sealed the suit offers protection against atmosphere variations, such as extremes of pressure and temperature, and even chemical and biological weapons. Such equipment is vital considering the various environments in which the mercenary group may be deployed.

This trooper is armed with a standard issue combi-rifle. He also carries a 'Bllitzen', a non-leathal electromagnetic weapon used to disable high-technology threats.

Any more C&C very welcome, hopefully some more to post over the next few days.

Post by: Pacific

Cheers mate!

In all honesty I think the scheme is a little bit too dark. (It certainly doesn't photograph very well for a start!)

Next up:

Azra'il Trooper - Ihad Gamali / ايهاب جمالي
As disgraced or otherwise withdrawn members of the Sultanate personal guard, the Azra'il are often seconded to Mercenary units in the Acontencimento sector.
Heavily armoured and armed the Azra'il fight aggressively and bravely, often the first through the breach during boarding actions and the last to retreat in the face of an enemy assult.

Pictured here this Azra'il is armed with a Panzerfaust, a powerful anti-armour weapon, and a rifle. A small flame thrower is also carried for combat within closed confines, while the troopers breathing apparatus and closed system protects them from harmful atmospheres

Like I said over on the showcase thread, pretty nice. I like the base, both construction and dressing.

I like the colors, earthy and stealthy at the same time, and the way they make the gun look lower tech. Pretty spiffy all around.

Hey Pacific, this is a really fantastic blog – great inspiration for terrain and miniatures alike! Are you heading up to the Infinity weekend at Tabletop Nation next month? I've just dived into the game, and it'd be great to catch up with some friendly faces

I like the scheme on the Haqqislam chaps. If you're concerned it's a bit dark, perhaps you might consider some bright flashes in an accent colour? Some stripes or geometrical designs on armour plates (like the shoulder) in orange or red would be eye-catching and add a little complementary detail.

Apologist! Wow, it has been so long, I hope you are well mate!

I'm really hoping to get to that event for perhaps the Saturday, I will send you a PM as soon as I've got something arranged.

Went to the event at Tabletop Nation for the launch of the Campaign Paradiso book and it was fantastic, hopefully this one will be organised along similar lines!

Many thanks for the feedback though, know what you mean about it perhaps needing some more colour to help break it up a bit and you aren't the first person to say that. Will try and work something in to the minis that I have left to paint.

Next update with some new minis hopefully coming in a day or so.

Another update:

Al'Hawwa Specialist - Widad Aliyyah / وداد عاليه
Trained by the Security Regiments of the Silk Consortium's navy, the Al'Hawwa (meaning 'Snake Charmers') are the electronic espionage and commando units of the Black Cats. Wearing advanced optical and heat masking equipment the Al'Hawwa operate in hostile areas, providing eyes on the ground and helping to co-ordinate further operations, be those troop deployments or missile strikes launched from orbit

Often lying inert for hours at a time, this Specialist will wait for the ideal time to use her sniper rifle. When enemy forces move to investigate the source of the fire, they will trigger carefully position anti-personnel mines. A side-arm provides the final line of close-quarter defence

Many Al'Hawwa are also highly trained in hacking and electronic invasion techniques. With enemy networks infiltrated by advanced viral routines, security systems will fail at the most opportune moments, and approaching Black Cat dropships will be untroubled by anti-aircraft fire.

Any C&C very welcome, hopefully some more to post in a few days!

Something to make a change to the dull camo colours.

This is from Antenoiciti's 'Governance of Terra' range. Sadly not available at the time of writing (not sure if its to do with their future official Infinity releases?), these are some cracking miniatures and some of the only other ones to share similar proportions to the Corvus Belli miniatures (i.e. the scale of proportions)

These are going to be used as an armoured response team for some rules I am writing, that will introduce special rules for Infinity teams taking each other on in populated areas.

While I would love to take credit for modelling skills, I would probably get found out! These are a moulded part of the base, one of Micro Arts Studio's resin bases I believe (they do a whole range of urban-style bases)

Hey folks, another update with some more pics of the Black Cats mercenary group.

Black Cats KTS special weapons - Malik Ebeid / مالك عبيد

Malik is the path finder for Kaplan Tactical Services contingent working within the Black Cats group. The special-technology fabric worn by the KTS has mimetic properties that causes it to appear to blend to the background when viewed with the naked eye. It should be noted however that this offers no additional protection against even limited electronic or multi-spectral viewing devices through which the troopers body heat and other signatures are easily spotted.

He carries a Sniper Rifle to cover the field of advance of the rest of the Black Cat unit, a proficient weapon for eliminating targets of opportunity. The extensive training of the KTS troopers within their home barracks making them extremely deadly shots.

Finally, a group shot of the KTS troopers completed so far.

Any C&C very welcome! Have been busy finishing the rules and miniatures for expanded play for Infinity which I hope to show soon, and although also working on 15mm terrain to represent southern France which is taking a lot of time!

Many thanks for the kind comments guys!

I'm returning to my Nomads soon and hope to have the final one (Fox-man) painted up at some point.

A small update, with some news. Firstly, I'm hoping to be running a table at Gloucestershire Minicon on Sunday 1st Feb. Full details of the event are here, it's well worth going to see if you are near the Gloucestershire area as there is a massive variety of different games, demo tables, traders and bring & buy available.

Here is a link to the event information, and the table I had set up previously (this year likely to be similar)
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/630160.page

Another small update, got this 'CEO' mini from the rather excellent 'Black Dragon minis' (http://crossoverminiatures.com/vendor/black-dragon-miniatures/ ), who have this amongst other miniatures that are suitable for civilians for Infinity.

The two bodyguards are (I believe) Copplestone Casting miniatures, they were bought from a trade show. Thought they brought to mind the bodyguard guys from that scene in Ghost in the Shell!

Any C&C appreciated, will hopefully get a chance to meet anyone who comes to Minicon!

Thanks a lot for the compliment mate, means a lot coming from such an accomplished painter !
I really love some of the Micro Arts terrain and bases, they're a bit expensive but I think really add a lot to the miniatures.

Another update for my Mercenary force, which I am now hurriedly trying to finish in time for a tournament at the end of the month.

Sekban Heavy Weapons - Asad Bashir / الأسد البشير
Each member of the Sekban has graduated from one of the toughest training regimens found on Bourak, specialising in defence of the trade shipping that operate between the caravansaries of the Haqqislamite homeworld and neighbouring systems. Well armed, well trained, Special Operations Command has allocated a number of the unit to operate with the Black Cats. Their expertise in inter-ship warfare a great boon to the operations of the military division.

Pictured here as a stand-by unit during trade negotiation meetings on Nueva Catalunya, Asad is carrying the heaviest man-portable weapon available to the division, the Heavy Rocket Launcher. It's unlikely that such a weapon would be carried during caravan protection duties (use of the weapon would be impractical in the confines of a ship), instead the surface-to-air functions of the launcher were no doubt employed here to cover potential airborne interdictions.

He also carries the standard armament of a pistol and chain-colt, a weapon designed to cause maximum damage to personnel without puncturing the hull of a ship.

The standard equipment load-out of a Sekban includes a comprehensive comms and command & control suite. The two nodes on the back of the armour are in fact sensor equipment, giving the soldier 360 degree coverage of enemy contacts via a HUD displayed in his visor. This makes it less likely that he will be taken by surprise when fighting in vacuum (his suit giving limited protection to adverse atmospheres) or in zero-g, where the possibility exists of attack from all angles.

Magnetic boots allow the Sekban to fight effectively in gravity-less environments, something that they are well prepared for following their training in the asteroid fields of Bourak

I'm hoping to finish some more Sekban to fight alongside the HRL trooper (making use of the Qapu Khalqi's 'Haris' special rule), so hopefully updates should be a bit faster for the next month!

Any C&C very welcome!
