The Griffon is a light Myrmidon for the Retribution of Scyrah faction in Warmachine MkII.
Background and Description
The Griffon's power field allows it to rapidly deploy into battle at an inexpensive price.[1]
Special Abilities and Weapons
- Pathfinder
- Field Dependent: Model loses Pathfinder and Fleet when the Field Generator is crippled.
- Weapons
Strengths
- Mobile: Fleet, Pathfinder, and Powerful Charge gives you a warjack that can spend two focus for a single MAT 8 attack that threatens out to 13".
- Inexpensive: Cost and Reach might make this warjack a solid investment for a Warjack Marshal.
Weaknesses
- Focus Intense: Using all the mobile options means a minimum investment of two focus on key turns (one to charge and one to use fleet).
Synergies
- Adeptis Rahn: A fully loaded Griffon that is supported with a Force Blast to clear engaging models and placed via Telekinesis can create good charge opportunities for a model with Reach.
- Dawnlord Vyros: Use the fast moving Griffon's Reach weapon to trigger Lord Vyros's Flanking. If the Griffon is in his battlegroup, it will be able to position any way Vyros needs it to and still grant Flank due to Bird's Eye.
- Garryth, Blade of Retribution:Griffons can use focus for their Fleet ability in order to keep up with a charging Garryth. With Fleet and Reach, the Griffon can hit targets up to 10" away, exactly as far as Garryth can charge. If it charges, it can go even further. Griffons can also Advance Deploy along with Garryth in his Tier 4 Theme Force.
- Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper: Pathfinder allows a Griffon with Phantom Hunter cast on it to charge through terrain, clouds, and other LOS blocking shenanigans.
- Ravyn, Eternal Light: With the careful over-application of Focus, Ravyn can give the Griffon 3 Focus, use 2 Focus to cast Locomotion for 2 extra inches of movement in order to set up a charge lane, spend one focus to cause it to charge, one focus to give 2", and one focus to boost the first attack for a grand total of 15" threat range.
- Chimera: Use Fleet to keep this Reach Model in a position to protect the lightly armed Chimera. Even with Apparition, the Griffon should be able to stay just ahead and prevent charge lanes against the Arc Node.
- Gorgon:With Reach a Griffon can come up behind a Gorgon using Force Lock and attack over it to hit targets with impunity.
- Phoenix: A Griffon trapped by a swarm can be safely cleared out provided it leaves room for the Phoenix to move into its front arc and use Combustion. At POW 12, the attack should only average 1 damage to the Griffon, and all that should go into its force field.
- Dawnguard Invictors: Keep a Griffon back to protect the ranged unit and help trigger their Flank Ability with its Reach Weapon.
- Dawnguard Sentinels and Unit Attachment: Though Marshalling the Griffon causes it to lose out on Fleet, but the ability Pronto more than makes up for it with the additional 6" move.
- Houseguard Halberdiers: Attack over a Halberdier Shield Wall, protected by the solid line and Set Defense.
- Houseguard Riflemen and Unit Attachment: Follow up a Griffon charge with a volley of CRAs fired into melee thanks to War Tempered
- Arcanist: Gain the use of Fleet even when the warjack is 'Jack Marshalled by using the Arcanist's Power Booster.
- Scyir: Protect the solo and trigger a Scyir's Flank Ability with the Griffon's Reach Weapon.
