Funniest was Fate weaver getting shot on a 6 with a las gun, wounded on a 6 with a las gun, failed save on a 1, rerolled into a 1, then took a grounding test on a 1, faty rerolled into a 1 and failed the save, then promptly died.

Same game final turn warp storm poops out a instability test and tables my opponent for me

Saint Celestine being shot down in some ruins.

She resurrects with 1 wound (note, this was the old Celestine who got up with d3 wounds)

Jumps out of the ruins.

Blows her dangerous terrain test, dies again.

I just am imagining a bird hitting a window.

The last game I played ended up with a badly mangled LR driving in circles around an objective fleeing from my single, very annoyed Obliterator, after it had taken three hull points off it, two of them with it's power fist.

Other highlights were a GK dreadnought killing itself casting Sanctuary, and my sorcerer managing to injure himself with Perils and then scattering a maximum strength Tzeentch's Firestorm back into his face in the same psychic phase.

Sisters vs Space Marines. By the bottom of turn 3, all that is left on the board is my Exorcist and my opponent's Scout Sniper.

What then proceeds is three turns of the scout that will not die, and the exorcist that can't be penetrated.

Well, my librarian was murdered at almost point blank with a vanquisher cannon... Still won the game... had plonked scouts in a bunker (2+ beacuse of camo cloaks). Even a battle cannon couldn't move them. Another one, SM vs Tau, took out devilfish with EDIT a Plasma Cannon, all bar 1 FW s died. My Librarian with boltgun just rapid fired him to death, rolling all 6s.

Was playing mirror mech eldar back in 5th.

Both of us had Eldrad seer council in a wave serpent.

He gets T1, rolls Perils twice, fails both Ghosthelm saves.

Turn 2, he tries to get off Fortune again, gets Perils again instead, fails save one last time -- Eldrad dies to Perils.

That's one way to win a mirror match!

1st edition regular Saturday battle at the local GW. 20-30 players each with a single infantry squad. A mate of the manager turned up with a Rhino, Predator and Land Raider.. of course being the only vehicles they soaked up every Missile the opposite side had, they made it halfway across the table before the Predator took a control hit and collided with the Rhino.. the ref had the players dice off and interpreted the result as the Predator mounting the Rhino, smashing off its guns and breaking its own tracks, whilst the weight broke the Rhino's suspension leaving both vehicles immobilized with the Predator sat on top. The Land Raider lasted another turn before it suffered a control hit which caused it to spin firing at random targets for a turn or two before it blew up..

Once a played a game were the opponent was using a cheesy list that took 3 or so turns to kill everything in my army except for 3 tactical marines being charged by a squad of CSM with a Lord and Apostle.

I managed to hang on for TWO turns after that before I got tabled.

Back in 3rd edition I ran over an Avatar of Khaine with a Rhino. I can't even really remember how the rules for tank shock worked back then at this point, I just remember my opponent opting not to jump out of the way because he didn't think it could harm his avatar in any way, but it definitely killed him.

Anuy time a shot scatters behind the thing that fired it, the best being a PC Devastator who scattered backwards, killed the other 4 members of his squad, survived himself and was left standing and wondering what the feth just happened.

A weaponless Land Speeder going Flat Out (5th Ed) to Ram a Russ in its rear armour, only for the Russ to emerge unscathed and the Speeder to blow up!

My opponent's Crisis Commander and Bodyguard unit (about 250-ish points, I believe) scattering off the table when DSing and rolling a 1 (Destroyed) on the Mishap table... twice in consecutive games. The next time, he walked them on...

So many times, my Ravening plasma-bikers coming on from Outflank, only to lose at least 1 if not both Plasmas in a 3-bike squad to Gets Hot on their first salvo.

A Lone Wolf with no weapon upgrades (and old Mark of the Wulfen) gnawing the arm of a Dreadnought!

Njal rolling 2 powers on his first turn, Perils-ing on both, leading to some confusion about whether I could get Slay The Warlord for exploding my own commander

During a narrative game: Ork trukk with 1 HP left rams an immobilized razorback with 1 HP left, and both get wrecked.

The numerous times Mephiston has committed suicide by gets hot on his plasma pistol, even through his 2+ armor.

First time I showed off a 5e 13-pod list full of fragiosos/blender-noughts, assault marines, and gabe seth with a command squad, my only casualty in the game was seth himself, who challenged a nob and epic failed.

Another 5e game where I was doing great, Dante squad is about to charge a DE raider. (Dante is at 1 wound due to tanking a lot of poison last round.) Knight paladin shoots at another nearby raider, and scatters over to Dante's squad, killing everyone but him. The knight and Dante both charge their respective raiders. The knight blows his up first, and the max range explosion clips dante and takes his last wound off.

One of the best is having a lone gun drone suicide into the other guy's warlord (some SM thing, can't think of the name off the top of my head), in an effort to protect some fire warriors, and it ended up taking it out! Just the chance that it survived is super low, but too take out the guy as well was priceless.

I remember some situations.

1. Chaos Daemons vs old Black Templars. Already 7th player turn, score was 1-1. I only had a unit of 3 pink horrors and some daemonettes on the other side; he had Helbrecht and some marines near the horrors. It was the last charge to be done: if he kills them, the game would end 2-0 for him. If my pink horrors survive, it would end 1-1. To make things worse, I rolled a 4 on the warp storm table... so a puny 6++ (I'd be able to re-roll 1s, but the chances were minimal).

He charges. Doesn't hit with everything (whew), and luckly causes only 3 wounds. All he needs was 1 dead horror and I'd surely get swept off. I pick my dice, pray to Tzeentch and cast them.

Spoiler:
6.
6.
6.

Best. draw. EVER!

2. First time playing new Tau against Imperial Guard. Veterans with a Lord Commissar (his Warlord) equipped with a power fist and down to 1W. He charges a unit of Firewarriors and challenge my Shas'ui. I accept just for the fun of it. I still attack first (glorious I2), hit, wound and he fails his save... Slay the Warlord.

That Shas'ui is now called Tau McLane

3. My Tau (with basically everything from IA3, even the tower Troops) against Dark Eldar with 12 Lances. He gets first turn, fires all those lances... and only hit 4. From those, he manages to do a GLANCING hit against my TX-42 Piranhas (AV 11). He was so flabbergasted he rage-quitted on the spot, hehe.

Well, two games ago...

An Imperial Knight charged my Infantry Platoon of about 30 guys, and a priest. They were spread thinly across a ADL, and when the Knight came in and crushed some of my guys, they slowly formed a conga line of doom. Seriously, a single-file line of death to the Knight, with my custom priest cheering them on whilst slightly out of line. Every turn, the knight would mulch 5-8 guardsmen, and they'd just move up. Well...after 2 turns, my priest got stomped, and then they got crushed after a failed leadership test.

First game in 10 years, Tau vs. Chaos Marines. Two full squads of fire warriors unleash into a squad of Khorne Berserkers.

I hit two, wound one. Berserker makes armor save with a 6.

Berserkers charge, kill the first squad to a man in one glorious round, turn to the second.

Remaining Tau warriors back up and fire. No hits. Berserkers charge, kill everyone in the Tau squad but the Shau'si. He rolls a 2 for his leadership test.

Locked in H-2-H, I issue a challenge. Berserker accepts. Somehow, the Tau kills the Berserker. The rest of the Beserkers fail their morale check. Single Tau runs them down.

"That'll learn 'em!" he shouts before retiring from the field.

Running Joke: My son, who runs the aforementioned Chaos Marines, has terrible luck with deep striking his Terminators. Three games in a row, they failed to show up for the entire battle. We "forged the narrative" they were away having beer & pizza back at HQ while the fight raged on. ("Hey, Matt - those guys getting killed on TV looked a lot like our brothers. What's the chances?" "Oh - snap. That reminds me, the commander sent us orders earlier. It's got some numbers on it, like co-ordinates or something...")

Finally, in a game with me playing Tyranids, my Mawloc at first fails to show up when Deep Striking. We "Forge the Narrative" he's delivering Pizza to the terminators. Next turn the Terminators arrive from Deep Strike, as does the Mawloc - except the Terminators scatter off the board and are destroyed. Once again, we "Forge the Narrative"...

Mawloc: "Knock, Knock."
Chaos Terminators: "Must be the Pizza guy, I'll get it."
Mawloc: "LANDSHARK!!! Nom! Nom!"
*Poof* Mawloc arrives at battlefield.
Mawloc: "Mmm. Need more canned meat. C'mere Khorne Flakes..."

"The rest of the Beserkers fail their morale check." Hey bud not trying to sound condescending, but Berzerkers can't fail moral checks they are fearless! If you were playing with ogryn berzerkers (from the AI: 13 renegades and heretics) they can fail, but standard CSM codex Berzerkers have the special rule "Fearless" allowing them to instantly pass that type of test. If your son is running ogryn berzerkers I would actually like to a batrep of your's because I'm making a renegade army and want to see if they are any good. Have a good day Stormonu!

In a tournament game, one of my Dark Angels tactical squads (actually, half the squad since I had split them into combat squads) was singled out for destruction by a Tau Sky Ray (he didn't like the plasma cannon they were carrying). My opponent hits both markerlights and fires all 6 seeker missiles and the smart missile system into the marines, hitting with most if not all of the weapons. Through a combination of die rolls, not a single one of my marines died. A Deathwing terminator squad later killed that sky ray with their fists. Unfortunately, those muhreens got pulverised next turn by some missilesides and I lost the game, but that moment was great and made the game for me. Earlier in that same game, I killed one member of a 3-man crisis team with an attack bike, and the other two failed their morale check and said "F*** this!" and ran off the board. Great memories...

Shaken Leman Russ Exterminator in 6th fires his Hunter Killer Missile at a fresh Ork Stompa.

6 to hit, 6 to pen, 6 for an Explode result, followed by two more (as these were open ended before the Apoc update). Final death result? Another 6; APOCALYPTIC EXPLOSION.

One Stompa, 15 Nobs, 3 Rhinos, 25 Khorne Bersekers, 7 Nob Bikers and one very unlucky Necron warrior all dead. Best 10 points I ever spent.

Also: Hammer of Wrath killing a full-health Bloodthirster from Space marines using mantis warrior tactics.

The champions of Khorne are evidently vulnerable to headbutts.

1) Saint Celestine and a few Seraphim charge a Tau Drone Team. The Serahim die in overwatch, at this point I am horrified, but Celestine wants revenge... and is promptly crumped in close combat by Tau Drones. This is 6th ed Celestine, on her very last wound.

2) A Helldrake zooms in on his last hull point, my plucky Guard Sniper levels his rifle. On a 6 to hit, he hits. Needing a 6 to rend to do any damage, I roll a 6. Needing to roll a 5 or 6 to have a strength high enough to glance, I roll a five. The Helldrake fails his invul and dies. Opponent walks away.

3) A single Death Company Marine is all that's left of my kill team, jumps all the way across the board, charges a Guardian Squad, kills their Farseer. The Guardians fail their leadership and are swept away by the one Death Company Marine

A game between Space Wolves and Iron Hands with a Knight.
I got to the FLGS halfway through the game, but early enough to witness one of the most epic marines last stands I have ever seen:

Knight charges a squad of 5 gray hunters, including a sergeant with melta bombs that was standing on an objective. Manages to kill two but loses 1 hp to the melta bomb. The knight player continues to roll so poorly and the SW player so well that it takes 2 more turns (so 4 fight sub-phases) and 2 more hp lost to dispatch the remaining 3 marines.

5 marines managged to lock down a knight (and go halfway through its hp) for half a game. The look on the knight's player (who later admitted he had made the charge for a quick objective deny) was priceless )

Best for me:

Back in the day of warp grenades a friend had an ork character who always took one and EVERY time he used it it would bounce back on him and kill his character and never anything else.

Same time frame watching an Inquisitor lord in terminator armor with a displacer field get completely jacked by a mob of gretchin. Used to be near impossible to kill them with solid hitting melee units, but the gretchin just lit him up.

More recently in a scenario driven game watching a friend's dreadnought lose both arm weapons still charging into enemy units and kicking the crap out of them. Was just insanely funny as it just kept going and going.

Almost every game they would be killed down to the man, and by that I mean THE MAN! Scout trooper Heidegger. He has single handedly killed 2 dredknights, and avatar of Khaine. In close combat he has managed to hold his own against a dark eldar beast star filled with razorwings, and hold off three zoanthropes while they kept trying to explode his brains for 3 full turns! Another time he won me a game by being the only scoring unit left on the board on either side when he cowered in ruins in his camo cloak on an objective while being bombarded relentlessly by an entire tank column of IG. He has earned his place in my 7th lists despite the nerfing that sniper scouts took this edition.

This was way back when 1K Sons had two wounds:

Me and my buddy (1K Sons + IG) in a doubles tournament vs a double-Chaos team (double Iron Warriors I believe - they clearly weren't there to have fun).
The more experienced guy: 1K Sons suck. I'll charge my DP into them and wipe them off the table. You charge your Bloodthirster into the Chaos Lord of Tzeentch and score loads of points. (My Chaos Lord wasn't very tough, he was there to provide psychic heavy weapons.)
*Charges.* That's five wounds, so over half your squad (9 strong).
Me: What strength? Him: Seven. I take two rubrics off the table. Him: Nono, I killed five! Me: No, you did five wounds. They have two each. The look on his face was priceless. Over the next few turns my powerfist armed Exalted Champion kills his Prince.

Meanwhile, the Bloodthirster rolls somewhat badly, leaving my Chaos Lord on one wound. He had the staff of something-or-other that can stun people into not striking until the end of the next combat phase. I manage to lay a wound him, and the BT never gets to strike again as every turn I strike at initiative and get a lucky wound keeping him from striking until the end of the next combat phase until the BT keels over :-D :-D, while with judicious use of terrain and rhino drive-bys we outshoot their Iron Warriors off the table..

The guy who said my 1K Sons suck looked like he had eaten something foul after that battle.

My Assault Terminators, led by a TDA Chaplain, charged 5 Chaos Marines. They didn't get a single hit, and all died except the Chaplain.

He died in the next round of combat.

I stopped playing 40k not long after.

2nd edition...

assault marine with bolt pistol on overwatch shoots a rhino packed with troops, hits the cuploa, causes flashback to the tracks, destroys rhino, kills everyone inside, rhino flips and hits a landspeeder, landspeeder loses control, crases into a dreadnaught, dreadnaught explodes and kills more troops around him, including the rider of a bike. bike loses control, hits the assault marine, and he dies too.

both armies tabled (assault marine was my last guy)

Played a doubles game (1000 points each) against some blood angels and militarum tempestus backed up by an imperial knight. My partner was playing astra militarum and I was SoB. This was the first time I ever fought an Imperial knight, and the blood angels player always wiped the floor with me any time I fought him (pre-7th mephiston was a beast).

Anyways, we are backed into a corner, turn 3 trying to hide behind some cover from that stupid rapid fire battle cannon and things are looking grim. Blood angels player attempts to deep strike a land raider but mishaps, finally a lucky break. He rolls and it turns out we get to place it. After some deliberation we set a plan, that imperial knight is getting awfully close and will like charge down a narrow path between two buildings to get to us. These buildings are literally the last thing separating us from their armies. So we place the mishapped land raider at the entrance to this path to block the Imperial knight for a turn, buying time for a miracle we need. The rest of their turn is rather uneventful as they have to position their armies to get better LoS on us turtling behind these buildings.

On our turn we get salvation in the form of a Valkyrie carrying some guards with meltas (veterans I think) and I had the forethought to start positioning my SoB with meltas to threaten the imperial knight aswell. The emperor smiled upon us that day as our meltas tore into the knight and felled the traitorous construct. I didn't know this but apparently when a knight dies it rolls on a table and different things can happen, the knight player didn't know it either since his Knight had never been destroyed. Spent some time reading the rules and rolling dice, turns out the knight stomps forward in its death throes... right over the land raider we had placed there the turn before. In one fell swoop we had taken out our opponents two scariest and biggest units. We used their deaths as a rally to charge are armies forth and by turn 7 we had pushed them all the way back to their table edge and captured all objectives along the way. A glorious victory for the faithful of the emperor!

Other small moments include:

-Having two eldar jetbikes beat the tar out of a completely kitted out necron overlord from their previous dex.

-Same blood angels player mishaps his landraider again in a different match and I place it in the far back corner behind a hill in some difficult terrain. BA players rolls a 1 and immobilizes, the LR and it's deadly cargo are now useless as it came in on turn four and they have too far to walk and LR has no LoS to anything.

-A lone eldar ranger falling back after getting assaulted by Hive tyrant. On my turn he continues to fall back but takes a snap shot, rolls a six, rolls to wound gets a 4, HT rolls armour save and gets a 1. HT had one wound left and so that ranger nets me slay the warlord.

-Most recently against the 7th edition necron dex I assaulted a squad of 20 cultists into a unit of 5 lych guard with scythes, a cryptek and oberon. The cultists were bare, not fearless and had no support. They killed all the lych guard, the cyrptek and tied up oberon until the final game turn where they finally broke and fell back. best 90 points I ever spent. Sadly that same game my ecto-forgefiend on turn 2 fired 3 times, scattered to my warlord, killed him netting my opponent first blood and slay the warlord, second shot scattered back and and hit himself, luckily he saved with his 5++, third shot hit but necron made his RP rolls. Rolled two 1's on gets hot and whiffed the dice on saves and vehicle gets hot rule stuff, doing two HP of damage to myself. Next round my 5 terminators DS but mishap, wiping them off the table. the forgefiend uses daemonforge, and fires 3 times, doesn't do any damage, doesn't get hot but then rolls a 1 on daemonforge rule killing himself. that game my opponent didn't fire a single shot at my warlord, terminators or forgefiend yet they all died. So painful... but dem cultists rocked!

Deathstrike Missile was fired danger close to my Fortress walls in order to try wiping out an Ork horde bearing down on my defenders.

The Missile scattered backwards and destroyed 3 sections of my Fortress, leaving only the Missile bunker, and killing 35 men (20 of which were veterans), my Inquisitor and his retinue. Also caught in the blast was my last Tarantula turret.

Suffice it to say, I had effectively tabled myself and my opponent cleaned up the survivors, including the offending Deathstrike Missile Launcher, the following turn

Back in a 4th edition tournament, I was playing DE. A single SM scout squad Sergeant was in range of a Raider with a Archon w/ shadow field and 5 incubi in.

He levelled his lone bolt pistol, and downed the raider. It exploded. All Incubi died, and the Archon lost a wound and his shadow field.

I still managed to win the game, but that moment of pure horror has scarred me to this day.

First thing the Ork Stompa fires a massive blast over the guy with the Relic. In one shot more the 75% of the BAs are gone. We call the game and start over. The shot heard around the world.

after he stopped cursing long enough to find out why I was laughing, I explained.

"ap2, plus open topped makes those ones into threes. weapon destroyed, the trukk only has 1 gun. so the next one goes up to immobilized. the last one goes up to immobilized, cant go down to weapon destroyed, so goes up to wrecked."

i then rolled Ka-boom on the ramshackle test.

After a squad of Pathfinders (Eldar) was assaulted by 2 Assault Terminators, and somehow killed 1, the lone surviving Pathfinder falls back (Leadership 8-8=0), about 2". My opponent charges in with his last Terminator. Regroup test - . The pathfinder gathers his wits to take a shot. Roll To Hit - Roll To Wound 3+ Invulnerable save: .

The only thing I can think of that was funnier was Zombie-spam vs Eldar. Typhus charges into a squad of Fire Dragons. Typhus challenges the Exarch. After the ensuing slaughter all that remains is a Spawn. Exarch was dead, Typhus was "promoted".

Well, I got a new one. we have a dark eldar-that guy who, unlike most that guys, is hilariously bad at the game. So eventually the tyranid player that he's lost over 20 games to in a row gets with me to build a list that he will win against.

We make it some 5 man stealers, some pyrovores, a bunch of point-sink melee carnifexes, and a swarmlord.

Dark eldar guy gave up on turn 3 because of how thrashed he was getting. (He never plays out a game if he's taken too many losses.)

I, unfortunately, did not get to see the game. They just called me and told me that he conceded on turn three, at which point I was like "how is he so bad I don't even \o.o/"

6th ed, Orks versus CSM, 1000 points. My Trukks get beat up, then one after another end up rolling on the Ramshackle table. 1st Trukk: Kareen! Right back into my deployment zone, stopping just in front of my backfield Gretchin. They breathe a sigh of relief and go back to being lazy Grots... and then it exploded, killing many of them. 2nd Trukk: Kareen! back into my DZ, stopping in front of the disembarked Boyz from Trukk 1, then explodes and inflicts several wounds on the poor Ladz. 3rd Trukk, also Kareens into my DZ, killing more troops. It was pretty much over after that. One of the funniest games I've ever lost.

We try, but he's not just a bad player, he's also "that guy." He won't listen to anyone, gets super-upset when he has models die, gives up early... After the tyranid loss he's talking about selling his army and quitting. (Not a great loss, but still, the number of players around here is slim.)

Another game I was playing a carnifex heavy list, I have 2 fully healthy dreadknights getting ready to charge two different units of 3 carnifex... go to cast force, both knights perils, both knights roll a 1 then both fail their leadership and both get sucked into the warp. The chaos gods were some reason watching out for ol one eye and his hunting pack that day

Back in 4th edition, you didn't have hull points, but you had an unforgiving damage table. To put this in context, a "6" as a glancing hit would wreck vehicles.

I'm running Guard with Chimeras. My opponent runs Catachans.

One Catachan with a flamethrower sneaks up next to two of my Chimeras. He hits both with the templates.

He rolls two sixes, glancing both Chimeras.

He rolls two sixes, wrecking them.

The Cadians died due to faulty products. The rest of the Chimeras were recalled and returned to the Forgeworld they were made, by dumping them on top of the Techpriests.

About a week ago I played a game against a Grey Knight player. He managed to seize the initiative. I thought was was in for a world of hurt; but, when it came to the psychic phase he managed to peril every roll. He then rolled a one and failed his leadership rolls. 4s, 5s, and 6s were rolled all around, and saves were failed. When all was said and done there were 2 units left on the board. My Iron Hands figured they would finish the poor sods off and managed to either miss or the GK passed their saves. My Chapter Master and bikes had to engage the remaining 2 models in melee and didn't kill them until the second turn. It was so Bizarre we just rolled with it. In all I lost one biker, and he basically tabled himself.

Guardsman #1 - "Our weapons are useless!"

Company Commander - "Use everything, anything!"

Necron Lord - "QUERY: WHAT IS THAT FLOWING MATERIAL DISPLAYING YOUR WIN/LOSS RATIO? IT'S MECHANISM CANNOT BE CORRUPTED"

Guardsman #2 - "Wait, I got this" *Strangles the Necron lord with the Standard

Necron Lord - "SYNTAX ERROR: EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN INITIATED"

Recently, I was playing a game with my IA Ork Mek list against a space marine army with a las-predator and two devastator squads armed with lascannons and missile launchers. First turn, they blow up one Deff Dredd and maim another. Things look grim. His devastator squads are positioned at the far end of the table from the rest of my army. So, it is up to my Killa Kans and the mek following them with a kustom force field to charge into the fire. For four turns, my killa kans casually stroll through the space marine army - at a leisurely walker pace, of course - slaughtering terminators, enemy walkers, the predator - about 75% of his entire army apart from the two devastator squads. How you ask? For three turns in a row, both devastator squads missed at least 50% of their shots, and the rest failed to do any damage (let that last part sink in, lacannons only fail to glance on a roll of a 1 and missile launchers on a 2!). Every so often one or two would actually damage a kan, at which point I made Gork or possibly Mork saw fit to permit me to pass my kustom forcefield save! Our theory, the space marine devastator squads were having an existential crisis and were wrapped up in debating. The whole situation went something like this...

Billy the space marine, "I mean devoting every second of every day to defending the imperium, all blessings to the emperor, is great and all, but when was the last time you saw a beach not covered in bioplasma or the taint of chaos? Just like, really soaked in a sunset while relaxing on a beach?" Jimmy two toes, "Yeah, emperor's protection, I just really want to pet a kitten without crushing him with Lenny strength, emperor's will be done." Gerald Bigsby, "The Slaanesh recruiter, may the god emperor strike him down with divine fury and infinitive merciless wrath, had some puppies the other day. I accepted a lolly pop, but totally didn't pet the puppies. I know that road leads to damnation, but when was the last time you really just treated yoself?" Steve, "You know what, all praise to the most glorious and illustrious emperor seated upon the golden throne, protector of humanity, the light it the darkness, purity in a galaxy of taint, i'm going to go grab an orange julius...wait, is it just me or did it just get quiet all of a sudden?"

Fighting against 5th edition codex Necrons with my Sentinels of Terra/Militarum Tempestus army, I managed to kill my opponents Overlord on a Command Barge...twice. Both times, he came back from the "ever-living" roll with 1W. His running away and my deep strike scatter resulted in my Scion Command Squad with 4 Meltas deep striking near him. I unloaded on it, killing it once again, and once again it reappeared. On his turn, he opens fire on the command squad, reducing them to one Scion and the Tempestor Prime, and charges in for the kill. Completely forgetting that I can attack the barge with krak grenades, the Tempestor Prime comes out swinging with a plain old basic sword...and hits once...that one hit lands a wound. The Overlord then fails his armor save...and misses his reanimation roll. After Lascannons, Grav-cannons, and a whole squad of Meltas cooking this guy, it came down to one Scion Sergeant swinging a kitchen knife to finally take down this little, metal bastard. I had a hell of a laugh over that one.

Another good one i was reminded of recently.

early 6th, I was playing a game against Necrons. his army was mostly on foot, with a ghost ark. i was using trukk boyz and rotate shenanigans (we calculated it out to 1.25 inches gained by rotating my trukks)

Note: I had both red paint and rams on all my trukks

Somehow, one of my trukks made it to turn 3, very close to the 20 warriors +cryptek and lord he kept in his DZ to hold an objective.

i checked the angle, and found i could tank shock this squad without the cryptek or lord getting to Death or Glory. (i had 2 hullpoints left, so the gauss glance was not a concern.)

to maximize the LOS blocking i was going for, i declared a 13 inch tank shock (gotta love red paint) which would put my trukk 3 inches from his board edge, and at an angle to prevent his cryptek, and about half the squad from shooting at my wagon.

he rolls his leadership: 11 fallback distance:3" we spend nearly 20 minutes pouring over the rulebook to figure out what to do because nobody in our group had EVER had this occure.

I double tank shocked his squad. on the second fallback roll,he needed 5 or less to stay on the board. he got a 6.

one, empty truck with no gun (the previous hullpoint loss was from a weapon destroyed result) made 22 necrons run off the table.

5th Edition tournament, playin' da Ladz. Shokk Attack Gun goes awry on the very first shot, detonating and taking with it:

The Mek (of course).
Two Boomgun Looted Wagons.
12 Lootas.

I think it was about a quarter of my points and almost all of my fire support. Needless to say, I lost quite badly. As I recall I failed to see the humor in it at the time...

Alternately, my Grot Mob being charged by a Lictor - and killing it in close combat. That was in 2nd edition. Then in 5th edition the same Grot mob charged three 'Cron Heavy Destroyers sitting on an objective. Killed one, stripped a hit off another, broke the unit and ran it down to claim the objective and win me the game.

I'm modelling 'em up as cybergrots in honor of their dramnatic and rather dubious achievements.

My two teef.

Back during a flgs apocalypse battle. It was a "narrative" campaign. Imperial armies vs xenos and chaos. I was playing orks at the time. The goal was to get the relic and bring it back to base. But the relic was defended by an avatar of kaine & 3 Eldar titans. My stompa filled with boyz and the boss went through these portals that were part of the game and came out right next to the biggest one... long story short I charged fought in close combat for 3 turns and destroyed it. Survived the explosion but was sadly killed by the other titans. Eldar players correct me but i'm pretty sure that the titan I killed was about 5x as many points as me. Also my gretchin squad snuck in to the battlefield and stole the relic.

3rd edition during a RTT. Opponent playing DE and had a Raider with the ability/gear (I don't remember which) to turn pens into glances after it moved. Raider loaded with a full Archon/Incubi squad with all the bells and whistles, hiding behind a mountain and ready to fly out and chop me into ribbons.

I get first turn (so Raider hasn't moved). First shot of the game was a guess range with a Whirlwind, hit rear armor of the raider. Pen, open-topped destroyed with max roll, Raider and entire squad destroyed. Almost half his army gone with a single Whirlwind shot.

I just had to buy him a beer after that.

In my IG there is a basic infantry man armed with a plasmagun and nicknamed 'Lucky'. Why? Because, with only one or two exceptions, he has blown himself up on his first shot whilst failing to even hurt the enemy. Its become a running joke.

A game myself and my friend where playing recently: 2nd turn, my IG vs his SM's. My lascannon AT section fires on his Landraider. Two miss, one scores a 5. Laughing and saying it will do nothing I role for penetration. A 6. I role for damage. A 6. Role for blast. A 6. His Landraider and half the squad inside it vanish in a fireball.

The same game: His Vanguard Veterans deepstrike in and assault a standard IG squad in some woods. The Sargent challenges mine and I accept. He has a double handed weapon so my Sargent strikes first. I hit once, wound him and he fails his save. The squad is subsequently wiped out but that was an epic battle.

An older game, same opponent: My CC is reduced to one wound after a long battle. Having just finished assisting in the clearing out of a Scout squad hiding in some ruins he assaults my opponents custom primarch. He amazingly whiffs his attacks and I choose to do my CC's attacks first (the Standard bearer and Medic where also still alive) I hit and wound him. He has already taken damage (2 demolition charges and a melta gun reduced him to two wounds) He needs a 2+. he roles 2 1's. But wait! He had cast that psychic power that lets him reroll. He rolls again and gets a.... 1 and a 1.
Now that was epic enough but my CC then proceeded to lead his last two surviving squad mates against a Vindicator, assaulting and destroying it. Sadly the standard bearer was lost in the blast though. A 6 man squad of Sternguard then blasted them, murdering the Medic. Enraged my commander charged them, vaporising one with his Plasma Pistol and engaging them in hand to hand. Remember, he had but one wound left. Only one attack hurts him and that is saved. He then proceeds to butcher the squad.
The game ended with Lukas Caine, my CC, standing over the bloody corpses of the enemy, roaring his defiance to the uncaring universe.

I was playing CSM against a horde of Orks, for most of the game I had a single squad Terminator squad running around with a Sorcerer who was kitted out with the black mace.
For the entire game my sorcerer was putting a brutal smackdown on anything that came close, he got a whole bunch of roles on the Boon table around 12 or so throughout the game, no less than three of which
gave an extra D3 roles. He became unbelievably beefed up, but in the end he was killed by a swarm of gretchin. The mental picture of this unbelievable scion of Chaos going down under a wave of shrieking green
toddlers still gets me to this day.

One kid I introduced to 40k was having trouble with his grey knights especially against blood angels (the ward dex for both at the time). H felt that it was impossible for him to win with his Crowe Purifier army. I watched a game between him and the local BA player and lo and behold, he was swept. I asked him if I could have a try and he said sure. So the BA player and I went head to head in the single most bloody battle I've played.

The dice weren't entirely in my favor - I hadn't performed the appropriate rituals to the dice gods - and at turn 5, all that was left on the board was Castellan Crowe locked in a duel against the Sanguinor. We were both down to a single wound at this point, but I felt confident that Crowe would hold out. So we do our rolls and Crowe whiffs his attacks failing to wound. The Sanguinor is able to deal two wounds and I fail one. The BA player had a smug look on his face as he began declaring his victory. I asked him to hold off because I wasn't done. He had a look of utter confusion on his face and then I told him that Crowe had a chance to take his opponent down with him in close combat. I was certain though it didn't matter considering how I had just rolled a ridiculous amount of ones - assumed the dice gods were punishing for playing an army that wasn't my own - and in that moment of surrender, I guess the gods smiled upon me. Crowe took down the Sanguinor.

So there we were gawking at a now empty table when the store owner walks up and asks if we're starting a game. We shake our heads and tell him we just finished. He asks us who won and I just point to the grey knight codex which is open to Crowe's entry, tapping his special rules. The store owner looks at it, and then it dawns upon him what just happened and he practically screams, "No fething way!"

That was the first and only time I had witnessed such a complete and utter case of mutually assured destruction.

Now that in itself wasn't that funny but the BA player to this day gets ticked and claims that I stole his win from him. I just think he's upset that that was the only time he ever came close to beating me in all the times we've played. And i take a certain amount of smug satisfaction from knowing that.

I feel bad a little for it but the guy liked to play unpainted black primer guard which i couldnt tell what they had and do gunline thing all the time along with cheating off and on and won most games blah blah blah so in a way Karma .

Several turns later, he tables me with all of my orks having ran away or run down because of combat or shooting causalties.

He lost one marine in that squad, because of dangerous terrain.

Not my game, but one I was watching, Imperial Guard vs. Space Wolves. Guard player pops Marbo into play in a ruin behind a squad of Long Fangs who are hiding behind a low wall, and tosses his demo charge hoping to get them all with a nice big blast that gets around their cover save. The charge scatters back onto Marbo, who promptly kills himself by failing his own cover save.

Edit; Oh, and I almost forgot this story of total crap luck: In a game of my Wolves vs. Chaos Space Marines, I was going first. I rolled for the power that gives the unit a 4+ invulnerable save, double 6s, Rune Priest takes a wound. I roll for Prescience, double 1s, Rune Priest kills himself. We then had to look up the rules to see whether or not I could give my opponent both Slay the Warlord and First Blood by offing my own commander on my first turn.

Haha I hadn't even thought about that, didn't know his stats back then. Like I said, we still laugh at what happened, but this was 10 years ago, we probably fethed up the rules quite a bit to get to that!
