Dawnguard Invictors Unit

Dawnguard Invictors are a unit for the Retribution of Scyrah faction in Warmachine MkII.

Background and Description

Dawnguard Invictors are the mainstay of the Dawnguard and serve multiple roles on the battlefield.[1]

Theme Armies

Strengths

  • Versatility: Dawnguard models are well armored, can fight at range, and fight well in melee. Defensive Line makes them difficult to eliminate outright, CRA makes them a threat from afar, and their above average Melee Attack makes them consistent melee combatants. Add a warjack or two to trigger Flanking, and the Invictors are more likely to hit a target than the melee Specialists, the Sentinels.

Weaknesses

  • Slow, for an Elf: Dawnguard units are the slowest models in the Retribution army, slower even than their heavy myrmidons.
  • You Pay for What You Get: A full unit of Dawnguard Invictors with the UA is 12 points, making it one of the more expensive units in the game.

Synergies

  • Adeptis Rahn: Polarity Field on the Invictors will give the opponent difficulty with dealing with the high ARM models that are in Defensive Line since they will not be able to charge them.
  • Dawnlord Vyros: Bird's Eye grants Battlegroup models a 360 front arc, increasing the area that is threatened by Flanking.
  • Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper:Kaelyssa can safely shoot through them with Phantom Hunter cast on herself while receiving protection from the Dawnguard's ARM 17 Defensive Line . With these defenses active, enemies will be hard pressed to generate enough high POW attacks to kill models while The Vanishing is up when these models simply cannot be charged.
  • Ravyn, Eternal Light: The Invictors' Sword Cannons can have a range of 14" from Snipe and the Unit Attachment can use Extended Fire to draw that range out to 18". Ranged attacks are boosted during Ravyn's Feat Turn, though Swift Hunter might not work out for the entire unit.
  • Griffon: Keep a Griffon back to protect the ranged unit and help trigger their Flank Ability with its Reach Weapon.
  • Hydra: Set up the unit with its Defensive Line and dare the enemy to attack. Should they shoot at the unit or deal with the more dangerous threat and increase its focus? If the Hydra is Marshalled by the unit, attacks against it should still generate focus and allow the Hydra to use Focus.
  • Manticore: Covering fire will help protect your ranged elements from models running up to engage them.
  • Phoenix: The Phoenix's Reach Weapon increases the number of Invictors that can benefit from Flanking and the number of enemies that can be targeted by those Invictors.
  • Houseguard Halberdiers With their Shield Wall and Ranked Attacks, the Halberdier can make it even tougher to get at Invictors while still allowing them to use their ranged attacks.
  • Soulless Escort: Add a Soulless Escort (or three) to the Unit to keep them safe from debuff magic with Mage Static.
  • Dawnguard Scyir: A Scyir and his Marshaled Myrmidons can emerge through the Invictors' Defensive Line with its Coordinated Strike Ability.
