This is something I wanted to do for some time now. Of all the message boards I spend too much time on, Dakkadakka is the one I enjoy the most. Not only because it's filled with incredibly creative and talented people when it comes to the modeling aspect of our shared hobby, but also because it's always good for a laugh and even most of the Off-topic discussions are interesting and insightfull.
And because Dakka is such a great community (I really mean it) I think it would be nice if we get to know us a little better by posting pictures of ourselves. I know some of you already do this from time to time by posting pics from some event or game they took part in, or in some cases even in their Avatar like Gonads or corpsesarefun, so I thought we could make a thread just for this.
Some of you may know each other in real life, but considering Dakka's multicultural community, even members from smaller countries like Germany live a long way from each other and it's unlikely that we meet that many people from the board. It might break some illusions we have about each other, (I for one, am still a 100% sure that H.B.M.C. looks like Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino) but I thought it might be something nice for the community.
So maybe I'm breaking one of the unwritten rules of the Internet with this, but I thought it would be a nice idea. Give it a shot or let it be, your choice.
Edit: I am intentionally making this post longer so that people who aren't interested in it, won't have to look at me
This is the best pic of me I currently have on my harddrive. My mother took it last summer before me and my brother went to the Dark Knight Premiere with T-Shirts to match, but I can tell you, I haven't changed that much since then.

A NOTE OF EXPLANATION
There have been several complaints both in this thread and to me RE: several posters spamming with pointless comments/one line responses to pics and derailing the thread by discussing things that have nothing to do with the thread.
I usually am very liberal with allowing Off Topic threads to be exactly that, off topic. However after reading through the thread it seemed that the original premise for the thread had been hijacked by (specifically) 2 members.
So rather than try to work out what should and should stay which would invariably leave members complaining that some posts had been deleted whilst others haven't I have deleted (up to this point) ALL posts (even ones made by moderators) that do not contain a member posting a pic of themselves.
Please consider the original aim of the thread when making further posts. We want to see what members look like....
I will be posting pics soon.

My extended family own several dairy farms so when visiting on holidays I help out by milking, carting and stacking hay, feeding the cows/calves, ride around on the motorbike, go fishing, kill weeds with poison or a hoe, chop firewood... generalised farming stuff.

For the record, both Linkin Park and Lacuna Coil have done Enjoy the Silence, although Linkin Park's version is just a remix and not a cover. And Lacuna Coil's version is better(mostly because Cristina Scabbia is amazing, but then so is Amy Lee).

find a link to the picture, if you have it uploaded to a photo bucket use the direct link, if it's on another website, navigate to where the pic is on a white background
the link should end in .jpg like this: http://www.nataliedee.com/012908/self-esteem-is-awesome.jpg

I think over half the general population needs some sort of corrective vision. And since
we're dudes, most of us are capable of growing facial hair (some of us grow patchy
leprous beards, but still), then yes, we're likely to have 2 out of 3 of those things.

I LARP, but not recently. These days, I only enjoy going with a group of friends(a pre-generated party, if you will). We always play combat characters and tend to limit our interaction with people outside our group(which is different than when we were part of the largest barony in the game, but I was one of the 2 army commanders, so I was expected to be political).

Oh, then I can't take credit for the kill. I am a SCAdian, not a LARPer. I don't pretend to be a dwarf for the sake of pretending to be a dwarf, I put on armor and beat the hell out of similarly geared men with sticks.

Not at all. I tried SCA when I was 15-20 pounds lighter, and it's just being beat with a wooden stick. You'll walk away, but with some very serious bruising.

Foamyswords? LOL.
OTOH, if you're talking about rattan sticks covered with foam, wrapped with duct tape, then that's standard SCA kit. As I said above, it'll hurt, and you'll bruise, but you'll walk away. Cowboy up, or go home.
But foamyswords? That's lightweight PVA wrapped in the same foam and tape. You couldn't hurt me with those. That's why even little girls play foamyswords.

SCA weapons: rattan wrapped in duct tape. Generally no foam, though some kingdoms (regions) require padded pole weapons.
Markland uses foam covered rattan weapons, as well as a half dozen other fighting groups.
Latex or foam covered pvc is generally the realm of LARP, or SCA youth fighting.
Fun stuff in general, though like any social hobby you need to have good people to do it with.
Shortbus: Where do you usually fight? You look really familiar, though after getting hit in the head for a few hours, I find I don't recall names well
That, and I tend to remember people's faces I see at Pennsic, and then have no idea why I "know them".

I've been to a couple of 'sealed knot' events here in England. They mostly put on historical battle recreations and they do not use foam. Being in the front rank of a pike formation is terrifying, even when you know they won't actually hit you with the sharp end. I've seen of few guys walking away form those things missing a couple of teeth or a broken arm, it all gets drowned in booze at the end of the day, but still...

It's not so bad, I've got to get them finished soon, they're pretty long but I felt they could stand to be longer so I'm getting some extention-dreads sewn in. Say what you will, but I love them.

Heh.
It's real. It's got the markings "BYF 44" which means it was made at the main Mauser plant in Oberndorf some time in 1944. This particular rifle was amongst those that recently were imported to the country from Russia. So chances are it was captured on the Ostfront in the closing stages of the war.
I'll have to post some photos of the other guns in my collection (including the MP40) if you like that one.

And, to prove that while we may all be Alpharius, we are not all bald (though we're all occasionally screaming, I imagine):

I throw a Phoenix Down on this thread!
I get my hair cut once a year. Usually springtime I get it all shorn off and then let it grow for a whole year. This year I opted to try something different. I'll give it a week and then I might shave it off anyway.

Do you donate it to Locks of Love? My french teacher and my dad both do the same thing you described, just wondering.

Playing a show with my most successful band, the Dregs (songs about punching babies and such).
My friend Kyle and I at post prom... I swear it was just for fun.
This is the most recent one I have. Yes, I made the jacket myself. I get asked that a lot.

I would post another photo of myself, but it was a miracle that I was able to post one for my battle report months back (I'm not all that good with the multimedia side of computing). Guess if anyone's that keen they can look through my threads and the last pic on the battle report is me and driverbob25, but it aint a good one of me.
Failing that you'll just have to wait until I get a book published and see my pic on the inside cover sleeve.

He clearly stated it, minus a few typos. Funny thing is that he even slipped READ in there, comedy at it's purest I have to say.

So is Cheese the same age as Luna? And how do you know? Cheese, I know you're still in (presumably) middle or high school. But with Luna, are we talking about age or use of language?

Post by: Wrexasaur
Luna is in high school too, you can see that in a few threads by her saying so.

Yes, I'm still in my final year of high school, which is ages 12-16 over here. Next year I'm off to college, which is for ages 16-18.

Even decade-long age gaps don't matter here. It's like the Warp, only with more spam.

Post by: Manchu
It certainly doesn't matter. I was just shamelessly pointing out, albeit on this rather deadish thread, that today is my birthday. Also, I don't need an internet alter ego. I like my life pretty well, I suppose.

Shouldn't you be out partying or something rather than sitting at home browsing Dakka?

I'm actually at a friend's house at the moment. I just got back from an exhausting two day long trip. It's near 6AM here and I've been up since 7AM after five hours of sleep and six hours of work in between. But you know, I missed Dakka over the last two days. And lots to do with friends on the weekend so I thought I'd enjoy the Dakkites company while I could.
