I'd like to know the wheres and whys of peoples avatars. I got mine by following two criterea.
1) It has to be related to Half-Life.
2) It has to mentaly scar young children.
So, trawling through the Half-Life wiki, I found this. Ain't it cute?
Mines from Aliens Vs Predator three world war greatest mash up of universes ever Predators vs Aliens Vs Marines vs Predators that use Xenomorphs as pets.
Mine is an album cover, from the band Portal. Its their latest album larrve . They are a very disturbing band they are sort of advent garde death metal. Its like if Silent hill had thier own band lol . They arnt your generic dm band they slow and very creepy.
Mine is because I wated something different from the Zaku II with the marine on its shoulder. I intend to buy another one so I can convert it up to an Inquisition WallE or a Commissar.
Mine is Flashman from the cover of the novel Flashman by George MacDonald Fraser. He's an absolute bastard and a coward, but circumstances always contrive to make him look like the hero.
Well I used to run a WordBearer Army. This is my Dark Apostle. Pic was taken at Baltimore GT a number of years ago, back when they used to show pics of every army that attended.
mine is from the series Venture Brothers. He is is the father, named Rusty (or Crusty), who is always trying to measure up to his father, and he always builds things that don't quite work. His nemesis is funny also - 'The Monarch' (dangit - someone will think I'm trying to draw metaphor to my life here)
Mine is the basic sticker you would see regarded as the "Andre" sticker, prompted by the artist Shepard Fairey. It is based on the study of Phenomenology.
My avatar is an Evil Sunz banner, alyhough I've just discovered Looking for Group and want something off that, or maybe not, as I've seen a few people with LFG avatrars.
Mine is from a anime called Higurashi. Which basically is about this little backwater Japanese town that revolted after the government tried to make a dam, anyways after a few of the workers were found brutally killed, gak hits the fan.
It centers around this group of kids that find themselves in the middle of the paranoia and end up going crazy from it. Hence the face.
mine is my favorite T-shirt. it's a zombie. i love zombies. LOVE LOVE LOVE. i love zombies like zombies love brains.
i got the shirt off the Hot Topic bargain rack for $3 back in 2005. my wife hates the shirt, so can't wear it around her, but this same pic was my Facebook user icon for a while too.
this is me shooting my Russian Saiga AK-47...
the 7.62 barrel has been switched out for the 12 gauge shotgun barrel...
that giant clip holds ten 12-gauge rounds...
after 5 clips, i'm usually crying for my momma, 'cause this thing kicks like a mule...
i love to pull this badboy out at the range when the security guards are training with their 9mm pistols...
more Dakka!!!
Mine represents my screen name as well as my blog.
Screen Name: 'oni' is a Japanese word that translates into various things one of which is 'daemon'.
The Avatar: This is the Japanese character for the word 'oni'. The character is also used in some Chinese dialects, roughly translating to 'ghost'.
How my screen name originated: I used to be one of the highest ranked Legend of the Five Rings players in the US. A friend of mine and fellow gamer called me 'oni' and it stuck.
I always had the Bix cover from Four Devils, One Hell. However, I've mixed it up and have gone with the devil himself, Hunter Rose. Grendel is hands down my favorite comic and I've always used cover art or drawings from the various series as backgrounds or avatars.
Milk & Cheese. My favorite comic of all time. I have 3 tattoos of them, and plan on one of these days having a full sleeve. I wonder if I could get Evan Dorkin to pick up a tattoo gun...
My avatar is the Pegasus from the days of 5th Airborne. I'm a Parachute-trained medic (I don't call myself a paratrooper as not to upset the guys in THE Parachute regiment). Peggy is widely recognised as the symbol for British airborne forces.
I modeled my own 'mini revenant titan w/pulsars' by using a wraithlord w/bright lances. I now have the real thing and can't wait to start putting it together.
I don't remember how I got mine so many years ago but it still makes me laugh. If anybody knows the origin site it would have come from let me know so I can thank them.
My most recent avatar was found when reading about an episode of south park. I followed a link about fart lighting and found my avatar. Here he is in all his fart-lighting glory.
Mine's always an eldar thing, to correspond with my username, at the moment it's a warlock, but before it was an avatar of khaine, which i might change it back to....
Spottswoode from Team America: World Police. This pic is from one of my favorite parts in the movie. He tells Gary (the main character) to perform fellatio on him so that he can trust him again. Gary says something like, "are you serious" and Spottswoode replies with "This is my Serious Face". Of coures he's a puppet so the facial emotion is a little lacking.
Its a smiley face destroying a planet- does it need any more justification?
(Please bear in mind that an answer of 'yes' will result in your planet being destroyed next.)
Mine is from watching the old school Transformers cartoon and putting my parents in the poor house for buying toys the for me.
Funny thing is I love Optimus Prime and the Autobots, but ended up buying the Decepticons. They had the cooler looking toys. Insecticons, Trypicon, Soundwave and all of the tapes, the Combiners (Constructions, Stunticons, Combaticons, Predicons), Triple-Changers, and many, many more.
Imperial Fist techmarine I painted up. Nothing too special. I'll occasionally change my pic to other models I've painted as well, but haven't done so in awhile.
If you see us you are dead already If you see us you are faithful throughout If you see us you are one of us We are the Grey Knights, we do not exist, nor do you
Mine is me staring at a barbell while doing CrossFit training to be a Marine.. I was litterally saying to said barbell.. I hate you no Im not picking you up.. go away. Im tired.
Mine's the winged wheel, the symbol of a police motor officer. I like motorcycles, am in the process of becoming a police officer and my dad is a retired motor officer so it's fitting.
I'm a huge Rhodesian Bush War geek and the pic I use is a crop from a larger photo showing Rhodesian soldiers fording a stream some time in the late '70s. The photo originally apeared on the cover of Soldier of Fortune magazine. The original description blurb in the magazine identifies the men as members of the Selous Scouts, but I doubt it. These guys are way too clean cut and uniform to likely be members of the notoriously camera shy Scouts. They are more likely members of an infantry rifle company or perhaps Rhodesian Light Infantry. But as there is no visible insignia, that's just a guess.

My 'new' avatar is the CHOP poster from what could be the greatest webcomic of all time Axe Cop!
Written by a 6 year old, illustrated by his 29 year old big brother.
Do I need to say any more?
Just loved the art work of my Avatar, it looks bad ass, even though i wish it was a salamander marine enough said it is just awesome piece of artwork in and of itself.
Because I know what his avatar looks like; I need him to explain it because it's too small to figure out. I'm not the only one, so this would be the perfect thread for him.
Nevermind, seems he's changed it.
HUMPING FOX FTW!!!!
GWAR! I COMMAND YOU TO BRING BACK THE HUMPING FOX, OR I SHALL UNLEASH MY ARMY OF JERVIS-MUCHKINS TO BEAT YOU TO DEATH WITH FLAMING DARK ANGELS CODEXES!
It's a trombone, because I play the trombone... And this is not necro posting, i was on the main forums page and this was there so bleh! I might replace it soon though. Probably with my crazy cow...
He is powered by his own greed. and he wants everything. especially want one of those. it'll be all mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine
"caution water on road during rain"
My wife sent me the pic like 7 years ago and thought it was a perfect statement about the world we live in. some things shouldn't need pointing out.
I REALLY want to make a space marine army, that looks exactly like Clone Troopers with the sargents and other "Important" people wearing Kamas, which are Mandolorian Battle Skirts, and because the Clones were made from a Mando...
And the phrase would just be fun to shout of after Rapid Fire at 18inchs.
For some reason whenever I look at my avatar I go into fit of hysterical laughter and everyone in the room starts staring at me . I picked it because it clashes so beautifully with my profile name. and I love that sheep's expression.
KingCracker wrote:Mine is me at my wedding, with an Ork helm and Iron gob. I leave it up to us to guess weather or not I looked that when I said I do
I always thought that was some sort of beard...
lol That made me laugh. I tried to think of some "well Im so Orky, my beard turned to iron, and I fashioned it into an Iron gob" type of responce. But Ill just take the compliment, weather or not it was meant as one
it's a drawing i made on paintbrush while i was at Cannes and really bored and drunk and surrounded by French people. I entitled it "French People are Wierd"...

It is an image of the scary caterpillar train. And why should that surprise you? Perhaps it does not, and then again perhaps it may. If it does no doubt you shall enquire, and thus I shall answer your query to the best of my sadly limited abilities.
Well, now it's back to the good ole' Predator. Because, upon consideration, he probably say's more about how I am in real life than a caterpillar ever did.
Do you know who Goblox is?! I will tell you who Goblox is. In the year 9595, a race of deformed turkey was genetically developed by chicken scientists as revenge against his bird brother. These turkeys would exit the womb doused in gravy; gravy filled with the giblets…from a monkey. The French craved it, and, as a result, turkey became the only food source for France, which is now called RoboFrance 29. I was later killed by the chickens! So, of course, you can see why I’m angry at those chickens.
Snikrot, one of my Best commanders, can infiltrate or outflank to any point on the battlefiel. Is it really hard to realize/understand how it is he came to infiltrate my avatar square? I had a nice kitty there before, but I am pretty sure he ate it...
In 2004, another saga in the Red Sox-Yankee rivalry was added when a bench-clearing brawl broke out.
After Red Sox starter Bronson Arroyo hit Alex Rodriguez with a pitch… A-Rod, who hit a game-winning home run the previous night, glared out at the mound on his way to first…
Sox catcher Jason Varitek stood between the batter and pitcher and, after a colorful verbal exchange, "pushed" the Yankees third baseman in the face — igniting the brawl.
This was the catalyst and turning point that spurred the Red Sox to end “The Curse of the Bambino” by winning the franchises 1st world championship in 86 years.
Back when I first got my phone, I had coincidentally enough gotten back into the Phoenix Wright games (And was almost done with Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney). So I decided to test out my phone's camera timer by doing an epic finger point pose.
Works great, but it's really hard to get the phone propped up just the right way to take a pic of myself...
And just in case anyone asks, the t-shirt says Death Note at the bottom, with a picture of Light and L above it (Death Note is still my favorite anime series of all time, and I was shocked to find the shirt at Hot Topic back when I started collecting novelty shirts)
What, were you expecting something witty or interesting?
Well, my girlfriend (now wife) was watching one of those talk shows, possibly Leno, and they had an animal segment featuring the cuscus. She said it had my eyes, and since I was looking for an online identity at the time...
It is the cover of the rock band Faces' (last) studio album "Ooh La La".
Looking on Wikipedia, apparently it is some stage character of a 1920 Italian comedian. And on the album, if you pressed down, its eyes would go all weird and the mouth would smile. Very creepy.
Mine is a pic of the first miniature that I bought.Once I finished painting it at my friend's house(I don't have all the equipment yet) I might replace it with a real photo.
It also taught me the lesson that on dakka, transparent backgrounds are black.
Mosin M38 being fired at night. If you look real close at it you can almost make out the little guy and rifle on the left. Just happened to be my favorite rifle at the time.
Mine should be fairly obvious. The reason for it is because we are American but directly Irish. My mother was born here but has been over to see what are my great-aunt and uncles quite a few times. I'm currently just waiting to get the opportunity. Also, our family is Catholic and were involved in the IRA around the same time as the whole Bloody Sunday event.
Don't you mean Lala killed your family? Oh, right. Barney killed your family, so you made him kill the Teletubbies. urgh, more confusing than the Internet.
My avatar was originally a hybrid of a certain mongler and a Guy Fawkes mask. It is my usual avatar which I normally make use of. However I decided to change it to a Japanese Cartoon character to fit in more with the usual Dakka membership. It's Fran Madaraki from Franken Fran.
I have a strange fascination with the "Thumbs up." A few years ago I played in a real time browser strategy game called Lunar Wars, and my flag was the Thumbs up. I was looking for an avatar, and, well, that's what was in my Image folder.
It's the picture that got me into collecting my LatD army many moons ago, I then dropped out due to errr well idk, and came back to my army 6 months ago. The images in the LatD army list will stay burned in my mind as what chaos renegades should look like.

Clearly worshiping chaos has given you multiple minds
well one day i was just surfing the internet and i desided to serch cump, i was hellishly bored, i found this picture, and it seemed to fit everything i needed, he looks scottish(kinda) he has a bit of purple on him, and has a beird!
i cant actualy remeber enough of where it came from, but thats my reasons for having it, and its fun to stare at. i think its probubly from some game somewhere, but pah, mine now.
Mine is a forgeworld Commissar Tank Commander I painted myself and I thought looked so spiffing I should force you all to stare at it and send me PMs about how amazing it looks.

He is Lord Crump, a recurring villain from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Shows up as a boss a couple times.

cheers for that 1, i forsome reason had it in my mind that it was sonic, :S yeah, im stoopids...
Been into computers and games since I was a wee one.
Tron was the first blend of computer graphics in a movie.
The Tank was the most amazing looking vehicle.
Always like tanks and always think of this as an "icon" of one.
Kinda mentally ill when it comes to Tron so the new movie
coming out is not good for me. Still got my Tron 2.0 FPS.
Go on, admit it, the most striking tank you have seen...
Deep Throat wrote:Thanks to my obsession with X-Files, my avatar is of Deep Throat, the government informant from Season 1.
Oh. THAT Deep Throat. Your avatar doesn't look like any pics of Linda Lovelace I've seen, at least in her prime. Maybe that's what she looks like now. if so, the years have not been kind.
Felt it was time for a change. Mine is now Malcom McDowell from a promo shot for Royal Flash, which bizzarely is the one and only Flashman film.
Bizzarely for two reasons,
1. The general theme of the Flashman books (i.e. what happens when you go throwing your weight around in foreign countries) has never been more relevant.
my avitar? that's smiley, a skull champion in my army who i recently disassembled and im planning on using his head on a model in my WoC army for fantsy.
Last Friday my friend introduced to me an album that at the time I thought was funny but terrible and hard to listen to. Well after listening to it for about three or four times I have fallen in love with trout mask replica and captain beef heart. It is awesome. Anyway in honor of the captain I have made his magnus opus my avatar.

I went through a beefheart phase about a year or so ago. His music is really weird but at the same time its pretty good. His artwork is pretty cool as well if you ever get bored and need something to kill time with, check it out on google.
My avatar is a pic of the old Mushroomhead singer J Mann
They kicked him out in 2004 I believe...very sad...nobody does the angry-hardcore-screaming-howl better...
Mine's a simple combination of my usual army's crest behind a character from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels (The Death of Rats) and the Most Holy Dessert - the All Nourishing Turtle Pie.
I just love DE Mandrakes... Well the concept anyway. I always hated that one of the coolest units in the DE army is weak and useless. Along with their creepyawesome special character who doesn't even have a model.
So when DoW made Mandrakes appropriately deadly, I very much enjoyed it.
Plus I shave my head, so this can also be viewed as a self portrait.
I went to make a cup of tea at 2 am one day & found my 12 year old brother downstairs, making a suit of power armour out of a cardboard box, so naturally I had to try it out.
I named a cocktail after this dude (Toshiro Mifune) after his performance in the film Seven Samurai got me so drunk during the Seven Samurai Drinking Game I'd just invented that my friend threw me out of his own flat.
I was the only person there apart from him, and he threw me out.
I then spread similar drunkenness in my uni years with the cocktail named after him, but he's still such a dude I tend to use him as my 'nerdy stuff' avatar.
