Interesting, yet another new paint line... any signs of a review from Stahly, or anywhere where I can actually read a review - old-fashioned millennial that I am I prefer that to youtube videos!

This is probably the first time anyone outside of Vallejo has seen True Metallic paints (Juan has worked in conjunction with Vallejo on the Xpress paints). Juan mentioned that he could only show four of the twenty families, so it will probably be some time before we see anyone else with these paints.

Angel Giraldez has a few posts teasing them on his instagram showing the 4 copper colors and another one showing a lot of colors.
They seem to have the whole rainbow.
Not surprising, as he worked with Vallejo to develop the new Game Color paints and the BSL (Base, Shade, Light) system.

I guess it makes sense they'd want to give exclusive access to the two influencers who tend to be diehard Vallejo fans slash partners, but it does make me less eunthusiastic about picking them up than if some others like Tale of Painters or Vince Venturella had their hands on them at the same time.

They're not just 'influencers', they've both actually worked for Vallejo. Others like Stahly and Vince will get the paints in due time (I wouldn't expect a release until maybe second quarter of 2026 at the earliest).

That red in particular I really like. I'm not generally a fan of doing edge highlights on metallics but combined with the shade that just about works for me.

That red looks perfect for Heresy-era Thousand Sons.

Yeah, with most paints now getting such high Stahly scores, these are going to need to be pushed "must have" based on his scoring.

As I recall from when GW produced coloured metallics many years ago, they couldn't do a red for some reason. Maybe they couldn't get enough pigment in against all the silver flakes, so the result looked a metallic pink. It would be nice if Vallejo have cracked it, as I haven't seen a convincing metallic red in all the years since.

Juan uses the Ruby Red in his video, and it looks impressive.

They were selling them already last week on the presentation during Freak Wars. A friend got a couple of BSL sets (regular metal and blue, I think) and he seems to be gushing about them.

Vallejo previewed the new Game Color and Xpress color paints at Freak Wars 2022 and may have even sold some while they were there. It still took some time to see them in retail however, but maybe that's changed with their acquisition?

Today, I believe they can color the aluminum flakes themselves instead of just relying on a pigment added to the mix. Whether or not red is one of the colors that can be applied to aluminum like this, I don't know.

If they’re anodising the flakes? Or a similar process… that would mean you can theoretically get any colour you can anodise regular aluminium stock, which is nearly all the colours.

For me this is a dream come true. I've been experimenting with contrast over metallics to get shinny nids. Soon (for a certain meaning of soon) I will have an easier alternative.

@Ghaz thanks for keeping up with these updates its much appreciated.
Its truly something special these metals, in the past it was always a pain to tint or to darken metals because shades or shadows or contrasts had different finishes and that would dull or wet the metal work too much... The way this is done its perfect match and a no brainer. Also it paints like a normal paint with the possibility to mix light and base colours of metals on the pallets. Very Nice.
