In stead of making a number of threads on single builds, I want to keep my builds in one thread.
So I renamed this thread.
Basicly the focus will be on Grots, as I like those more, but some Orks will be in it.
Also getting a second stopma and battlewagon for less then 20$ will get more orks involved.
Here is my latest project slowly taking shape.
I started with the tracks, and found that they would fit bet with te rules of the FW rules for the Gunwagon.
The front hatch opens up, and the turret is under way. Now the side hatch is still to do.
Of course it's 'Ard cassed.... And probbably it gets a Grot rigger in the engine compartment.

Looking good so far.
What did you use for the treads?
73632
Post by: Sanka
Thank you, martian_jo.
The treads came from an old 1/35 M60 tank that I had lying around from before I started with 40K.
Now to get a decent setup to make my photo's. Half my photo's dont work as I've got a slight problem with the white of the plasticard.

Post by: Sanka
The gunwagon is comming on slowly. But my photo skills are falling short with this plasticard.
But I made a lot of progres with a new Grot tank. This is number 14 in the collection. 4 to go still. At least....
Now off to paint it....

The gunwagon is proceding nicely. It needs some exhausts and more detailing. Still not sure what i'ts all going to be..

The Gunwagon is comming allong nicely. Painting about to start.
The first two Killa kans are at a stand still. 2 more on the way.
Deff Dread under construction. (original kit)
Not begon yet:
2 Stompa's
2 battlewaggons
troops
Deffkoptas
2 dakkajets (1 conversion)
Any number of conversions and scratch builds. ( to many good idea's here )

Love grots. Love grot tanks!
I noticed that all your tanks have similar sized, relitively round turrets. Is this on purpose? I always pictures orks as building with whatever they had lying around, so square, oddly shaped and fixed guns on levers were always prevelant in my mind.

Maybe my mind isn't Orky or Groty enough yet. Your point is somwhat valid. (thanks for the imput)
For me there has to be diferences between the tanks. The turret of the Gunwaggon is a little od shaped, but in the little tanks I have not done this yet...
Maybe on the next one that is gone get build????? For me it still has to look like a tank.... I'm playing with the idea of some walking tanks instead of tracked or wheeled. Also for the diversion between them... Damm, I love this army. It's so much more fun to convert and scratch-build, then build straight kit's....
The Grot Tanks I've build sofar so far have slight diferences in size and overal shape of the turrets. But the FW tanks are kits, I'll have to work some diferences in there as well...
My plan is for no two tanks to look the same. Even the battlewaggons are gone be different in a number of ways.. That's my idea for my army.
Also the battlewaggon kit looks way to good for an Ork construction in my eyes. They look like factory builds. Have to do something about that as well...
This does not bode well for the Deffkopta's. How am I going to make all of these look diferent enough to fit in????
Already orderd some Remora's to convert for this role... And I want to scratch build a few to.
My Killa kans are also slightly different so far. Mainly on the engines that are modified. Might need to put sone more work into these as well.... Oh well, I've got the next ones on the way, so no modifications on the ready ones will be nececary.

I have seen someone use half a yo-yo as a sort of hovercraft, piloted by a grot. can use as koptas or as bikes depending on if you put them on flying bases or not. I always wanted to do some of davincis work for grots (corkscrew helicopter, bicycle powered, balloons tied to back, etc). Also seen grots sitting on stormboy rockets like a rodeo.

Grot tank 15 is mostly done.
Yes it's a modified IG Sentinel.
The stance is modified as wel as the armored cap, the location of the engine, and the weapons.
Ad some orky bit's, and tada......
Number 14 is also in the pic's, as are the tracks for number 16. Witch I'll be working on a bit today.

Now on with the next Grot tank. I also have an idea for a Killa kan/Grot tank/Deff dread scratch build.
But I could use some more idea's for my loota's..
Here's my list so far
Grot Loota posibles:
1 Clancking destroyers with heavy weapons. ( with grot controller ? )
2 Battletech protomechs
3 Alien like loader armor for grots. (scratch build ? )
4 Grot's with remote guns
5 ?

Not much progress lately. but the mega Dread and the kill Bursta tank are getting allong nicely, and some idea's were hatched for a pair of new conversions.
A Sentinal armored cab is going to become either a death dread or an mega dread cockpit.
A killa kan body will become yet another Grot tank.. ( still get te get to the walking grot tanks...)

Thank you, and will do:
Build the body as regular, and forget the backplate witch mounts the engine.
Replace the bulges for the legs with some styrene tube, and make one for the hind legs.
Then extend the body to the rear and fit the tube for the hind legs.
Then lot's of bit's, legs and arms.
My plans are to build another one, I'll take some pics along the way...
Also I forgot KK number eight. Pics will follow soon as I now have a decent camera in reach again...

Most of my bit's are left overs from kits I bought, and some from bit store's, and trades from bit boxes all round my warhammer club...
There's also a lot of 1/35 bit's all over my marine and Orks/Grot stuff....

Merging 2 households takes away some build time, as does my model flying hobby, but progres is being slowly made.
My first Mega Dread is nearly build. Almost completely out of the box. (one klaw finger got lost somewhere, so I replaced them all)
The Klanking Destroyer and the Deff Dread are also almost ready to paint, so it will be a tripple paint job.
And I probably need te build more Grot Tanks, as a club menber expressed interest in some of the FG ones.
But the to do list is growing:
1 Truck
3 battlewaggons (1 or 2 for conversions probably)
6 deathkopta's (+2 ramora's for coversion)
20 orks ( troops)
30 grots ( troops)
5 Loota's
1 Squigot
1 Kill blasta Tank
2 Stompa's
2 Dakka jets
5 Killa kans
4 Grot Tanks ( if the sale goes through)
2 Grot Megatanks (1 original, and 1 convertion)
Non Ork stuf for conversion:
2 Leman Russ
1 Dreadknight
1 Storm Raven
And ofcourse lot's and lot's off plasticard....

I subbed to this ages ago but never commented so let me just say some epic builds Loving the curved front grot tank that looks marvellous that idea stolen
However the Kill kans are brilliant, the four legged one is so cool and using the grill of the truk model fits perfectly on top of that the sentinel with the legs just looks so Orkish, which reminds me that I started exactly the same thing myself many moons ago but never got around to finishing it off.
As fo your to do list no envy here mate, I could not sleep at night trying to figure how to fit all in but good luck with it all and on the sale although I am sure you wont need it

Thanks, Lone dirty dog.
Hey were Orks. Stealing is our thing...
And If it looks good, it is good...
Like your Grot Mega tank.
Mine will be build on a M3 Lee 1/35 kit. With Machinator bogies and tracks. Leman Russ sponsons. And for the rest???
I've said it before, I just love the conversions posible with orks...
Played only once so far with the Grot tanks and got kicked of the table , but is was great fun....

Post by: lone dirty dog
Yes Orks stealing, bashing and looking dam ugly
M3 Lee Hey look forward to that one, I just used the KV1 kit that was lying around doing nothing, really had no idea what or wear I was going with it to be honest, mine was more a pirate ship on tracks
Thanks though been a while since I did that I am trying to revisit things so hopefully it will get it finished …….One day
Machinators tracks are nice I have some myself , look great as grot tank tracks
Never play so would have no idea, but looking at them I don't think they would last long LOL but better luck next time

With armor 10 they get glanced to death by st4 weapons. So Grot tanks ain't very durable.
But as ablative shielding they work fine. Oponents can't just ignore them so they got their fair shair of fire.
Killed some marines though.

As to the 2 dreads good luck and look forward to seeing them
Two four legged killa kan's awesome, looking good so far detailing is coming on nicely
I to have a Behemoth great looking model, but you have managed to improve the overall look which in its self an achievement
Are they the Killa Kan arms on the Behemoth ?
73632
Post by: Sanka
The left one is a Killa Kan arm with a Deff Dread ccw , and the rokkit launcha on the shoulder is the lower part of a KK arm. The left arm is the original klaw arm that came with the Behemoth, I like the look of this arm a lot. They could probably sell it as a individual part quite easy....
The shoulder pads are also from the DD. There's a lot of pinning in the model, the joints are a bit thin for my taste, so I shored them up with metal 1.5mm pins.
A bit of testing was needed to get the legs into a mobile looking stance. Most of my kans have this mod to. I like my army to have a dynamic look to it...

Here's some more pics of the tracked Killa kan. (nr 12)
Made some progress on the back and the suspension. But ran out of close combat arms. Had to order some in.
To bad that's gona set my building pace back even further, but I can build on with the others, or try to scratch build an arm or two.

Also reorganized my gallery here.

Post by: Sanka
I'd like to build some grot's with dakkaguns. But I can't seem to get a decent sculpture done. And the GW grot's are not so flexible for conversion purpuses, in my eye's. I'd like to build some sort of Alien's power loader armor, but it's so damm small. I'm better at killa kan and Grot tank size stuff.. I'm looking into Dust tactics Light assault walkers to chop, but no local shop carries these, so it's hard to get a decent feel for the size...
Also I dont realy like the ork one's with those weapon rigs. They seem to uniform and unOrky to me. But here conversion seems more doable, get rid of the rigs, and scratch build some other autocannon like thingamagick. Or a multiple rockit launcha....
68228
Post by: Deunstephe
I just ordered some Dust tactics stuff myself, it isn't a light assault walker but it should still give some scale. You can get DT stuff pretty cheap off of eBay.
For my lootas I used the burna boy weapons, just cutting off the flamer tubes and hooking up some other weapons to them. Check out this thread for inspiration: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/409193.page

Some of the rivit's are hand made, the rest is Rhinestone Gem's found on E-bay. ( found that tip here )

It can use a bit more hieght in my book. I find the original stance realy low....

A big change is being made. No more orks in the army...
The army will follow the ork codex, but with all Grot and concersion models.
The first dakka-jet is being converted to a Grot pilot, to follow this line ...
Most of the tanks do not need further convertion. Killa kans, Death dreads and Mega Dreads also need no real convertion either.
Anyone interested in sweeping up some orks???

If you're turning the bomber to a Grot pilot have you thought of 2 seats instead of 1 ?
I am thinking one flying crazy style and the other with his hands over his eyes, just an idea plus it would bulk out the cockpit as well.
Maybe something like this guy I made a while ago :

73632
Post by: Sanka
Nice bit of scuplting there, Lone Dirty Dog..
For the first one, that's gonna be a straight up Dakka Jet, I thought a lone grot will do.
I'd like to build a bomber with a Mosqito style cockpit (second crewman next to, but slightly offset to the rear), and there's always the stretched cockpit (F-14 like).
For the Bomber I also want to mate 2 fuselages together like a Twin mustang.
And then there's an idea to build a Dakka-jet with Corsair like wings. ( reversed gull type wings)
As for number one. there's something I'm working on today that I'd like get doen, that would be a nice mod. I hope...
28415
Post by: lone dirty dog
WOW thats some list mate hope you have the funds to cover it but I like you're thinking some interesting ideas and concepts.
The Mosquito cockpit idea is interesting never really took notice before, now I see the offset seating that could work well.
The Twin Mustang look I have seen done with the Dakka jet some where, I will have a look in my pics if you want it might work for some inspiration.
Thanks I done it a while ago for an egg plane but never used it.

Please look for the pic's. Would be nice to see how it got done before. I'd like to have at least two turrets on the bomber, and maybe even three. And as for the funds, no problemo. Got three complete kit's, and a spare fuse already from a bit shop... And a Storm raven and a Valkyrie for conversion purposes..
The Storm raven I'd like to build like a gunship, using the Forge World bomber rules. The Valkyrie probbebly looses the cargo bay, and become's a fighter like plane...
As a plane buff, I know a lot of WWII planes and old type jet planes. ( I love the RAF museum in London, and especialy the Cambera and the Baufighter ) And I'd like to incorperate some design elements of old planes into this army.

Have not got much done the last few weeks.
But as I dicided that this army is going to be a Grot army on Ork rules I needed some stronger troops.
The Kromlech clanking destroyers gave me a good idea. So I went on to build my own Grot cunstructs that replace the orks.
Got a lot of models to make, even for one troop choice....
In the background is the base I intend to use for the terain modeling contest. Hopefully I get that finished in time......

You want to look towards the good old 80s movies for inspiration, they have loads of badly designed robots that would work nicely for grot inspired mechanics
The second from the right kind of has a Johnny 5 meets wall-e

i agree with the dirty dog
They really came out well, love the idea too, lets hope building a horde of them wont drive you too mad, or perhaps that will only advance your inner mek boy

Yep, a number of great looking bot's have pased on the silver screen...
The great bot's of the :
70's
Dewey en Huey
Maximilian
80's
Johnny 5
ED-209
90's
ABC Warrior
later :
Marvin
Wall-E
Hah, more imput please...
Well, this army keeps me busy for a while to come. Luckely my girlfiend/wife to be understands the need for a project, so it goes allong on a slow but steady pace, even though we are in the midle of a renovation... I hope we get it done by januarie as planned, so my building time will get a boost....

Been busy with the move lately.
But here's some progres. Got another Idea into my head for the second Mega Dread.
The body of a Defiler with a killa kan body added..
Looks like a good start to me. Now for the legs. The cannon I made already will probebly be combined with a Defiler claw arm.
Then only some secondary weaponry, but that's easy.......

thanks, you guy's.
The cheapest bit's in bitsshops are often the most interesting.
I got another idea cooking, in the same sort of style. Pic's will follow asap.
Having an active inner Mek helps with the idea's. Now just getting around to finising them all.....

The Mega Dread got legs and a big gun.
The arm and gun are magnatized for movement, transport and weapon flexebility.
Then there's a body for Death Dread number 4... Now on for the legs....

Interesting leg choice! But I like how it scales to the actual model, I have no idea how large mine is in comparison.

Having a spare defiler myself, I love the use you've made of it - will probably steal the idea. Although I'll probably wait for the new codex, hoping that a megadredd or similar will appear as a standard unit.

Ha, Got some building done at last. The move is mostly done, so now back to Grots and mechanized goodies... ( and some organizing stray moving boxes once in a while)
The second Mega dread is on the move again. The close combat arm was an easy thing, I got the Defiler arm from a club member, and the shoulder plate is now in progres. Both are magnatized seperatly for transportation and posible conversion in the future. The gun arm and gun are also magnatized...
DX took it's sweet time in shipping, but delevered als usual in the end....

The fourth Death Dread just became Mega Dread 3. The legs were to big to make it a DD.
So with the Ruzzbot that makes for four playable Mega Dreads. (When finished)
This is gonna be a big big army.....

The mount and shoulder are not started yet.

The Ruzzbot has gotten a head, and a gun arm on the way.
I'm still thinking on how to give it some more weapons so it can stand in as a Mega Dread.
The two Rhino hatches got a good chance to be used for this.
Also it could be used as a Battlewagon, if I leave the large top Rhino hatch detatchable. And do something with that, make it into a ramp or something.

It's been a while, but finaly got some building done.
The Gorkanaut is gonne be pretty out off the box up untill the arms.
A'm fiddling a bit with the legs to get a bit of a higher stance, and get some semblance of movement in the model. GW did most of the work, exept for a little cutting at the knee's..
Also my first one on one game is comming up on wensday.
1000 points.
My list so far. ( feel free to give coments )
Warboss in Mega Armor 100p
2 x 11 grots with runthurd 81p
Dakkajet with flybos 145p
Death dread + kmb 90p
3 Killa kans RL 165p
Mega dread 175p
3 Killa kans GZ 165p
4 Grot tanks 175p
Total 996p ( will ad a grot for 999p )

Some Grots are just not properly motivated when heading into battle without their lost brethren.

Warboss in Mega Armor 100p
1 x 11 + 1 x 12 grots with runthurd 73p
Death dread 80p
pDeath dread 80p
3 Killa kans RL 150p
Mega dread 175p
3 Killa kans GZ 165p
4 Grot tanks 175p
My opponent had 2 Exorcists, two squads, and a mounted HQ.
The transport got creamed in turn 2. The Exhorcist fire I recieved so far took 1 hp from a Killa kan, and one Death dread ...
In turn three I had claimed two markers, killed the HQ, and lost only a single killa kan and a grot tank..
Turn four I lost another two grot tanks and a pair of killa kans... My opponent lost an entire 15 sister troop squad..
In turn five my grots got charged by the remaining sisters, and gor their asses handed to them...
The Exorcist claimed the Mega dread...
Turn six realy went against me.. My warbos and the second Death dread got overwatched to death... That hurted..... By a troop squad of sisters...
But the remaining grots held on under two rounds of Exorcist fire, and one turn of troops firing on them....
To win, my oponent had to get that last unit dead or running, becaus I had first blood.. His one unit could claim only one marker, and that would not be enough for him to win....
Sweet victory...
Next week the week Eldar are comming to rumble....

And on we go...
Here's Killa Kan 19. Still a work in progres.. Needs an engine to finish it off, and a grot in the hatch..
The army so far is pretty balanced, even if it's very light on troop choices..
Played a few team games with it, and faired pretty decent. Against an anty armor army we lost, but against a pair of Ork players we won easy.
The guy I played with had a pair of Knights... Heavy modded to the chaos gods..
In 40K in fourty minutes the Grotz also did pretty fair. Balance wins and losses... Not bad, and a lot of fun, just like the building....

As usual looking great
Looking at those legs again you make pretty cool arms from them with a hammer head fist.

Here is some progres.
Mega Dread six is on the way.. A dunecrawler body with a few Defiler bits..
These guys preform pretty good in a battle.
And the right Stopma is also a good adition... Man are those things lasting fire magnets....
Need to build a lifta droppa.... Briljant thing... A 2500P IG Armored company needet thee turns to waist this sucker, providing my Mega Dreads the time to get into combat... Tanks deid hard, and the ramshacle kept the dreads alive....
Fun part was that three rockit armed Grot tanks kept drawing fire also.. The little buggers kept harrassing the big tanks, and theatend to get into their rears.... 120p well spend...
Next time I'll take some picks....

5 Deff Dreads
1 Gorkanout
1 Gun wagon
23 Killa kans
6 Lootas
6 Mega dreads
1 Stompa
1 Kill Bursta
To do:
2 Grot megatanks 1 FG 1 alternative
1 Stompa
2 Battlewagons
1 Dakkajet + 3 alternates
2 AA guns
troops
Mega Dreads, Deff Dreads, and kanz...
