The Phoenix is a heavy Myrmidon for the Retribution of Scyrah faction in Warmachine MkII.
Background and Description
The Phoenix delivers fire and spells to the front lines of a Retribution of Scyrah army.[1]
Special Abilities and Weapons
- Field Dependent: Model loses its Phoenix Field ability and cannot attack with its Halo Cannon when the Field Generator is crippled.
- Phoenix Field: Spends focus to remove force field damage during the Maintenance phase.
- Combustion Attack: Damages nearby models and causes Fire.
- Weapons
- Halo Cannon (ranged Attack)
- Open Fist
- Thermal Blade
Strengths
- Heavy Arc Node Resilience: Using both its Phoenix Field and its Field Generator, a Phoenix can nullify 2-9 points of damage for one focus. Use this to deliver its Arc Node straight to the enemy without any consideration for flanking or enemy ranged attacks.
- Versatility: The Phoenix's Magical Weapons give it ranged, melee and Reach options for handling Incorporeal or Invincible models.
- Infantry Clear Out: POW 12 should be enough to clear most infantry swarm type annoyances, and with Reach it can finish the job at a key target.
Weaknesses
- Damage Types: There are no vulnerabilities to Damage Types and only invulnerabilities. Therefore, the number of potential targets is reduced.
- Fire Effect and High Strength Weaponry: Anything it can hit with its Thermal Blade is either going to die from the hit (low to average armor), or ignore the Fire Effect (high armor).
- You Pay For What You Get: The Phoenix is one of the most expensive Heavy Warjacks in the game that is not a Character Warjack.
Synergies
- Adeptis Rahn:Polarity Field will help keep the warjack up and functional, while its arc node will force the enemy to deal with it as a threat lest Adeptis Rahn arc a Force Hammer into the enemy's backfield.
- Dawnlord Vyros: Mobility increases the charge range of these heavy warjacks to 11", and it gives them the ability to pass through terrain.Hallowed Avenger and Perfect Execution are particularly nice with the Phoenix's Reach as it will be able to charge and attack over a line of troops, and Perfect Execution provides it with the extra focus to destroy more targets in its melee range (which is 360 degrees thanks to Bird's Eye). Mobility also gives the Phoenix an 8" range to use its Combustion attack.
- Dawnlord Vyros: During the Feat Turn, a Phoenix can generate its own focus by using its Combustion on enemy models and then using the focus generated to buy additional attacks against a target within reach of its Thermal Blade.
- Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper: Either cast on herself or on the Phoenix, Phantom Hunter is a powerful ability. On herself, she can ignore the Phoenix's facing and intervening models when channeling spells . On the Phoenix, the model can fire powerful blasts from its Halo Cannon or charge in any direction.
- Ravyn, Eternal Light: Reposition the Phoenix using Locomotion. With Reach, the Phoenix should have an easy time maneuvering to get to a target in Ravyn's melee range in order to benefit from her Vortex of Destruction and deal boosted P+S 17 hits with its sword.
- Chimera Myrmidon: The Phoenix can provide a dual threat with its Arc Node closer to the center lines while the Chimera provides a flanking threat.
- Gorgon Myrmidon: Reach weapon wielding warjacks can come up behind a Gorgon using Force Lock and attack over it to hit targets with impunity.
- Griffon Myrmidon: A Griffon trapped by a swarm can be safely cleared out provided it leaves room for the Phoenix to move into its front arc and use Combustion. At POW 12, the attack should only average 1 damage to the Griffon, and all that should go into its force field.
- Invictors: The Phoenix's Reach Weapon increases the number of Invictors that can benefit from Flanking and the number of enemies that can be targeted by those Invictors.
- Scyir, Arcanist, Dawnguard Sentinels Unit: Though you lose the benefit of its Arc Node and Phoenix Field by Marshalling it, the Scyir and Arcanist can make the Phoenix surprisingly Resilient by giving it focus and driving it to reroll its main attack. In addition, the Phoenix will get to crash through the Sentinels due to Coordinated Strike.
