Boooom!
I took a mishmashed Scum list of whatever I could find in my hastily assembled box o' ships in a 100pt 3 way battle today at the library thing. Something like a properly kitted Kavil, Sarisu with a laser cannon (I know, but I wanted to try it lol) and a mini swarm of Zs against 3 rebel ships and a gaggle of Tie-whatevers. Managed a fairly solid victory, thanks largely to Kavil for one-shotting both of the tie interceptors out of his arc (like a boss) and properly prioritizing shots against the most damaged ships. The Z's were basically pathetic but they ate up shots, I won't complain.
Gonna try to paint something up before the end of the month...

Finished popping out battle systems stuff, scatter is all assembled, I just need to build the buildings now. And occasional superglue strengthening.

Post by: Ensis Ferrae
I must concur... I've done 4 House Hawskshroud knights now, and building the armor up from white is, IMHO, a much easier task than building from black....
One thing that has helped me immensely in that, is as the layer paints begin to dry up on the brush, dip the brush into your water and hit the armor again turning the paint almost into a wash. It'll take an extra coat or two, but keeping the yellows thin and moving is key to brushing something that large.

Ah. Technically that's the 4th Edition Codex.
I didn't finish the Guardians, but I did at least get the base coat of yellow and the Agrax Earthshade wash done, so now I "just" need to do the helmets (blue-blue ink-blue), armour highlights (Averland Sunset), guns (black-grey edging) and various details (soulstones, etc)... and the bases.

Yeh, he's enormous. Towers over the Sigmarite Stormcast, and they make Space Marines look titchy. I'm not quite sure what to make of that to be honest.

Finishing up a color proof for a friend - Canoptek wraith in the Nihilakh Dynasty colors. The gold ended up rather amusing; if I hold the model upside down, it all looks the same color of copper. But if it's rightside up, the shading is more apparent, and it is clearly gold. Strange trick of metallic paints I guess. Going to wait until she is around to finish off the turquoise, so I can show her how to do that.
Otherwise, shading up the red on a Blood Angels Contemptor Dreadnought. I cannot believe how simple the model is. He's going to look really plain if I do not do a bunch of freehand on him...

Trying to nail down the finer points of a Warlock for D&D 5th editon. Want him to start as a cleric or fighter and come upon his warlock pact on accident by level 2. He'd slowly get more distant, cold, and alien as he furthered his pact with a great old one. Problem is I can see three or four good starts/paths that appeal to me and each of which would not insignificantly alter the early to middle game playstyle and at least the initial personality.
Meh its fun to tinker but none of the mechanics are really making any one build stand above the others, and most of the back story stubs I've considered are interesting (to me).
On the plus side he'll need a custom model, not a lot of medium-heavy armored mage types armed with a shield and staff just floating around

Two and a half hours spent searching for some Chapter pads and Wolf Guard Terminator bitz. No success.
Did find:
1. Spare Furioso Dread on the sprue.
2. An extra two boxes of Sternguard.
3. 15 vanilla Terminators, off the sprue, in a bag.
4. Unbuilt Lizardmen Blood Bowl team.
And I think it's officially 'too much' when you find not just a shoe box in your hall cupboard labelled 'Misc Forge World', but when you find another one labelled 'More Misc Forge World'.
Yikes...

I keep my poor finished mars attacks guys in their carry case because they take poor photos on their stock bases, so today is like to get them off of those and onto some clear acrylics.
I'd also like to arrange my battle systems into a 2x4' stretch of road and buildings, and then maybe get some zombies and survivors out for some photos. We'll see though.

Finished off the contemptor. Stuck a whole load of transfer to him to make him look a little more interesting. If anyone is thinking about avoiding the text scripts from Betrayal at Calth, they are awesome. Pretty easy to snip into appropriate sizes and get to lay nice. Also, who knew those white wings from the Imperial Knights would work to blood angel-ify a contemptor (those giant greaves were too big to leave bare)?
I keep thinking his name should be Hermes for those wings.

I have had a really busy year and not been able to get any under coating done. Meanwhile, the plastic legions have grown. Today I made use of what might be the last day of English summer to catch up on all the under coating done...
- aprox 35 storm boyz - plus the leader
- 5 lootas
- aprox 40 boyz
- aprox 50 grots - hello Kill Team!
- entire contents of Deathwatch Overkill
- some Nurgles with swords
- some gaunts
- Imperial Bastion
- 4 battlewagons
- Aegis defence line
- two sets or Ork barricades
- Weirdboy
-Ghazkull
- Ork Kommando boss- forgot the name
- the Tau from Kill Team
I normally collect Orks so am super-excited about collecting KT size forces from other codexes
This will set me up for lots of painting..all the way through to next summer hopefully.
I also need to get a lot of the stuff magnetised. The elites and stormboyz are all done but there is a lot to do - especially the fragile models.
After that, I want them table top ready.

Sorting some Nids out for an Apoc game on the 24th, will as is traditional make the list on the 23rd.
Tonights job was adding dilute PVA to the bases to soak and seal them, after putting the mixed herb scatter on last night and assembling on Saturday.
Hopefully Friday night will see priming and Saturday the other base colours and wash, just the bases to paint and the dry brushing to do next week on a fair few of them...
- Tyrant (forge world arms)
- 10x gargoyles
- 4x warriors
- 12x ripper bases
- 3x forge world big spore mine thingies
- 1x lictor
Sadly the extra Raveners won't make it in time, nor will the zillions of spore mines..
Fun little models really

Cleaning up the room where all my gaming stuff is I found a box that a friend of my mother's had given her from some old stuff her son had. I'd never really looked at it but decided to take a peek inside. Interesting things to note:
1. Old plastic/metal hybrid Predator with all the vehicle accessories stuck to it. Painted black with flames. I thought that was odd, but it will become obvious why in a moment.
2. The original Captain Tycho, as in the "Blood Angel Captain" because he became Captain Tycho in White Dwarf 166.
3. A few random assault Marines (the old lead ones!). Again, black and flames.
4. The original Legion of the Damned Tactical Squad.
I was floored by the last one. Always wanted one, never got around to buying it ('cause I was a kid when it came out around the time the Ultramarine's Codex came out). All the painting is awful, but the minis are there. Sadly no Sergeant Centurius, but the old Vet Sergeant was in there.

Painted the Imperial Fist Terminator and finished the Dire Avenger Exarch from the Relic expansions. Sealed the Broodlord and did some work on the Daemonette and Berserker. It'll take me a bit longer to finish stuff up, but I intend to have every Relic bust painted in short order. Pretty much letting my housemate run the Terminator any time we play, since the dice rolled against her ALWAYS roll 6 (explode for additional damage). Doesn't matter which die is used, or who rolls it against her.

Experimented with Tamiya clear red through the airbrush at 1:1 thinning, hmm, goes on a bit like a filter, also has the same issue as above over the VMA Chrome, but not over other colours.
Meh, more experimentation required, aiming for a clear red over gold for the armour panels on the knight, trimmed gold...

Played a game of Devil's Run. I lost, but then the guy making off with the stash at the end was the only unwrecked vehicle on the road by that point.
Then played the first scenario in 2nd Ed. Mansions of Madness. We won, but I lost due to my insanity making it pretty much impossible to claim a personal win (I'd have had to clear every single search token on the map and there were at least a dozen left which were a bit tricky to get to when wounded, with a broken arm and in combat with a deep one, a cultist and the priest of dagon. My investigative partner managed to get out alive with the evidence (and an insanity which fortunately worked with the small shopload of gear he was carrying to count as a win).

Experimenting with Tamiya clear paints, aiming for a warm metallic red so have tried over gold and silver, so far gold is winning but its close.
Have a VMA gold on order so should be able to get a better base coat, currently torturing some 1/100 scale cars as experimental models.
Also repainted some 1/100 model lorries for team yankee, a pair in UN colours a pair of just generic ones

Had another bash with the Tamiya clear red, just thinned very slightly and it works, some model air gold arrived today as well.
Have just finished priming three of the push fit CSM models to have a play with tomorrow with the golds, an airbrush and zenith highlighting before an overcoat in red once its all cured, likely to be a few days as liquid mask is needed so the base has to cure right.
If I can get it to work though should look decent and while it will take a while overall the time per model will be low enough to make doing these in batches ideal.
Figure a new army for Apoc games.. going with CSM and eventually daemons as must have 3k-4k of them in boxes laying around...

Despite the fact that I'm on vacation right now, I managed to accomplish something hobbywise: I visited a GW store for the very first time. I have to say I wish there was one in my hometown instead of 2 hours away, as it was a very cool store and the guy working there was very friendly and helpful (no horror story of an overly pushy salesman here!). I bought a Tactical Squad since I am slowly building up to being able to run a full Battle Company for my Dark Angels. The guy tried to upsell me a DA upgrade kit (which I would have gladly bought) but the store was out of stock of them. Oh well.

Knight is starting to get a bit of paint...
See, I do actually have one.. honest guv.
Needs to cure then some Tamiya clear red on the armour panels.
Also picked up Dark Vengeance, finally, Chaos stuff assembled, the Dark Angels will have a bit of work with a file to become generic marines, likely to end up alongside the chaos stuff but able to run using the normal book as well if I fancy it - otherwise just filler in a chaos force.
Picked up Traitors Hate as well, seems decent so far as a book, dare say the text is full of logic WTF moments, but seems fun enough for now.

Well my tablet didn't charge properly last night so I spent this morning writing army lists for Batman on the train the old fashioned way. With a pen. And paper.
I'm pretty sure I've made up some impressively terrible lists too. Ones I'm pretty sure Batman could take out singlehandedly

Continuing working on my DV chaos stuff, more or less sorted the Tamiya clear red now, any area bigger than a postage stamp = mask and airbrush, smaller than that and three thin coats with a brush works well enough (thankfully).
Cultists in progress, had tried pre-shading with the airbrush and glazes, gave up on that when it didn't work too well and back to normal painting as yet.

I am painting a very cool Franken Stien conversion I bought on EBAY for $10usd.
Remember the back patches everybody was wearing on jean jackets in the '80's? I'm gonna have this Frank with a AC/DC back patch.

Played my third or so solo game of Execution Force last night. I had been playing it incorrectly (drawing room tiles incorrectly and applying damage wrong---both because I was making assumptions instead of reading RAW).
Last night's game, I managed to win without losing any of the assassins in the process. That counts as two 'achievements'.

Has anyone in this thread had experience with Mantic/Deadzone models? Looking at picking up a set of Enforcers, but would like some community feedback first. Been exploring some non-GW options, enjoying Maelstroms Edge currently. Mantic is cheaper than GW, but is there a significant drop off in quality?

Swished a jar of acetone that has Ahriman quietly forgoing his paint on.
Discovered the lid wasn't on right, then discovered how fast acetone evaporates. Also discovered cats don't like the smell, will file that one for the future.
Also assembled 10 Chaos Space Marines, discovering as I did so that I have no fething idea how to equip them.. close combat load out it is then. Will prime them tomorrow, and continue to finish the cultists etc from DV.

The older restic enforcers can be a royal pain to pose (especially the arm/gun assembly) but look pretty good once built. The newer plastics are easier to build but a little softer in detail. Still look ok once built and painted though. The pic below is some raw resin and newer plastic enforcer parts. The other one is some I did mostly with a silver primer spray and black wash (so the detail is sharp enough to hold a wash well).

Yeah, the old restic multipart enforcers are a pain in the rear.
The hard plastic Enforcer sprues are pretty neat though. - I will say though I can never quite decide if I should cut off the front of their neck or not.
The hard plastic Enforcer Peacekeepers are pretty darn great though, I'm a big fan of them.
The guy on the right in this pic is a plastic Enforcer, with resin shotgun and shield. The guy on the left is the restic Enforcer special character for Dreadball

Trying to recruit each of my players to build two PDF buildings each, for a Mordheim campaign - in theory, this will give us two dozen models.
My actual expectation is that we will have a dozen models, mostly built by three players.
