Captain Victoria Haley is a Warcaster for Cygnar in Warmachine Mk2.
Background and Description
Haley's village and family were taken from her by Cryx, who seemed to seek out her and her twin. She survived, and eventually found herself joining the Cygnaran military after stopping a Laborjack with an instinctual arcanical command. In her battles she seeks to fight off Cryx, wielding her Vortex Spear as a measure against their spellcasters.[1]
Special Abilities and Weapons

- Arcane Vortex: Spend a focus out of activation to negate a spell targeting a nearby model.
- Spells
- Arcane Bolt: Offensive spell
- Arcane Shield: Upkeep unit/model spell that increases the target's ARM.
- Chain Lightning: Offensive spell that causes Electrical Damage and strikes a random number of additional targets.
- Deadeye: Grants an additional die to a target model/unit's first ranged attack roll.
- Scramble: Once per turn Offensive spell that makes an enemy warjack randomly make a full advance, knocking down smaller based models that it moves through. Target model is knocked down when hitting an obstacle or obstruction.
- Temporal Barrier: Debuffs enemy model defense in her control area and prevents them from running or charging.
Strengths
- Large Control Area gives her plenty of room to control warjacks, apply her feat, or apply Temporal Barrier against enemy models.
- Arcane Vortex gives her a spell deterrent so long as she has a focus point on herself. It can protect her as well as any nearby models from being assassinated solely on the basis of enemy spells.
- Versatile Spell List gives her options against both infantry and warjacks.
- High Focus Stat allows her to run powerful warjacks to deal with warbeasts.
- High Defense and Set Defense protects her from charges from non-elite troops and models that need to boost to hit her.
- First Strike: Although Temporal Barrier is expensive and must be re-cast every turn, it removes the requirement to boost attacks for most warjacks and gives her models the chance to either alpha strike charge the enemy or shoot them before they reach her lines.
Weaknesses
- Low ARM and Wounds means that shots that DO hit her WILL hurt her. Heavy ranged attacks, for example, will do straight damage or damage +1 against her, taking out nearly 2/3s of her wounds when boosted.
- Temporal Barrier must be recast every turn rather than be upkept. With Arcane Shield upkept, Haley is already spending 4 focus a turn, leaving 3 focus for warjacks, spell attacks, and arcane vortex protection.
Synergies
- Grenadier: Play the deviation game with accurate arcing blast templates that generate additional shots from Trenchers and Blitz.
- Lancer: Arc Chain Lightnings, Deadeye, Arcane Shields, or even a long distance Scrambler.
- Thorn: After Arcing spells, move Thorn out of the way with Reaction Drive. Thorn's Affinity with Haley grants her the ability to channel spells even if an opponent has tried to smash it in melee. Heavies can take a Chain Lightning or even a Scramble spell.
- Centurion: Arcane Shield the warjack for an ARM 24 Warjack that will get many chances to hit targets slowed down by Temporal Barrier, and prevent charges against it with its Polarity Field
- Hammersmith: Push enemies an extra inch with Blitz creating more Beat Back attacks, or make it easier to Critical smite with Temporal Barrier.
- Thunderhead: With Temporal Barrier and Blitz, generate even more Sustained Attacks by saving focus to buy additional attacks or boost damage rather than attack rolls.
- Arcane Tempest Gun Mages: Deadeye increases their chances of scoring a Critical Brutal shot or Thunderbolt knockdown, Blitz generates additional arcane attacks, and Temporal Barrier drops target defense enough that criticals are even more likely to happen.
- Black 13th Gun Mage Strike Team: With their already high RAT, they should be able to aim and fire Brutal Shots into melee with Temporal Barrier up to score big hits without using the Black Penny effect.
- Long Gunners: Generate an insane number of ranged shots that can be Combined with Blitz.
- Sword Knights: Prevent them from getting charged while in Defensive Line with Temporal Barrier and generate additional Flank attacks and Penetrating Strikes for extra damage against warjacks and warbeasts.
- Trenchers: Generate an additional attack, ranged or melee, during an Assault, clearing out a large swath of infantry, or dealing two powerful shots at a high ARM target (such as a warcaster or warjack).
- Rangers: Stack Temporal Barrier debuffs with Mark Target buffs to make sure that anything you want to shoot with will hit.
- Storm Lances: Protect them from medium strength attacks with Arcane Shield, and use Blitz to generate an additional attack after they charge, or during a ride-by to help them break clear of tarpit infantry.
- Squire: Extend the effective range of Haley's Feat and Temporal Barrier, help her re-roll important offensive spells, or just give her more focus to drive a warjack.
- Precursor Knights Unit with Precursor Knight OFficer and Standard Unit Attachment: Generate an additional In Morrow's Name attack from each model for additional hard hitting melee attacks.
